This pre-planning for this chapter was a hassle. I had to do an over-analyzes on some characters to find evidence that isn't there for disabilities. I'm hoping I did this tastefully. Let me know.

Friendship is Magic: Lelouch of Equestria High

Part Three:

Nunnally's Grand Adventures without Lelouch

"Now Nunnally if anything goes wrong just press the button on the beeper underneath your chair's right arm. I'll be right over here to grab you. We'll escape together."

"Oh Lelouch, nothing bad is going to happen. Ms. Luna told us how safe the school is. No one is going to hurt me." Nunnally smiled at the direction of her brother's voice. God bless him, he was always such a worrier.

Lelouch fought to keep his tone steady. "I'm not just talking about terrorists. We'll going to be separated so I need you to take every possible precaution. Threats could come anywhere at any time."

"It's just classes, big brother. I'll be fine. I might even make some friends."

The morning talk with the vice-principle had sent Lelouch into a tizzy. Nunnally would not be receiving a private tutor and had to attend classes on her own. Lelouch vehemently protested; saying they needed to take all their classes together then. But Ms. Luna put her foot down and said no. He was a freshman and she a six-grader. They can't be together during the school day.

Lelouch was ready to leave Canterlot High right then and there. He only relented when his little sister insisted they stay. She would be just fine by herself. Vice-Principle Luna even reassured him by saying that Miss Cheerilee was the kindest teacher at the school and would watch over Nunnally.

The real problem was how Nunnally was assigned. Her age put her in sixth grade but she was handicapped and couldn't attend those classes. She was to be placed in special education with the other kids with disabilities and mental irregularities.

Lelouch protested. His sister was far too educated for that and qualified for a higher grade; but Luna said the law was firm. Due to Nunnally's hysterical blindness being psychological, she would be placed with other mentally infirmed kids despite her smarts. This was the Emperor's law and would be enforced no matter what school they went to. Luna tried to calm him by saying he should count himself lucky that Canterlot High had such facilities so she wouldn't have to leave school grounds.

Lelouch went into full doomsday mode, plotting out contingencies to every possible scenario. The vice-principle had dealt with imaginative children before, but even she was stumped when he demanded the personal information of her fellow classmates. He wanted to know everything – their names, families, and past history. Until then, they were classified as deadly threats.

Luna had a brief mental image of Snips and Snails trying to kill everyone and blundering every step.

Nunnally eventually calmed her brother down by acquiescing to a few of his precautions. She would have an emergency radio installed on her wheelchair but she most certainly would not bring a taser.

"Welcome Nunnally. The Vice-Principle told me to expect you," a very patient and kind voice spoke. "I'm Miss Cheerilee. I'll be your teacher. It's nice to meet you."

Nunnally turned to face the direction of her voice. "It's nice to meet you too. I'm glad to be here. I'm going to make so many new friends." She would have said more but her brother was making her wheelchair vibrate from gripping the handles so tightly.

"I'll introduce you to everyone. Come on in. Young man, kindly let go of her. You can't come in."

Nunnally could hear her brother's heart palpitating. "I'll be fine, big brother. Just make sure to pick me up after classes. I don't know if I can find my way back to the trailer by myself yet."

"I'm counting the seconds," her brother spoke rigidly and Nunnally knew he was being literal. "I love you, Nunnally. Call me if you need anything." He stressed the last word, tapping her chair's arm.

Miss Cheerilee brought her inside and closed the door. Nunnally could still hear her brother standing outside. The class was quite noisy. Kids were yelling over each other, some were bashing toys together, and a few were crying.

Nunnally heard a bell ring. It wasn't the school's alarm but one closer. Miss Cheerilee was using one to catch everyone's attention. "Good morning everyone! Today is a special day! We have a new student here and I want you all to treat her the way you want to be treated!" There was a murmur of 'yes teacher' from most of the class. "Very good. Now introduce yourself, Nunnally. I want the class to know how special you are."

"Okay!" Nunnally turned to the direction of the noisiest students as a frame of reference. It was a trick she learned at the Kururugi residence. "My name is Nunnally Lampounge. I'm eleven years old. I was born in the homeland but relocated to Japan just before it joined the empire. My hobbies are reading brille books and listening to radio shows. I hope we can all be friends. Is there anything you want to know about me?"

"How'd you lose your eyes?" , "Does your chair transform into a knightmare frame?" , "Can you play sports?" , "Do you like show tunes?"

"One at a time! You will all get know Nunnally at playtime!" Their teacher chimed in. "But it's almost time for class to start! Nunnally, there is an empty spot at a table right in front of you. Can you make it there on your own?"

"Yes I can, Miss Cheerilee." She pushed the joystick on her armrest to move forward and stopped when the motion sensor beeped right before she bumped into the desk. Nunnally was so impressed with her brother for jury-rigging this contraption onto her chair.

"Do you want some help?" a girl with a scratchy voice asked. Nunnally could hear metal rattle when she stood up. She was wearing leg braces. "There's an empty spot at the end you can sit at." She patted the table to give Nunnally an idea where to go.

Nunnally wheeled her chair into place. "Thank you so much. I'm still not use to this school but I'll learn my way around. I'll have everything remembered in a week."

"Wow, you gotta be smart to do that!" A new voice sounded out a few feet away. It was a girl with a country twang. "I still get lost in the orchards. One apple bushel looks like every other one so it's hard to get back."

Nunnally gave a small laugh. "Don't feel bad. Japan has a lot of woods so it's real easy to lose your way."

"That's what I tell granny but she never listens," the country girl whined.

A new voice chimed in. This one was squeaky. "I still think you should paint a trail. Make it bright pink and pretty and you'll never get lost."

"Sweetie Belle, you know that won't ever work!" The country girl snapped.

Nunnally had to agree. "Yes, painting the grass will only-"

"It'll confuse pilots and they'll crash their planes looking for the runway!"

"…" Nunnally couldn't respond.

"Smart, Apple Bloom," said the scratchy voice.

"Ah sure am, Scootaloo!" Apple Bloom said proudly. "That dang orchard won't be confusing me no more! I'm goin' to be a mapmaker and get a compass and I'll never get lost again!"

"I like to draw so I can draw the map!" Sweetie Belle held up her pencil proudly like it was the answer to all their problems.

"We're going to be the best map makers of all time!" Scootaloo jumped in.

"CUTEY MARK CRUSADERS; MAP MAKERS! YAY!" all three cheered.

"…" Nunnally was very confused. She tried to make sense of their horrid take on cartography but was baffled by the last part. She heard it before. "Cutey Mark Crusaders?"

"It's what we call ourselves," Apple Bloom answered.

"It came to us in a dre~am…" Sweetie Belle said mysteriously.

"The school was having a party at night so everyone to watch a meteor shower." Scootaloo filled Nunnally in. "It was late and we went to sleep and had the same dream. Cutey Marks are all about being you being the bestest at something. So that's what we call ourselves."

"…I've heard that before…" Nunnally fidgeted. Her brother and Miss Luna acted like she had gone crazy when she talked about this last time. "It was when Miss Luna was showing me and my big brother around the school at that big statue out front."

Apple Bloom piped in. "That's weird. That's where we fell asleep way back at the meteor shower. My sis sure was mad we missed out on it."

"Mine too but you know what this really means?" Sweet Belle grabbed Nunnally's hand. "That means she's just like us!"

All three crowded the blind girl. "CUTEY MARK CRUSADER NUNNALLY! YAY!"

"Oh wow, I've joined a club!" They were quite odd but Nunnally looked on the bright side. First day of school and she already made three friends.

End Chapter Three…
XXXXXXX

This chapter required a lot of plotting. In the anime, Nunnally should offer the audience a firsthand experience what it's like living with disabilities in a Social Darwinist society but this doesn't happen. She's never discriminated against or shown to have less opportunities than over kids. If anything her condition has a bigger effect on Lelouch and this isn't right.

We really don't know much about her. Nunnally has friends on the student council but does she even take classes? We never see her do that. Given Britainnia's view on the weak, I assumed she didn't and Sayako gave her private lessons. So I had to figure out how she could be a student in this story. I think it's fitting for Britainnia to have a regressive approach with handicapped children and would just lump them all together instead of taking their individual prognosis's into account.

That meant I had to give each CMC their own diagnosis. Scootaloo was easy. Her pony self was impaired in-universe so that would transition to leg braces. Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle were much harder. I noticed the little unicorn seemed to be a bit scatterbrain and unaware how odd she behaved to others so I'm cranking that up a bit here as a mild case of autism and learning disability. Apple Bloom's impulse control and jumping in head first feels like a fairly serious case of ADD. Does this sound right? I don't want to come off as insensitive.

Regardless, even though Nunnally dealt with them at the end, I feel like she already grew a bit. While I consider R1 peak anime, Nunnally is a fairly static character. It's even fair to say that she fails the Sexy Lamp Test; meaning the girl could be replaced with a treasure heirloom from Marianne and nothing would change. If anything, being taken away from Lelouch actually helped her improve and become more proactive. But I think this was all incidental instead of intentional.

I would have taken it further. In episode 6 when Zero comes close to rescuing her, I would have had Nunnally reveal she knows he's Lelouch and worse, utterly ashamed of him. She knows he did something to their sister Euphemia and wants nothing to do with him. That would have been a better excuse to see Lelouch freefall and almost use Refrain. What do you think?

I'm going to take a bit off this story to focus on the next chapter of Street Fighter LP. I want it out ASAP so it's taking priority.

Until next time, read and review!
