Chapter 9: Egypt
Leawright: Glad to see your review. I'll take that into consideration.
"Last time on the Ridonculous Race, the teams went to Jamaica where they explored caves and painted the town. In the end the Geniuses came in last, due to the Adversity Twins having an unfortunate yet lucky accident. What'll happen next? Find out now on the Ridonculous Race." Don announced.
"We're still in Jamaica, and the Ice Dancers have first dibs on the next Don Box."
After blowing some kisses, Jacques pressed the button. When the tip popped out, he grabbed it and read it aloud.
"Our next stop is Egypt."
"Egypt home to sand, pyramids, and mummies. Teams will have to catch the next flight from the local airport to get there."
With that, all the other teams hurried off to the airport.
"I can't believe we're still in the game." Jay told the audience.
"Yeah, maybe our luck is starting to turn around." thought Mickey hopefully.
At the airport, the New Couple, Mother and Daughter, Sisters, Goths, and Reality TV Veterans managed to grab the tickets for the next flight leaving.
"As the first group of teams take flight, the others must wait for the next plane, which will be arriving in 15 minutes."
"I can't believe we're going to Egypt." said Taylor.
"Ooh, are you excited, sweetie?" asked Kelly.
"No, all that sand will get in my hair and shoes, and I'll probably get a sunburn."
"Taylor, what have we said about complaining?" Kelly told her sternly.
Taylor just slumped in her seat.
"Do you think we'll see any mummies, Crimson?" wondered Ennui.
"I hope so. A dead body that's been preserved and had its organs removed. An amazing sight." Crimson replied.
Back at the airport, the rest of the teams were boarding the next plane to Egypt.
"What's our plan this time?" whispered Jacques.
"We need to think of a plan. And by plan I mean we need to think of a way to sabotage the other teams." Josee replied.
They looked around for a team that could be their target.
"What about the twins?" thought Jacques.
"Nah, they're too easy."
"Okay then, what about the Father and Son?"
"Too close."
"Cops?"
"No, they know our tricks."
"(Sighs), this is going to be tough."
"Oh Jacques, you're making it too hard. The answer's simple, we just try and sabotage them all."
And the two smiled at each other evilly.
When the first plane landed in Egypt, the teams made a beeline for the Don Box. The Sisters got their first, and got the tip.
"We have to go to the Pyramids. First by taxi then by camels." read Kitty.
So they all hailed down taxis, and rode off to the desert.
"I can't believe we're riding on camels again." said Taylor.
"I agree with my daughter here." added Kelly.
As the teams were being driven to the desert, the second plane landed with the next group of teams. As they all ran for the Don Box, the Ice Dancers tripped some of the other teams. Josee tripped Stephanie, Junior, and Brody.
While Jacques tripped Ryan, Sanders, and Tom. As their partners helped them up, they got to the Don Box first. They got their tip, read it, and hurried to get a taxi. When the first groups of teams got to the desert, camels were waiting for them.
"Let's go." urged Owen.
"Allow me, m'lady." said Devin, as he helped Carrie onto the camel first.
Once all the teams were on their camels, they had them take them to the Pyramids.
"Whew, this heat is killing me." complained Emma.
"At least it isn't that humid like in India." Kitty mentioned.
Then they came to the Pyramids, and saw the next Don Box. The New Couple got to it first, and Carrie read the tip.
"It's a botch or watch."
"In this botch or watch, whoever didn't dressed up as a knight in London has to allow themselves let scarab beetles to crawl on them for one whole minute." Don told.
"Once they complete the whole minute, they'll receive their next tip from the case.
"Great, scarab beetles again." said Noah.
And they all hurried into the pyramid to get started. In the pyramid, they saw two large glass cases.
"I was the knight, so you're getting in the case." Noah told Owen.
"I'm in."
Taylor looked like she was going to throw up.
"Mom please tell me I don't have to..."
"You didn't want to dress up as a knight, so you have to do this." Kelly told her.
As the first teams did the botch or watch, the other teams had just arrived, and got the next tip. In the Pyramid, Owen, Emma, Ennui, Carrie did their one minute with the beetles, and got the tip. Ennui got out of the case, and read the tip.
"It's an either or."
"For this either or challenge, teams can either bandage their partner up like a mummy or they can spell their names in hieroglyphics. Both of them will be judged by these two locals." Don said.
The teams went on. But Taylor kept running out of the glass case.
"Taylor, you need to last one minute." Kelly told her.
"But they're gross."
"Look young lady." Kelly snapped in a serious tone.
"We can't leave until we get that tip, so you're going to get back in that case, and last a full minute."
Taylor was taken aback. Even though Kelly wasn't such a pushover now, Taylor still wasn't used to her mom snapping at her. So she got back in the case, while other teams arrived, and started the botch or watch.
"So which one should we do?" asked Devin.
"Why don't we try the hieroglyphics?" suggested Carrie.
"Let's do it."
The Sisters picked mummy, so did the Goths, and the Reality TV Veterans picked the hieroglyphics. In the spot for the hieroglyphics there was a large board, and a bin filled with wooden pieces with symbols on them.
"This shouldn't be too hard." Owen thought.
Then he saw the number of symbols on the pieces.
"Okay, this may be a little difficult." observed Noah.
"Hey look." called Devin.
Everyone looked at what Devin found, and it was a little guide to which symbols stood for which letter.
"This'll help." Owen said.
After several tries, Taylor managed to last a minute.
"Finally." she replied.
"See honey, that wasn't so bad." Kelly told her daughter.
"That was terrible. I think there's still one in my hair." Taylor complained.
"Come on, sweetie. We're already behind."
And indeed they were, the Daters, Adversity Twins, Ice Dancers, and Surfer Dudes had already gone. The Daters and Surfer Dudes picked the mummy challenge, while the Adversity Twins and the Mother and Daughter choose the hieroglyphics.
While the teams who had picked the mummy challenge weren't having any issues, the teams who picked the second challenge were struggling a little.
"Is this symbol for "I" or "D"?" asked Kitty, looking at two pieces.
"I think this is the symbol for "M"." thought Mickey, holding up a piece to his brother.
"As the teams who picked the hieroglyphics struggle, the teams who picked the mummies are wrapping it up. Get it?" Don said.
The Goths finished first, with Crimson wrapped up like a mummy. The local approved, and gave them their next tip.
"It's the final part of the challenge." Ennui read.
"For the final part of the challenge, teams will have to race by foot to the Chill Zone. Only a mere mile away." Don told.
As the Goths took first place, the Ice Dancers managed to finish their names. The other local, looked it over, and gave them their next tip.
"Come, Jacques to the Chill Zone." declared Josee.
They started off, but not before scrambling the hieroglyphics pieces. Though it slowed some teams down, they managed to find the pieces. The next teams to finish were the Sisters, New Couple, Daters, Surfer Dudes, Cops, and then the Adversity Twins.
Out in the desert, the teams trudged through the sand. While the Goths weren't having any issues, the others were facing the heat.
"This sun is burning me." complained Jacques.
"Keep going Jacques." urged Josee.
"Keep going, dude." encouraged Geoff.
"I'm trying, Geoff, but sand's getting in my socks." Brody replied.
"As the first group of teams race to the Chill Zone, the other teams aren't that far behind."
The Father and Son, Fashion Bloggers, Reality TV Veterans, and Mother and Daughter got their tips, and ran out into the desert.
"Do you see the Chill Zone yet, baby?" asked Stephanie to Ryan.
"Not yet." he replied.
"We have to be getting closer. Otherwise we're just going around in circles." said Dwayne.
As Mickey looked around, through the sand that had gotten in his eyes.
"Wait, I think I see it." he observed.
"It could be a mirage." Jay mentioned.
But then Macarthur saw something too.
"Wait, the shrimp's right. And I can see the other teams."
The first group of teams were almost there. The Ice Dancers were struggling to make it there first, but the Goths who were already in the lead got there first.
"Congratulations Goths, you're in first place." Don congratulated.
But the Goths just stood there.
"And still no reaction, Ice Dancers you're second."
The two twitched their eyes. Third place came the Cops, then the Surfer Dudes, and after them the Sisters. The Daters came in 6th, 7th the Adversity Twins, and 8th place came the New Couple. The remaining teams, were still struggling to get to the Chill Zone through the desert.
"Come on, we're almost there." Kelly encouraged her daughter.
"(Coughs), I'm trying." Taylor said.
But she wasn't exactly trying. And Kelly was getting a little impatient.
"9th place the Reality TV Veterans, and 10th place the Father and Son. It's now down between the Fashion Bloggers and the Mother and Daughter."
"Come on, Jen, we can make it." Tom told his partner.
"I'm trying, but sand keeps getting in my hair." Jen replied.
"If we stop now, we'll probably get sent home, and we won't have anymore awesome international fashion to show our followers."
That struck a nerve with Jen.
"I'll do it...for the blog." she declared.
And she pushed herself forward, and the Fashion Bloggers ran ahead. Kelly was trying to drag Taylor along, and they managed to catch up the Fashion Bloggers. But the Fashion Bloggers got there first.
"Fashion Bloggers, you're 11th. And Mother and Daughter, sorry but you're out." Don told.
The two women sighed sadly.
"I can't believe we're out again." complained Taylor.
"Well at least we made an effort sweetie. And you did better than last time. Though there are still a few things about your attitude we need to change." Kelly told.
"Where are you getting this from?"
"A parenting article I saw online. It has lots of great advice."
Taylor just groaned.
