The Dream: Chapter 12
Keiko heard a knock on the sliding door to the mediation room as she was softly humming to Yusuke, who was still curled in a ball with his head on her lap. "Yeah?" "How is he doing?" Looking up at Genkai with tears in her eyes, "I don't really know. I've never seen him like this. He won't stop crying." "Keiko, I am not crying." Yusuke's voice was low, almost so much so that the two women could barely hear his complaining.
"Sit up dimwit." Obeying his teacher's order, he sat himself up but reached over to hold Keiko's hand in his. The feel of her presence seemed to be the only thing keeping him sane. His teary eyes reached Genkai's tired ones and he froze. She looks so old. No, she can't be getting old. She can't even think about leaving us yet. There is so much for her to see, me and Keiko's wedding. Kuwabara and Yukina's first child. Hiei killing Kuwabara for sleeping with his sister. Kurama… well I don't know what he wants. No she can't leave. "You old bitch, you can't leave us yet. You hear me? You have too much to see, too much we need you for," his screaming dulled back down to a slight whimper, "please don't leave me again."
"Dumbass, I can't trust you to run this place. Look at yourself, how could I ever leave and get some peace?" Hearing words so close to that which he heard after her first death, Yusuke couldn't help himself but roll around in a ball of laughter. "Yeah that's right old hag, I'm never going to get you any damn peace. Get use to it."
Smack. "Yusuke Urameshi, how dare you talk to Genkai like that after everything she has done for you. And coming in here to check on you," huffing in frustration at the clear recovery to his health, "You're an ass and I'm leaving." "Ohh Keiko wait," but she was already out the door and down the hall.
His eyes found their way back up to the much older pair looking down at him, "Look what you did grandma. Now she is going to be upset all day and after all that cuddling." He flopped back onto the ground, flat on his back. "Yusuke, how do you feel? Lilly's energy is gone and she is somewhere with Jin. The other's are starting to return, but you took this the worst." "Yeah, I don't know how to explain it. It was like when Raizen took over my body, there was a pull to go demon. But Keiko helped, I love her you know?" "Yes I do Yusuke, now get yourself up off the ground. We have much to talk about. Kurama and Hiei are back, and they brought along the infant."
Jin and Lilly were floating high in the sky, looking down over all of Genkai's land. "Wow so this is all Genkai's? It really is beautiful." She looked over towards Jin and his new demon appearance, "You know I'm glad you told me. Knowing about demons will help me understand what's going on inside my own body. Plus now this place seems even more important." She paused looking out towards the ocean, "I am glad I stayed."
Jin started laughing at her, "You think we would have let you leave?" "You saying you would have kidnapped me if I tried?" Instead of an answer Jin slowly let go of Lilly's hand and watched with a wide smile as she started to flail around screaming about falling to her death. "You see, no kidnap just plain demon powers."
"Jin you ass."
The two sat in the sky until the sun started to set, talking and laughing about life and all the things he had seen. On their way back to the temple she made him promise her something, "Jin promise me, after all this stuff gets figured out about what I am that you me and Touya will go on some trip. Somewhere new, just the three of us. Our happy little family." "Oy of course little Lilly."
Banging through the front door, Lilly found herself sensing déjà vu; back to the first day she came to the temple, with Yusuke banging through that front door and everyone sitting around waiting to hear her dream. She paused in the door way, looking at all the faces that have become her own messed up lying ass family. With an overwhelming feeling of joy flowing through her, she jumped to the first person in arms reach to give them a hug.
"Hey Lilly I know you're glad to see me and all, but get the hell off. I have a fiancé you know and she gets really jealous." "I do not Yusuke, and I'm just glad to see everyone is okay." Unlatching from Yusuke, Lilly pulled Keiko into an equally intense hug, "Yes everything is going to be okay, and I am so sorry Yusuke. Everyone! I did not mean to hurt any of you." Once again standing on her own to two feet, she finally got a good look at the half demon in front of her, "Oh damn Yusuke," winking at Keiko, "looking good in demon form, no wonder Keiko puts up with your childish ass." While Keiko couldn't help but giggle, feeling no threat from Lilly, Yusuke lunged towards her cursing that she was the cause of his new hair issues.
Bouncing around the room, hiding behind anything she could find Lilly teased the half breed to no end. "Oh come on now Yusuke, the tattoos and wolf teeth suit you. Plus I bet Keiko likes it in bed. Am I right Keiko?" "Ohh shut up you little flower of death. When I get my hands on you, I'm going to beat that power out of you." "Yusuke Urameshi, what would Kuwabara and his honor code think of that kind of talk? Do you have no shame?" "Why you…" The two danced around the room, while the on lookers threw their own comments in or just laughed at how sibling like the two truly acted.
"That's enough you two we have business to discuss." "Yeah Yusuke, listen to grandma before she gives you spankings." Yusuke took one last lunge at Lilly causing her to squeal and jump backwards, effectively landing in Hiei's lap as he sat in his usual spot on the windowsill. The whole room silenced and watched as Lilly stayed in his lap giggling as though nothing unusual had happened. But everyone was watching the certain demon very closely as he looked down at the young girl, grunted, and then turned his gaze out the window; making no effort to move her. Finally after catching her breath, she slid off Hiei's lap and took up the rest of the window seat next to him; everyone was in shock, never thinking Hiei could act that calm when being physically bombarded.
"Well aren't we going to talk about what's been going on? Please, I want to know what I truly am. I'm ready for the truth." Her excitement was written all over her face as Koenma, Kurama and Touya took a heavy sigh at the danger they could unleash with the new information.
Stupid little flower, why do I even bother staying?
So it looks like Lilly is really taking this whole demon thing well, and has officially joined the family by getting into a verbal fight with Yusuke. That does seem to be the golden ticket in or a real fight for others. And we get to see Hiei's concern for Lilly in the last chapter and his willingness to be close to her in this one, but no worries Kurama's time to shine is coming soon. Next chapter will be a bit of my own history and folklore added to the story, I hope you enjoy it!
