The Dream: Chapter 17

The dining room table was packed full of people, some familiar and others new to the temple. They had been sitting around the table talking for the past 30 minutes as Keiko and Yukina finished bringing the food out; Lilly sat in silence, her arms crossed over her body and her mind replaying the scene at the edge of the woods over and over. Finally Kuwabara's voice pulled her from her thoughts, "Yeah okay, we have something to tell you all." The smile on his face was as wide as ever and Yukina stood next to him holding him hand and smiling up at him, "We have an announcement that we wanted to tell you and… and well it is rather important." "Just get on with it Kuwabara I am starving." "Shut it Urameshi, I am trying to tell you something important." "Then just say it why don't you?" His smile had fallen from his face and now it was red with anger at his shorter dark haired friend, "Fine then, Yukina is moving in with me." He screamed at Yusuke, just inches from his face. "Really?" Keiko's sweeter voice was next to be heard, "Yeah, Kazuma asked me earlier today and I think it's a lovely idea." "Oh that's great, I am so happy for you." "Yeah, someone else can clean up after him now. Thank goodness." His voice was still in an angered scream, "Hey sis, you don't clean up after me and neither will Yukina. I am a grown man now." "Sure you are little bro." Lilly could clearly see the steam coming off Kuwabara and smiled to herself. "Ay so the little lass is moving in with Kuwabara? That is all? Alright good, time to eat I am starved." Kuwabara glared at the larger man, as Yusuke couldn't control his laughter and agreed on the eating part. Yukina looked up at him and smiled gently, "I am excited Kazuma." His anger deflated and the smile reappeared on his face as the couple sat down and they all started to eat.

About half through the meal, Lilly stopped to really look around. "Where's Jin?" "Ohh Jin left while you were out training with Kurama." Rinku's small voice always seemed so childish and innocent, but at that moment it brought her no comfort. "Where did he go?" "Ay don't know little Rose, he didn't say anything just left." She looked at Chu stuff his face, showing no concern over their missing friend. "Okay, but was he upset when he left?" "Don't know." She could feel herself getting angry, just as Kuwabara had earlier in the meal. "So one of your best friends just up and leaves with no explanation and you don't care to ask him if he was alright?" Her outburst silenced the whole room and everyone started to wonder where the wind bending demon ran off too, "Naw Jin will be back. He does this a lot, well a lot more before you showed up. Probably needed to go clear his head, after all I don't think he has been away from Touya for this long before." Her face was started to turn red at the simple uncaring nature of the two men who called themselves his best friend, "Yeah but you…" "He left, because I asked him to." Her anger instantly left as she turned to the old woman next to her in confusion, "You told him to leave, but why?" "I asked him to, because I needed him to get some things for me." "Ohh like what?" The older woman narrowed her eyes, "That is all, now can we please eat in peace?" Lilly sighed inwardly. This has really not been my day.

After dinner Lilly did not feel like hanging around with everyone, her mind had been spinning since her kiss and she just needed to be alone. She made her way out into the woods and found a small clearing. She sat there for a good hour or so, just looking up at the stars; she had never seen them shine this bright and it made her racing mind slow a bit. "Enough." Why was he so mad? He did kiss me back didn't he? Maybe I was not the one he wanted to be kissing, maybe he was just caught up in the moment. What if he has a girlfriend or someone he likes and I just kissed him out of nowhere? Oh God, I am such an idiot, of course he has a girlfriend just look at him.

As she continued to think about the possibility of Kurama actually liking her more than something to study, she could feel her sadness mix with her anger. She missed Jin and was worried for Touya, the others seemed to not care, and the one person that tried to talk to her about it all she drove away. Lilly stood up, hands shaking at her side as they clinched into fist, her eyes hidden by her bangs, and her breathing starting to increase. Oh fuck this. Fuck everyone here. Fuck this place. Fuck whatever I am. Fuck it all! She let out a small scream, but was stopped by the surge of energy she felt all around her. She concentrated on what it could be, it was not threatening nor comforting, just mounds of neutral energy circling her.

Nature. Really? I can sense nature's energy now. God I am such a freak. She let her anger consume her and she wanted to test Kurama's theory one more time, she turned to the trees to her left and let her own energy level rise. She reached out her hand to them and demanded they move. Nothing happened so she tried again, this time she felt them pull towards her but did not move besides their branches. Getting frustrated, she reached out both her arms and curled her fingers while pulling her hands back towards her and demanded they move; this time they did, she could feel three trees sliding against the ground, she could feel their pain of being up rooted and moved against their will, she could feel their long sensitive roots cutting through the dirt, she felt her own power. After she placed the trees in a straight line she looked at some nearby bushed and demanded they move, she felt the same as the tress, and she felt their pain and fear. Next she made flowers spring up far before their time and looked at what she had done and felt her energy flow through herself and into the plants before her. Alright Kurama, there you go I moved the damn fucking plants, now what? She stood still for a moment thinking about what everyone had said about who she was. Mother nature. Okay so I can control it all. She looked up towards the sky and saw a few small clouds rolling across the starry sky; again she raised her hands and demanded the water from the clouds, it obeyed much easier than the plants had as the rain softly ran down her skin. Just as she thought she was finished for the night as small gust of wind hit her wet body and a twisted smiled appeared on her face. Her faced the palms of her hands to the ground and demanded the wind rise her high above the ground, and much like it had done for Jin all those times, it swirled around her and lifted her high into the sky. She looked down at the ground below her and smirked. Take that Kurama.

But as she hovered in the air, her energy was picking up on all the plants around the clearing; they were in pain and were afraid. As she calmed back down, the wind slowly lowered her to the ground; she hung her head and felt the tears roll down her cheek. "I'm sorry, let me fix what I broke." Within a matter of minutes, the clearing looked as it had when she found it and much to her surprise all the pain of the plants was gone. She was again very much alone.

So, now that I have set it all up the way I want it. Next chapter is going to be a lot of fun! And probably another long one.
