Thanks everyone who's reviewed and still reading some fics haha.
The following evening..
Dean was pottering around his house, cleaning up as he waited for his dinner to be ready. He peered over at his brother who was getting restless, occasionally mumbling in his sleep.
The older brother frowned, trying to hear if he could understand any of the words. Chase got more frantic, more worked up as he started a fight with his sheets, his legs getting tangled in the process.
Dean quickly walked the few steps around to his brother, reaching down and tapping his shoulder "Hey, Chase"
Chase inhaled deeply, not waking.
"Chase, hey. Wake up!" Dean shouted sternly, crouching down beside his brother and squeezing his brothers upper arm firmly
Chase's eyes shot open, his breath hitching as he tried to inhale deeply.
He choked out on his own saliva, half sitting up with his hands pressed into the lounge.
"Breathe" Dean gently coaxed, placing a hand on his brothers back that was hastily rising.
Chase's eyes momentarily shut, he was trying to get his breath back as he stared down at the sheets
"Keep breathing, deep breaths" the older brother continued, moving his hand to his brothers chest
Chase pushed his hand away, shaking his head "I'm fine" he choked out
"Yeah, sure you are" Dean muttered, raising his eyebrow
The younger brother finally breathed in deeply, letting out a shaky breath. He moistened his throat, swallowing hard as he pushed himself around and sat
He bit his lip, his eyes shutting monetarily "I am going to shower"
"How about we just wait till your breathing is under control?" Dean asked, raising his eyebrow
"I am fine" Chase replied, shifting his body to the edge of the bed
"You haven't really stood since coming home this morning, I don't think having a hot-"
"I am fine, I said. Just let me be" Chase spat back, glancing up at his brother.
He could see the concern in his eyes, as much as Dean tried to hide it and hold up his stoic big brother persona. He could see he was worried, he knew he'd put his brother in a state of worry since he found him drunk, since Bingo had died
"Please" he added softly, his eyes flickering away from his brother
Dean raised his hands, "Sure, call out if you need"
Chase barely nodded, gingerly getting up and looking through his bags for some clothes.
He found them, slowly moving through to the bathroom.
Dean watched as his brother left, running his hand over his face.
The youngest brother stepped into the bathroom, shutting the door behind him.
He walked over to the sink, starring at himself in the mirror.
He looked so defeated, completely numb.
He'd never felt this way before, he'd seen countless accidents.
He'd seen people worse off, he'd watched people fall from buildings, but somehow this one shocked him.
Hit him right to the core.
'He didn't even like the guy' he told him self stripping off, turning to get into the shower.
He ran the hot water, a small amount of cold and stepped in and letting it hit harshly into him, scolding his skin, but not caring or feeling.
The youngest brother crouched to the floor, sitting on the cold tiles of the shower.
Tears flooded him, over powering his train of thought.
All he could think of was Bingo, was him laying there dead on the floor.
The image of the truck driving into him hitting on replay and no matter how hard he tried he couldn't get it out of his head.
Chase sat, staring out towards the shower window, no intention of getting up.
Dean grew concerned outside, his brother had been in the shower for over twenty minutes now.
He stood at the door, knocking on it loudly "Chase, you ok in there?" he called out, pressing his ear to the door
Chase didn't respond, he could hear his brother but he didn't want to respond, he couldn't respond.
"Chase?" Dean persisted
He sighed when he got no answer again, "I am coming in Chase" he said before opening the door.
The room was filled with steam that escaped when the door opened.
Dean could see his littlest brother sitting in the shower, the shower screen puzzling it.
"Chase, you need to come out. This hot of a shower won't make you feel very good" he explained
Chase didn't respond, the only sounds coming out where the sounds of the water hitting the floor.
But Dean had super hearing, or what he used to call Big Brother super sonic hearing when his brother was little, he could hear him softly crying.
"Chasie" Dean sighed, shutting his eyes momentarily as he ran his hand over his head
"I'm going to turn the shower off and pass you a towel. I need you to come out for me" He explained, reaching to grab a towel folded nearby
Dean opened the shower door, his eyes averting up as he wanted to somewhat respect his brothers privacy.
He turned the taps off, turning and grabbing a towel
"Take this kid, wrap it around you and come out" Dean said, his eyes focusing to the side
Chase softly took the towel, shakily attempting to stand up. The word 'kid' hit him deep in his core.
Dean caught the movement out of the corner of his eye, instinctively grabbing his brothers arm to keep him stable.
"You're ok" he said quietly, not moving his glance away from the side
Chase barely nodded, wrapping the towel around him
"I-I'm good" he said softly, turning to face his brother
Dean turned, finally actually setting eyes on his brother.
Fuck, he is distraught
"Let's sit you outside, walk with me. Slowly" he coaxed
Chase barely nodded, everything dizzying around him.
He shakily breathed in and slightly grabbed his brothers arm for support
He stumbled a little, the older brother grabbing him a bit more supportively.
Dean led him to the lounge room, "Let's lay you down out here, you've over heated yourself and I can guarantee your BP is through the roof"
Chase barely nodded, he felt his brother lay him down onto the floorboards, he watched his brother disappear, returning only a few seconds later with a pillow.
Chase felt his head be lifted up, the comfort of the pillow placed under.
"Don't move, I will be back" he said, patting his brothers shoulder
Dean sighed, hastily walking off into the bathroom and grabbing some face cloths, drowning them in cool water.
He returned to his brother, kneeling down beside him.
He folded the cloths over, placing one on top of his brothers forehead and the other two around his brothers wrist. The older brother then placed his fingers against his brothers neck, feeling his pulse before watching his watch.
Chase watched his brother, blinking slowly as he watched him bite his lip and look at his watch with intent.
He felt his brother pull away from his neck and sit down properly, watching him but still giving him some space.
Chase watched his brother, his big brother who had always been there for him, no matter what.
His big brother was the one who was there for him when their parents split.
Dean was the one there for him when he had his first day of school, even if his brother was fifteen.
His big brother was the one who was there for him when he lost his first patient at a rescue.
Dean was the one there for him when he fell off his skateboard when he was eight.
He felt Dean's presence leave and glanced further up when he could hear him in the kitchen, glasses and ice being clinked. .
He saw him return, carrying a glass of water
"Sit up for me a little" Dean explained, placing his hand around his brother back and helping guide him up
"Hold this and have some sips" Dean said, placing the glass over to his brother
Chase took it, shakily taking some sips of the water before handing it back to his brother
"No, more please" Dean encouraged
Chase barely nodded and drank more water, before handing it back to his brother.
"Thanks" he said quietly
"I'll go get your stuff and you can get changed" Dean explained before standing and walking into the bathroom to retrieve his brothers clothes
"Get dressed, hop into the lounge and I'll bring you something little to eat" Dean explained, standing and turning to go into his kitchen
The older brother put some toast on, glancing over when he heard Chase sit on the sofa.
A few minutes later Dean walked to his brother, handing him over a couple of pieces of toast with butter
"Nothing big, but might make you feel a bit better" he said, handing over the plate
Chase nodded, "Thanks"
The younger brother ate the toast, his eyes feeling heavy and all he wanted to do was to go to sleep.
He placed the empty plate on the side table and sunk down into the bed, pulling the covers up to his chest, wrapping his body tightly inside.
Dean glanced up, hearing his front gate open. His father was walking the steps up to the front door, Dean sighed and walked towards his father.
"Come in, don't wake him" he said quietly shutting the door behind his Dad
He walked into his kitchen, sighing as he pulled his dinner out of the oven. He placed it into a bowl and returned back towards the dinning table and sitting down.
"So, what's going on with him?" Shane asked gruffly, tilting his head over towards his son
Dean glanced up, from eating his food frowning "He's hurting, he's really upset" he said softly
Chase's eyes fluttered, waking from his what seemed like very short nap.
He could hear the muffled voices in the distance and knew the all to familiar hostility of the voices
"He's an adult Dean, not a kid anymore" Shane responded, shaking his head annoyed
"Even when he was a kid, you never let him be upset" Dean responded, his voice stern
"Uh, I seem to remember him being upset a lot in your arms, or Lachie's" Shane spat back, raising his eyebrow
"Yeah, because you would call him weak or -." Dean started to say but stopped, letting out a exhale of breath
"Look, if you've come here to cause issues you can leave. He's had a rough last two days" He said more calmly, raising his hands
Shane shook his head, "I told you when he was younger that you needed to be stern with him, you and your brother are both tough. Both don't show any weakness and your brother just oozes it, he -."
Chase felt even more defeated, his fathers words hitting him harshly
Dean shushed his Dad, "Shut up Dad, I don't even know if he's asleep. He could be faking it for all I know and you're here ripping into him"
Shane glared at this eldest son, "Don't tell me to shut up, I'm only here because your other brother rang me and gave me a mouthful too. You both always did take him under your wing, held his hand and mollycoddled him"
"Like I said to you the other night, Lachie is half way around the world and cares for Chase more than you do. You can leave now Dad, I need to go to bed myself. I am tired." he explained, raising up from the chair
Shane huffed, running his hand over his head "Yeah, sure Dean"
Dean followed his father out, shutting the door behind him and locking it.
He turned and ran his hand over his mouth, clenching his jaw in frustration.
He shook his head, frustrated as he replayed his fathers words over in his head as he walked back towards the dining table.
Dean turned and glanced at his brother, his heart sinking when he saw him awake
"Chase" he said softly
