Season 4 Chapter 15: Ambushed!
Unidrac600: I'm not so sure either. For Pendulums, I think it's because of the fact that you can pendulum summon multiple monsters at once but that arguement is invalid because it's been nerfed since Master Rule 4. For Links, it's probably because it's too easy to summon? I don't know either... In this story, all summoning methods are going to be here, Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum and Link.
"Now, I've brought you here to give you two options, come with me willingly or I'll force you, Takeru Homura!" Rook demanded Soulburner.
"What? How did you know who am I?"
"It was rather simple. We collected your data signatures during your duels and matched it with the data base. We own over 30% share of the network. As such, we can easily compare it to our data base. I am rather surprised that Queen had not thought of such a thing."
"No, I will not go with you. If there is one thing I've learnt about your group is that you cannot be trusted. Your group and the Hanoi were involved in the Lost Incident 10 years ago. I will not forgive you so easily, much less follow you."
"So, you refuse to help us then. Then I guess we'll settle this in a duel." Soulburner activated his duel disk. A deck appears beside the chess piece.
"Master Duel!"
Soulburner vs Rook
Turn 1: Soulburner.
"I start first. I summon Salamangreat Gazelle activates it's effect, sending Salamangreat Spinny from deck to GY. Spinny's effect from GY activates, special summoning itself from the GY since I control a Salamangreat Monster from my field. Then I overlay Level 3 Gazelle and Spinny to build the Overlay Network! The flaming wild horse that cuts through illusions! Xyz Summon! Rank 3! Salamangreat Miragestallio! (2000/900, OL: 2)" Soulburner's first Xyz monster was summoned into the field.
"Miragestallio's effect activates, by detaching 1 overlay unit (Miragestallio OL: 2 - 1), I summon Salamangreat Jack Jaguar from my deck. Appear! The circuit that changes the future! Summoning conditions require 2 Fire Effect monsters! I use Miragestallio and Jack Jaguar in the Link Marker! Link Summon! Link 2! Salamangreat Sunlight Wolf! Jack Jaguar's effect activates from GY, returning Miragestallio to Extra Deck to special summon itself to Sunlight wolf's link arrow. Sunlight Wolf's effect activates when Jack Jaguar is summoned into it's link arrow, adding Gazelle from GY to hand."
"With this, you can summon your ace monster isn't it?" Soulburner narrowed his eyes. While he could summon Heatleo, something tells him to hold back as he couldn't go into the battle phase on the first turn of the duel.
"Not what I am intend to do right now. I use Jack Jaguar to Link Summon Link 1, Salamangreat Balelynx. Balelynx's effect when summoned adds Salamangreat Santuary from deck to hand. I activate Santuary and then... Reincarnation Link Summon! Link 1! Salamangreat Balelynx"
"What's the point of resummoning your Link 1? It's such a waste doing that." Rook has known about Soulburner's Reincarnation Link Summon. However, as far as he remembers, Soulburner never has a Link 1 monster that ever has a Reincarnation Link Summon effect like his Heatleo.
"I set one card and end my turn."
"You made some weak moves. For someone whose skills are on par with Playmaker, I'm disappointed. Now then..."
Turn 2: Rook
"It's my turn, draw!"
"I activate Mathmech Circular from his hand, sending Mathmech Sigma to the GY to Special Summon itself. Sigma's effect activates since I control no monsters in the Extra Monster Zone, it special summons itself from the GY. Since a Mathmech monster has just been summoned, Circular's effect activates, I add Mathmech Equation from deck to hand. Then I overlay level 4 Circular and Sigma! Xyz Summon! Rank 4! Primathmech Alembertian (OL: 2)!"
"Alembertian's effect activates, by detaching both of it's materials (OL: 2 - 0), I add Mathmech Superfactorial to hand. Then I activate Subtraction's effect in my hand to decrease Sunlight Wolf's ATK by 1000 to special summon itself."
"I activate Salamangreat Roar. Subtraction's effect is negated and destroyed."
"In that case, Alembertian's effect activates, tributing itself to special summon Sigma from GY. Then I normal summon Diameter activates it's effect on summon, I special summon Circular from my GY. Then I overlay all of 3 my level 4 monsters! Xyz Summon! Rank 4 Primathmech Laplacian (OL: 3)!"
"I detach 2 of Laplacian's materials (Laplacian OL: 3 - 1) to activate two of it's three effects on summon, The first sends your monster, Sunlight Wolf to the GY and the second is to send a random card in your hand to the GY!" Laplacian charges it's sword as the two overlay units revolves around the sword. Then Laplacian striked twice, the first went to Sunlight Wolf and the second was a card in Soulburner's hand.
"Battle! Laplacian attacks Balelynx!" After Laplacian charges towards Balelynx as it stabs Balelynx. (Soulburner: 4000 - 2500)
"I set 2 cards and end my turn."
Turn 3: Soulburner
"I draw and activate Fury of Fire, I summon Sunlight Wolf and Balelynx from GY. Appear! The circuit that changes the future! Summoning Conditions are 2 FIRE effect monsters! I set Link 1 Balelynx and Link 2 Sunlight Wolf into the Link Markers! Link Summon! Link 3! Salamangreat Heatleo (2300)." Soulburner's ace monster was summoned.
"Heatleo's effect, I send your set card to your deck. Resounding Roar!" Heatleo roars which the set card returns to Rook's deck.
"Battle! Heatleo attack Laplacian. Heat Soul!" Heatleo dives through towards Laplacian, destroying it. (Rook: 4000 - 3700).
"I set a card face down and end my turn. How's that for being weak?"
Turn 4: Rook
"To be honest, I've expected you to summon your ace. Now's let's see if you can handle this. I draw"
"I activate Equation, summoning Circular from GY and then Circular gains 1000 ATK until the end of the turn (Circular ATK: 1500 - 2500). Then I activate Mathmech Subtraction from my hand to reduce Heatleo's ATK by 1000 to summon itself (Heatleo ATK: 2300 - 1300). Circular's effect activates, adding Mathmech Billionblade Nayuta to hand."
"Battle. Circular attacks Heatleo!" Circular throws its weapon at Heatleo.
"Trap card activate! Salamangreat Geyser! I return Sunlight Wolf from GY to reduce Circular's ATK by 1000 per Sunlight Wolf's Link Marker! (Circular ATK: 2500 - 500)." Heatleo swipes the weapon away from itself.
"Now Heatleo's ATK is stronger than yours!" The weapon that Heatleo swiped now runs towards the direction of Circular. Soon, it lands onto the monster, destroying it. (Rook: 3700 - 3400).
"Well, not what I've expected. But now it's time to bring my ace into the battlefield. I summon Mathmech Nabla and then I tune the Level 4 Nabla with the Level 4 Subtraction! Blaze through the ashes as it combines the forces of destruction! Synchro Summon! Level 8, Synchro Tuner, Geomathmech Magma!" A volcano erupts as Magma arises from the volcano, being summoned onto the field.
"Synchro Tuner? What kind of monster is that?"
"When Magma destroys a monster in battle, I can target up to 2 cards you control to destroy them. If you don't destroy Magma on your turn, your field will be destroyed by Magma. While during the end phase Heatleo's ATK returns, it falls short to Magma's ATK."
Turn 5: Soulburner
"For now, it does. But you have yet to seen Heatleo's true power! I draw! I activate Salamangreat Santurary's effect, I use Heatleo as an entire material to Link Summon! Surging flame, awaken Heatlio's true strength with the power of purification! Reincarnation Link Summon! Resurrect, the king of beasts that runs through the fire prairie! Salamangreat Heatleo!"
"The Reincarnation Link Summoned Heatleo's effect, Magma's ATK has now the same ATK of Balelynx's ATK of 500! Flame Possession!" (Magma ATK: 2500 - 500)
"Then I activate Salamangreat Fang. Fang increases Heatleo's ATK by 300 for every Link Rating I control on the field. Since I only control the Link 3 Heatleo, Heatleo's ATK increases by 900! (Heatleo: 2300 - 3200)"
"Battle! Heatleo attacks Magma! Heat soul!" (Rook: 3400 - 700).
"Since the Reincarnation Link Summoned Heatleo destroyed your Magma, Fang's effect inflicts you damage equal to half of Magma's ATK! It's over Rook!" Heatleo aims its weapon against Rook. Soon, it fires a barrage of flames at Rook. However, Rook remained unscathed.
"What? How are you still in this duel?"
"I discard Hanewata from my hand to activate it's effect, for the rest of the turn, I do not take effect damage. And then, I'll activate Magma's effect since it's destroyed, I add 1 "Mathmech" spell/trap card from deck to hand. I add Mathmech Logarithm.
"I end my turn"
"I must thank you. Because you destroyed my Magma, I can bring out Magma's full power. During the End phase, I activate Mathmech Superfactorial. I summon the Level 4 Sigma, Subtraction and Circulation from my GY and then I Synchro Summon using those monsters. The forces of destruction shall combine all elements to form the absolute! Synchro Summon! Level 12! Geomathmech Final Sigma!" A greek symbol Sigma appears as a shadow of Magma was thrown into a Volcano. As the volcano once again erupts, it causes an inferno around, summoning Final Sigma.
Turn 6: Rook
"Now it's time to crush you like a bug you are! I draw! I activate Billionblade Nayuta onto Final Sigma. Then I activate Addition's effect from my hand to increase Final Sigma's ATK by 1000 in order to special summon itself (Final Sigma ATK: 3000 - 4000). I activate Logarithm, sending Division and Sigma from deck to GY. Since they are sent to the GY, Division's effect activates, Heatleo's ATK is halved! (Heatleo's ATK: 2300 - 1150). I activate another effect Logarithm by banishing itself from GY to send Addition to the GY to add Subtraction from GY to hand. Then I activate Subtraction's effect from hand to special summon itself by reducing Heatleo's ATK by 1000 (Heatleo's ATK: 1150 - 150)."
"Your monster is now very weak to mine. Battle! Final Sigma attacks Heatleo! If you think this is over, I make sure your soul is crushed along with your monster! Billionblade Nayuta's effect activates when the equipped Final Sigma attacks, sending Mathmech Multiplication from deck to GY to have Final Sigma gain ATK equal to Multiplication's ATK (Final Sigma's ATK: 4000 - 4500). Then Multiplication's effect activates when sent to GY, targeting Final Sigma and have the targeted monster's ATK doubled (Final Sigma's ATK: 4500 - 9000). And finally, when Final Sigma battles, it deals double damage." As Final Sigma raises his sword, flames consumes Final Sigma as his sword took shape of a phoenix.
"What?"
"Yes, with all that, you will take a total of 17700 battle damage. Be gone!" Final Sigma raised his sword downwards as the Phoenix incernates Heatleo. (Soulburner: 2500 - 0).
Rook Wins!
As Rook approaches to Soulburner with the intent to kidnap him, he had received a call.
"Damn it Queen, what do you want?"
"Rook, report to King directly. King is being compromised!"
"But I am about to capture the originator of the Fire Ignis. Send someone else like Knight or Bishop to him"
"Knight has been taken out and we are unable to contact Bishop."
"Tch, must I always do the dirty work myself?" Rook abandons his mission as he leaves.
Custom Cards:
Rook:
Mathmech Logarithm (Spell)
Send 2 "Mathmech" monsters from your deck to the GY but you cannot special summon those monsters with the same name for the rest of the turn. You can banish this card from your GY; send 1 "Mathmech" Monster you control to the GY to add 1 "Mathmech" card from your GY to your hand.
A/N: Before I started on this fic, this matchup was quite literally the first thing that came into my mind, Salamangreat vs Mathmech. I didn't decide who would use what deck at the time. I chose of this match up mainly because I find it interesting to see how Salamangreats would fare against Mathmech. While I was trying out Mathmechs, I defeated Salamangreat decks with an OTK Final Sigma.
Soulburner also has this issue in Vrains that like with Playmaker, he keeps winning. Soulburner's only loss was against Bohman. So I had to even the odds. But unlike Playmaker, him losing is not going to be a character development for him. That part is solely for Playmaker only.
Also, I don't think that I am potraying Soulburner's duels well so far. Soulburner usually would summon Heatleo on his turn 1 but for this story, he's playing like how an OCG/TCG duelist would play on their turn 1 on his deck, passing on Sunlight wolf instead of Heatleo. But I've written how this duel play out on nearly a year ago (November 2022) and I don't think it'll be great to scrap it, especially when I have a few more duels being done on the later few duels. If anyone expected Raging Phoenix/Burst Gryphon to be out, sorry, not here. Maybe in future duels it'll be out. Though I must say that I've planned a stronger Salamangreat monster before those monsters were out. Because these monsters were out, I've planned to delay the debut of that stronger monster to be much later.
Just an extra detail here, from the very beginning of this story until this chapter, this is currently September 2019 which is the month that Vrains ended. It was on June 2019 when Season 3 happened. Season 2 happened on April 2019 to May 2019. It was given by the anime that from Season 1 to 2, it took 3 months so Season 1 happened on December 2018 to January 2019.
