Illidan then summoned a portal before us and took us to a place called Stormwind. Along the way he told me that on Azeroth, there were two factions. One was the Alliance and the other the Horde. Stormwind City was the capital of the Alliance, and the place where I would meet a possible mentor. He told me about this man as if he liked him, and he is apparently faithful to the light and had mastery in both healing and fighting with it. I was never any good at fighting so the possibility frightened me, but I didn't want to rely on Illidan for everything: Though I enjoyed being protected by him, I didn't want to be helpless myself. This magic inside me was a gift from somewhere and I knew I had to use it. Whatever this prophecy, I was important to someone.
The city was magnificent, even better than I imagined. This was the future compared to the city I lived in. Unlike ours, it was bright and full of color and people of all sorts of races and look. I was in awe at how many different types of people lived her together. I was happy to be in this town full of bustling people and incredible architecture. Many of the buildings were white, and the large one in front of us was no exception. It was a castle with statues and guards before it. Illidan set us down here and we began walking in. While the guards at the door didn't stop us, they did give us a look.
The long corridor held rooms on each side, but we passed them until the hall opened out into a large circular room. Standing in the center of the room were two... people. One a human man, probably mid 30s with shoulder-length brown hair. The other was an older man, but he wasn't human. His skin was purple but brighter compared to Illidans, and from his face sprouted four tentacle-like limbs. His hair was white and his beard reached past his waist. They turned to look at us as we approached. The man had a strangely shaped head, and floating in front of his forehead was a white glowing rune.
"Illidan," the man smiles at him. I was surprised by his reaction. I assumed everyone disliked Illidan here, but this man seemed happy to see him. "You've returned."
His eyes switch to me and they widen. His mouth drops open. "By the light..." He approaches closer. "And you have brought the savior."
I look to Illidan, but he doesn't seem fazed. If he trusted the man, then I wasn't afraid of him. He did look quite strange though.
"Velen, you know these two?" the human male speaks. His voice was deeper than I expected. His regalia suggested he was royalty, and he held himself befitting it. On his side was a large weapon like a mace, and on his back a shield. His armor looked pretty heavy.
Velen in contrast, had a staff on him and wore lighter clothing; a long decorated robe with jeweled shoulder pads that had pieces taller than his head coming from the top. The clothing in this world sure was strange. I look down at myself in the pink velvet dress I had been wearing. I'd forgotten I had passed out while naked, and Illidan must have redressed me in it. I looked like a frumpy messed compared to everyone here, my hair not seeing a brush for two days now. Apparently it wasn't bad enough for Illidan to fix it before we went to see them, though.
"Yes," Velen looks back to the man. "Nikolai, this is Illidan Stormrage. He saved Azeroth from the Burning Legion more than once. And beside him is Eden, the girl I prophesized to bless us with the light."
He looks to Illidan with confusion. "Illidan Stormrage the Betrayer?"
Velen laughs. "You will have to forgive him Illidan. This is King Nikolai Wrynn of Stormwind. As you can see not much has changed here since you left."
I stayed quiet as they spoke. I felt as if I didn't belong there. These people were famous, and I was no one. I was face to face with a king and I wasn't sure how to react. My fear kept me from speaking up, what if I said the wrong thing?
"Actually I came for you, Velen."
Illidan doesn't even acknowledge the king, and I get nervous for him. He couldn't ignore someone so powerful like that, right? Still, no one seemed to be offended by him.
"I assume in regards to the savior. Let us take this conversation elsewhere." He turns back to the king. "Nikolai I will speak with them and return to you."
"Very well."
Nikolai stays there as the three of us exit the room into an isolated square garden in the courtyard. It was rather pretty the bit of nature surrounded by the stone castle. We sit at a table in the garden.
"Eden," Velen looks at me with a smile. "It is so good to finally meet you. I predicted your arrival a long time ago, but I did not know when you would come. Welcome to Azeroth."
I smile nervously. "Thanks."
"Velen what is this prophecy exactly?" Illidan interrupts.
"I saw the arrival of a girl named Eden from another world. She would be able to turn any magic into light. She would purify us of the darkest sorcery in the land."
"That would be?" he asks impatiently.
"While things in the Alliance have remained... somewhat stable, the Horde is a different story," he sighed. "Sylvanas had become corrupted too far to lead her people. Since you left she ripped open the way to the afterlife and plunged the world into chaos. Darkness had taken hold of her and while we we able to close the portal... it still remains to be vanquished."
"Why do I feel as if you are leaving something out?"
Velen sighs at him. "That is all I saw in my vision. Eden will have much to do before we can fix Azeroth." He looks over to me. "I can see the light within you is strong, but you will need help if we wish to defeat this threat."
I became frightened, realizing these people really intended me to save them from darkness. I was merely hoping to control magic, not save an entire planet. I looked at Illidan nervously, and he grabbed my hand in his almost to reassure me. It helped.
"What should I do?" I ask him.
"I will teach you the basics of the light, and I will have Nikolai train with you as well. He is a prodigy of the light, a paladin and chosen one as you are."
Illidan sniggers next to me. "Chosen one? That title is meaningless."
"Hm," Velen smiles and looks down. "The light chose you as well Illidan. And though you rejected it, great power lives within you. None can wield opposing magics as you."
"Eden will not be another the light can control," he slams his fist on the table. "I will not allow it."
"I see you care for her, Illidan," he smiles. "But Eden must choose her path."
I listened intently to them but couldn't follow their conversation. I didn't understand what was happening, or what they were talking about. All I wanted was to control what was inside me. I didn't want to be a chosen one or become controlled by the light.
I suddenly stood and let go of Illidans hand. I closed my eyes and imagined I was elsewhere. I didn't want to listen to them anymore talking about my life as if it were already decided. I told myself I was back in the fields we arrived in. Lush grass surrounding us, a beautiful blue sky. No castles with men clad in armor, no kings, and no Velen. I felt the sun upon my face and it felt like my skin was burning. When I opened my eyes, I was no longer in the courtyard.
This was where we saw Malfurion. I look around, but the field is empty. Did my magic bring me here? I look down at my hands but see nothing out of the ordinary. I wasn't sure what to do. I was actually frightened without Illidan by my side. I should have brought him with me. Maybe he was right after all, and I should have just gone home before I even heard of this. At first I was excited to have a purpose, but then I realized what it entailed. I wanted to run away from this destiny he spoke of. I wanted this magic out of me. All I-
"Eden?"
I barely heard the person approach from behind me as I was consumed by my thoughts. I turn to see a woman in a beautiful long white dress, with pale pink skin and hair the color of ocean sea foam. Her eyes glowed blue and her head adorned an intricate crown. I was captivated by her beauty and the sound of her voice. My second thought wondered how she knew my name. I turned to face her.
"Do I know you?" I ask, hoping I didn't come off as rude.
She smiles in return to my question. "My name is Tyrande. I woke you from your slumber."
"Oh."
This was the night elf that Illidan had loved. I could see why... she was quite beautiful. Even more beautiful than I. She was tall and slender and held herself as if she were a queen, which I assumed she was because of the crown. It was no surprise why Illidan had feelings with her. I suddenly became jealous for no reason.
"Why have you come back?" she asks sweetly.
Her voice only made me angry now, knowing who she was. I tried not to let the cloud my words though. Her intentions seemed genuine.
"I..." I debated whether to tell her the truth. I couldn't lie, I knew that. Something about her compelled me to spill everything. "I heard of my destiny to save Azeroth and I became afraid. Somehow I teleported myself back here."
"Come with me," she gestures me to follow her. I begin walking with her and she continues, "I know much about the light myself. I can help you understand it better."
For some reason I felt much better with her than Velen. He seemed intent on my destiny and saving the planet while Tyrande seemed to only want to help me immediately. I was happy that I might learn to deal with this strange new feeling. As I teleported here, I had felt the strange tingling again but realized it was more of a burning sensation. As if my skin had a flame to it. I couldn't imagine how everyone on this world dealt with magic so easily. Though maybe it was because I had never known magic my entire life.
She led me back to the building where I had awoken at. As we walked, I noticed the large water source behind the building. My breath almost caught in my throat as I realized what it was. It glinted almost the same as the water in Illidans fountain.
"Is that..." I gesture to the lake.
"Yes," she replies almost solemnly as if she didn't like it. "It is the Well of Eternity created by Illidan."
Indeed, his gift was not appreciated. I laughed to myself at Illidans actions. To be branded a Betrayer for gaining power. There was probably more to the story I had missed, and I wished to know it.
"That is why they call him the Betrayer? Because he made this well that the demons were going to use as a portal?" I ask Tyrande.
"That is not the whole story."
She leads me into the temple ruin that sits across from the lake. I hadn't noticed before, but there was no furniture aside from a few benches. It was empty. She sat me down on a white stone bench and took my hands in hers.
"Be wary of Illidan," she says. "During the time he created this second well, he betrayed his people to side with the Legion. After his imprisonment he again carried out their orders upon the Black Temple and was defeated, only to return and defeat them once and for all. He never shared his true intentions with anyone. I fear he is keeping far too many secrets even from you."
I nod at her words. I already knew he kept his reasons to himself but I never believed he actually betrayed anyone. Her words didn't bother me though. I knew Illidan would never truly betray anyone he cared for. Tyrande must have been blinded by her perception of him. I had no doubt though that her last sentence was true. It was difficult to deal with, and I might need to address it with him.
"I understand," I reply.
She turns my palms over and looks at my hands. "You have the light of a healer in you."
"A healer?" I ask and examine my hands.
"You will have incredible ability greater than any of my priestesses. You must hone your skills if you wish to understand this power."
Tyrandes words soothed me compared to Velens. He only talked of saving Azeroth and fighting darkness whereas Tyrande spoke of my healing gift. I wished for it to be true, though I had no idea how to do it.
"Close your eyes," she says to me. I obey. "Imagine the light flowing from your hands and healing another's wound."
I struggled to imagine such a thing, but I first started by remembering the light that burst out of me and knocked Illidan back.
"Look," I open my eyes in response. "You summoned the light to harm another, not to heal. Try again."
My hands glowed with a faint orange light that glinted. I closed my eyes again and instead imagined healing Illidan. My hands going over him and from them, a healing light that sealed and repaired his injury.
"You've done it," she says happily.
My eyes open again and the light I created was different than before. This was more yellow-white and flowed gently like the wind from my palms. It was beautiful. I'd forgotten about the feeling in my body from the magic as I released it. I was ecstatic to learn more.
"Wow," I say.
"Practicing will be key. If you wish it our sentinels and priestesses could use your skills in the fight against the Horde. You will learn much from them and I will guide you."
I smile at her words. The idea did intrigue me. While I was definitely afraid of war and battles, which is what it sounded like she was speaking about, I wanted to use my abilities to help others and fight a just cause. With Tyrande helping me, I had no doubt I would learn quickly. Before I could reply to her, Illidan walks through the entryway and glares at us.
"Eden," he says angrily.
I take my hands out of Tyrandes and stand upon his arrival. I was glad to see him.
"Illidan-"
"Tyrande what have you done to her?" He walks over and pulls me away from her as Tyrande sits there innocently. I wanted to tell him myself, but he didn't address me.
"I did nothing," she replies. "I merely helped the girl."
Illidan looked as if he didn't believe her. "Eden will not be your pawn Tyrande."
"Illidan stop!" I yell at him and push him off of me. He was getting too clingy even for my liking.
"Lets go," I pull him away and look back at Tyrande. "Will you excuse us," I say with a forced smile.
She nods and watches us leave. Illidan doesn't fight against me as I lead him outside. When we were alone, I gave him an angry look.
"What's wrong with you?" I ask.
"What is wrong with me?" he scoffs. "I told you to leave, and you decided to stay yet you ran away from me? I thought you were in danger."
I bit my lip. He was right. I didn't mean to leave without him and he must have been worried. I was scared without him too, but that didn't give him the right to decide things for me. I would make my own decisions.
"I'm sorry," I reply. "I didn't mean to leave you. I just thought about this place and somehow I was here..." I looked up at him with a soft expression and put my hand on his chest. "I was afraid without you... but Tyrande really did help. Look."
I nod down for him to look at my hands. From them I summon the healing light again, showing him the brilliant white magic that resonated from them. I was surprised I had grasped it so easily and could replicate it again. It looked even more incredible in front of Illidan. He gazed at it with curiosity.
"And she offered me to help her fight the Horde-"
"What?" Illidan interrupts angrily. "That is too dangerous. I will not allow you on the battlefield."
I sigh at him. I was scared to fight too, but for some reason I trusted Tyrande and wanted to help them. "What do you suggest I do then?" I counter.
"Do as Velen suggested and study the light before you use these powers impetuously and injure yourself."
"How can I sit back and study when people are out there getting hurt?" I ask him. "It would be foolish to hide and pretend nothing is happening when I have the ability to help."
"Eden listen to yourself." Illidan growls and grabs my face in his hands. I leaned back my head and met his eyes. "You will stay out of harm until you learn to control yourself. You are useless as you are now."
"Useless?" I reply.
With all the strength in me I summoned I shoved Illidan back and light burst from my hands. Unlike last time though, he didn't waver. He merely looked at me as if I just proved him right. I felt like it was powerful... but I wasn't sure where I went wrong.
"Why didn't that work?" I ask him.
"Because you know nothing of fighting."
Well, I couldn't argue with that. We find Tyrande again and I tell her the bad news, but reassure her that once I get a grasp on magic, I would return to help her. Illidan then portals us back to Stormwind where I would begin learning and training with Velen and Nikolai. I was excited, but couldn't help worrying what was in store for me. What did Velens vision leave out?
