Scene Change: Outskirts of the Village of Hunters, Year x767

Rep P.O.V

If I had a nickel for every time I've had to save a woman from a green furred ape, I would have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's still pretty weird that it happened twice. Just one punch from the knuckle busters of Model F and it was out cold before it could react.

Ok, jokes aside. Why did this happen? I was searching for the "forbidden grounds" that the totally not suspicious mayor was talking about, only to find a woman running from a forest vulcan with that pervy look on its face. Only for it to direct that same look at me as soon as it saw me. I've gotten disensitised to it at this point given how many times I've beaten down the vulcan at home but it's still pretty annoying given I. AM. MALE.

I mean I don't mind the feminine looks since it's just a side effect from being adjusted to match the biometals better, don't get me wrong. The power of the biometals is really nice, and I practically have eternal youth because of it, but still It would be nice to be recognized as a guy once in a while. Albeit a really short one. With long hair. Wearing a skintight bodysuit that is actually just my skin. And have a permanently girly face since puberty has come and gone at this point.

That's never gonna happen is it?

Tangent aside, there are still a few red flags in this situation. Knowing how Bruno is, chivalry and all that, this might be a trap that he fell for. So I had HUD keep up some prepatory scanning of the area in advance for any ambushes before turning to her.

"Are you hurt?" I asked using X's tone, while trying to hide my suspicion.

"No, I'm fine." She said with a slight shake in her voice.

I helped her up and while she seemed a little shaken she managed to stand on her own. Even if this whole thing was a bit suspicious I can't just treat her like an enemy right off the bat. Innocent until proven guilty. I wasn't too sure obviously but if I showed that on my face, not only would it tip her off that I'm suspicious of her if this was a trap, but if it wasn't then she might end up doing something that would get herself hurt needlessly.

"What are you doing here?" I said while spreading out another scan for any more vulcan close by. "The area is pretty dangerous, and even if the vulcan are pretty weak around here you don't seem to have any way to defend yourself."

"I was looking for my little brother." She said after managing to calm down a bit and dusting off her- why is she wearing a dress? "He ran off and was nowhere in town."

'Is that a red flag? Yes, yes it is.' I thought to myself while trying to avoid rolling my eyes.

"That so? Well I happen to be looking around here for some friends of mine, I could help you look for your brother while I'm at it." And keep an eye on you at the same time

"Thank you!" She said, her voice taking on an obviously faked tone of gratitude, the kind that wouldn't look out of place in an ani- Ok, nevermind that checks out. "With a strong mage like you around, the monsters in the forest won't be a problem anymore."

Do these people not realize how obvious they're being? Like seriously I've counted three instances where I could point out her plan without having done a thing to try and get it out of her. Do they think they're being clever or something? It's a little obvious at this point after all of them talking about "Another one" and "the monsters not being a problem" because of me "being a strong mage".

I keep pointing it out, I know. But still the phrase "common sense is not common" keeps coming to mind. Though I guess thinking logically is a little much to expect from this world, the precedent of the villagers in canon treating Mira and her siblings due to her demon possession like the week-old leftovers at the back of the fridge, despite the fact that magic exists and they know the kind of things it can do. Even with there being no Take-Over users before them here, in canon Elfman and Lisanna were taught their magic, not born with it.

It kinda shows how stupid the people of this world really are, and that's saying something since Natsu is seemingly a genius compared to some of the people here. And people are constantly dogging on him for being stupid.

"I remember my brother saying he wanted to get one of the herbs near the center of the grounds," She said, pointing in the direction I assume she's talking about before walking in that direction. "They can be sold for a lot of money because they can't grow anywhere else."

'HUD keep the general scan of the area going but set any ether signals matching Bruno as priority, make sure that I'm alerted if any attacks that I can't defend against are deployed.' I mentally requested HUD, making sure to keep my guard up. In reality though I was just walking in the direction she was pointing to.

"Is there anything you can tell me about him, how he looks or acts?" I asked in an attempt to look like I'm not stalling for a complete scan of the area. "Anything helps, even if you think it doesn't."

"He likes to dress in dark clothes, like the kind you would expect a dark mage to wear." She said while looking slightly exasperated. "He really likes to look cool, even when it just makes him look ridiculous."

Ok, that last part was genuine. This little brother of hers must actually exist then, either she was telling the truth and is just really weird at telling the truth, or she is changing the narrative and saying something true to make her act look real. Either way this brother of hers must be an eccentric which checks out given the world we're in.

The area was pretty sparse in all honesty, mostly just greenery everywhere. There were some vulcan signals in the distance but they were far enough away that I could just ignore them for the time being. Something is strange about them though, according to HUD's scans they're a bit constrained for lack of a better word.

As if something or someone was using take over on them, but not fully.

While it is possible to use Take Over on multiple targets, there are too many of the vulcan to say that's the case. At least for anyone not at the level that Mira was during the final season of Fairy Tail.

"Why does your brother like to dress like a dark mage?" I asked, trying to look as unaware as possible. "Doesn't he know that doing that would make people scared of him?"

"I'm pretty sure that's exactly why he dresses like that." She said while shrugging, noncommittal. "He doesn't really like talking to people and is still in that teenage angst phase."

As she said that, the various different vulcan signals began to get slightly agitated before converging in the direction we were walking in. They aren't very good at being subtle are they?

"Is that why he wants to make some money? I know how greedy teenagers can get." I said while empathizing slightly due to Cana getting more greedy as time progressed.

"Not really, we just needed some help."

As she said that, a magic circle appeared underneath me. One that HUD gave notice of a moment ago. And one that won't affect me due to the mechanical nature of my eyes.

"And you'll be giving it to us." I heard from a masculine voice, somewhere as the light of the circle brightens seemingly activating as he continues: "We needed another mage's magic power and we will be taking it from you."

As he finished speaking he walked out into the open and I got a clear view of him, he really does dress like a stereotypical dark mage. Black cloak and hood, various chains that don't actually do anything, the works to make him look as edgy as possible. He looks ridiculous.

"And no matter how powerful you are, no matter what magic you use, if you can't see your target then you're helpless against us." He said as he laughed cartoonishly.

"Seriously Davis, you're acting like an idiot." I heard the woman say from behind me, obviously done with his little theatrics. "You do this every time and it's getting old."

"Well excuse me for wanting to have a bit of fun with our assets, Laura."

Ok, they are suitably overconfident. And thankfully HUD's scan of the forest is finally done, he found Bruno and Jane. They're not that far away, but surrounded by vulcan. Though there are a couple of ether signals with them.

"You guys are really bad at this aren't you?" I ask while pointing straight ahead, trying to seem like I really am blinded. "I mean, you don't even know what kind of magic I use and automatically assume that I can't fight blind."

"Wait wha-" I interrupted him by blasting him with an uncharged buster shot from Fafnir's busters. Knocking him away unceremoniously and causing the woman behind me to freeze up in shock.

Turning around I punch at her aiming for her leg in hopes to break it and immobilize her, only for her to jump away with her dress being torn at the bottom, revealing a black material underneath it.

"How are you doing that!?" she shouted, while creating another magic circle, this time one that I've never ran into before, according to a cursory scan it is similar in construct to the blinding cirlce. "You should be completely blind! If blinding you isn't enough then maybe being deaf too will!"

As she said that the circle shone again and this time instead of taking it I dodge out of the way, changing into Model Z as I did to and returning fire at random places in order to make it seem like I really was affected by the blinding spell.

"You little piece of-" I heard from Davis as he got back up. "Vulcan army! To me!"

As he said that most of the vulcan that were surrounding Bruno, Jane and those two unidentified signatures began to rush over our way. I could hear the trees being destroyed or knocked over as they ran.

"You imbecile! What are you doing!?" I heard the now identified Laura shout at Davis. "We need those two protected if he manages to get past us!"

"He won't, he's still blind!" he shouted back while turning to her, while I used the moment they took to shout at each other to charge up a dash. "Didn't you see him shooting at you like that and missing? Are you stupid?"

"He was pretending, you idiot!" Wait, how does she know that?

'If she already knows then may as well finish this as soon as possible.' I thought to myself while using the charge dash to rush to them and slash at the woman from shoulder to navel, with her being too slow to react and getting hit directly and flying back from the force of the slash.

Davis on the other hand was able to see what happened and wildly threw a punch at me that I easily dodged by leaning back and using my off hand to launch some lightning magic to blast him. Knocking him away and, according to HUD, knocking him unconscious this time.

The vulcan signals changed once I did that, the seeming take over dulling a bit and the rush beginning to become disorganized, all of the vulcan actually turning on each other and attacking themselves.

As I blasted Davis away, Laura got back up and tried to prepare a spell, only I shifted the Z-saber into Buster Shot mode and shot at her while she was prepping and knocked her out of the fight.

After using a minor form of Sticky Flames to tie them up, I started dashing through the woods in the direction of Bruno and Jane. The vulcan horde having shrunken due to their infighting and dispersing into the surrounding forest.

As I had passed through, the horde of vulcan could be seen all around either fighting each other in a frenzy or passed out. Most of them seemed to be too focused on each other to notice me, but the ones that did were easy to take care of with a simple buster shot. The vulcan were somehow even dumber than usual, they tend to do some stupid things admittedly but to see some of them even going so far as to smack their own heads against the trees in a rage.

With everything that's going on, I won't be able to get Bruno and Jane out of here safely. I may as well clean up some of the trash before going in. This'll take a while.

Ok, wow that is a lot of reviews from a single person.

I was not expecting that much feedback but it's much appreciated "ArguableReader". Especially since you brought up how I nerfed the megaman powers, which I actually did on purpose for plot reasons. Why I did that I cannot say at this time, still though, way to go spotting that. Not to mention, while I already knew that trivia about reploids in general, I appreciate it and honestly if you guys think that I should know something about either series please say something in a review or PM.

Though you did get Ciel being the last human wrong, if you didn't know Ashe from ZX Advent along with Vent and Aile in ZX even two thirds of the sage trinity are all human albeit with reploid enhancements like the artificial skin heck they aren't even the 'last pure human' since The Master was the last human without reploid enhancements. With Carbons in the Legends era actually being an evolved life form of humanity that sprung from reploid tech evolving to the point where it became indistinguishable from normal human anataomy and; in the words of ReploidREVO "Surgery and getting a tune up at the mechanic's are essentially the same thing."

Pricefree thanks for the review and encouragement, glad I managed to make a good story. Though I will have to say that Rep at this point kinda isn't an SI, I mean parts of my personality are there don't get me wrong, but he's a bit too much of an idealization to say he's me. I can honestly say that all of the good things he's done in the story I in actuality would've never done; like raising a child, or at least raising them without causing lasting mental trauma. I am not parent material. Though this does help out since I am not as self aware as I thought when I first started this so Rep being his own character is a bit of a good thing. ^_^'

IryuKarama thanks for the feedback and suggestion, I was thinking about using Prometheus and Pandora as a reference for the combined fragments but decided that was a bit too on the nose in some instances. They will have some influence on how the new combinations turn out but won't be too prevalent in them.

Sorry for the late upload again…..by six months…uuuuh, I had this idea for a chapter and needed to properly implement it into the story which wound up yet again with another revamp to the story as a whole. That plus being hit with a major slump while planning the story again and a whole slew of other things getting in the way like Typhoon Mawar, needing surgery before that, starting to attend trade school, life just kicking my ass in general really. I don't have a stable schedule anymore so I won't be able to upload very often anymore so please don't be surprised if there is another long wait like this again.

Honestly at this point I may as well just do a reboot given all the mistakes, reworks, the hiatus and possible gaps between uploads in the future. Tell me if you guys think I should.
