"How dare he speak to me that way? It's as if he wishes to be beheaded." Princess Zelda folded her arms across her chest. She had been trying to keep her mind off the situation by getting a manicure, but the fact that both of those imbeciles spoke to her that way infuriated her. "And surely the silent hero wants to open his mouth as well!"
She also proved a point that she was correct in those two despising her. They showed their true feelings about her, she had felt blood rise just by thinking of the situation. She already had enough on her plate, the goddess ignored her pleas and now she was hated by two people that were suppose to protect her.
She huffed in frustration as she glanced at the older woman who had been chuckling quietly.
"What's funny?" The Princess asked with a suspicious gaze at Urbosa. The Gerudo looked at her with that confident smug look she always wore on her face. "You're hiding something from me, aren't you?"
"Why would I hide something from you, little bird?" Urbosa quietly questioned, making Zelda's heart jump hearing the phrase "little bird." It was a phrase her mother would use when she was younger. It would bring back fond memories. "I would do no such thing."
"I find it hard to believe," Zelda challenged not letting her glare up. Urbosa's smirk had dropped to a more serious expression but not an angered one. She turned towards Zelda before slowly walking towards her. Zelda hadn't let up her intentions to know what her surrogate mother was hiding. "I demand to know what's going on."
"Princess-" She heard a sigh come out from the frustrated woman before hearing her lightly breathing. She gave the Princess a stern look before she choose her words. "The thunder helm had been stolen by the Yiga once again. As well as Yiga activity seemingly increased these last few weeks, we've been monitoring them heavily."
The though of the Yiga clan made her squirm a bit. They were the fearsome group opposed to the sheikah and worshipped the Calamity. A tribe of fierce warriors that scared even the mightiest of knights in Hyrule. They're combat prowess was like not other tribe. "Well; surely you know where it's at?"
Urbosa nodded. "Last time I heard, they fed it to the molduga in the Dunes near by. I currently have Sir Link and Everett with a few of my best warriors attempting to retrieve it."
The Princess sighed. "Out of all the amazing warriors here, of course you'd pick those two."
Urbosa sighed. "Little bird, I don't know what's going on with you three, but if we're going to work together to make sure Hyrule isn't decimated into pieces; we must do it together."
"Those two are insufferable! You don't understand, Link barely speaks to me or even looks my direction! And Everett, is asinine! Whenever he does talk, nothing but negativity and brooding comes out. They are perfect, too perfect. Being able to showcase and show off their skills and abilities while I can barely lift a finger without my father thinking I'm a failure!"
Urbosa's slight frown didn't waver, in fact Zelda had though she had frowned more.
"Maybe you three all something in common," the Princess scoffed at that and went to open her mouth, but was immediately silenced by Urbosa who had raised her hand, making it known she wasn't finished. "It seems the three of you are lost, you all have potential. Heaps of it, yet you don't know what to with it."
Zelda had showed slightly. "I have nothing in common with a silent knight that's scared of his own voice and a brute with anger problems."
"Does that include you, the insecure Princess?" Urbosa said. Zelda had snapped her head back towards her motherly figure. Yes; in a sense it was true she was insecure but she wasn't expecting the words to come from Urbosa herself, it made her face drops as a million insecure thoughts clouded her mind. Urbosa's features had soften before she walked closer to the Princess. "Princess what I'm saying is whatever is making you insecure about yourself, isn't on those two boys. You should not doubt yourself, you are progressing. As we all are. You shouldn't be harsh on those boys."
She looked towards the ground with a mixture of hope and doubt at the older woman's words. She had to hide herself from gritting her teeth.
"Tell me Princess, in all the time spent with your protectors have you ever felt you were in danger under their care?" Urbosa challenged.
She was stumped. "No."
Urbosa huffed. "Then you should have nothing to worry Princess, those two have been tasked with keeping you safe. You all struggle with what seems to be the same issue, you all don't know your true potential. You'll be a much stronger team if you all would just get along."
Zelda scoffed again. "It'll snow here in Gerudo before I get along with those two."
The Gerudo chuckled. "I'm willing to make that bet."
Princess Zelda chuckled. She wished she could stay here forever, not deal with her father, her duties, Link and Everett. She wouldn't have to be holed up in the castle all day. She could be here, leaving amongst woman and her motherly figure.
"Well, I suppose we oughta check on the divine beast, you've told me you're doing well leading to control it, yes?" Zelda had asked.
Urbosa chuckled. "That beast is a thing of beauty, I have it under my thumb. So far, I've been able to control it. It also responds well to my lighting."
Just then, a rough know erupted on the door and without any warning one of Urbosa's best warriors poked they're head in. It was Kanira.
"Sorry for the intrusion Lady Urbosa, Princess Zelda; but I have great news! The thunder helm had been recovered!"
"Fighting a molduga is always a great time. You'll find it near Toruma Dunes. Return to the bazaar afterwards, then make you're way to the divine beast at night." Urbosa told him when he and Link were assigned with three Gerudo fighters.
Kanira, Nikifa and Talil were the names of the three Gerudo warriors that had accompanied the brute and hero.
Everett didn't hold much disdain for Urbosa, she was actually one of the champions he could tolerate; when she wasn't throwing a semi truck sized beast on top of him.
The gigantic sand beast had landed almost flat on Everett before it had kicked up enough force to throw him up in the air. He had stayed in the air for a second or two before finally smacking down into the rough, hot sand. The three Gerudo warriors and Link had been blown away by the powerful force the Molduga had unleashed upon them.
It flopped, before it could squirm and dig itself back under the blanket of sand. Everett quickly looked around and saw a large rock, big enough to hold all six of them. Standing up, nearly wobbling in his weakened state, he pointed to the rock. "We need to get onto higher ground! He won't be able to sense us from there!"
Link had nodded before turning to the warriors and nodding his head. The five of them had quickly sprinted their way over to the safe spot. But it wasn't quick enough as the sand beast had caught the sound of their no doubt heavy footsteps.
The beast shot up, the sand scooping the group up and practically throwing them onto the rock. Everett had been thrown the farthest, missing the rock completely and landing back in the sand. He had quickly recovered, breathing heavily. He crawled towards the rest of the group; Link shot out a hand towards the stronger man.
Everett had taken it, quickly climbing towards the rock. He finally crawled onto it, letting himself catch his breath. "Well? Any ideas?"
The Molduga had swum in the sand, its bulging body leaving an imprint on the sand as it moved around quickly. Link had panted, obviously out of breath from having been flung like a bug.
He swallowed a breath. "We got to stop it from going underground, that's where it's most dangerous." Link breathed. Everett nodded, the claymore he held wouldn't do the trick. But suddenly, a million ideas rushed to his mind. He looked towards the Gerudo warrior with two scimitars in each hand. He suddenly got an idea. A very dangerous one indeed.
"In order to keep it from going underground, we need to lure it out of the sands." Everett concluded.
"How do we lure it out of the sands?" Talil asked. Everett had glanced around the area, surely they're had been something they could use. He then got an idea. A very dangerous idea. He had silently prayed to whatever gods or goddesses that were present they wouldn't fight him in this.
"I need you three to distract them, for Link and I kill to kill it. You'll need to jump and make noise on the sand, soon as see you that thing come you're way violently; jump back on the rock. Me and Link will hop on it. I'll have to find away inside of it if we're getting that helm." Everett huffed, glancing toward Link. "Guess this is a job for me and the hero." Link looked over at him, confused. Everett turned his attention to the Gerudo warrior. "Give me your dual swords. Take this claymore; I need them if I'm going to ride that monster's back."
"Okay, but bring-wait what?" Nikifa had a confused look on her face, and it wasn't until she realized he had quickly swapped their weapons and she had a claymore in her hand and Everett was darting towards the sand monster with her scimitars. He had fairly heard her scream; "Don't ruin them!"
He ignored her, dashing with Link towards the taller rock in the stance. Luckily, the molduga had been too far for them to sense the noise and Everett made it quickly by practically jumping on the rock. Everett flung a hand out to Link, who had grabbed it.
He flung the much smaller boy upward, helping him get onto equal footing with him. He had looked over to the three women who were waiting for his signal. He turned towards Link.
"We're the only two people capable of doing this. When that thing jumps out of the sand, we hop on it. Stab it in as many places as you can. We might have to ride this thing, I'll try to go for the head!"
Link nodded. But then raised an eyebrow; "What will we do when it pulls the both of us under the sand?"
Dammit. Everett hadn't thought about that one...guess he had to wing it.
"Don't suffocate..?" Everett asked with a nervous smile. Link's stoic and unimpressed face didn't fade as the stronger man shrugged him off. Everett waved his hand, and the trio had began to jump around, stomp and even going so far as banging his claymore on the dirt.
He seen the sand beast come to a halt, before it had rampaged itself towards the trio. He had waited, and waited. What if they couldn't make the jump? Foolish, he's jumped high than what his much more grounded reality self could. He'd use the dual swords Nikifa had let him borrow to climb the best with them. It had seemed almost like hours before it was almost towards the warriors making ruckus.
It exploded from the sand, flying upwards towards the air. Everett's eye widened, it was bigger than he thought. Almost 2x times bigger than a shark.
"Now Link!" He roared, the hero and brute jumped high. Link had the master sword high above his head ready for it to dig into the molduga. Everett had hopped farther than he imagined, clearing a good twenty yards.
Everett had forcefully let the scimitars dig into the beasts fought skin, he had almost fell off watching his hand slip off of the left hand of the sword, he quickly reclaimed it by grabbing onto it once more.
Everett felt himself fall to the ground, roughly banging his head on the skin of molduga. It had knocked him senseless, as it only It had became limp on the ground, and Everett took the few seconds that he could manage, and ripped the dual sword from the skin of the molduga.
He ran across its body, before leaping high in the with the scimitars held high over his head. He let out a ferocious cry before slamming them down into the head of the molduga.
It had roared, cried even. Link had struggled to hold on, as the master sword didn't really allow him to hang on with two hands. The molduga had squirmed vionelty, before he had turned to dig into the sand.
"Shit! Link hold on-" His words were cut off when they went underground. Millions of sand particles smacked his face, as he deeply tried to hold his breath in to stop himself from breathing sand.
A few seconds went by but felt like hours until he heard the familiar sounds of the muffled group trying to gain the beasts attention. He felt the molduga freeze, then rapidly pick up speed as he presumed it was aggressively approaching the Gerudo trio. He felt hot air hit his lungs as the monster shot back up in the air, he could see the three make their way back to the safety rock after luring the beast out.
Everett hadn't seen Link make his way to his spot, when a flash of blue entered his eyesight. Link, quick as lighting; had bough the sword that seals the darkness into the monsters head, hearing another roar of pain.
It had squirmed much more violently. It had went limp for a few moments, and the two warriors to the time to slice and stab away. Everett had sliced both swords alongside its head, hearing it roar in anger.
The beast had flipped to it's side, throwing both Link and Everett off; their bodies flopping onto the hot sand. Both quickly recovering, they didn't realize the monster digging itself back into sand.
They looked around, he couldn't see the bulge of the molduga's body. He frantically looked around, not moving his feet an inch. He looked towards Link, who had been as still as him.
The light breeze had softly blew sand around them. It would only be a matter of time when it'd appear again.
"Hey!" Kanira yelled from afar. Everett and Link's head shot up and tried to shush her from their position. It didn't work, and all the hero and brute felt was the rumbling of what would be the sand giant sprouting out of the sands.
But where would it-
Everett's thought was immediately answered when it shot out a few feet from them, in an attempt to crush them. They had been pushed back a few feet, stumbling was but staying on their feet as they watched it go limp in the air with a loud groan, before gravity began to pull it back to the ground.
Link had began to run to avoid being crushed by the beast, he turned around to see Everett merely looking at it as he fell back down to the sands. Everett's facial expression tightened, and he squared his feet. The molduga came crashing down with a thud, and pressure from the impact kicked up a bunch of sand that Link had to shield his face from.
It had lied there motionless, and Link had felt his stomach drop. Did it crush him? He had walked slightly towards the limp monster before he heard a loud roar. He seen the molduga slightly move upwards, before it's entire body had been tossed a few feet from where it had landed. Smacking down onto the ground, scooping even more sand dust up.
There stood Everett, he had been covered in sand and had been huffing heavily. He had nodded towards Link, before dashing off towards the molduga.
Link had quickly made his way behind Everett and began to slice and dice at the molduga's face. He watched Everett leap onto the molduga's beak, before he had went into it's mouth. He had stabbed it with the right scimitar straight in the head, earning a wide open mouth roar from the monster.
Everett used his right arm to hold the roof of it's mouth up, and began to stab away at it's tongue. It roared in pain and anger began to try and chomp on the strongest man in Hyrule, but Everett's right arm had all the power he needed to resist the monsters strong jaws which would probably be able to chew threw buildings.
"Link! I'm going to enter from the mouth, see if I can find that precious heirloom or whatever." He had pushed the mouth open with his arm, before Link had seen only a glimpse of Everett entering it's mouth. It's beak snapped violently, and it had tossed Link aside. Before digging itself back underground.
It was deadly quiet now.
"Everett?" The hero had his mouth dropped, he had gotten up trying to collect his thoughts together. Everett was just ate by a molduga. Link looked around before he had looked at the sand itself.
There was no budge in the sea of sand, no molduga shape swimming in the desert in the distance. Like it had ate Everett and completely disappeared.
He heard a few footsteps and looked behind him, the three women were standing behind him, Nifika carrying the Everett's sword.
"Did...did it eat him?" Kanira asked with a hint of sorry on her face, Link had barely shrugged his shoulders. He tried to keep his composure, but it wouldn't be long until they felt the ground start to shake.
About twenty feet in front of them, the molduga shot in the air once more with a more of a painful cry than a roar this time. It had came crashing back down onto the hot sand. The group had made their way to the limp beast before stopping short in front of it. Link had held the master sword pointed towards it in case it made any moves.
It's mouth had opened slightly before it let out an painful roar. Link had seen it's large neck contort and twist in odd ways before he seen two scimitars poke out of it's throat. With great force, they had been violently dragged down diagonally, ripping a gaping hole in it's throat. Blood had poured out of it and it wasn't long before Everett had stepped out of it's now open throat. The molduga had twitched before it had lied limp. Now dead.
He was caked in blood from head to toe, yet the precious heirloom was still shining gold. He held it up to his face level inspecting it, before he had let it drop with hand to his side.
"You got the thunder helm!" Talil exclaimed with a cry of joy. "And you killed the molduga, what a feat!"
"Yes," Everett sighed, he wiped his face with his bloodied forearm, only making it slightly worse. Now he had blood smudges on his face, he grimaced. "Hopefully the showers at the bazaar are gender neutral."
Everett hadn't realized the sun was setting rather quickly, he didn't think the slaying of this gigantic beast took almost all day. He still had ahold of the thunder helm when Nifika stepped up.
"I think you have something of mine." She had bluntly stated. Everett had grunted before handing the two dual scimitars back to her, in exchange for his claymore. "We'll be taking the helm back now. We thank you for your help, on Lady Urbosa's orders you may head back to the bazaar."
He furrowed his brow. He didn't trust they would make it it back to the town without trouble. Urbosa had warned him of this "Yiga Clan" and how fierce they can be, even towards the bestest of knights in Hyrule. It would a pain if he gave this to them, and they were ambushed.
Everett nodded before handing the heirloom over to the warrior, it would be best to just comply. He didn't need anymore issues than he already had, he was pretty sure he was facing execution.
"We'll hurry back to the town, you won't have to worry about us." Nifika had smiled, before she swiftly looked over her shoulder and nodded towards Talil and Kanira. They had made haste, beginning to stride across the desert leaving Link and Everett by themseleves.
Everett looked at the orangish sunset, watching it paint the land in orange. He looked towards Link who had nodded, the two had began to make their way back to the bazaar. Everett had looked at his bloodstained hands, the stain of blood traveling up his arm. He looked Link, who had been cut and bruised up to a bit. Nothing a elixir couldn't heal.
Everett had felt the need to apologize. He shouldn't of riled him up to outbursting. He felt a pang of guilt in his body. "Link." The knight looked toward him with a glance.
"What is it?" Link quietly responded.
"I wanted to apologize for riling you up back at the entrance of Gerudo Town. I shouldn't of done that." He'd seen Link tense at the apology, as if someone had never said sorry to him.
"I-don't worry about." Link answered with a slight nod of his head. They had walked quite a distance making sure not to drop their guard down, it wasn't long until Everett saw the bazaar in the distance.
He smelt himself and he had almost vomited, molduga blood did NOT smell nice. He had gagged slightly, before keeping his composure. They had finally made their way to the bazaar and Everett immediately had headed to the front counter.
He had quickly grabbed his bag he had left before he headed to slay the molduga, he had walked up to the front counter. The pretty lady at the desk at looked at him with a hint of disgust and bewilderment.
"You wouldn't happen to have showers, would you?"
"In the left corner..." She had awkwardly answered, Everett grunted before making his way to the secluded shower. He had quickly discarded his blood stained clothes before he had hopped into the small shower.
The warm water hit his body and it wasn't long until he was lost in deep thought.
Hopefully whatever Urbosa wanted those two for at the divine beast was a mystery, both him and Link. Princess Zelda would surely be there too. He didn't want it ending in another screaming match
He hoped for the best.
The night sky had finally reached Hyrule, shrouding the desert in darkness. Only lights in sight were the bazaar and Gerudo Town. Lady Urbosa made sure to take in the scenery. It wouldn't be long until she had to return back to being Chief, for a moment she had thought she was just a woman. A woman looking at the night sky filled with stars and constellations.
The Princess fast asleep against her chest, most likely exhausted from checking the entire divine beast. She could feel the soft breathing from the Princess vibrate alongside her body, and for a moment she just felt like a mother holding her tired daughter.
Urbosa couldn't not see Zelda's mother every time she looked in her face. She had remembered the dying words she had casted on Urbosa before her untimely demise.
It won't be easy helping her unlock her powers without me, so I ask of you Urbosa; do not let her think she's a failure...not for one second.
Urbosa gulped with a shaky breath, she didn't know whenever she had kept true to her promise or had broken it. No doubt that the Princess had felt like a failure, and it hurt that Urbosa couldn't find a way to change her mind. She had seen the looks that Zelda had given to Link and Everett, whenever if it was pure hatred or sorrow and grief.
Seeing the legendary hero, with the sword that seals the darkness and a mysterious prolific warrior that can seemingly lift all of Hyrule if needed and on par in combat with the hero; must've doubled her self doubt and insecurities about her own abilities.
She had heard soft footsteps that overlapped each other, and she didn't really need to turn around to know it was the Princess's protectors. The two had walked side to side and rather quickly, but softened their footsteps as they saw the sleeping limp Princess.
"Ah, well...you two got here certainly fast." She had said in a low tone to avoid waking the Princess, she was betting that her waking up and spotting Link and Everett probably would've upset her. "I should've expected as much, from the Princess's own appointed guards. She was out on a survey all day today. Still as the sands now..."
A pregnant silence had ceased the conversation.
"So...? Spill it you two, have the three of you been getting along all right?" Urbosa asked, making Everett chuckle with a scoff and Link shift awkwardly.
"What do you think?" Everett answered sharply.
Urbosa chuckled softly. "It's Ok...I know. You clearly speak for it, and your silence speaks volume." She fixed her sights onto Link. "She gets frustrated every time she looks up and sees you carrying that sword on your back. It makes her feel like a failure when it comes to her own destiny. Don't worry, it's not like any of you care a blame on any of this; it's unfortunate. She's pit in more than enough time. Ever since she was a young girl, she's gone through rigorous daily routines to show her dedication. She once passed out in the freezing waters trying to access this sealing power."
Another silence had hit the air between the three.
"And she has nothing to show for it..." Urbosa had let the words die off her tongue. She looked back down at her. "That's the motivation driving her research. I'd be doing the same thing."
Everett had let his thoughts cloud his mind, maybe he had been a little too harsh back at the entrance of the town? He didn't know when we he was right or wrong in the situation, he knew they were all struggling. He just wished he didn't have to keep getting the short end of the stick.
"She really is quite special..." Urbosa looked over her shoulder once again. "You two be sure to protect her with your life. It's quite the honor." She ended with a smile. Everett's hardened look didn't falter but he had broken off contact to view the night sky that covered the land.
"The molduga?" Urbosa quickly asked, and Everett was there to answer.
"Dead. Probably still lying in the sands where I killed it." He said with a hint of shakiness of his voice. He still wasn't used to saying that he killed things. Especially living things, but they weren't exactly living things. They were mindless monsters.
Urbosa said nothing as she looked on into the night.
"The night brings a chill. It's probably time we take her in." Urbosa had went to move but quickly froze mid motion. "Or..."
She had suddenly snapped her fingers, and the entire desert shook as a lighting bolt had struck down on the land creating a large bang! The Princess had yelped wide awake now from the sound.
"Urbosa! What was that!? Did you feel that?" She had quickly looked around her eyes practically glossing over the two guards and back around before she had slowly turned towards the two with a hint of confusion and slight annoyance on her face. "Wait-what? What are you two doing here?"
Everett had flinched before he had opened his mouth so say something back before Urbosa had thrown her head back and laughed.
The Princess had looked around confused form why Urbosa had been cackling so hard. "What? What's so funny?"
Everett had huffed tiredly before he turned around and began to walk away from the three of them. He was tired, and if anyone deserved rest; it'd oughta be him. He was eventually caught up by them, and it was him and Link in the front of Urbosa and Zelda watching out for any danger. Urbosa being on her guard as well.
The four had made it back to the town before the Princess barely bid them farewell. Urbosa had nodded towards the two, before she entered the town herself. Link and Everett had glanced towards each other before they shrugged.
The two had wordlessly walked all the way back to the bazaar, they had walked into the inn before taking their beds that were on the side of the inn from each other. The furthest from each others.
Everett had unsheathed his claymore before letting it rest towards the wall, he had plopped himself on the bed letting his finger intertwine on his stomach.
He sighed tiredly. And it wasn't long before he felt himself drifting off to sleep.
The Princess had been up bright and early, she had just about one more day here before duty called. It had instantly soured her mood, and she quickly shook the thoughts out of her head. She had switched from her sleepwear to her adventure clothes.
It was still early in the morning, and people hadn't risen yet from their sleep and homes. She had stepped out of her luxurious room that had been granted for her, she felt like today was going to be a beautiful day. She had craved for a walk.
She had walked past few Gerudo woman, earning nodded and 'good morning your highness' from them. She had hurried past a few more women before she had exited from the entrance of the town. She didn't realize the guards that were standing guard.
"Princess! Shouldn't you have your knight with you?" She had mentally held herself back from expression anger. Why couldn't she do one thing without those two?
"Don't worry! I'll take her to where she needs to be!" A stranger had said behind her, she had looked at him. He had short black hair, glasses and a nerd like look to him. He had been carrying a sword, so he must've known some swordplay.
"It's alright, this gentleman will escort me." Anything but those two...
The Gerudo warriors looked with some worry before they eventually bowed their heads and continued their post.
Zelda and the stranger had began to walk, but something felt...off. Like she was in danger, but she couldn't quite tell.
"So! What brings you out here, on this fine day in the desert?" The man cheerfully asked.
"Uhhh...work. Yes, I am currently working." Zelda had answered, hoping this man wouldn't talk her ear off.
"Work, eh? Well, what kind of work do you do?" He asked again making her huff. "Is it the...royalty kind of work?"
His voice had eerily dropped, and she had looked over at him. He had a smile on his face, before it turned into an evil sneer. She heard the sudden sharp and startling noise of laughter that sent chills down her spine.
The man had quickly glowed an orangish-red before he had transformed fully into a Yiga clan member.
She been set up for a trap and they lured her right into it.
Yoooo Back with another chapter. Seen many of the support and criticism from readers which I welcome, always good to hear feedback.
