I do not own the characters, the cities, the ships, the show...I don't own anything. All characters belong to Warner Bros and DC

Shayera Hol, the renowned Hawkgirl, well exhawkgirl as she no longer believed she deserved the title after betraying both Earth and her people, sat, deep in thought, on one of the sofas in Wayne Manor. Her mind was racing between the guilt she felt and the pressing matter of what the other six founding members of the Justice League were deciding regarding her fate. She was so deep in thought that she didn't hear the clicking of the butler's shoes approaching her. Laying a hand on her shoulder, Alfred Pennyworth stated,

"They've sent for you, miss."

Slightly startled, but quickly recuperating after seeing Alfred's warm and supportive face, Shayera quickly thanked the butler and headed into the room where the league had been making the call of wether or not she should remain in the league. Once she reached the door she took a deep breath as she came to her conclusion and gently turned the handle and pushed the door open, revealing her judge and jury. Shayera quickly glanced over each of their faces. Flash tried to look comforting and caring, J'onn looked stoic and steely, Superman looked unbiased and ready to advocate for justice, just like a Boy Scout. Wonder Woman was murdering Shayera in a thousand different ways in her mind, John Stewart was avoiding her eyes as all he was harboring was betrayal and pain. Finally, Hol looked on Batman, whose expression and body language she could not read. He looked blank. Neither happy nor angry, silly or serious, Batman blankly stared in her direction; however she didn't even know if he was even looking at her. She was once again snapped out of her thoughts, this time not from a Butler but from the symbol of hope: Superman.

"Hawkgirl-" Superman began, but Shayera quickly cut him off.

"Before you start, I have something to say. I came to this planet as a patriot. I had a mission and I carried it out. What I couldn't know was that I would come to care for the Earth and her people, that I'd come to care for all of you. I've spent the last five years torn between my feelings and my duty and I would ask you to do the same; therefore, I am resigning from the Justice League, effective immediately."

Taking one last look at the faces of her friends she saw that all of them had softened, heck even Wonder Woman looked a little surprised at Shayera leaving the League. However one face remained unchanged. Batman continued to look aimlessly right through her. Ignoring this, Shayera turned her heel and made for the door through which she came in, but was stopped in her tracks by a pair of arms wrapping around her. It took her a second to realize Flash was hugging her but once she did notice she quickly embraced him as well before releasing him and exiting both the room and the extravagant mansion.

Watching the sunset with her arms across her chest, wind blowing her hair, Shayera was once again snuck up on. From behind her John Stewart softly said.

"You never asked how we voted."

"It doesn't matter."

After a short moment of silence, John spoke again.

"So...where are you gonna go?"

"I don't know, someplace where the fate of the world isn't in my hands, someplace where there are no more secrets and no more lies."

"Was it all a lie?"

Finally turning around, Shayera replied, "I love you John, I never lied about that."

Once again turning on her heel Shayera stretched her wings out and flew away, not noticing the Green Lantern attempting to stop her and neither noticing him wistfully watch her fly away while saying "I love you too." Shayera kept flying towards the sunset and towards the city.

AN:

Hello, this is the end of this chapter. I know this is basically just the scene of when Hawkgirl leaves the Justice League, but do not worry, the fan fiction will begin in the next chapter (hence why this one is called prologue). See you in the next
