Tony
"Hey." Tony nudged his young soulmate gently, loathe to wake him after how tired he'd been the night before.
"Wha's happen'n?" Peter said blearily, one eye opening long enough to see Tony sitting on the bed next to him. The teenager rolled towards him, burying his face in his side and giving every indication of going back to sleep.
"Pete. Michelle will be here soon, and you need breakfast, kiddo. Unless you just want to hang out here instead of going back to Universal."
"What?" Peter sat up abruptly, looking panicked.
"Easy, buddy. Just time to wake up," Tony said, pressing a quick kiss to the top of his head as he stood up. "You wanna grab a quick shower? You've got about ten to fifteen minutes."
Peter shook his head as if to try to clear it, but stumbled to his feet and towards the bathroom. Tony wished he had slept a little longer himself, but he'd had time for his own shower, and for touching base with Pepper. He hasn't confirmed it with Peter yet, but she and the rest of the group should be there that evening, and they'd meet up with them near Walt Disney World when they were finished at Universal for the day.
Peter had been excited to see Michelle again, and she had surprised Tony by being decked out in a colorful Harry Potter-themed t-shirt and a big smile. Though she didn't approve of giant theme parks in general, or most of the "nerdy fandom" stuff Peter and Ned were into, somehow Harry Potter was something she seemed interested in, and she seemed happy to get to spend the day doing something fun with Peter. Their awkward hesitation around each other was still alive and well, but by the time they had walked through the turnstiles, they seem to have settled into something a little more comfortable. Tony didn't miss the way either of them automatically reached for each other's hands, or for casual touches throughout the morning, only to pull back sheepishly into themselves. Poor kids. He was glad they were still open to spending time together, and hoped that over time they'd be able to relax back into a good friendship again. He felt like they still needed each other for that.
"Michelle, you have no idea how glad I am that you're here," Tony said as he eyed the giant green "Incredible Hulk" roller coaster in Islands of Adventure, where they'd started their day. He brought his phone up and snapped a selfie with its sign to send to Bruce, not able to resist teasing his friend a little.
Wish you were here! ?
Bruce didn't disappoint, and he answered back within a few minutes with an eyeroll emoji.
"You're really not going to come with us?" Peter asked sadly, his face pleading.
"Parker, don't traumatize your soulmate," Michelle said firmly. "Put away the puppy-dog eyes, and let the senior citizen rest."
"Hey!" Tony protested, but he was grinning. Well, whatever kept him from getting strapped into that thing. He used to love roller coasters, but after a full day of theme-parking the day before, he wasn't eager to board that particular ride. Actually, he thought, now would be a good time to remember his motion sickness pills. Sheesh, what was he, 65?
"Tony, why is this so different from flying in the suit?" Peter asked. "You don't get sick doing that, do you?"
"No. Maybe it has something to do with being in control? Maybe I'm just getting old?" This made the two teenagers smirk at him. "I could do this if I wanted to, but if we're going to be riding stuff all day, this isn't a good way to start it…"
"Fine," Peter pouted slightly. MJ tugged on his arm, and they headed towards the line. They were back five minutes later though, because they found out they couldn't carry anything on the ride, even their cell phones. So suddenly Tony was the holder-of-things. Cool.
The rest of the morning was actually really fun. After getting fully windblown on the Incredible Hulk coaster, they enjoyed all the comic-book decor of the Superhero Island as they walked towards what Michelle said was one of her favorite rides. From what Tony could tell, someone had taken the idea of King Kong and built a whole creepy island motif or story around it. The "tour bus" and its combination of real effects and simulated ones was quite impressive, and he mostly enjoyed it.
As they left that area, after Peter and Michelle took lots of pictures, including one with a life-size plastic cut-out of Spider-man (which they giggled through), they came across a river-raft type ride.
"C'mon, Tony, please?" asked Peter excitedly.
"Do I look like a marine mammal?" Tony asked with disdain. "Look at the people coming off. They're soaked, and it's December! Zero chance, Parker."
Peter rolled his eyes, but stopped fighting it, and they continued walking as the theming around them changed to jungle vibe, and dinosaurs started appearing in the plants on either side. This, Tony was actually interested in. Jurassic Park was probably one of his favorite movies. He'd been intrigued both by the groundbreaking (when it came out) special effects and by dinosaurs in general. It was leftover from an obsession (which his dad squashed) at about five. He found himself leading the way into some kind of discovery center, where he and Peter enjoyed the exhibits thoroughly.
Finally, Peter noticed Michelle leaning on a rail, both forearms stacked on top of it, with her chin resting on her arms. She looked amused, but also bored.
"Oh, sorry!" Peter said. "We got really into it, didn't we?"
Michelle smiled. "It's fine. You guys ready to do the ride though?"
"There's a ride?" Tony asked, interested.
"Yeah, have you not been on it before?" Peter asked eagerly. "It's supposed to have some really amazing animatronic dinosaurs that you see while you're going down a river."
"Have you been on it, Michelle?"
"Oh yeah. It's pretty exhilarating," she said calmly.
"Well, let's do it, then."
"Really? You're gonna ride it with us?"
"Lead the way, kid."
Peter
Peter couldn't believe Tony had agreed to ride Jurassic Park with them, but he was excited. Was this one of the rides they took a picture on? He'd love to have that, if they did. Tony knew it was a river ride, didn't he?
Tony was distracted in line, talking to one of the company's accountants, of all things. It was year-end, which wasn't as big of a deal as fiscal-year-end in June, Peter knew, but there was some kind of wrinkle in the R&D budget that they seemed to need Tony in particular to help iron out. As it was, they were almost to the loading area when Tony finally hung up.
"Henry, I'm sorry, but I'm about to get on a ride with the kids. We'll have to chat later. Yeah. I know. Have you talked to Erin? Okay, she knows more than me, try that. Bye!"
Tony turned back to them, rolling his eyes. "Sorry kids, I'm not sure where the disconnect is there. Um. Michelle? Why are you wearing a poncho?"
MJ turned calmly to the suspicious billionaire and raised an eyebrow. "Maybe because I don't feel like getting wet in December?"
"Getting wet?" Tony asked nervously. "Are we talking about 'splashed' here, or are they gonna spray us, or—?" He didn't get to finish, because the ride attendant was ushering them into the waiting boat. Into the front row, of course. Where the seat was already wet.
"Wait, you didn't know this was a water ride, Tony?" Peter asked, half worried and half trying-not-to-laugh-in-his-soulmate's-face. There had been signs everywhere throughout the line, and there was a video, and…
"Well yeah, I mean there's a boat, so I knew there was water, but I'm lookin' around now, and Michelle is not the only person wearing a poncho. Where is my poncho, kid?"
"I… didn't think to pack any? I'm sure we'll dry off. And it might not be that wet. It's kind of a big drop, but I read they can turn the 'splash factor' down on these in the winter," Peter said hopefully, taking stock of what exactly might get soaked if he was wrong. His Starkphone and any other tech Tony had given him was completely waterproof, of course. If his pants got soaked they might have to go back to the room, but it wasn't that far. Hopefully his sweatshirt would protect his shirt? Was the splash more likely to hit the front hardest, or the sides, or the—he really needed data to run any of the math on that, and—
"Look!" Michelle said, pointing, as they finished ratcheting up the big hill and settled down into the "river."
The Jurassic Park theme played excitedly as they saw the first animatronic dinosaurs, and Peter glanced sideways at Tony, who was, thankfully, grinning in delight. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad, Peter thought, letting himself lean helpfully against Tony's arm. Tony glanced at him and smiled ruefully, putting his hand down to give Peter's knee a quick pat before he returned his attention to the scenes they were moving through.
"Peter Benjamin Parker, you are in so much trouble!" Tony sputtered several minutes later, water still actively dripping down his face. He was (thankfully) laughing as they climbed out of the big yellow ride vehicle.
"I was trying to run the math on which part of the boat would probably get the most splash," Peter said sheepishly, "but I think that question has been answered."
"Ya think?" Tony asked wryly. "Now what are we supposed to do?"
"Um, obviously we're supposed to go on that Popeye river-raft ride thing," Peter said, hoping Tony might go for it. It's not like they weren't already wet.
"I second that," MJ said with an evil grin on her face.
"Guys, seriously?" Tony said, not sounding amused at all.
"Pleeeeeease, Tony?" Peter pleaded.
Tony held out for a few more seconds, but finally sighed, defeated by his desire to bring his soulmate happiness whenever possible. "Fine. This is unfair, by the way. This will come back to bite you!"
Peter stepped into Tony's space with the confidence of someone who knows they're wanted and welcome, and Tony pulled him immediately into a damp hug. They hadn't been close much today, and it scratched an itch Peter hadn't realized was there, plus had the added benefit of warming him up a little as Tony made contact with his soul mark.
"Aw, you guys are so cute," MJ said, sounding as if she might actually mean it. "C'mon, let's do this while I still have my poncho on."
There was almost no line for "Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges," at all, which Peter should have read as ominous.
"MJ, does this one get you wetter than Jurassic Park?" Peter asked nervously.
MJ just smiled ambiguously.
Because, of course, it did. When they climbed out of the circular raft, they were completely soaked.
"C'mon, my little drowned rats; there's a fancy whole-body dryer thing over here," MJ said. She had peeled her poncho off—even her face was dry, since she had pulled her poncho hood down over it—and was shaking the water droplets out of it. "They're a little pricey, but I figure you can handle it," she finished, smirking back at Tony.
The dryers were fantastic, and Peter and Tony did three full cycles, with MJ jumping in at the end of one to dehydrate her damp areas. But Peter's sweatshirt and Tony's jacket were still a loss for the day.
"They should have actual dryers," Tony complained, holding his still very-damp jacket at arms-length. "I'm going to have to send these back to the room at this rate."
"And we'll probably have to buy something here, so we don't get cold tonight," Peter said cheerfully. "What a shame."
MJ glared at him, though there was a touch of amusement there. "You're already completely corrupted by this guy, aren't you?"
"I am not!"
"You should have heard him complain about the sheet quality at our AirBnb," Tony said smugly, obviously not sorry at all.
"You're dead to me, Parker," MJ said, crossing her arms as she leaned against a post. But then her eyes widened as Tony gestured at what looked to be a random tourist couple. They approached casually, and he handed them the soaking sweatshirt and jacket with a quiet "thanks." MJ just stared as they turned and walked different directions. The woman headed towards the exit with the wet outerwear, and the man blended back into the crowd, seeming to try to decide which snack he wanted at a nearby food stand.
"Have they been here the whole time?"
"Yeah," Peter said sheepishly. "Security, you know? I forget they're here, actually."
"Your new life, I swear," MJ said, shaking her head, mostly with amusement, but also with a touch of surprise. She turned and started to walk away again, this time towards signs advertising Harry Potter-esque excitement, knowing Peter and Tony would follow. " I have a better idea for jackets," she said over her shoulder.
MJ's "better idea" led them to Madam Malkin's Robes For All Occasions and found them staring at four different colors of Hogwarts robes.
I can't believe you don't already have one of these, dork," MJ said, bumping her shoulder into Peter's. His instinct was to turn and kiss her temple, and he had to awkwardly sway back into his own space instead. It had definitely gotten less intense in the last two weeks, especially as his bond with Tony solidified, but he still missed that part of their relationship a lot.
"I've thought about it a few times, but I've been trying to be a grown up," he teased. "Aaaand they're kinda pricey. Or a lot pricey."
"Which is why I got mine online last year," she reminded him. "But luckily for you, you're here with someone who would just love to make sure you stay warm, and spoil you a little bit," she said, glancing back at Tony, who was listening to their conversation.
Peter glanced back as well, just in time to see Tony quirk an eyebrow at MJ, a ghost of a smile on his face.
"Which color, Pete?" he asked simply.
Peter blushed slightly, but looked back at the robes eagerly. Ned would flip . These were so nice!
"What do you mean 'which color?' Peter is definitely a Hufflepuff. What color are you getting, Stark?"
"Me?" Tony sounded so confused at the idea.
"Uh, yeah. So I can take pictures of you guys together all around Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. May and Ms. Potts will love them," she said, as if the decision was already made.
After a long debate, with Tony saying he was probably Slytherin or Ravenclaw, and Peter insisting he'd always thought of his mentor as Hufflepuff deep down, Tony and Peter finally stepped out of the shop in matching black-and-yellow robes. After spending another 20 minutes picking out wands, MJ pronounced them ready for a photo shoot, and made them pose for at least 50 pictures.
Tony
They spent the rest of the afternoon sampling treats and checking out rides (many they hadn't gone on the day before, but also re-riding a few favorites) and Tony enjoyed watching Peter have a fantastic day. The kid had originally protested all the pictures, but Tony had seen the grin that accompanied the light flush of embarrassment, and had gone all in so he could watch that smile grow. Michelle was more fun than he'd expected her to be at an amusement park, and, since she'd been there fairly often with her family, she had some tips and tricks to help them have even more fun.
Tony was really glad they'd gotten the front-of-the-line passes, because the crowds were still pretty insane. As it was, the lines they waited in weren't too bad. He swore their longest line was to get some butterbeer, but he tried not to complain. Even when Peter asked him to ride all the "Dr. Seuss" attractions.
As the sun faded from view, they all appreciated the lit-up version of both sides of "Harry Potter world," and rode "Escape from Gringotts" one more time with MJ. By seven, though, Peter was really dragging, and even stumbled a bit as they walked towards the exit. They'd done everything they wanted, and Tony had ordered MJ's ride home 15 minutes before.
"Missing that nap, today, kiddo?" Tony gently teased, steadying the teen with a hand at the back of his neck.
Peter just rolled his eyes and sighed. Tony and MJ exchanged a look behind his head. He was really worn out if he didn't offer any more protest than that.
Peter and MJ said their goodbyes in front of the hotel while Tony texted briefly with Pepper.
"Thanks for coming, Em," Peter said as he wrapped her in a hug. She was smiling as she stepped into the car, and Peter was, too. At least until she was out of sight. Then his whole body slumped a little as he turned to Tony.
"Can we please go to bed, now?" he said, not even embarrassed any more.
"Close, but no dice, Underoos. We're switching hotels tonight, to an Airbnb just outside of Disney World."
Peter gaped incredulously at him. "I have to drive to Disney World right now? In my state?" Not dramatic at all.
"Pepper, May, Rhodey, and Happy are all there. Jake and Breanne will drive us, so you can nap on my shoulder, Sleepy Dwarf."
Peter managed a glare at that one, but then started looking around for a car. "Um… what about our stuff in the room?"
"All packed up and in the car already. It'll be here in—" He glanced at his watch, where FRIDAY helpfully displayed the data. "—four minutes. Come sit on this nice comfy bench with me, and they'll be here soon."
Tony's phone was buzzing in his pocket. He carefully fished it out, trying not to wake the boy in slumped into his side. It was May, of course.
Are you guys coming yet?
So demanding, May. I'll have your nephew back to you in twenty minutes.
Unless we have to drive around the block 40 times because he's still napping in my arms, that is. Kid wore himself out today.
What did you do to him? ?
Oh you know, threw him on roller coasters, stuffed him with theme park food, forced him to take pictures in his new Harry Potter robes. The works.
Tony paused in his text conversation to lean his cheek against the soft curls under his chin. Hopefully the 30-minute nap would refresh Peter, and he'd be up for a little socializing before actually going to bed. His phone buzzed again.
Pictures? Please!
I need to see those!
Tony smiled and dutifully picked out some of the cuter pictures to send ahead of them. Peter wasn't going to be impressed, but sometimes there were more important people to please. Like scary aunts.
Peter sighed against his collarbone, and he couldn't help the soft smile it prompted. It had been a blast watching his kid have so much fun the last two days, even if Tony was worn out as well.
It had been wonderful spending several days just the two of them, but Tony was eager to see Pepper again, and the rest of his friends, as well. If Disney on New Year's Eve was how they were going to accomplish actually taking a little vacation together, then so be it, he thought with an amused sigh.
