Hello and welcome to my first experimental fanfic of Mieruko-Chan, in which a new inspiration popped into my head in an unexpected way, which began when I came across the series by accident when I happened to scroll my Facebook account and saw the series being advertised…

It turns out that it started as a manga, but instead of checking out the manga I waited for the first episode of the anime to air in order to see if it would pique my interest and curiosity, and after watching the first two episodes it attracted my attention and there I decided to check out the manga.

It didn't take me long to come up with a fanfic version but hit a roadblock on what story to make, but while playing my MP3 player two songs caught my attention and little by little everything came into place.

As the fanfic title shows, I based it on two things, which are:

1) Yu Yu Hakusho.

One of the iconic anime/manga series besides the Dragon Ball franchise. When it aired in my country the Philippines way back in 1996, it was retitled as Ghost Fighters, due to the theme where the main characters are fighting evil spirits and the like. The local media companies felt that Poltergeist Report doesn't click with potential anime fans and came up with the localized title which ultimately attracted viewers who are watching anime on primetime (evening).

2) Kamen Rider Ghost.

This tokusatsu show (aired during 2015-2016) is quite similar to Yu Yu Hakusho, as it revolves around a main character who died physically and is partially resurrected with some supernatural abilities. The difference is that he needed to find Eyecons based on 15 historical figures (Japanese and foreign), and uses the Eyecons to assume an armor and a hooded jacket that serve as GHOSTS.

These two shows somewhat compliment the themes seen in Mieruko-Chan, and this is probably the first fanfiction which the main character, Miko Yotsuya, would embark on an adventure despite her timid and reluctant personality.

I decided to give this a try and see if this would attract readers and fans.

Well then, read on and enjoy!

Ch. 1: Daimakaimura

The scene shifts at the high school where Miko Yotsuya studies, and it became quite a chore for her to keep her wits throughout the day due to her secret ability to see ghosts, as they seemingly tried to make her acknowledge their presence, which she responded by making it appear that she did not notice them.

Because she had to put up with her daily life in dealing with the supernatural shenanigans, her classmate and best friend, Hana Yurikawa is clueless about Miko's seemingly odd behavior, due to the fact that Hana doesn't have the ability to see ghosts, and is unaware of the fact that she herself is attracting some spirits towards her due to her aura.

Hana had to ask if Miko is okay, which the latter had to come up with some alibi to keep Hana in the dark as well as to throw off the spirits from finding out that she can see them and thus protect Hana.

"Are you sure you're okay, Miko?"

"Yeah. I'm okay."

"I don't know…you're acting really strange…"

"I'm fine…really!"

"You sure…?"

"I'm sure!"

"Miko…"

"Honestly, Hana!"

By then a teacher came and told the two girls that classes are about to start, and both Miko and Hana went to their seats as the teacher told the class that they are going to tackle about historical figures, and as the minutes passed, Miko and Hana, along with their classmates, listened as the teacher feature the historical figures based on the topics mentioned, which includes:

- Thomas Edison

- Isaac Newton

- Beethoven

- Robin Hood

- Miyamoto Musashi

During the lecture, a spirit with an inhuman appearance showed up and attempted to make Miko notice him so as she would acknowledge that the spirit exist, but Miko uses her will power to ignore the ghost, and she mentally wished that classes would go on a break so she would get away from the spirit.

Hana is unaware of her friend's situation and innocently asked if she is enjoying the lecture, which she just nodded and acknowledged her friend's queries while ignoring the spirit that is trying to pester her.

"Are you getting the hang of it?"

"Yes."

"These lessons about historical persons are quite interesting, don't you think…?"

"Yes."

"Maybe we might encounter a descendant of one of those people. It's possible, right?"

"Yes."

"Miko?"

"Yes."

Thankfully, the subject ended and the class went on a break and there Miko invited Hana to head to the cafeteria to buy some snacks, while in reality she wanted to get away from the spirit that is trying to pester her for the past 45 minutes.

Hana cheerfully accepted and tells her that they are going to buy some BUTT BUNS, which Miko nodded as she drags Hana out of the classroom in such a hurry.

"Whoa! So you really want those butt buns?"

"Yes."

"They're really delicious, don't you think…?"

"Yes."

"Want me to treat you one?"

"Yes."

"Miko?"

"Yes."

The next several hours showed that Miko had to endure more harassing spirits as they attempt to make her notice them, but she used her willpower to ignore them while pretending that she did not see them, and by the time classes ended, it was dismissal time.

There Hana stretches her arms and said that she is heading home and stuff herself with pancakes, and asked Miko if she wants to stop by her house, and there Miko said that she would pass for today, saying that she is going to head home immediately.

"Huh? You're going home already?"

"Yes."

"You sure you don't want to hang out at my house? You really want to go home?"

"Yes."

"Okay…how about next time?"

"Yes."

"Miko?"

"Yes."

After that, Miko and Hana left the classroom as dismissal time arrived, and once they left school, Hana went ahead while Miko had to take an alternate route in order to avoid encountering a spirit.

In the minutes that passed, Miko is walking within the city limits until she saw what appeared to be a malevolent spirit staring at her, and Miko does the usual by pretending that she didn't see it, hoping that the spirit would leave her alone.

However, the spirit began to dash towards her and yet Miko opted to act like she saw nothing, yet deep inside she is getting scared as she felt that the spirit is about to get her.

However, a whip that resembled a plant vine showed up and whips the attacking spirit and this caused it to back away, and there a male high school student showed up, sporting a shoulder-length red hair and is staring at the spirit before he proceed in whipping the spirit to chase it away.

"Rose Whip!"

The high school student whipped the spirit and it began to ran off, and the whip coiled before it became a rose, and there the teen boy approached Miko and asked her if she is okay, but she feigned innocence and asked if he wanted something.

The teen boy can tell that she is lying yet he seemed to understand why and opted not to question her any further and lets her go, seeing that this might be for the best.

As Miko left, another teen boy appeared, who is quite shorter than the red-haired boy, and there the two boys are revealed to be Kurama and Hiei, who are working as spirit detectives, and there Hiei told Kurama that Miko has a strong spiritual ability yet she chose to ignore what is happening around her.

"That girl…she can clearly see yokai…but she is ignoring them on purpose."

"Yes, and it's understandable why."

"But she cannot keep this facade forever. If we hadn't show up she would have been killed."

"It can't be helped."

"Humans can be annoying."

"Not all of them"

"When will that girl accept the fact that she can see spirits?"

"When the time comes."

Kurama nodded and said that perhaps Miko is apparently unwilling to accept the fact that she has this ability and tries to live normally as much as possible, yet he noted that she cannot keep ignoring the spirits for long, and stated that if she is being attacked again and forced to acknowledge everything, then he will try assisting her

Hiei scoffed and said that Miko has been doing this for some time and believed that she will remain stubborn for the rest of her life, though Kurama thinks that Miko would eventually come to terms about the ability she posses.

"One day she will accept the facts."

"I doubt it."

"Come on now, Hiei..."

"I'm betting that one day she's going to get herself killed…"

"Lets have a little faith in her…"

"Hmph."

"…"

Much later, Miko arrived at her house, where her younger brother, Kyosuke greeted her, and there he asked her how her day is, which she just said that it is fine as usual, yet he can tell that something happened yet she is not showing it and not telling.

Kyosuke asked if someone is bullying her at school, and not wanting to drag her younger brother into her problems, she assured to him that she has no enemies at school whatsoever, though Kyosuke remained suspicious.

"Are you sure there are no bullies at your school?"

"Yes."

"Really, nee-chan?"

"Yes."

"So you're okay now?"

"Yes."

"Seriously, nee-chan?"

"Yes."

Mrs. Yotsuya then came and told her two children that dinner is about to be served and there she told Miko to take a bath before heading for the dining table and told Kyosuke to prepare the plates.

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

"Yes, mom."

A few minutes later, Miko took a bath and after that she dresses up and joined her mother and younger brother and there they began to have a peaceful dinner, and Miko hoped that neither her mom or Kyosuke would not ask her something that might cause her problems, as she already had a rough day trying to ignore the spirits that were trying to get her attention.

A few days later, Miko went out and decided to take breather due to developing a bit of stress as a few spirits showed up at her home, and she had to endure the situation in order not to arouse suspicions from her mom and Kyosuke.

She mentally sighed as she wished that Hana were here as she would help ease her distress, and is thinking of giving her a call and ask if she wants to hang out today. She picked up her smartphone and called Hana, asking if she is available today, and to Miko's dismay, Hana said that she is FULLY BOOKED today, hence she couldn't get out of the house.

"So you're busy for the day, Hana?"

"Yes."

"I see…"

"So sorry, Miko."

"Its okay."

"Maybe next time we can hang out."

"Okay."

"Thanks."

Sighing, Miko thanked her for the reply before turning off her smartphone, and now she wondered what to do next, as she did not notice that she is walking near the creek where a small river is just beside her as she walked by.

However, another spirit showed up and attempted to intimidate Miko, but she uses her usual way by ignoring it while pretending not to notice it, and as she walked further away, she mentally felt relieved and hoped that it doesn't follow her.

However, something unexpected happened as something slashed the right side of her back near her shoulder, and she winced in pain and as she checked it, her eyes widened as bloodstains filled her fingers, and saw a gaping hole on the back of her shirt.

As she accidentally turn around, the spirit that Miko ignored uses its claws to slash the right side of her chest, ripping a portion of her dress, which also severed the right portion of her bra and heavily grazed her right breast, which was exposed, and that part began to bleed quite heavily.

Miko winced further in pain and there she saw the cause, and realized that the spirit she ignored is actually attacking her, and she began to tremble in terror as she never thought that a spirit would actually want to harm her.

But before she could make a move, the spirit did a finger thrust and its fingernails jabbed through her chest before it penetrated her heart, and Miko coughed heavily while vomiting blood from her mouth before she was punched back.

There she slowly fell to the river as her body is being swept away and the spirit can be seen snickering malevolently and diabolically as it watches Miko's seemingly lifeless body being swept away by the currents.

To Be Continued...

Hope you liked this chapter, as it is typically the same as Mieruko-Chan where Miko would encounter spirits and she would ignore them, but then gets attacked and is seemingly killed…or is she…?

Two of the main characters from the manga/anime, Yu Yu Hakusho made a brief appearance, and it looks like they are aware of Miko's ability, though they left her alone for now...

The next chapter will answer the question whether Miko survive or will she be a spirit without a body…
