DISCLAIMER: I don't own RWBY or any of its characters. It belongs to Roosterteeth. Just the OC's I created for the story.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: I know it's been a long while since I updated. I had this idea for JaunexRuby story for a long while. And I plan to update this one more while trying to work on my other stories like Trials In Life. I really hope people like it. Especially with it being so long waiting for volume 9. This idea had come to my head about angels and demons. That was huntsmen and grimm. Again, with a complicated romance between our favorite couple. And of course, other ships as well. Which would happen as the characters get introduced or met. Such as YangxBlake.
Also try to get all the spelling and grammar errors. Sorry, it I missed anything. That's why it took longer to post the first chapter. Wanted to make sure I got everything.
"RUBY! Come on, it's time to wake up." A familiar voice could be heard. Ruby moaned in exasperation as the sunlight reached her face, she quickly covered her head with the pillow. A giggle could be heard before the pillow was removed. Ruby sighed as if admitting defeat. Her short blackish-red hair that went a little past her chin was in disarray. Her silver eyes had sparkled from the sunlight reflecting off the window. The glass came off like a mirror as she glimpsed at her image.
"Come on, Blake. Five more minutes." Ruby pleaded. She still hadn't adjusted to the schedule that was given to her. Doing all these chores. She felt like it was all work. However, Ruby knew she couldn't complain about the circumstances. Blake had allowed her to stay in her home ever since she stumbled into town. Apparently making her way through the forest by herself. A fleet itself that was impressive due to the grimm that lurked.
"Stop delaying. We have a schedule to keep." Blake directed as she patted her friend on the head. Ruby nodded. She didn't have any money so in order to get a lien had to do chores around the Beacon Inn or find work around town. Ruby found gratification in baking and arranging flowers. She even adapted the last name 'Rose' to show her love for her favorite flowers. She wasn't even sure she had a last name.
"Oh right. I better get started." Ruby preferred to make deliveries around the town of Patch. She had called it, 'Rose's Delights' and used a red rose as a symbol. Even if everyone was talking about her, Ruby hoped to change her view with kindness. Though Ruby knew that people in town would see her as the same clumsy, out of place girl. "After all it's my keep for staying here."
"Ruby, you know that people already see you as unusual since you came to town." Her friend Blake had turned around to look back at her with amber eyes. They were almond in shape with purple eyeliner that was cat-like. "You're my friend. I want you to get your memories back. Find your family. Everything else besides your name. It's almost as if you stumbled into this world by magic. The world will see this as a blessing eventually." Blake gently let out a smile. She rarely showed affection due to being a cat faunus. However, it showed the extent of how much Blake did care about Ruby.
Even though Blake had assured her that everything was outstanding. Ruby nodded. It didn't necessarily mean that she felt settled. Ruby sought to find out the truth of where she came from. Hoping someone was searching to bring her back home. There was times Ruby wondered if she even had a family somewhere. Despite having at least one friend in this town. It didn't help with the loneliness or desire to fit in. Even when everyone seemed kind towards Ruby. She knew it was nothing more than an act.
Blake glanced at the window before looking back at her friend. Her long wavy black hair tied back in a low ponytail. She had placed a black ribbon on her head. This was to hide the fact that Blake was a faunus. A type of species that had an animal trait. For Blake, she had cat ears. Ruby had accidentally discovered this early on when she first was staying in town. It never even occurred to her that it was a bad trait and a faunus was rejected from society.
"I had that dream again." Ruby addressed. It was relatively the same one with this mysterious young man with blond hair. She didn't get much of his face as it was more in shadow. Ruby was falling with a woman-like figure that turned into a grimm. While it could seem like a nightmare because it felt real to Ruby.
"The same one with this mysterious man with blond hair. At least the closest you have to seeing what this 'dream man' of yours looks like. Ruby, it's not like it's going to happen. It's not like it's going to be reality. You don't really even know what this mysterious man even looks like." Blake addressed with concern. She didn't want Ruby to do something reckless if there was a chance that this was something more than a dream. Maybe it was more that Blake didn't want to lose her friend. "You know I sometimes wonder if this dream man of yours is someone you're smitten with." Blake teased.
Ruby displeased as she attempted to ignore it. However, she couldn't help but be flustered, but Ruby didn't want Blake to be proven right. Was she really smitten by this mysterious man? No, Ruby knew it was wrong because she didn't even know him. She was used to Blake teasing her about these dreams, and it was all in her head. "I mean. . . I feel like I belong to a place that's far off the reaches of Remnant. Perhaps this is what my dreams are telling me. Maybe someone is seeking to find me. I don't want to squander my hopes."
"It's hard when you don't have family around." Blake downheartedly addresses, while thinking about her own parents' disappearance. At least from what she knew. She didn't want to think about the reasons they had abandoned her in the town of Patch. "It's hard as it is when everyone is talking about your mysterious past. One day, Ruby came into our town. You didn't remember anything but your name. You could count yourself lucky to have gone through the forest by yourself. Especially with the increasing amount of grimm activity."
"You act like it was some kind of miracle. I certainly don't think it is. Others have to come through the forest path to get here, Blake. Even if they had protection. Not as many grimm are in the forest as it's not as much open space. The only thing that's dangerous is that they could be hiding." Ruby protested as she crossed her arms. "I was in the forest before I was found by a group that was passing by. Seeing I was wounded, my clothes were damaged and hungry. It's not like I am like any of us, our Huntsmen that are combating them."
"No... You may not be seen as a god or an angel that's worshiped." Blake hesitantly agreed. Though Ruby had glanced over in more suspicion than surprise but didn't bother to question it. Instead, Ruby decided to get out of bed. She needed to get ready to bake. Quickly changing into her corset as Blake assisted in helping her tighten the strings in the back. Before helping her friend put on a long red dress, which showed her cleavage. The finishing touches of a white apron tied around on the waist. Blake took a brush as she put a red barrette on the left side that looked like a large ribbon.
Ruby frowned as she played with the skirt of her red dress. She spun around while looking in the mirror. "I feel like a dressed-up doll. I don't know how everyone can wear these long dresses. Does this really have to be a traditional dress?"
"Stop complaining. We need to start baking to put in the display cases before we open up shop downstairs. Besides, you look gorgeous. Men that pass through you are rather taken by you." Blake smiled. She knew Ruby wasn't used to this type of clothing. When she came to town through the forest. She was wearing clothing that appeared to be more that of a huntsman. It was too hard to tell because it was fallen apart in some places as if she had survived some battle. It continued with the mysterious of what exactly happened. Blake knew that Ruby for now had to blend in with the people of Patch for her to be more accepted. Whether this was something she liked or not. "Maybe you can forget about your mysterious man and go on a date with one of the guys in town instead."
"ENOUGH BLAKE!" Ruby cried out. She ended up knocking over a bottle as she turned around. "I'm sorry. I just don't need the constant teasing. I'm going to head to the bakery." It was that Ruby had left the room that left nothing but silence. Blake knew she had gone too far with her teasing to get her that upset. She grabbed a cloth to wipe the counter. Why did she always push others away? Did Blake want to be alone?

The Huntsman Company. It was on an island way above the clouds. It was where the huntsmen were trained to descend to the Remnant below. For the people of Remnant, they were treated like gods. Worshiped or otherwise because of their skills and abilities. Namely, their semblances are an extension of their souls. It had blessed each other with a special ability that aided them in battle against the grimm.
The other factor that made huntsmen exceptional was their immortality. Even higher power that goes beyond their Aura. Which was more just a protective shield that allowed them to use their semblances. When drained they could no longer be used. This immortality was a gift of magic that was bestowed upon them by their leader. There were limits to this, however. As this immortality could be stripped from them, and they would end up mortal. Their leader didn't want any distractions, so huntsmen can't fall in love with a mortal.
It wasn't Oscar that especially wanted to enforce these laws but more his boss. These were the restrictions he had to follow despite being second in command. Even though he was underestimated since he had the physical appearance of his short stature and the fact, he was fifteen years old. The sole focus of the Huntsman Academy was to stop the Grimm. They could be considered demons of Remnant being that there were different types. It was those civilians below that had to be protected.
Oscar Pine, despite his young age was considered the leader of The Huntsman Company. Wearing his standard huntsman outfit. An olive coat had shoulder pads with a red belt. Underneath his coat was a white shirt and bandages that went around his neck. Oscar's gloves had a U-shape with black X-pattern straps on his wrists. He wore his black trousers and red boots that had orange at the tips. Even though he didn't see combat too much. As the leader of the company. Oscar always had to be ready to fight in case.
Despite it Oscar had never understood why he was placed in charge of all these huntsmen to protect Remnant from the grimm. Oscar was only around fifteen years old, yet he had so much responsibility placed on his shoulders. It didn't help that he had 'another self' that he shared a body with. Not knowing when he would take over. Yet, he considered him a friend, he just believed that it was another form of this magic that allowed the huntsmen to be blessed.
Looking through the stained-glass windows as Oscar's hazel eyes at the Huntsman images. Each one showing images of the history of how the Huntsman Company came to be. Oscar wanted to live up to the legacy that was bestowed upon them. This only meant keeping to the laws that the huntsmen most follow. If they don't, he would have no other choice but to strip them of their immortality. Unless he had never done so in the first place. There were ways to prove themselves and retrieve it if they were willing. All laws had loopholes and exceptions.
Oscar Pine had looked at the reports as he flipped through the papers on his clipboard. What team would be beneficial for this mission? Perhaps one person from the team should be sent down first to investigate such as going into the nearby town. Oscar had put up his electronic board as he glanced at the list of teams of huntsmen. His eyes widened as he pushed a button to flip the screen because of his short stature. Team JNPR (Juniper) was one of the best at the Huntsmen Academy that graduated. Oscar smiled as he knew sending their leader Jaune Arc would be the right choice for this mission.
At least for the time being.

Ruby glanced over at the shrine that showed a statue of two huntsmen. A man and woman. For those on Remnant it was where offerings were placed. They were the protectors that fought the grimm. One of many names was that they were believed to be 'angels' that took on a human form. As once their mission was over, they would ascend back to where they came from.
Several people were bringing offers to the base of the statues. It was common to leave things like as it was believed that presenting a gift would ward off the grimm. Huntsmen were known to come to a town or city before a crisis were to occur. Ruby was always drawn to the statues, it just seemed familiar somehow. Maybe it was more a connection to her dreams. She felt bewildered like the girl was someone Ruby knew…they were holding hands before something broke them apart. Both of them were encased in shadow. Ruby could feel her vision getting blurred as her mind was going in and out. Before Ruby could ponder further the clock tower had rung that shook Ruby from her daze.
"Oh, I am going to be late." Ruby panicked. She was on an errand and getting more baking ingredients from the marker. They were both co-owners of the bakery, and she was more in charge of it because Ruby wasn't the type to really run a business. "Why do I let my daydreaming get the better of me? Blake is going to be wondering where I am."
Rose's Delights always seemed to attract attention. More from the tourists passing through Patch and some of the locals that were more friendly. People throughout came in and out buying cookies, cakes, pies, tarts, pastries. Blake had placed a cherry chocolate cake into a cake box as she tied it with a ribbon for the last customer. Leaving with a smile on her face.
Ruby had placed the baskets of ingredients on one of the counters. Was it luck that there weren't many customers there? She did appreciate Blake helping her out when she needed extra help. That meant taking away some of her business at the inn. Ruby quickly started tying her apron around her waist. She wanted to get back to working, so Blake could head back to the Inn. "Sorry, I am late. There was a crowd at the market."
Blake raised her eyebrow. She knew that her friend more likely got preoccupied on her way back. What could she do? Ruby was also trying to figure out more about herself. Blake would be doing the same thing, and she wanted her friend to get her memories back. When Ruby first came to town, she had ended up fainting by the huntsmen statues. Ruby doesn't seem to remember much of what happened. Blake didn't want to take any chances. "Don't worry. I can handle things. If you need to take a rest."
"I can't let you do that." Ruby pleaded. "What about customers coming to the Beacon Inn?"
"That something you don't need to be concerned with." Blake assured her. She shook her head before taking the apron from her. "Ruby, you were near the huntsmen statues. For some reason, you are drawn to them…and we don't need you to faint again because of your memories. I care for you not just as my friend, but you're like family to me. Now go back to the inn. Get your rest."
"All right. If you insist Blake. I am not going to argue. Good night." Ruby smiled as she had started to head out the door. She turned around as she glanced back at her friend "And thank you."

Jaune Arc looked down below as if something was calling him beneath the clouds. Was it the grimm that he was concerned with? Was it a treasure that got lost below in a battle? He always felt drawn to the surface of Remnant, but he couldn't just go down when he pleased. Jaune knew about the restrictions as a Huntsman even though he had gratitude from the Academy. Not when there's a chance he could be stripped of his immortality. Even though it was important to him, this was something he wanted to keep to himself. At least for the time being.
With his hair short, up swept and spiky. As it was a necessity for combat since it could get in the way of a huntsman. His friend and teammate Nora had always teased him that he easily attracts the attention of the women. Though he didn't Jaune wore a high collar black shirt under a re-modified pure white chest plate that covered a bit more of his upper abdomen and similarly colored bracers. It had some similarities to his old armor. Both the chest plate and the bracers are trimmed with gold, and Jaune once again wears two shoulder pads. He wore gloves and a red sash except he now wears dark navy jeans and dark brown boots.
"Still looking below, the clouds, Jaune?" Ren had raised an eyebrow as his team leader and friend. His long black hair that went past his waist with a pink streak. He had a green sleeveless tailcoat with black and silver trimming. Ren had an undershirt that was black with red tassel ropes across his hips, which went over his white pants. It was below the clouds on the surface of Remnant that he was always fixated on. "I'm sure you're eager to go on another mission."
Jaune glanced over at Ren. Hesitant, Jaune took a minute to gather his thoughts, so he wouldn't set off his true ambitions. "There's more to it than that. Yes, it's fun to go on an adventure with each of these missions. Certainly, get more of them than the others because of our competence. It's just that there's more to these missions for me. I guess it's more something I am searching for. I just don't want to lose that part of myself."
"You won't, Jaune. Not when you have your friends. We're like family after all. I always saw you like my brother." Ren assured his friend with a smile. He reached out to put a hand to Jaune's shoulder. He wanted to assure his friend that he was there to support him. "You know, you can tell me anything. That is when you're ready too."
"Thanks Ren." Jaune smiled. He always appreciates the support from his friends and teammates. It allowed him to be a better leader. They would follow his guidance without question when the opportunity came.
"JAUNE!" A voice could be heard from a distance. Almost as if a dog was about to pronounce on him. As he got tackled in an embrace before getting shook about in excitement. An orange haired young woman with aqua-colored eyes stood up as she held a paper in her hand. "You wouldn't believe this, but you got a solo mission on Remnant."
"Really?!" Jaune asked in bewilderment before grabbing the paper from her hand. Glancing over, it was a report that was handwritten that was sending him down for a mission. Signed by Oscar Pine. "Where did you get this from Nora?" Nora Valkyrie was fair-skinned as her wind blew her shoulder-length hair. With pink eyeshadow in the corners of her eyes. A sleeveless white turtleneck shirt with a heart shaped diagonal cut at the top and unattached white sleeves. She had a navy-blue bomber jacket over her shirt with a faded print of her emblem. Nora had a pleated pink skirt with two wide belt loops for matching belt, the skirt has a white layered tulle. She wears knee-high pink socks just visible above her white calf-length boots with pink laces and black low heels, soles and toes. Nora insisted that it was more the style down on Remnant, so she fit in with the 'fashion trends'.
"I am serious. Oscar Pine himself personally wanted you to investigate strange activity down in Patch. Besides, we don't have the full team anyway. Not with Pyrrha's disappearance. It's worrisome." Jaune frowned. Pyrrha Nikos was more his partner on missions. She always had looked out for him back at the academy, and he always appreciated her skills that was leagues above his own. Pyrrha was his friend, teammate and teacher. Despite being the same age, Pyrrha was the one that helped to train him and his semblance.
"Don't worry. Nothing will happen to me. Unlike Pyrrha. I will be in this town of Patch." Jaune smiled with encouragement to Ren and Nora. He knew he couldn't have them be apprehensive about his assignment. "Besides, I am trying to investigate whatever the problem is. Would it be some grimm is another question? Who knows how long it would even take to figure all this out?"
"Oscar Pine has requested for you in particular for this mission, Jaune. He knows that you're more than capable. It's an accomplishment to get a solo mission." Nora addressed. Even with her concern in Jaune going missing like Pyrrha. She knew the risks, and this was an opportunity for them. Jaune could get answers that Oscar Pine, and the company wouldn't provide. "Maybe it also can get answers on what happened to Pyrrha on Remnant. That has to be the reason she disappeared. What if she was attacked by a grimm…or worse."
"You know Oscar has his ways of tracking us on team missions." Ren pointed out as leaned against a tree. He felt like he was the one with the most common sense among the group. "Though something must have happened about Pyrrha's whereabouts, it wouldn't be easy. Not with the restrictions and laws that are given to us. I mean most of the people down there don't possess any powers like we do. In less it's a special case. We're not supposed to tell them about our missions. So how were we supposed to even ask about anyone that went missing."
Jaune agreed. He gripped the report with his hand more firmly. "Yes, you have a point. We're already worshiped even when we're just coming down to do our jobs. Even with all the lavished attention. It's not something I am comfortable with. I'm really going to have to deal with all of it on my own. It's different when we were a team. Despite the luxuries. It can get frustrating very quickly."
"You can handle it. I mean especially with all the ladies. You stud." Nora teased. Jaune cheeks reddened in embarrassment. He always had lots of fangirls when he went down to Remnant. It just made things more awkward when they went on missions.
"I'll guess, it's time to visit Oscar Pine. I need to prepare for this mission." Jaune stood up as he attempted to ignore Nora's teasing. He didn't need to think of such things. "I'll see you guys before I leave."
Both Ren and Nora had watched Jaune head back to the headquarters. Nora shrugged her shoulders. "Things are just going to be different with him not around. I am going to miss him."
"You're acting like he's not going to come back." Ren answered. He also tried to hide his worry. Slowly going over to Nora as he wrapped an arm around her. "We just have to believe everything is going to work out. Nothing is going to repeat itself. Nora felt at ease as she gently rested her head on his shoulder.
Things were going to change. But how? That was another question that was going through their minds.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: We'll that's the first chapter. Please leave a review. I would love to know what you think. It makes me feel special and motivates me to read your comments. Soon enough JaunexRuby will meet...and people are going to wonder how that's going to play out...that for now will be left to your imagination. Hehehe.
I can't wait to write more. And bring smiles to shippers faces. Thanks for reading/reviewing.
