Relationship status: Happily married!
This will be a compilation of small stories about Ace's and Marco's day to day life, modern AU. It won't be in a chronological order, and jumps in time can be made. We will for example still cover them dating and getting together, even though they are already married in this chapter. For this reason, the ages of Marco and Ace, plus their relationship status, will be put at the top. More tags will be added as we go, if something major happens/the theme is sad, there will still be a separate warning in the notes.
"And just sign here."
Ace pressed the pen to the paper and signed with his new longer name, Ace D. Portgas-Newgate, and handed the pen to his husband whom signed as well in a much nicer, and fancy writing-style. How he can be a doctor and still have such fancy writing, he didn't know.
"Congratulations on the purchase of your cabin." The real-estate agent proclaimed smiling and went into the back to make a copy of the documents.
Ace was all giddy, they had talked about doing this for months and months, and it finally happened, they bought the cabin!
Yes, the cabin did need some work done before they could fully use it, but now it was theirs. Their own get-away from the city.
With Marco being a renowned doctor, he needed some time away from the city and hospital to be able to relax, but since he was often on call, it should still be close enough for if he needed to drive back. Ace, who worked from home as a game-streamer, also had a need for a place to get out of the house, to really be away from his workplace.
Besides all of that, they had their little bundle of joy arriving in just a few short months. They still had some work to do on the nursery at their home in the city too, but it was mostly painting and decorating the room.
Smiling brightly Ace looked towards the blond next to him, "We did it!"
Marco kissed his husband, showing his own happiness for it, "Our own home away from home."
Leaving the agency with keys and papers in hand, Ace had wanted to instantly drive towards their cabin, however, since the documents were important, Marco had insisted that they first go home to drop them off. Pouting the freckled man agreed to make a small stop at their city home before driving further.
With Ace on his heels did Marco enter the house.
"Ace-yoi, you find a safe spot for these documents and something to put them in, I wi-"
"ALRIGHT!"
"-will copy them..."
Laughing at his husband's antics, Marco went to make true on his words and made a copy of everything, even scanning them in so they had a digital version, just to be on the safe side of things.
"Marco! Marco! I got this!"
With a bright smile, Ace waved a paper-folder in front of his face, "We can put them with the papers of this house! That way we won't lose them, and will know where to find them!"
"Haha thanks Ace, that's a perfect idea."
"Then, let's go, let's go, let's gooo!"
Quickly putting the papers away, Marco ran after Ace who by now was already sitting ready in the passenger seat of the car, moving his leg up and down while looking out the window to see if he was coming or not. He was sure Ace would have driven off by himself if it wasn't for his Narcolepsy.
Ace only drove short distances and even then he always made sure to have a nap before them to make sure he wouldn't have attack mid-drive.
A few minutes later, they exited the busy city streets and drove into a nearby forest. Both occupants of the car smiled at their small cabin coming in the view.
Marco had barely stopped the car before Ace was out of the car, jumping around like a kid while running towards the door, only to realise that it was Marco who had the key, "Marcooooooo~ c'moooon!"
"Coming, coming haha"
It wasn't that they hadn't been at the cabin before, they had had a quick tour of it, but this would be the very first time that they would open the door with, officially, their own set of keys.
Reaching the door, Marco wrapped his arms around, "Marrrrcooooo~" Ace whined while grabbing for the hands around his waist, wanting to go inside. It only made Marco chuckle, "Let's open it together-yoi."
Taking a-hold of his husband's hands, they placed the key in the lock and turned it together, unlocking the barrier that stood in their way to enter their own personal cabin.
Pushing open the door, Ace instantly went to explore as if he had never seen the place before.
Behind him, Marco walked inside at a more leisurely pace.
"Wait up Ace-yoi, be careful. Remember that the seller warned us of weak-spots in the fl-"
"Ah!"
Jumping forward, Marco was barely on time to catch his husband from falling after one of his feet had sunk away into the floor. In the process, he however successfully knocked a hole into a nearby wall with his elbow.
"Ah..."
"..."
Ace laid still in his arms, looking his husband in the eyes before bursting out laughing, Marco joining him not a minute later while pulling Ace out of the hole.
"I think we found two weak-spots!"
Smiling at the freckled enthusiasm even after they kind of destroyed their new place, he laughed "I guess we did-yoi"
While walking passed the rooms, Ace spoke up, "Which room should the baby's be?" he asked while brushing some dirt off his pants from his miss-step.
"Well, the rooms should all be around the same size, so let's check the view out of each one as a deciding factor." Marco said as he also brushed the dust off his arm from the hole in the wall.
The first room they walked into was the one closest to the kitchen "I feel like this should be the baby's room-yoi."
"Why?"
"Because, this way you won't be tempted as much for a late-night snack compared to if it was our room."
"Marco!" Ace lightly slapped his husband's arm before pouting "I wouldn't... And ..."
"Hmmm what was that last thing?"
Ace looked away and mumbled a bit louder "the kitchen isn't that far off from the other rooms either."
Laughing Marco pulled his husband close, kissing him on the forehead "haha, you're adorable"
"Am not."
Marco placed another kiss, this time on a freckled nose, earning a giggle in return.
"See, adorable-yoi"
"Mmooh Marco! We're looking rooms ~!" The receiver of the kisses blushed and looked away.
"But you sneaking into the kitchen might wake up the baby~" Marco kissed his nose again, causing Ace let out another giggle.
Even while pouting, Ace allowed for Marco to take his hand and to be pulled towards the window, only to see that it was smashed.
"Seems like we've got a few windows to replace-yoi. And a wall... and the floor..." Looking around looked he could see cobwebs all over the room and several holes in practically every wall. "...Maybe a few walls..."
Ignoring his husband's last statements, Ace continued over the topic of the kitchen "When I want a snack... I'll be quiet... Or..." he hugged Marco's arm and looked up with a sly smile "You'll have to give me a midnight snack yourself."
The blond watched how Ace licked his lips and winked at him. Damn, how did he get so lucky to have gotten a guy like this as his husband... But he had to turn a blind eye to the obvious advances right now, he wouldn't start anything in a place this dirty, his husband deserved far better.
"... So... Replacing the walls-yoi..."
Laughing at the weight on his arm doubling, he gave his husband a quick peck on the lips and a apologetic smile before they returned to their own little tour of the cabin, walking into what should become the bathroom next. Only the very basics of plumbing had been done.
"Well, at least we can pick whatever we want to place here..." Ace trailed off as they walked towards the last room, seeing it was also full of dust and cobwebs, but on the plusside, no broken walls. Something did seem off with the ceiling, maybe they could see more from above.
"Let's check out the loft." Ace mentioned as he pulled his husband out and headed towards the ladder that led to a rather large space above the rooms.
"Be careful Ace-yoi"
"I will!"
While Ace made his way up the ladder, Marco made sure to be ready to catch him, should Ace fall for whatever reason. Luckily it seemed that even with the decay in the house, the ladder had somehow been spared.
Reaching the top Ace looked down "Come up Marco! It looks fine!"
And in the end, the loft indeed seemed okay. It was one big space, so not many walls could be broken, and the backwall had two decently sized windows that brought in lots of light. They did need to be replaced since both seemed to at least have some cracks in the glass.
The main problem in the loft however seemed to be the roof. Being directly under it, it became clear that there were some spots were leaks were a definite problem. They had already wanted to replace the roof-tiles eventually, but well, this only added to it that replacing them was definitely needed. By some miracle, at first glance, it seemed that the main structure of the whole cabin, the beams that held everything up, were fine and still in a good condition everywhere.
Marco started heading back down the ladder, he couldn't believe how well it had held up compared to the rest of the place, but he wasn't going to complain. Standing at the bottom of the ladder, he waited for his husband to come down. The sun was slowly going down and it was starting to get cold. "Let's head home for now, babe."
Ace hummed and walked outside first, Marco had the key to close anyway.
Hearing the turning of the key, he turned around and stretched a hand out towards the blond "ready?"
"Of course-yoi" Taking the hand, they together made their way of off the porch.
Thanks to the still present slushy snow remains though, Ace slipped backwards on the last step, successfully falling into his husband who was behind him.
Out of reflex, Marco grabbed his husband by the waist and closed his eyes, preparing for the impact... Only for him to fall on his butt not much lower than where he had been... Confused he looked down, it seemed more like he had sat down on the first step on purpose than actually falling over.
"Well-yoi..."
"Pfff, of course this would happen to us" Ace laughed out loud "You good?"
"Yea, I'm fine, only got a wet butt. You?"
"Mine was saved by a handsome pineapple, so I am fine too."
With a laugh both got up and continued their way to their car.
Almost being halfway between the cabin and the car, Marco stopped walking and pulled at Ace's hand. It had started flurrying out. Confused Ace looked back at his husband and blinked, "Is everyt-" he was cut off by Marco tugging at his scarf, pulling him into a kiss.
He melted into the kiss, reaching out towards his husband's neck before suddenly his beanie was pulled down over his eyes and the kiss was broken off and his scarf released. Pulled his beanie back up, he spun around to see Marco already getting into the car, just grinning at him from his seat.
"Ooi!" Ace laughed and ran after his husband, jumping into the car and leaning over to give his own quick kiss before settling down and buckling up for the drive home.
By the time they reached their house, the sun had already fully sett. Entering, they both took off their shoes and jackets to deposit them in the hallway.
Ace wasn't one full step into their home before he was pulled back and pushed into the wall, right next to the door that he had just walked through.
He was promptly trapped between two strong arms, one at each side of his face.
"Hmm, what's the meaning of this, Marco?"
Said blond leaned forward, pressing his whole weight into his husband's body, making sure one of his legs went in between Ace's. He started moving it as he spoke while looking directly into Ace's eyes, "Well, someone asked for a midnight snack earlier, right?"
Holding back trembles at feeling his husband's leg rubbing him just right, Ace tried to answer as if nothing was out of the ordinary "I- I may remember something like that, but it's not yet midnight now, is it?"
"It's always midnight somewhere."
Wrapping his arms around a strong neck, "I guess you're right."
Smiling at his victory, Marco leaned in to kiss his husband who had no more complaints and melted into his arms.

We're both very excited to be working together on this and are having a lot of fun with it, hopefully everyone who reads this will have the same joy reading it as we're having making it!
