A mission for a teacher?

A/N- Iruka is awesome, so I did this story a long time ago, but well I figure a update wouldn't hurt anything.

The blaring sound of an alarm pierced the air, signaling the start of another ordinary day. Even in a ninja-filled village, such morning routines were universal. A tan hand reached out to silence the alarm, the appendage belonging to none other than Iruka Umino. As a mentor to aspiring ninja, he was well accustomed to the monotonous beeping. He had grown so accustomed to it that he was partly awake before it even sounded, a testament to his internal body clock.

Iruka rose from his bed, stretching as he anticipated the familiarity of the day ahead. He was well-versed in the routine, knowing the expected events and lessons he'd teach. However, he also anticipated the inevitable disruptions that would deviate from his plans. Adaptability was his daily mantra, as unforeseen situations often arose. Each day demanded quick thinking and adjustments.

With purpose, the dark-haired teacher made his way to the shower and quickly readied himself for the day. His attire was chosen efficiently, his hair neatly arranged in its customary fashion. Before heading to the kitchen for breakfast, he tidied his bed with a practiced hand. While eating, he mentally reviewed his lesson plans, mulling over the intricacies of each session – the duration, key points, and sequencing – aspects often overlooked by others but crucial to his teaching.

Donning his vest, he set off for work. He anticipated a day full of activity, bracing for the expected disruptions and sudden changes. His small apartment was conveniently located just blocks away from the academy. It had been his abode for about five years, a space where he continued his vocation. Naruto, his notable student, had departed to train with Jiraiya, leaving behind a void. Although he missed the blonde ninja's spirited presence, he took solace in the belief that Naruto was thriving under Jiraiya's guidance.

Entering his classroom, he noticed Konohamaru, a mischievous figure reminiscent of a younger Naruto. Iruka arranged his belongings on his desk, surveying the room where his students had begun assembling. Some were engrossed in conversations, while others turned their attention to him the moment he walked in. It was the typical start to an average day, a scene that offered a sense of comfort.

Selecting a book, he instructed Konohamaru to come forward and call the roll. The day unfolded as expected – lessons were imparted, assignments distributed, and distractions managed. Konohamaru, true to form, managed to stir up a ruckus, necessitating Iruka's watchful eye. Throughout the day, he nurtured the potential of many students, including Konohamaru, step by step.

As the day drew to a close and his students filtered out, Iruka allowed a tired smile to grace his features. It had been a typical day, following the predictable rhythm of countless others. With his notes complete, he prepared to depart, eager to unwind and recharge for the next day's endeavors. However, his departure was interrupted by the sight of Shizune, her dark hair framing her face, standing in the hallway with a purpose.

Intrigued, Iruka approached her, his curiosity evident. "Shizune, need assistance with a student's appointment or an unexpected rendezvous?" he quipped, his gaze settling on the capable medic and assistant to the Hokage. Although he wasn't one to delve into rumors or the lives of his colleagues, he was always ready to offer a helping hand when needed.

Shizune's surprised expression was met with Iruka's inquisitive tone. She shook her head, dispelling his assumptions. "Actually, I was searching for you, Iruka. Lady Hokage wishes to speak with you," she conveyed, extending a summons to him. "It's of great importance, so I suggest you make your way to her as swiftly as possible."

"Thank you, Shizune. I'll head there immediately," he assured her before departing. The idea of meeting the Hokage left him both intrigued and apprehensive. Such summonses were infrequent, and he recognized the gravity of the situation. Perhaps it was news about Naruto or even a concern related to Konohamaru. His mind buzzed with uncertainty as he strode toward the Hokage's office.

Within the office, Tsunade, the formidable Hokage, met his gaze from behind her desk piled with paperwork. A folder lay before her, its contents connected to his mission. His respectful stance underscored the significance of their conversation.

"Umino Iruka, chunin and esteemed academy teacher, with an impeccable track record. You've garnered admiration from many, including Uzumaki Naruto and Sarutobi Konohamaru. Your limited but successful missions have proven your capabilities, even if they lean toward simpler assignments."

She delved into the mission, revealing that he was to be part of a two-person team investigating a disaster-stricken region. The circumstances were vague, but the urgency was evident. The mission demanded his prowess and, in a surprising twist, he'd be paired with Shizune, a medical ninja. Together, they would assess the situation, offer aid, and compile a report for the village.

Iruka absorbed the information, his mind racing with the unexpected turn of events. Despite his surprise, he wouldn't decline the mission. Tsunade's seriousness underscored its importance, compelling him to accept. This mission differed from his routine, offering a chance to help others beyond his classroom and impart valuable lessons from the experience.

As Shizune entered the room, fully equipped for the mission, Iruka's curiosity deepened. Tsunade explained their partnership and the equal footing they'd share, regardless of rank. It was a testament to the mission's gravity.

Naturally inquisitive, Iruka's curiosity wouldn't allow him to remain in the dark. As he stood before the Hokage, he found the perfect opportunity to seek clarification regarding the purpose of the mission. He respectfully raised his question, "Hokage-sama, I appreciate the mission assignment, but could you shed some light on its purpose? Understanding the context would undoubtedly aid me in fulfilling my role more effectively."

Tsunade regarded him with a measured expression before offering her explanation. "Iruka, this mission carries a diplomatic significance. The Cloud Village has shown interest in the Leaf's exceptional achievements in the realm of ninjutsu. They seek to comprehend the foundation of our village's success as skilled ninja. They're particularly intrigued by the principles that have driven our growth."

Iruka absorbed this information, realizing that this mission was about sharing knowledge and insights with a fellow village. His brows furrowed slightly as he grasped the importance of this exchange. "So, my role would involve conveying the essential aspects that have contributed to Konoha's proficiency in ninjutsu?" he clarified.

Tsunade nodded, confirming his understanding. "Exactly. Your experience as a dedicated academy instructor will be invaluable in highlighting our teaching methodologies and strategies for producing capable ninja."

As the explanation continued, Shizune's involvement in the mission became apparent. Iruka's surprise grew as Tsunade revealed that Shizune had volunteered to provide insights into medical jutsu education during the meeting. The prospect of this collaboration intrigued him, as it was an opportunity to present a comprehensive picture of Konoha's strengths.

Shizune's medical expertise paired with Iruka's teaching acumen would present a well-rounded view of the village's successes. The Cloud's interest extended beyond combat prowess to education and skill development. It was a testament to the Leaf's reputation and a chance for Iruka and Shizune to showcase their respective expertise on a larger stage.

With newfound clarity, Iruka accepted the significance of the mission. He appreciated the responsibility of representing Konoha's values and achievements. As he left the office, he carried not only a mission dossier but also a sense of pride in being chosen for this diplomatic endeavor.

As the day transformed from routine to the extraordinary, Iruka's anticipation grew. The mission ahead was a unique opportunity, different from his usual routine of teaching young ninja. With Shizune at his side, he would embark on a journey of collaboration, sharing, and showcasing the Leaf Village's distinctive strengths.

Within an hour, Iruka had gathered his essentials and meticulously packed for the extended mission ahead. The prospect of venturing beyond the familiar confines of the village was both exciting and unnerving. Long-term missions were an uncommon occurrence for him, and the anticipation of the unknown weighed on his thoughts. Nonetheless, his dedication to the task at hand spurred him to prepare thoroughly.

As he stood at the village gate, his bag slung over his shoulder, Iruka observed the bustling activity around him. Villagers went about their daily routines, seemingly unaware of the significant journey he was about to undertake. With a deep breath, he reminded himself of the purpose behind this mission – to represent Konoha's teachings and values to the Cloud Village.

Shizune's arrival interrupted his contemplation, and he turned to greet her with a nod of acknowledgement. "Shizune-san, I'm ready for the journey. It's an honor to be working with you on this mission."

Shizune, equipped with her medical flak jacket and her bag, met his gaze with a determined expression. "Likewise, Iruka-san. Your insights into teaching methods will be invaluable during our discussions."

Iruka couldn't help but feel a renewed sense of purpose. He realized that his role extended beyond being a teacher; he was now an ambassador of sorts, carrying the knowledge and traditions of the Leaf to another village. He and Shizune were a dynamic duo, each bringing their unique expertise to the table.

As they prepared to set off, Iruka spared a final glance at the village that had been his home for so long. The academy, where he had nurtured countless young minds, stood as a testament to his dedication. The journey ahead was not just about teaching techniques; it was about sharing the spirit of Konoha and the bonds that united its people.

"Let's make Konoha proud, Shizune-san," he said with a determined smile, ready to embark on this new chapter of adventure and diplomacy.
