Lorelai was still on a bit of a high from not only her few days with Luke, but her mother's support. She had made her way home, changed into some comfortable clothes and waited for Chris' return. She changed her mind a million times on how she planned to handle this. Her first instinct was to start off on the attack, let him know he's caught and see what he does. The idea of his lie got her angrier and angrier, until she started to wonder if Chris could actually be this insane or cruel or whatever he had to be to lie about this. Maybe he didn't know, maybe Phillipe was wrong. Maybe she wanted to be with Luke so badly that she would believe anything to get her out of this marriage. But then she remembered what Emily said as Lorelai was hugging her goodbye. "You did nothing wrong. Don't doubt yourself, don't give him that power!" With those words ringing in her ears she straightened her shoulders and paced the kitchen. When she saw the headlights through the window she took a deep breath.

"Honey, I'm home" Chris called as he walked in the house.

Lorelai quietly made her way to the living room to greet him.

"Hey," Chris smiled as he leaned in to kiss her.

She pulled away quickly and he barely noticed. He flopped onto the couch and spread out.

"Travelling is so tiring. I told them that I will need a few months before I go anywhere again. I want to be here with my beautiful Bride, have our party and maybe a second honeymoon locked in the bedroom."

Lorelai sat on the couch against the arm, leaving as much room between them as possible. "So I was thinking," she started. "I'm not super excited about the whole party thing my Mom is planning for HER friends. You know. But of course I don't want to upset her. We've really come a long way in these last few years."

"So why not just have the party?" Chris shrugged.

"Well, I was going to suggest two parties, one for her friends and one in Stars Hollow. That way Mom can have her party style and I can have mine. I'll be more agreeable to her vision for her party because it's HER party and I can plan the Stars Hollow one."

"Sounds great," Chris nodded.

"Great! Now, what I'm going to need your help with is convincing her that the vows she wants to see be done here."

"Why?"

"Well, ever since this place became my home this is where I envisioned my life. Raising Rory, I always dreamt of getting married in the gazebo or by the lake, this is where my business is. That makes sense, right?"

"Sure, how can I help?" he agreed.

" I was thinking that you could fly in Phillipe and he could perform the ceremony. Since he was the one that married us originally I thought it would be romantic for us and it would be a great way to convince my Mom to do it my way, because this officiant would have special meaning to us. Plus, Mom can't resist something from France."

Instantly Chris sat up and laughed, "That's ridiculous. Your Mom is offering to throw us a gorgeous wedding with your family's pastor. Why would I spend the money to fly in some stranger who barely speaks English? If you want to do it here use Stars Hollow's Reverend. You like him." He got up and walked to the kitchen

Lorelai jumped to her feet and followed him, "Chris?!"

He grabbed an imported beer from the fridge, tossed the cap into the sink and shook his head, "For someone who claims to not be interested in money you are suddenly happy to start throwing mine around. Let's have two parties! Let's fly in people from France! What next?"

"Woah woah woah!" Lorelai yelled back. "When you first got this money you wanted to buy me a castle or a Bently or land and now because, for our fake vows that other people want to see us exchange, I want to bring in the guy that actually married us, you're upset? "

Chris softened, "You're right. Whatever you want, I'll do it."

Lorelai nodded, "Perfect! Cause what I really want is to call off this party crap! We had a simple and sweet marriage ceremony in France. Because we wanted to be married, not because we wanted a stupid wedding. So let's tell Mom, thanks but no thanks."

Chris was flustered, "What's going on with you? First it's no party, then you finally agree, a second ago you wanted two parties and now none at all!"

"We're already married, right?" Lorelai looked at him pointedly.

"Yeah," he said with no hesitation.

"So why not focus on our married life? We have to get settled in the house and decide on a renovation plan. Before you know it Spring will be here and I'll be busy at the Inn. I'll tell Mom she can throw us an anniversary party next year. That way we get out of exchanging cheesy vows."

"Why don't you want to say the vows in front of people? Are you ashamed of me?"

They were standing in the kitchen and he started to get closer. He reached out and tried to pull her close to him. He took her hand and she pulled away.

"Enough! Enough, Chris!"

Chris jumped back in shock, "What? What's enough?"

Lorelai crossed her arms in front of her chest, "Most of our lives I tried to defend you when parents, teachers and police would tell me that you were trouble. Even when you knocked me up when I was fifteen, and wanted our parents to deal with it, I made excuses for you. Or when your father was talking about what a mistake Rory was IN FRONT OF HER and you let my Father and I defend her. You asked me to marry you so many times and I never said yes."

Chris sighed impatiently, "What are you getting at?"

"You never showed up for our daughter and now you want me to help you raise the daughter you had with another woman!"

"You love Gigi."

"Chris, for once in your life stop thinking only about yourself. Look me in the eye and tell me that we're married."

That 'I'm caught' look flashed on his face but he quickly recovered and went on the defensive. "Why would you ask that?!" He snapped.

"Don't do this Chris," Lorelai started to whisper.

"What?"
Lorelai went to the table and pulled a paper out of an envelope, "See this?" She handed it to him. "Do you know what that is?" She saw his eyes running furiously over the sheet.

"Where did you get this?" He asked.

"I took what you told me was our marriage licence to be translated and framed. It was going to be a gift for you. Turns out, it's NOT a marriage certificate."

Christopher was flustered, "Lor, Oh my god. I am going to call that bastard and give him a piece of my mind. Well it's a good thing your Mom wants us to do the vows again. I'll arrange for a marriage licence here and then it will be a done deal."

"I already called the guy in France, Phillipe," she said, crossing her arms again.

"You did? Well, could you understand him?"

She shook her head and exhaled through her nose, "He told me! He said that you were very aware that our ceremony wasn't legal, he thought I knew. He started the conversation asking me how our real wedding was. Stop, just stop lying to me!"

"Is this about him? The Diner Guy?!"

"You are insane! You lied to me about being married! You risked my relationship with my daughter, my parents and all my friends! You were trying to trick me into having another wedding so you wouldn't have to tell me the truth! How do you expect me to ever trust you again? How do you think we can build a marriage on a lie?"

"You thought we were married. All we had to do was just repeat what you thought we already said and it would be official. You already told people we are married and your relationships are fine! So I have to believe that the only issue is him!"

"Are you serious? We impulsively eloped. Or so I thought. You don't think I had the right to know it wasn't real?"

Chris finally gave up, he sighed and fell onto one of the kitchen chairs. "I saw your face. The next morning you were already having second thoughts. If I told you, you never would have married me. It was my only chance."

She softened only a little bit, "Well don't you see that as a problem? Do you think we'd have a marriage that would last if you knew I thought it was a mistake, or something I was second guessing so soon after it was done?"

"I know. I thought I could keep you happy."

"You knew before we walked down the aisle."

"Yeah."

"I need you to pack your things."

Chris stood and tried to make eye contact, "Lor, no! We can get past this. It is the first time in our adult lives that we're both on the same page, we're both available to be together. We can make this work. No one else has to know that we're not married. We can go ahead with what your Mom is planning. We can even have the second party you wanted in the Town Square, we can get married wherever you want."

Lorelai shifted away, taking a few steps back. "Chris, you need to go. This stunt is the last straw. It's been way too many years of being disappointed or let down by you. I've gotten over and forgiven so many things. But this is a step too far. I'm done Chris. You need to leave!"

"And what if I say no?"

Suddenly a loud clap of thunder startled both of them. An instant later torrential rain started to fall over Stars Hollow.
