Sam closed the grill down before stepping back, wiping the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand as he held the pan as slid inside the house. He didn't expect it to be so hot out today this early, but he was glad that the last of the meat was on the grill. Since a lot of his family had been out of town for the fourth, they agreed to have a get together when they all were back in town two weeks later. He found his older brother in the kitchen, leaned back in the chair with his beer as he watched the baseball game on the big screen in the living room.

Seeing him enter, Sonny glanced at him before looking back at the game, "For once, I'm glad I didn't volunteer to cook."

Sam snorted as he sat the pan on the counter, "You can bet your ass this my last time for a minute. It's hot as hell."

Sonny laughed as he turned to look at his brother. He hadn't seen him in a minute and he easily read that he was going through the motions, "How are things with Mercedes?"

"As expected I guess." He responded to his brother as he fixed him a small plate and took a seat beside him, "I fucked up."

"No shit Sherlock." He told him with a shake of his head, "I'm still trying to figure out how the fuck it even got to that point."

"It doesn't matter. She's truly done with me and I can't blame her. I ruined one of the best relationships I've ever had." Sam answered as he looked at him, before his eyes darted behind him, "But I got one of the best gifts from it."

Sonny followed his line of sight and spotted his brother's only source happiness these days. He watched as the little girl moved the sliding door over, and came into the kitchen.

Skylar smiled as she took a seat in between her uncle and father, stealing a piece of meat from Sam's plate, giggling as he playfully swatted her hand.

"I can't believe you cut all your pretty hair off."

Skylar shrugged as she bit into the rib, "It's just hair, it'll grow back."

Sonny nodded his head as he leaned back in his chair, "Great mindset kid."

"But you on the other hand…."

Sam chuckled a bit his daughter's comment and his brother pursing his lips before he continued to eat his food. Some time went by as the trio sat in silence watching the game until the young broke it.

"Daddy?"

"Mhm?"

"Can I ask you a question?"

Sam turned to look at her as he noticed the seriousness in her voice, eyebrows shifting questionably, "Sure."

Skylar sighed before her eyes settled on her father's, confused and honestly heartbroken, "Why did you kiss someone that wasn't Mommy?"

Sonny chocked on his drink when he heard the question, his eyes going wide as he looked over at his brother as he reached for a napkin, patting his chest so he could breath and gather his composure.

"Where did you hear that?"

"Aunt Mona." She said innocently as she fiddled with her hand, "She said that you didn't love mommy anymore and that's why y'all not together."

Sam rolled his eyes as his jaw clenched, taking a deep breath as he stared at his daughter, "Sky…I love your mom very much…and it's some things that you're too young to understand right now but…"

"So it's true?"

Sam watched as her eyes filled with tears, opening and closing his mouth, he couldn't even answer but by him not saying nothing was just confirmation for her. He watched as she slid from the chair and run out of the room, "Skylar, wait!"

Hearing the door slam and lock, Sonny looked over his brother and got up from the chair, "I'll go talk to her."

Sam pulled out his phone, dialing the number angrily as he began to pace the floor. He couldn't believe that the one thing he asked for was no longer a secret.

Mercedes just nodded as she lifted her wine glass up, downing the rest of it as she rolled her eyes. She couldn't believe that she let her sister convince her to go out on this "friendly date". She was truly bored out of her mind and over this man talking about himself. Hearing her phone ring, she sat the glass down and pulled it out, seeing that it was Sam, for once, she thanked God that he was calling. She grabbed her purse and slid back in the chair, "Excuse me, I have to go." She didn't even give him a chance to say anything before she was gone. She made it to her car quickly, locking her door once she got in and called Sam back, hearing the thunder crack in the sky. Hopefully everything was okay with Skylar because that's the only reason he would be calling for. She nor he greeted each other, him jumping straight into what he called for.

"Your sister is bath mouthing me to my daughter and I don't appreciate that at all."

"What are you talking about Sam?"

"Sky knows about what happened between me and Chasity. She told me that Mona told her that I didn't love you anymore so I went and found someone else."

Mercedes sighed as she looked out the window as droplets of rain started to hit the outside of her car, "I know."

"You know?" Sam responded as he looked at the phone incredulously before putting it back to his ear, "So you agreed with her doing this?"

"I can't believe you'd think so low of me that you think I'd encourage her to do that."

"I don't know what hell to think anymore, Mercedes. I can't go back and change what I did. I messed up and I'm sorry, but I asked for one thing only out of this whole mess and that was to never let our daughter find out. Now she's upset, crying and locked in her room because of it."

Mercedes didn't know what to say. She was truly at a lost for words and she was mad. No, not at Sam but her sister for even telling Skylar. Regardless of everything, she'd never put their daughter in this mess and she never wanted her daughter to view Sam poorly. He was an amazing and devoted father, more than she could ask for.

"I asked for one thing….this one thing."

She heard him say before he hung up. Closing her eyes and leaning her head on the steering wheel, she let out a shaky breath as the rain fell harder. She had to make this right somehow.
