Chapter One
She felt a soft warm breeze as she was awaking on the soft ground. The smell of lilacs and grass entered her nose, and she could hear the sound of something snap.
Opening her big doe brown eyes, the child felt a little groggy. Her vision was blurry, but what caught her off guard was that the images around her were visible. No more black emptiness.
She sat up on her knees and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes as she let out a big yawn, like she had been sleeping for years. Maybe I was, she thought.
A gasp escaped the girl's mouth when she saw the beautiful sight. She was in the middle of a forest with green grass, leaves, and tons of different types of flowers. Is this day?
There was a sudden grunt from the trees ahead, and the child couldn't help but feel like somebody was watching her.
"Wh..Who is that?" she said her first words as she peered at the trees. "Who are you there?"
There was a shadow, and soon a face with sky golden eyes. "I smelled you," the strange person said.
"You smelled me?" the girl asked. She waited for the stranger to reply, but nothing came up. She was able to stand on her small feet, working with her balance like it was her first time standing.
The child was as small as any ordinary five-year old girl could be. She held her arms out in front of her and let the wind hit her face and blew her short auburn hair, and her white summer dress.
She was so focused on her own perspective of being existing, that the child had almost forgotten about the stranger hiding in the trees. When she glanced back over, she noticed some long strands of greenish brown hair swaying out in front of her.
"Come over here," the child said softly. "You need to come so I can see you."
The stranger finally made her way out slowly. She was taller than the child, but still pretty short for a woman, if she was a woman. Or perhaps she was another child? "Did you really smell me?"
"Yes, Fuko smelled you from a mile away," the stranger answered.
The child watched her closely. She could see that the person was young. Her long hair that was tied in a purple ribbon, went down her bottom, and her green dress was just the same length as the child's own dress was.
"You were asleep," Fuko added. "Fuko told Kouko that I could smell you. And you are so cute,I have to hug you now!"
The child found herself turning away to escape the stranger's sudden dash, but it wasn't enough for her to escape.
Warm arms wrapped around her and held her tightly. "You are so cute," Fuko said again. "Just, what is your name?"
The child could barely move, so it was impossible to struggle. What she could do was try to think about what she was called. It was the first time she ever saw daylight and another person, so who could she be?
However, she felt like she remembered a particular name, even if she wasn't so sure where it came from. It was easy to think of.
"Ushio," she answered.
