Chapter 4 Pollution

Cuphead, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice were walking alongside the river of Isle One trying to figure out where to go next and who was the next Sorrow they would go up against, when they came across a gross sight. There was a few big pipes ahead of them dumping green and black liquid chemicals into the river. Several fish, frogs, toads, newts, and birds laid by the river looking very sick and unwell, mostly likely due to coming into contact with the chemicals from the pipes. The trio of heroes were shocked at the sight and saw that both Cagney Carnation and the Root Pack were lying among the sick. This careless pollution had to be the work of one of the Sorrows.
"This stinks of the Sorrows." Said Cuphead.
Mugman pulled out the files and began to go through them, until he found the most likely culprit.
"This looks like the work of Gordon Grimes." Said Mugman.
"Well let's go find this creep and put him out of business." Said Ms. Chalice.
The three of them followed the pipe to a large gruesome looking factory building that was coughing up smog into the sky. The heroes located a entrance and made their way into the factory. It looked like a automobile factory on the inside with various toons walking around like they were in a trance as they built big ole cars and then they had them run for several minutes before turning them off and driving them out.
"Um excuse me, can you tell us where the boss is?" Asked Mugman to one of the employees.
The employee stared blankly at Mugman for a few seconds and then went back to work. Mugman asked some other workers the same question, but got the exact same response. Cuphead and Ms. Chalice tried their luck with the employees, but the same results.
"What's with these people? Why they being so rude and not talking, when we ask them questions?" Asked Cuphead.
"I've seen graveyards with more lively and responsive people." Said Ms. Chalice.
"I think they might be under some kind of spell from Grimes." Said Mugman.
"Well let's go find Grimes and break his little spell." Said Cuphead.
The trio decided to go upstairs to see if they could find Grimes and no one tried to stop them. They eventually reached the top floor and found a large door at the end that must of been the boss office. Cuphead swung the door open and he, Mugman, and Ms. Chalice entered the office and found Grimes.
Grimes was a colossus made of a tar-like black substance that seemed to be constantly shifting or melting. He had glowing white eyes and a glowing white mouth. Grimes sat behind a desk that appeared to be made of the same substance as himself, along with the chair he was sitting in.
"Who are you three barraging into my office?" Demanded Grimes.
"I'm Cuphead and this is my brother Mugman and our friend Ms. Chalice. We're here to put a stop to you and send you back to Death Inc." said Cuphead.
"We already dealt with Hector Krank, so why don't you just give up." Said Mugman.
"You pip squeaks manage to beat Krank?" Asked Grimes.
"We did." Said Ms. Chalice.
"Nice. I hated that guy. He always thought he was always better then me." Said Grimes with a chuckle.
"So are you going to surrender and come quietly to Death Inc?" Asked Ms. Chalice.
"No. I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to squeeze you all into fuel and put you into a car to make more pollution!" Said Grimes as he absorbed both the chair and the desk into his body and increased his size and mass.
The heroes backed away as Grimes stomped towards them. Cuphead and Mugman quickly fired energy bullets at the giant. Grimes roared as he slammed his fist into the ground, the fist spread into a puddle that spread towards the heroes and several smaller fists sprung up from the puddle and struck at them. Cuphead and Mugman yelped as they jumped to avoid most of the fist, but a few fists struck them and kicked the two of them back towards the door. Grimes's arm reformed as he fired a slimy ball from his mouth at Cuphead and Mugman forcing them to dive out of the room to avoid getting hit. Ms. Chalice flew after her friends as Grimes oozed his way out of the door after them and into the hallway.
"You kids better run!" Laughed Grimes as he stretched his arm out towards the heroic brothers in attempt to smash them.
Cuphead and Mugman jumped to the sides to avoid getting hit as they continued to fire on Grimes. The Sorrow just laughed as he swung his long arm around making Cuphead and Mugman jump over it to avoid it. Grimes fired a blast of slime from his mouth that struck Mugman and slammed him into the wall with a wet sick thunk. Mugman tried to break free from the slime, but couldn't.
"I'm stuck!" Yelled Mugman.
"Hang on bro!" Yelled Cuphead as he fired more magic bullets into Grimes.
"Quick eat a Astral Cookie and free yourself. I'll fight Grimes in your place." Said Ms. Chalice.
"Alright." Said Mugman as he quickly pulled out a cookie in his pocket and bit into it.
There was a flash of light as Mugman became a ghost and escaped his bonds and Ms. Chalice became solid and joined in on firing magic bullets at Grimes. After a few more minutes of shooting the heroes decided to go to a much wider area to fight Grimes so they ran down the stairs to the main floor with Grimes chasing after them. They stopped on a long catwalk and Cuphead and Ms. Chalice went back to shooting at Grimes, who shot more slime balls at them and attempted to smash the duo with his fist, but they avoided his attacks. Grimes was getting annoyed by the heroes and decided it was time to get big. He looked down at a large vat full of oil and other chemicals and jumped right into it with a loud splash that sent oil raining down everywhere. It got on the machines, the workers, and Cuphead and Ms. Chalice.
"This is just gross." Said Ms. Chalice in disgust as she looked down at her stained clothes.
Grimes emerged from the vat even bigger now as he let out a nasty laugh before attempting to smash the heroes, who quickly jumped off the catwalk to avoid getting smashed. Cuphead and Ms. Chalice landed on the ground below and continued firing at Grimes as he spat more slime balls at them. The workers just stood around and watched the whole fight with blank looks on their faces. Ms. Chalice took notice of some cranes up above Grimes moving heavy equipment and fired some magic bullets at them making the cranes drop the boxes right onto Grimes and stunning him. Cuphead and Ms. Chalice unleashed their secret arts on the stunned Sorrow. Cuphead used his Energy Beam and Ms. Chalice used her Ghost Barrage. The attacks struck Grimes making him scream in pain and dismay as he sank into the vat.
"Is it over?" Asked Mugman.
Grimes crawled out of the vat as his normal size and he attempted to stagger away.
"Oh no you don't." Said Cuphead as he fished out one of the badges and tossed it at Grimes.
The badge struck Grimes and he vanished in a flash of light. Grimes found himself trapped in a giant jar with a lid sitting at a conference table at Death Inc, with Krank glaring at him. The Sorrow let out a miserable groan.
Back on the mortal plane the spell on the workers was broken and the workers were looking around in confusion at their surroundings. The factory then began to shake like crazy forcing Cuphead, Mugman, Ms. Chalice, and the workers to flee the building as it began to crumble to bits. Once the factory was laying in ruins flowers and trees began to grow and emerge from it and the building remains and pollution just vanished.
"Looks like we made a positive change in our world by beating Grimes and sending him back to Death Inc." said Mugman.
"Then let's go hunt down the rest of the Sorrows." Said Cuphead.
"But first let's clean up a bit." Said Ms. Chalice indicating their dirty clothes.
The brothers agreed with Ms. Chalice and they went to go clean up.
