Weiss Schnee

The room was open. The windows, blinds, even the door to the balcony were all as open to the world as could be, the only thing still securely closed was the door to the room, like a sign telling people to stay out. She couldnt face anyone right now, or rather she just didn't want to. Weiss could recognise that the time was still morning, otherwise the sunlight wouldn't be flowing into the room so powerfully.

The whole room was blanketed in the suns rays, it bounced off the general white colour of the decor and gave an almost yellow glow to the whole thing, not that Weiss could see that. Currently still in bed, fully covered by a white sheet from head to toe, anyone could try and open her door and she wouldn't know... though, Clover was probably still stationed outside.

"Lot of good that good lucks doing..." The words were but a mumble, she knew that Clovers power would only be extending to her child at the moment and not actually her so... well she just felt like complaining anyway. The sunlight was pouring through the thin sheet above her, but luckily it was just thick enough to keep the smell contained.

The necklace, her one lifeline... Ruby's scent was so much more powerful while she kept it locked under the blanket like this. At some point she knew she was going to have to get up and be the Queen... but for now, for as many hours as she could steal away this morning... she was going to keep her eyes closed, and pretend Ruby was under the blanket with her.

A hand rested on her belly, she let out a sigh and smiled gently as she spoke. "You're being a real pain you know that...? I want to see her too... but doing this to me isnt going to make her come back sooner..." Her child was causing her body to scream out for Ruby's own, the safety of their other parent... "Dragons are the most powerful species... I wonder what made them develop these instincts..."

A knock on her door nearly too silent for her to hear made her want to freeze the room over.

"Your Majesty? It's... time." Clovers words were quiet and careful... obviously he wasn't too keen on having to tell her that, but she had a Kingdom to take care of... and it was time to start the day.

With a groan, she slowly sat up and let the blanket fall to her shoulders. The scent slowly got thinner and thinner before she was left with just what the necklace naturally let off... and she let out another sigh.

"Wow... I'm so good at being independent..."

"Ah, Your Majesty. How are you this fine-" Weiss didn't even stop as she walked to her chair past him, instead practically slamming herself into her seat and downing half her tea at once. "-morning...?" Oobleck looked incredibly confused, but didn't attempt to pry.

The answer to her mood was pretty obvious to everyone present... Ruby's 'short mission' was still going... a week later.

She didn't glare at Ozpin, as she had done every chance she got this past week, rather she just didn't want to look at him anymore. He seemed to understand his own mistake however, as his guilt was plain to see for anyone that might glance in his direction. Clover swapped out Weiss's tea for a full one, and was already moving over to make more... She was back on the special concoction that Glynda had cooked up for her, and lucky for the Queen, its effects stacked with her necklace.

"Let's just begin." They were frankly lucky that she wasn't taking her frustration out on them, only the hatred she bared for her father was preventing her from stooping to his level.

"We have received multiple reports-" That was about as much as Weiss heard before she stopped paying attention. Instead she got lost in her thoughts, deciding that they were more interesting then whatever financial issues the kingdom may or may not be having.

Vale wasn't the most prosperous of kingdoms. They lacked a major export like Atlas had in Dust and Mistral in farming. Vacuo was in a similar boat, but they weren't exaclty as extravagant as the other capitals. Still, with the Vytal festival this year being held in Vale, it would be a massive boost to the economy thanks to all the tourists coming to see it live, not that there were ever enough seats for them all. But that boost wouldn't last forever, Amity Colosseum would probably take more money then it gave over the course of the next decade they were stuck with it... well unless someone got creative with it.

Vale only had two edges up on the other capitals currently. Qrow Branwen and Pyrrha Nikos being loyal to Weiss gave the country two out of the four arguably most powerful people in the world. Adam Tauras - who had been identified as Famine - had a currently unknown location, and Raven Branwen was the leader of a tribe of some sort in Mistral. Weiss had asked some questions about the tribe... but Qrow wasn't willing to give anything away, or talk about it in general really.

The second edge up Vale had over other kingdoms was its relative closeness to the Emerald Forest. Each continent seemed to have one major place that acted as a sort of breeding ground for Grimm. No one knew exaclty how it worked, but for whatever reason the creatures seemed to just appear from within the forests depths. Weiss had some personal theorys after hearing about Salem... but venturing into that place was seemingly a death sentence. Perhaps Vale had a few individuals powerful enough to brave the expedition... but risking their lives was just stupid.

Burning the forest down wasn't an option either, it had been attempted before but it always seemed to rain or even storm whenever that place caught alight. It was obviously a defense mechanism of some sort, but one that could only be investigated by... well, going into the forest.

"-I believe that we could use Amity Colosseum as a training ground for-" Weiss zoned in for a moment to see if they were talking about anything interesting, but just as quickly zoned out when she heard Oobleck still talking... the man truly was a waterfall of information whenever he got started.

The meeting continued for nearly an hour at that same pace. Weiss not paying attention while they spoke about different ideas to make good use of the Colosseum, the best idea so far was to use it as a recon station for Hunters, but it wasn't an easy feet to move the structure up higher into the sky. That would take more Dust then they had access to, and while they could fall back on Atlas for assistance in that regard... well, Weiss preferred waiting for when her brother took the throne before asking that kingdom for aid.

Finally, something was mentioned that caught her attention.

"-I believe that team RJVE should be returning today after their lengthy mission-" Ozpin was cut off as Weiss shot up from her relaxed seated position, snapping her view onto him with eyes that burned asking for details. "Um... We recieved a report about the exact details of their... extended stay... apparently the fortress was assaulted by a rather sizable hoard of Grimm. They didn't report any injured or dead so-" Weiss practically scowled at him as he spoke.

"Why was I not made aware of this until now." It wasn't a question, and she didn't speak it as one.

"Unfortunatly I was ordered to not share the details of the mission with you until necessary." She could see the sweat moving down his face, Ozpin usually wasn't one to react with fear... but that wasn't important right now.

"Ordered by who."

Her foot was tapping, she knew it was. Hell, she couldn't hear anything but her foot tapping away. Her face held a scowl and her posture was one of both disappointment and anger... directed at who though was a great question.

Waiting on the air dock was all she could do right now, as much as she wanted to fly over to that fort and scold Ruby the second she had found out, transforming wasn't possible while pregnant, so she was stuck here. Waiting.

"Your Majesty? Are you alright?" Clover was just trying to be helpful, but Weiss left him without a response. She didn't want to take her anger out on him, and if she opened her mouth she knew that's all that would come out right now.

After three hours of waiting, she could finally spot the red dot in the sky. She crossed her arms tight as she watched it grow ever so slightly bigger and bigger, eventually passing through the border of the city and heading straight for them. The Rose Dragon had fully come into view at this point, and Weiss felt her body relax as she layed her eyes on the creature.

Annoyingly... her anger subsided dramatically when she saw them. As much as she wanted to scold and yell at Ruby... her excitement at having her back took precident. Her tapping grew faster and louder and her posture softened as she took a step closer to where they were going to land... anything to be closer to her as soon as possible.

Ruby came in pretty quickly, dropping the barrier just before landing which hit the landing pad with a more gentle impact then the people inside were expecting. The Dragon didn't land, instead exploding into an uncountable amount of rose petals and gathering in front of Weiss. They reformed into a familiar figure, and Weiss had her wife back in her arms before she had even fully formed in front of her.

They held each other as tightly as possible, Ruby's arms around her giving off so much warmth and a feeling of safety she had been all but lacking this past week. Weiss let out a gentle breath that it felt like she had been holding since Ruby left, and melted into her arms.

"I missed you." The words didn't need to be said, but she still whispered them out anyway. Ruby nodded gently and pulled her in tighter, if that was even possible, her cloak practically wrapped around Weiss as well as they embraced, keeping them both separated from the world behind a curtain of red.

"I missed you too..." She kissed Weiss's forehead gently and sighed softly, almost sounding in relief. "Both of you." Weiss couldn't help but chuckle a little.

"Our baby isn't even born yet Ruby..."

"And? I still missed them."

Weiss scrunched her face slightly as she remembered her previous anger at the girl... but she couldnt summon any of her previous ferocity. "I have a bone to pick with you..." She practically mumbled the words, they held none of the venom she wanted to show.

"I figured..." Ruby didn't let her go or pull away, they simply stood there for a moment... it was probably incredibly awkward for everyone else watching. "But... can we save that for later?" Finally Ruby pulled her head back a little to look down into Weiss's eyes... and the Queen slowly nodded in response.

"Ok." She didn't need to bite Ruby's head off about it... she didn't need to get incredibly angry, or accuse her of anything... she just needed to talk it through with her.

Slowly they separated and Ruby turned to Clover, while still keeping a tight grip on Weiss's hand. "Thank you for keeping them safe while I was gone." He seemed surprised at that, but gently shrugged.

"Its my job... besides, I want my weapon remember?" He had a smile on as he spoke, and Ruby chuckled a bit at that.

"Yeah, that's totally the only reason you did it."

"Not that there was anything to protect me from..." Weiss muttered. "Honestly this week has been incredibly boring..."

"Better boring then exciting in the wrong way." Jaune approached with a smile and focused his expression as he turned to Ruby. "I'm uh... gonna go find Pyrrha." They exchanged a nod and he just as quickly walked away, followed shortly by Velvet and Emerald who seemed to have their own things to do.

"What was that about?" She looked up to Ruby and the redhead shrugged.

"Yang owes me some Lien." Ruby smirked and Weiss deadpanned at that.

"What." She didn't get a response as Ruby just smiled at her, but she soon joined her wife in smiling as they started walking from the air dock as well.

"I finished reading that book by the way." Ruby spoke with a knowing voice, and Weiss smirked gently.

"Oh? How did you like it?"

"It was pretty cool actually." She glanced at Weiss with a smirk as well and the Queen's shared a laugh.

"You know, you could have just told me thats the name you wanted."

"I felt awkward about it! Besides we don't even know the gender yet..." Weiss put a hand on her belly and Ruby shrugged.

"That just means we have to think of a girls name as well just in case right?" Weiss smirked at her wifes words once again but didn't respond... she already had the perfect girls name ready.

"So... which will you be I wonder...?"

She rubbed her belly softly with a smile.

"Our little Argus... or our little Summer?"

One look at her wife again and she shook her head. It didn't matter. The future would be here soon whether they were prepared or not, and as she rested her head on Ruby's shoulder she knew...

"None of it matters... so long as you're by my side."
