15- Time Struggle.
Into the Autobot base there seemed to be an operation in course.
"Sir, Bumblebee and his team are approaching the coordinates." Fixit reported typing in the terminal, making a map of the area to appear on the screen with the Autobots' signals at sight.
"Communications line are safe. Optimus, you are clear to go." Hot Rod said.
"Autobots, the Decepticon communications Blaster intercepted 2 hours ago have revealed suspicious activity. He has tracked the transmission to somewhere in the nearby forests outside Veilstone City."
"According to the map you are almost there." Elita saw.
"I guess we are far enough from human presence to keep in disguise." Moonracer pointed, making them to change to robot form.
The team, composed by Bumblebee, Hot Rod, Moonracer, Smokescreen and Wheeljack, went under a small passage under a mountain to the other side. In that moment…
"Guys, look." Smokescreen pointed to the Tidal Wave passing above them.
"Yeah, I see that too, kid." Wheeljack nodded.
"Optimus, we got news: the Star Seekers have arrived as well." Bumblebee reported.
"So Blaster was right when he supposed the transmission seemed important." Elita said.
"Or important enough to draw Thundertron's attention." Moonracer added.
"Can you confirm if they are following the same trajectory?"
"It seems that way." Wheeljack confirmed as the ship passed above them.
"The long-range scanners have identified a human structure right where they're heading. Blaster thinks it's a military facility." Fixit checked.
"However, the local human military seems to not perform any activity all around that area." Ratchet revised in the Sinnoh information website.
"So that place could be a former secret Team Alien emplacement?"
"It could be, Smokescreen, although we cannot be certain." Optimus said.
"Investigate it to confirm it, but be cautious: the Star Seekers may be ready for an assault and we don't know what defenses the Decepticons may have established. We need to know what they are after." Elita instructed.
"If we are searching through a Team Alien facility, should we call our friends to inspect it deeper once its secured?"
"Not yet, Hot Rod. But they reassured us they will be ready to support in any way they can. For now it's up to us. Good luck." Optimus ended before the communication cut off.
They were about to proceed when…
"Smokescreen, get down!"
Bumblebee managed to grab his pal and get him out of the way of a shot. The rest of team covered following his lead.
"Whoa, that was a close call, Bee." Smokey appreciated.
"That looked like a long-distance shot." Moon recognized.
"It must be a sniper nest. We can flank them through the cover on the left." Wheeljack signaled.
"Moon, look for a proper position and give us cover fire. Take down as many snipers as you can." Bumblebee instructed.
Moonracer climbed to a high place with views of almost all the area while the others moved through the cover. But as they advanced they met some Star Seeker soldiers who attacked them immediately, so they responded as well.
"It wasn't that hard." Smokescreen opined once they disposed of them.
"These looks like a patrol, we'll surely find more." Hot Rod corrected.
They headed for a bridge in front of them.
"Boys, hold on."
"What is it, Moon?" Bee asked by com-link.
"I saw some Star Seekers putting something under that bridge. I think it could be explosives."
And she was right, because some soldiers at the others side detonated them and blew it up. The Autobots covered behind some boulders.
"Moon, can you handle these?"
"Sure thing, Smokey." She nodded, aiming her sniper rifle and shooting them in the head. "As humans would say, said and done."
"Cover us while we go through the path ahead." Bumblebee requested.
Moon checked through her weapon in case of possible enemies while the others moved. They brought down a barrier in their way, so it was okay.
"It seems nobody's home." Wheeljack saw.
"Team Alien surely was in a hurry to abandon this place after our show in Jubilife City, so they took everything they could get." Hot Rod supposed.
"Guys, there's a path down you which I think it leads right to our destination, but I see lots of holes and apertures on the mountain too which surely must be infested with pirate snipers." Moonracer reported joining with them.
"Then we will advance carefully. Moon, cover us from here while we approach." Bumblebee commanded pointing at another way. "Smokescreen, hid between the walls with your phase shifter and catch them by surprise."
"You are starting to get better at leading, Bee." Smokescreen complemented.
While the other three continued the risky way, Smokescreen and Moonracer continued to their positions, taking down two Star Seekers soldiers positioned there.
"Here's where we depart ways. Good luck, beautiful." Smokescreen saluted before disappearing into the wall.
Moon seemed to blush at his comment, but the sound of shots brought her back.
"Need some help, Moon!" Hot Rod called.
Down her was a path where Star Seeker soldiers were firing at the Autobots, forcing Bee and Hot to cover and fire back as possible and Wheeljack to deflect their shots with his swords. She didn't hesitate in taking down everyone she could. She saw Star Seeker soldiers, which turned into helicopters, firing at her from the other side of the passage, but Smokescreen managed to sneak behind them and take them down swiftly. He saluted her before moving.
"Thanks for the help, guys. We're advancing." Bee reported.
The trio didn't advance much before more enemies started to attack them.
"They are coming in much larger groups." Wheeljack noticed.
"And they have brought tanks and heavy soldiers." Hot added.
Of course, after disposing of the ones who attacked from the high positions, Smokescreen and Moonracer assisted them.
"No matter how big or strong they are, they will fall either way if the head is removed." Moon smirked firing at another tank on the head, eliminating him.
"Not bad, but I prefer faster and louder solutions." Wheeljack announced before throwing a grenade at them.
The explosion finish with almost all, and the survivors were disposed off by Moon.
"Okay, path is clear." Smokey announced jumping next to Moonracer.
"Thanks, we will be fine from here. Go to the other side and see other vantage points to provide cover." Bumblebee instructed.
"In case we need it. It doesn't mean we are defenseless." Wheeljack protested before the conversation ended.
"Well, it's seems now it's just the two of us." Smokescreen said.
"How nice." Moon said with a smile as the duo made their way. "Smokey, about what you said before about me, do you mean it?"
"Not the time for conversations, Moon."
A few Star Seeker soldiers emerged from another passage firing at them, so they engaged them in close combat. With the use of the phase shifter and Moon's wrist blades the pirates were no more in no time.
"They seemed to come from there." Smokey recalled.
"So that must lead to their goal. Let's check it out." She nodded starting to move.
"Oh, and to answer your question, yes. Sincerely, not only you look much prettier than Arcee, but I also find your personalty charming as well."
That made Moon blush more.
"Moonracer, have you reach the facility?" Elita called.
"We have encountered some heavy resistance in our way from the Star Seekers."
"We understand. Heavy defense indicate your mission is even more vital than we originally thought. Keep pressing forward." Optimus instructed.
The two Autobots now proceeded to a zone of open caves.
"Smokescreen, watch out." Moon warned.
"Why?"
"There."
Moonracer spotted some flying Star Seekers which were hooking to the walls and using searching sensors to scan the area (snipers from Fall of Cybertron and Rise of the Dark Spark).
"They are guarding the area. I haven't seen them since the fall of Cybertron." Moon shared.
"And what do we do?"
"Think you can overpass them?"
"I got a better idea." Smokey said activating the phase shifter. "How about giving them a target which they can't hit?"
Moon smirked. Next, Smokescreen made his way to the area's exit.
"Autobot elimination in progress." One of the snipers announced before locking target and firing.
Of course, since the phase shifter was on, the shots phased through him like nothing, but that didn't stopped the snipers. Moon took the chance that they were distracted to eliminate them. Smokescreen reached the other side in no time.
"Okay, all clear." Moon announced going with him.
As she was approaching Smokescreen noticed something, turned his hand into one of his guns and fired, taking down another.
"You missed one." He said.
"Glad to know I'm not the only covering backs." She appreciated.
"Guys, we could use a little help here!" Hot Rod called from below, where he, Bumblebee and Wheeljack were engaging more Star Seekers.
"These ones are attacking with missiles. Get down!" Bumblebee warned.
Some Star Seeker soldiers were equipped with portable missiles launchers (thermo rocket cannons) which they placed and fired on their shoulders. The duo provided them cover fire and disposed of them together.
"Hey guys, can you give us a lift?" Wheeljack requested next to an elevator.
"The wheel seems to be clogging the elevator." Moon saw.
"That has easy solution." Smokescreen said firing at it.
Its destruction made the elevator to work, allowing the trio to reunite with them.
"Thanks. You two seem to work quite well together." Hot Rod noticed.
"Some partners are more suitable to work with." Moon answered.
"Let's keep going. And be careful, it could be more waiting for us." Bee warned.
"That's why we're here." A familiar voice called.
Behind them they were joined by Arcee, Sideswipe and Seaspray.
"Optimus thought it would be best if we all gathered before storming in the facility." Seaspray explained.
"There's always room for more." Wheeljack greeted.
"Why the Star Seekers would be so interest in a long-time abandoned human facility?" Sideswipe wondered.
"Because of the same reason the Cons are." Arcee said seeing a familiar emblem on one of the walls.
"Team Alien. So this place belonged to them." Hot Rod said.
"Let's find out why it is so popular recently." Smokey said pointing the entrance.
At the other side, they found an areaway full of Star Seekers patrolling.
"Scrap, there must a dozen squad at minimum." Arcee spotted.
"How are we gonna pass that crowd?" Sideswipe asked.
"Leave it to me. I will hide between the surfaces and watch their moves so you can move safely." Smokescreen suggested.
"Alright. Go ahead and return once you are done." Bee allowed.
"Be careful, Smokey." Moon begged.
Smokescreen activated the phase shifter once again and disappeared under the floor. A couple of minutes passed until he returned.
"I have viewed closely their patterns. Follow my lead and don't make any sound."
Everyone followed Smokescreen, stopping when he told them and continuing when he did. At the end they reached the base's main entrance: it was open, and they could see the Star Seeker leader searching on the base's terminals.
"Thundertron himself?" Hot Rod recognized.
"There must be something really important in there is he has come here." Seaspray deduced.
"I'm going to see it closely." Smokescreen volunteered.
The young Autobot approached the pirate leader silently from behind, but for his own surprise he was hit and grabbed by Starquest, who surprised him from behind as well.
Thundertron turned at him. "Ah, the youngest and latest Autobot. Welcome."
"The Autobots are never alone, so they could be more around. Find his compatriots and bring them to us." Starquest instructed.
"Oh no, you don't." Moonracer said as she was about to intervene.
"Moon wait, we can't reveal our presence." Arcee objected.
"They already know, Arcee. I'm not gonna let him at the mercy of those assassins."
"Moon!" Bee yelled.
Moonracer transformed, drove at full speed and transformed again, jumping above Starquest, kicking him aside and firing at Thundertron, forcing him to look for cover before helping Smokescreen getting back on his feet.
"Are you okay?" She asked concerned.
"Yeah, thanks for the assist, partner." Smokey appreciated.
"Partner, heh? I like how that sounds, perhaps I will ask Elita about assigning us together."
"The other Autobots are right here?! Alert, we have intruders!" Starquest shouted.
That sounded the alarm among all Star Seekers of the area, and the Autobots as well.
"Scrap, our presence has been blown." Sideswipe complained.
"Looks like we have to do this the old fashion way." Seaspray accepted.
"Indeed, we make our stand here." Bumblebee decided.
"I use to prefer that." Wheeljack smirked preparing his swords.
Smokescreen and Moonracer reunited with the others just in time, because all the Star Seeker troops started to gather around them.
"We're surrounded!" Hot Rod saw.
"Everyone, form a defense circle. Do not let any Star Seeker to cross it!" Bumblebee instructed.
The Star Seekers started their attack. Fortunately, the Autobots used the buildings around them as part of their defense circle, where they hid and fired back.
"Troops, destroy the Autobots! Their interference has already bothered me enough." Thundertron ordered in an open channel, probably so the Autobots could hear him as well.
"Test your mettle, pirates! Autobots don't fall so easily." Hot Rod proclaimed.
Because there was a lot of enemies, the Autobots were forced to use their special weapons to repeal the assault: Moonracer stationed herself on top of a tower for a better sniper duty while Smokescreen phased through the surfaces to surprise and confuse the pirates; Wheeljack jumped in middle of a group and used his whip to dispose of all in one move, similar to Arcee from a good position; Seaspray acted like Moon but firing explosive harpoons to enemy groups to scatter them; Bumblebee and Hot Rod simply stood their ground disposing of the enemies at their sight while Sideswipe decided to guard one of the access and ambush the enemies who decided to get too close using his shotgun.
"Sir, the Autobots are too well equipped. We can't get close enough to them to not get shot." One soldier reported.
"Keep insisting. We're still looking for the protected active, we need more time. Send new units to assist you." Thundertron ordered.
In moments other kinds of Star Seekers came to assist the remaining troops: air soldiers, long-ranged soldiers, two-wheelers, commandos, even a few heavy soldiers.
"Now this is getting interesting." Seaspray said.
"I don't see what's interesting about this." Arcee argued.
"Look out! Incoming grenades!" Hot Rod warned.
Some soldiers started throwing grenades at them, forcing them occasionally to abandon their covers and jump out of the explosion radius. One landed next Sideswipe, but the young Autobot simply kicked it back like a soccer ball, making it to surprise the Star Seeker who threw it before it destroyed him instead.
"Nice job, kid." Seaspray complemented.
"That's a good strategy. Everyone listen, if a grenades lands too close, do as Sideswipe." Bee instructed.
"Ha, you call that grenades?" Wheeljack mocked as he pulled out one of his. "This is a grenade."
And he threw it at them, taking down lots of a group.
"Sir, we're taking too many loses." A pirate soldier reported.
"I have enough with these Autobots. Let's see if they can handle this." Thundertron decided.
New adversaries emerged from the base's entrance: Star Seeker tanks, which took positions in vehicle form and started bombing the Autobots' cover.
"They are going to bring this whole place down!" Moon observed feeling the tower shaking.
"Everyone out of here. Abandon the defense circle." Bumblebee ordered.
They left the place dodging the projectiles and explosions. But now they were cornered against a wall with the tanks and other heavy soldiers aiming at them.
"I guess this is the end. I just want to say it has been a pleasure fighting alongside you." Sideswipe confessed.
"If we are going to fall, let's fall fighting." Hot Rod decided.
"I second that thought." Wheeljack supported ready to keep fighting.
But suddenly a few projectiles impacted below some of where the heavy soldiers were, making them fall.
"Did you plan of taking all the fun without me?"
Everyone looked above them and saw the last missing Autobot.
"Warpath, you are a spark safer." Smokescreen greeted.
"About time." Arcee added.
"Getting delayed by some urgent issue on the lab, Ratchet's courtesy." Warpath said before jumping down with them. "Allow me to show it to you all."
Warpath fired some projectiles from his chest cannon, but not to hit directly the tanks, only to break their armor. Next his shoulders opened and two platforms similar to missile launchers emerged, firing some big grenades which landed in middle of the enemies. But what happened next caught the Star Seekers off guard: the grenades floated right at them, exploding once making contact. Warpath stopped once they were all eliminated.
Wheeljack whistled. "That's some trick for some cleanup."
"We should think about including him on the Wreckers." Seaspray added.
"That was so epic." Smokescreen admired.
"What exactly was that?" Arcee asked.
"Ratchet and Blaster's latest upgrade for me: a grenade blossom. It's supposed to be used in outnumbered situations. Once these babies are deployed they seek out the enemy and explode on impact." Warpath detailed.
"Wow, that's some weapon." Sideswipe complemented.
"It also cleaned the path for us. Now let's go for Thundertron, let him give us some answers." Bumblebee reminded.
Everyone returned to the entrance, where Starquest got surprised at seeing them alive.
"What? How they could survive all that?" Starquest asked in disbelief before Warpath tackled him when he tried to get away.
"Going somewhere, pal?" The Autobot tank mocked.
"Now it's your chance to cooperate. What's on this base that Thundertron wants so badly?" Bumblebee demanded.
"As I told you." The Star Seeker answered, right when the doors of the base's inside opened.
"Let it go, Starquest. There's nothing here." Thundertron surprised walking out.
"What? Are you certain, captain?"
"What do you mean with that?" Hot Rod repeated.
"The base is desolated, there's nothing left. I have registered all the rooms upside down and there's nothing. Human or cybertronian." The Star Seeker leader explained peacefully.
"But that doesn't makes sense. The Decepticon transmission pointed here as an interest point. Why will they order all their troops to gather here if there is nothing to find?" Smokescreen debated.
"Unless… said transmission was a decoy." Seaspray suspected.
"So, all this was a trap?" Warpath asked.
"More like a diversion, a false trail to lure us away from their true objective." Bumblebee realized.
"Base, we have discovered something shocking. We believe the message was a false trail."
"We know, Moon. Blaster has been analyzing the base while you were there." Elita revealed.
"I used your life signals to scan the whole area, and it seems to be a simple military factory. Probably used by Team Alien to produce their military equipment for future operations which was shut down when their situation was compromised." Blaster communicated.
"We have new concerning news: it appears the Decepticons are actually on Veilstone City, right on what's supposed to be Team Galactic's HQ." Optimus reported.
"What are they doing there?" Hot Rod asked.
"We don't know, but that could explain this false lead which made us focus our attention on that place."
"According to the authorities' files, Team Galactic were experts in the field of physics and astronomy, especially in astrophysics, theoretical physics and relativity." Ratchet rode in the screen.
"Dawn also told that they attempted to create a new universe by controlling some legendary pokémon they captured or summoned." Wheeljack added.
"So they want to repeat their failed experiment?"
"The Decepticons may not be trying to repeat the same process Team Galactic performed, Sideswipe. But may use the data of it for another purpose. Whatever it is, it cannot be good." Optimus theorized.
"That's why they wanted us to get distracted, so they could learn in peace." Arcee sensed.
"We must get to Veilstone City to see what they are really up to." Bumblebee said.
"Then let's not lose time. Autobots, prepare for immediate transport." Elita instructed.
"We will call our friends in case their intervention is required." Optimus added.
"What do you think was all that about, captain?" Starquest asked confused.
"I don't know, but one thing is clear: the Decepticons have fooled us, and that cannot be tolerated. We are going to make them pay for that. Mobilize all our troops, we are going to the city." Thundertron commanded.
None of them was aware of a proximity sensor placed there discreetly which showed the Decepticons, who were actually where the Autobots suspected, all their movements.
Starscream chuckled. "They fell right into our trick. What a glorious idea you had, Shockblast. Making them to follow a false lead so they could destroy each other."
"Besides that additional objective, it was required in order for me to examine our last discovery." Shockblast said as he was examining some curious blade-shaped objects, with an empty relic container nearby. "It is as I suspected: these blades emanate a peculiar energy. Which energy signal matches with the same one these humans used to experiment with."
"So what it means?"
"It means these relics are designed to alter one particular element: time itself. They could be used to travel through time."
"That seems promising. It can be done?" Xiaxus asked.
"Not by their own, but with the right instrument, it may be possible."
"And which device of this world could be the right one?" Starscream asked.
"There's no human technology capable of such achievement. But one of our greatest creations could be capable to turn such logic into a reality."
"What do you need?" Xiaxus demanded.
"Just bring one specific infrastructure to solid land and make some modifications."
Both Decepticon leaders smirked at each other before Xiaxus looked at Team Galactic's main computer.
"The humans have long suspected that they would bring about their own demise. Today we will prove that suspicion well-founded." Xiaxus said.
"Sorry to interrupt such marvelous moment, but what if the Autobots discover the trick and decides to come ruin our newest plan?" Knock Out reminded entering the room.
"Starscream, let's establish proper defenses for their arrival. Shockblast, keep on your work." Xiaxus organized.
Meanwhile, the three Autobot leaders were waiting a few steps from Team Galactic's former base while the rest of the team was driving at them through Veilstone City.
"I don't understand why did we need to take the long way. It wasn't such bother to simply ground bridging right into those criminals' base?" Sideswipe demanded.
"That's exactly what the Decepticons would have anticipated, soldier." Ultra Magnus argued through com-link.
"The commander's right kid, we would have walked right into another trap." Wheeljack supported.
"The best course of action is a stealthy approach, in order to know what kind of defenses the Decepticons may have establish."
"Optimus, I can't access the buildings' schematics. It seems the Cons are definitely up to something, they are giving me a hard time hacking into its interface." Blaster reported.
"What about our friends? Have you managed to contact them?" Elita asked.
"Already taken care of: Ash, Ritchie, Clemont, May and Iris have volunteered to assist us. I will report once they arrive."
"Looks like we also have a visit." Magnus reported looking at the sky.
Immediately, Thundertron landed in front of them after changing to robot form.
"Looks like you were waiting for someone to start, but it wasn't us." The Star Seeker leader suspected looking at them as some of his soldiers joined him.
"Why have you come, Thundertron?" Elita demanded as she and the others aimed their weapons at him.
"The same as you, figuring out why the Cons are up to while they delayed both of us. I know we don't agree on everything, but I swear to you that our fight, for now, is with our common enemy. I already instructed my troops to not engage yours, we have already received enough pain."
At hearing his words, Optimus retrieved his guns. "Are you suggesting a truce between your forces and the Autobots?"
"Right now I want to empty my rage on the ones who fooled us. If you want to join us in crushing our foes, you're welcome."
"Fair enough. We also want to know why they employed such smart strategy."
"Optimus, we're here." Bumblebee announced as the team transformed at reaching them.
"What are these guys doing here? Did they follow us?" Smokescreen asked seeing the Star Seekers next to their leaders as he, Sideswipe, Wheeljack and Warpath pulled out their weapons.
"Soldiers, hold your fire. The Star Seekers have come to an agreement with us. Only temporary." Ultra Magnus stopped looking at Thundertron.
"For real?" Arcee asked in disbelief.
"After what we have went through?" Moon added.
"On this moment we share common goals, so we have agreed on a ceasefire until we dealt with the Decepticons." Optimus explained.
"They have settled this whole mess, we have to discover why." Elita added.
"Well, then what are we waiting for?" Warpath simply said approaching the door of the base's garage.
"Please Autobot, allow a professional to show you how is done." Starquest volunteered opening the door with just his hands.
"Surprise!" A Vehicon surprised once the door was open, hitting Starquest on the shoulder, taking him down.
There was a whole platoon of Vehicons firing from the inside, protecting the entrance. The Autobots were forced to cover themselves while the Star Seekers engaged them while Thundertron dragged Starquest to safety. But because a pair of heavy soldiers were using weapons similar to Warpath's gatling gun they were having a hard time.
"Thundertron, order your troops to retreat." Optimus suggested.
"Then how will we go inside?"
"I will handle this." He said pulling out a small device from the back of his waist.
Thundertron understood Optimus was up to something so he signaled his troops to fall back. Then, Optimus activated the device, turning into a metallic shield which covered all his front and used it to advance toward the Decepticons.
"Elita, Magnus, to my sides." Optimus instructed. "Warpath, cover fire."
Because the shots were repelled by Optimus's shield, the Vehicons decided to flank him as he got closer, but that's when they discovered too late that Elita and Ultra Magnus protected him in these areas, taking them down with their heavy guns. Aside that, the shield seemed to be absorbing the shots' energy, since it was radiating an aura of energy. Next, Optimus hit the ground with the shield, unleashing a shock wave of energy which took down most of the Decepticons. At the same time, Warpath covered them in vehicle form firing at the heavy soldiers with his cannon, taking them down after a few impacts. The remaining Decepticon soldiers were two couple of tanks equipped with energy shields similar to the one Optimus employed and some war hammers at hand for close combat, but before they went to hit Optimus's shield with them the other Autobots joined the act, attacking from the sides fast and agile to surprise them: Arcee and Sideswipe took down one with their melee weapons, the same as Wheeljack and Hot Rod with another; Smokescreen used his secret weapon to phase through another tank, confusing him and shooting him down from behind, while Warpath simply charged against the last one, pushing him hard to send him against the wall before grabbing him by the feet and smash him against the ground multiple times until he was completely broken.
"Not bad, for a small team of Autobots." Thundertron admitted. "Remind me to not underestimate you again."
"Yeah right." Wheeljack answered sarcastically.
"It cannot be just these ones."
"You are right, Bumblebee. The Decepticons surely will have deployed their heaviest defenses around the most precious part of the base. Wherever they may be right now." Optimus nodded.
"We may have no other choice but to charge with a direct assault." Ultra Magnus said.
"We know how to make a great entrance. Think you can keep going, Starquest?"
I'm fine, captain. A simple scratch is not enough to take me out of the fight."
"Hey buddy, up to see who takes down more Cons like the old times?" Wheeljack suggested to Seaspray, who laughed.
"Oh, you got that right." And they fist pump.
Warpath forced the door to open it with his hands, this time being him the one in front with his cannon ready, just in case. But it wasn't necessary, there wasn't any Decepticon left waiting for them, so they advanced swiftly. Once they reached their inner part of the base, they found the ceiling partially open, probably the Decepticons' undoing, but what surprised them was what stood in the center of the area.
"Is that...the Cons' space bridge?" Sideswipe recognized, seeing some Vehicons working on some of its parts, while Starscream stood on top of it.
"What are they doing to it?" Moonracer asked, seeing some cables connected to the base's network.
"Are they turbo charging it with the base's power source?" Seaspray suggested.
In that moment, they spotted Xiaxus looking at them calmed, like if he was expecting them, while Shockblast was working on a terminal in front of the bridge's entrance.
"You think so small. It's a time bridge." Xiaxus revealed.
"A what?!" Hot Rod asked in disbelief.
"I think I have gotten my audio receptors plugged. Did he just say time bridge, not space bridge?" Ratchet asked through com-link.
"Totally as you say, old friend." Optimus confirmed.
"But that's impossible. No matter how huge a space bridge's reach can be, there's no way it can allow travel through time." Fixit argued.
"Not by itself, but thanks to the research of the humans from Team Galactic and a little help from the ancients, we now possess the means to achieve space-time manipulation, as they once attempted to." Xiaxus explained.
Optimus zoomed his eyes to some parts of the bridge altered by the Decepticons and spotted the same weird swords inserted on different parts of the structure.
Optimus witnessed his eyes. "No. Autobots, the Decepticons are using the Blades of Time to turn their space bridge into a time bridge."
"The Blades of Time? What are those, another mystical weapon?" Hot Rod asked.
"Vector Prime's artifact. Not designed as a weapon, but as an instrument: it's said the blades were depicted more as a mandala or an hourglass, through which Vector could focus his space-time powers."
"Who knows what catastrophic harm they could inflict with such power." Ratchet expressed.
"And we intend to use that power to bring back all our fallen comrades to our time, so we may once again have our lost might." Xiaxus declared.
"You want to bring back all your forces from the past?" Thundertron repeated in shock. "I will not allow it, Decepticons, not while I stand functional."
"If you wish to join the Allspark sooner, as you wish. Decepticons, defend the time bridge! Do not let the Autobots or Star Seekers to approach it!" Starscream commanded.
"Star Seekers, let's make them pay for playing with our fates!" Thundertron called.
Most of the Decepticons engaged with the Star Seekers while Starquest fought against Shatter. Thundertron faced Dropkick.
"Never fought a member of the DIS before. I heard you were pretty tough." The Star Seeker leader proclaimed pulling out two swords instead of just one.
"I will make you regret leaving the safety of your ship, pirate scum." Dropkick challenged preparing his own blades.
And they two rumbled together. Axer assisted the Star Seeker air soldiers against the ones of the Decepticons, until Starscream tackled him in vehicle mode.
"You and I have a pending account, deserter." Starscream snarled.
"Arg, up for a race, commander?" Axer answered.
The Decepticon air commander chased after the former Seeker. Optimus tried to reach the time bridge with his jet-pack, but Xiaxus intercepted him flying with his own and tackled him, sending him back to the ground, where both clashed his double scythe and axes again. The rest of the Autobots didn't manage to advance much, since a whole line of Decepticon heavy soldiers stood between them and the bridge.
"Scrap, talking about security level." Seaspray joked.
Shockblast continued typing on the terminal until he pressed a button, which started the bridge. At the moment, the blades shinned with an aura which flowed into the structure. Shockblast saw lots of cybertronian letters and numbers in the terminal.
"Xiaxus, the blades are interacting with the structure, it's canalizing the energy into the vortex generator. It will be ready to open a hole in the space-time in no time." Shockblast communicated him while he was still confronting Prime, who used his shield to block the scythe.
"Good. Once you see it's ready open a portal."
"I just need to make the proper calculations to choose the proper time destination, which will require time."
"We will buy you as much as you need."
"No!" Optimus yelled, pushing him aside with the shield, but Xiaxus used his scythe to hook the shield and spin him around to continue the fight.
Back with Team Prime…
"Blaster, we require assist. Can you bridge us closer to the time bridge? We are cornered here." Elita requested.
"I'm sorry to report this, but it seems the time bridge is getting functional. I don't know why but it seems to unable me to aim anywhere next to it, like if it there is some kind of force interfering."
"It must be the blades, they are starting manipulate time." Ratchet deduced.
"So we have no other choice but to try to approach by ourselves." Bumblebee supposed.
"By the way, I've already sent the backup. They should be there with you." Blaster added.
"Guys."
Everyone looked to where Ash's called them, standing next to a door with the other volunteers.
"Ash, you guys couldn't arrive in a most needed time." Hot Rod saluted firing back. "The Decepticons are blocking our way in order to prevent us from reaching their time bridge."
"What? Time bridge?" Clemont asked surprised.
"How they managed to use Team Galactic's tech to do that?" May asked.
"They didn't. They're using another relic of the Primes." Arcee answered.
"Smokescreen, time to employ the ghost technique." Iris pronounced.
Smokescreen nodded. "You got it, partner. Everyone aboard."
"What do you intent to?" Warpath asked as they saw all the humans and their pokémon climbing to Smokescreen's shoulders.
He turned on the phase shifter. "Pass enemy lines like a ghost."
And they went through the walls.
"Never fails." Moon said with a smile.
"Do you think he will mind if if borrow his little trinket sometime?" Sideswipe wondered.
"They will require support either way. Let's try a diversion." Bumblebee suggested.
"I support that choice. Soldier, you have permission to employ your biggest explosive device to hasten our progress." Ultra Magnus told to Wheeljack.
"With pleasure, sir."
Wheeljack prepared two pair of grenades and sent them rolling below the Decepticons once they were activated. The explosion was huge enough to wipe out all of them.
"The explosion has opened us a passage. Move out!" Magnus commanded.
The team proceeded with their approach, but they only reached half the way when suddenly more shots forced them to stop for shelter again. However, this time their attackers decided to face them personally. Ultra Magnus was tackled by the Insecticon Kickback, who kicked him aside.
"You Autobots are such slow learners, right? It seems once again we will have to put you in your place." Kickback mocked from a higher platform.
"Why don't you get down here and say that again?" Ultra Magnus defied.
Kickback laughed. "I will stand here where I maintain the advantage over you, you, you."
And Kickback unleashed another storm of laser shots from his back legs, forcing Magnus to cover and return fire once he could. Elita stopped heading for the bridge when a Decepticon leaper landed in front of her and prepared to use his claws on her, but she dodged in the last second and used her own swords to block her attacker. Host emerged from the ground before changing to robot form, facing Wheeljack in close combat once again, alongside Seaspray this time as another Insecticon bruiser was getting ready to charge at them from behind, until Sideswipe started riding on it. Hardshell charged against the Autobots, until Warpath hit him on his bug face with both his hammers, forcing him to return to robot form. Arcee and Moonracer tried an alternative route through a narrow hall, but two female Decepticons blocked their way.
"Arcee, long time no see you."
"Roadkill." Arcee snarled. "Guess the kids were right when they mentioned you and Stinger were back."
"Who's the Con which comes with her?" Moon noticed.
"Oh, you seem to not know our newest recruit. I present you to Nightbird."
"These are the enemy?" Nightbird asked curious.
"Yeah, the ones who instead of fighting for glory choose to stand alongside the weak natives of this world."
"We just protect them from that tyranny of yours." Moon defended.
"Then I guess that makes you my enemies as well." Nitghbird proclaimed activating a battle mask which covered her mouth, like the scarfs used by the ninjas.
And the female Decepticons engaged the Autobot girls, Arcee against Roadkill and Moonracer versus Nightbird. Bumblebee and Hot Rod spotted all their teammates in trouble. Hot Rod also noticed Optimus was having a tough time with Xiaxus.
"You guys keep up, we got you covered here." Warpath shouted grabbing Hardshell's fists attempting to push him back.
"Bee, go with Smokey and the kids, I will assist Optimus." Hot Rod told him.
"Okay."
Speaking of Smokescreen, he and the gang passed through the last wall, reaching almost the time bridge.
"End of the ride." Smokescreen announced, making everyone to get down off him.
"Okay, what's the plan?" May asked.
"Simple." Bee announced meeting with them. "We need to sabotage the time bridge however we can."
"Hum, maybe it will be enough to simply remove the relic which they're using to alter space-time."
"That's what I was thinking about, Clemont." Ratchet said through com-link. "It appears the Decepticons have inserted the Blades of Time into the space bridge from different angles."
"It is possible than the remove of a single blade will be enough to destabilize the bridge's energy core and cause it to overload, but I can't be sure if that would happen. So summarized, as much blades you remove from the structure the better."
"Thanks Blaster, we will take care." Ash acknowledged.
"We will draw the Decepticons' attention by causing it as much damage as we can. Take advantage and sneak around the structure." Bumblebee instructed.
"We will have to split and deal with one blade by our own."
As Ritchie suggested, the group divided and went to search each of the blades while the two Autobots started to fire at the most exposed parts of the bridge to damage it. Of course their plan worked, so well that Smokescreen was kicked and sent against a wall.
"Well well, we meet again, Bumblebee." A familiar voice saluted.
As he checked his buddy, Bee looked to where the familiar voice came and recognized it. "Stinger."
"Oh, and it seems what Knock Out said about you is true. You have your voice back, although I must admit it doesn't impress me."
"You should have stayed in the space wandering aimlessly, at least that way you would remained alive."
"And missing the chance for our long waited rematch? Not in a million years. So Bumblebee, let's dance."
The two scouts rumbled, fighting with close combat techniques and boxing moves, but Stinger managed to counter all the moves Bumblebee performed, as he was built for. But when Smokescreen came to assist him, Stinger was surprised when he received a similar hit he gave the young Autobot.
"I heard that you had a spectacular encounter with Bee, but I guess you never engaged a member of the Elite Guard." Smokescreen challenged.
"Ha, as if matters. Just another opponent to test my skills." Stinger answered grabbing his fists to try to push him back.
"I wonder what materials humans used to build you. Never have wonder ever seeing how you were born, Stinky?"
"What?! How do you dare play with my name?!"
Bumblebee took the chance to punch him backwards. "Looks like you hit a soft spot."
Meanwhile, the gang split in five teams: Ash, Pikachu, Greninja and Sceptile went for one of the blades inserted on a high part of the time bridge; Blaziken took May and Wartortle to another; Dragonite took Iris and Fraxure to the blade inserted on top of the bridge; Ritchie, Sparky and Espy focused on one of the right part near the floor and Clemont went to take care of the last one of the left side with Luxray and Heliolisk. Once there, everyone tried their best to pull the blades out of the structure, but it was a tough effort since the blades were considerable big and seemed to be firmly nailed. And to make things worse, Stinger spotted them.
"Shockblast, it seems the Autobots' allies want to ruin your newest creation." The Decepticon scout reported by com-link.
Shockblast stopped his undoing and took a fast look to the bridge.
"A brave effort, but of unfitting results. Such illogical strategy." Shockblast proclaimed before using his com-link. "Insecticons, remove the humans from the bridge's surface."
Optimus was still engaging Xiaxus, but he wasn't doing well, specially when he used his scythe to grab him by the shield to hit him from another angle. In the end, he managed to take it from him. He was about to strike again when suddenly he received shots from behind, revealing to be Hot Rod. For his surprise, Xiaxus spun his scythe to deflect the shots, but allowed Optimus to recover and give him a punch on the face.
"A most welcome assistance, Hot Rod."
"Anytime, Optimus."
Back with the gang, they still tried to pull out the blades when they heard a familiar screech and a buzzing sound.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu shouted.
"Oh no." Ash spotted.
"What is it?" Ritchie asked.
"Bugs!" Clemont yelled.
"Thank goodness Misty didn't come at the end." May recalled.
The Insecticons swarmed them so fast that the ones on higher places were forced to jump back with the rest. Once there they gathered to repel the swarm with their pokémon's assist: Pikachu and Sparky launched their electric attacks while Espy tried to catch some bugs using Psychic and paralyze them so Fraxure could hit them with Dragon Rage; Wartortle hide into its shell before Blaziken launched it to the Insecticons like a ball, hitting them with Rapid Spin, assisted by him engaging the bugs with Blaze Kick and Sky Uppercut, the same as Greninja with Cut and Water Shuriken, Sceptile with a combination of Quick Attack and Leaf Blade and Dragonite with Thunder Punch and Dragon Rush; while Luxray and Heliolisk used Electric Terrain and Parabolic Charge to hit as much as they could. But despite taking down lots of bugs, there was too many that ended being surrounded.
"Guys, no!" Bee yelled seeing their situation.
"Haha, looks like you are incapable of doing anything for them now." Stinger mocked.
The situation looked bad for the gang, until suddenly an energy beam, mostly a Flash Cannon, eliminated most of them. As the Insecticons seemed distracted by their comrades' demise, a loud roar was heard, making some of the fighters to stop and turn to see what it was: in middle of the air above the whole building stood floating a huge recognizable pokémon.
"Woah, it's Dialga." Ash recognized.
"It looks magnificent!" Iris expressed with amazed eyes.
"Did it saved us?" Clemont asked.
"It looks that way." May confirmed.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu called loud.
Dialga looked at Pikachu, and seemed to remember them because it nodded before landing in front of them.
"Guys, we have extra reinforcements!" Iris announced by her Pokétch.
"What? I'm not registering any additional Autobot life signals."
"No Ratchet, it's Dialga. A legendary pokémon has helped us against the Insecticons." Ash corrected.
"You mean the strongest pokémon which inhabits your world?" Fixit recalled.
"What is it doing there?" Ratchet asked.
"It is possible the time bridge's energy may have drawn its attention."
"You may be right, Blaster. Dialga is supposed to be the pokémon who rules over time, so maybe it's sensing the time bridge is interfering with it." Clemont theorized.
"If that's the case, it could help us." May suggested.
"Don't worry, it will. We know it for a previous time, as Pikachu has shown." Ash said before turning at the immense pokémon. "Dialga listen, that huge machine is the one which is messing time. We are trying to stop it but we require help."
The legendary pokémon seemed to understand what Ash said, because it took off and started to hit the time bridge with its body very hard. That was witnessed by Starscream and Axer, some of the ones who stopped to see it.
"Ha, looks like that thing doesn't like your trinket as well." Axer mocked, which made Starscream to wack him aside.
"Decepticons, take that beast out of the time bridge!"
The Insecticons shrieked in fury before firing their weapons, but Dialga surprised them with an energy shield which covered it. Still deploying the shield, Dialga ran over the Insecticons, crushing them and scattering the survivors. Next he rose above all of them and launched a rain of projectiles with Draco Meteor which impacted on everyone of them.
"It seems the only way to handle such beast is to make it confront another." Shockblast deduced before pressing some buttons on his wrist terminal.
From below him, the gang was cheering Dialga. Until…
"Dialga, watch out!" Iris shouted.
As Dialga was charging the spine of its back to release its signature move, he was tackled by the Predacon Skylynx, being sent to the floor. After standing up, a fire blast hit it from a side, revealing to be Ser-Ket's doing, joined by Darksteel, who prepared to launch another shot. But Dialga saw this coming and deflected it with its shield, this also protected it when Skylynx attempted to tackle it again, and next doing it to him.
"Hey, three against one is not fair!" Iris shouted, although they couldn't hear her.
"Guys, we have a problem: Dialga is been forced to engage the Predacons. It's up to us again." Ash reported.
"And the time bridge seems to be getting ready to open a time portal in any moment." Clemont added seeing how the time bridge started to glow with energy.
"Then we may not have another choice giving the current circumstances. Ash, you must destroy the Blades of Time."
"What?!" Everyone exclaimed at the same time, surprised by their leader's decision.
"Optimus, are you certain? It is a memory from your predecessors." Elita reminded.
"I'm sure Vector Prime would have prefer that than allowing them to be used for such sinister purpose." He answered before giving Xiaxus a head-butt.
"It will work?" Ritchie questioned.
"I think Optimus has made an obvious point. If the blades are destroyed while still attached to the space bridge, either it shuts down or it will overload to the point of causing its destruction. Whatever choice it's worth for us." Ratchet analyzed.
"Then we better get hurry before it's too late." Ash declared.
"In case someone manages to destroy theirs, come to assist the others."
"Good idea, Ritchie." May agreed.
"And then let's give Dialga an assist." Iris added before they moved out.
The legendary pokémon was having a hard time because of the Predacons, having now Skylynx its neck grabbed with his jaws, trying to summit it. Ser-Ket was preparing to launch more fire, but Dialga saw this coming and just in the precise moment it turned, making the Predacon to receive the impact, which made him to release it from his grab. Now Dialga was the one who grabbed the Predacon by his tail, swung him around and released him, sending him against his partner. Dialga spotted Darksteel charging at it from a distance, so it simply stood firm while it charged its spine and the gem of its chest illuminated. Once the Predacon was about to jump at it, Dialga surprised him with its most powerful attack: Roar of Time. Darksteel had no time to react and received the beam right on his chest, ending against a wall and laying on the floor badly hurt, leaving two Predacons more for Dialga to deal with, until Skylynx went to check how his brother was. Back to the time bridge, each human and their pokémon returned back to where each blade was.
"Okay guys, now it's up to you. Employ all your strength. Pikachu, use Thunderbolt. Greninja, use Water Shuriken. And Sceptile, Solar Beam at full power." Ash instructed.
"Sparky, Thunder Shock at your maximum strength. And Espy, Psybeam." Ritchie told them.
"Blaziken, Wartortle, I know we are not in a contest but try a combination of Overheat and Water Gun." May said.
"Guys, let's try to break it with Thunder Fang and Dragon Tail." Clemont told his pokémon.
"Destroy that blade with Outrage and Ice Beam." Iris commanded.
The kids' pokémon attacked the blades simultaneously, trying their best to neutralize them. At first it seemed like it wasn't doing nothing, but Ash looked closely and saw there was a hole in the middle of the blade's structure, and an idea came to his mind: he grabbed a metal bar nearby and inserted it on the hole.
"Guys, there's a hole in the blades, it must be some kind of weak point! Grab a bar of metal and placed into it. You will guess what to do next!" Ash communicated.
His friends followed his advice and did the same as him. At the same time, Dialga charged its special attack again, this time without distractions and launched it, hitting a part of the time bridge. The hit's impact was so huge that the structure shook. Shockblast also noticed on his terminal it also caused the energy levels to decline, delaying the process he was working on.
"The time bridge has received a strong impact. Part of the vital areas of the structure has been exposed." He alerted seeing the part now leaking some sparks and with many broken parts. He changed one of his hands for his shock cannon and was going to aim to the gang with it, but Smokescreen jumped above him and kicked him on the back of his head.
"Didn't learn not to bully the smaller ones?" Smokescreen mocked.
"Enough interlopers!" Shockblast declared mad pulling out his sword on his free hand and trying to hit him with it.
Thundertron also noticed the bridge's damage after kicking Dropkick aside. "That's seems like the bridge's weak point. All troops, concentrate your fire on the affected parts!"
"I'm going for it!" Axer said.
"No!" Starscream said intercepting him, pushing him against a wall.
"I didn't remember you having the guts to face problems like this, commander."
"I'm full of surprises!"
Starscream surprised him with a fast kick on the chest, making Axer to fall to his knees in pain.
"You shouldn't have deserted my Seeker armada when you made your choice. Now you will pay the price." Starscream declared, preparing a missile to execute him.
However, he looked back at Dialga, preparing to launch another Roar of Time at the time bridge, so Starscream reacted first firing the missile in front of the pokémon, making the missile to received the attack instead, causing the explosion to surprise Dialga. Also, the cloud of smoke allowed Ser-Ket to bring down Dialga and push it against the ground. Next, the female Predacon attempted to bite the pokémon's head with her jaws or her tail, but Dialga managed to dodge each strike as he prepared its counterattack: it surprised Ser-Ket with a Flash Cannon, making her to retreat backwards and taking the chance to put some distance in the air. Ser-Ket chased it, firing fire blasts which it dodged or blocked by using its shield. Skylynx was about to attack from another side, so it simply waited for them to be close enough and flew aside in the last moment, making both Predacons to clash each other and fall. Meanwhile, the others followed Ash's idea and did the same, inserting a metal bar into the hole of the blades. Next, the pokémon concentrated their attacks on those points. After some hits, the blades started to crack, meaning the strategy was working, so they also joined by forcing the bars to make the cracks bigger. After another strike, the blades shattered in pieces, which also made some holes in the bridge's structure from which some streams of energy escaped out of control. That also was causing the whole structure to shake and crack everywhere.
"Whoa, look." Sideswipe pointed after being brought down by the Insecticon.
"The time bridge looks unstable." Ultra Magnus observed.
"The kids made it." Arcee sensed.
"Looks to me that thing is getting ready to blow." Wheeljack deduced.
"Everyone, fall back." Elita ordered, as she and everyone stopped fighting their opponents, transformed and headed for the exit. "Optimus, the kids have made it, the time bridge is out of control."
"I see it, Elita. It's over Xiaxus."
The Decepticon leader's face got shocked at the image. "NOOOOO!"
Hot Rod took the chance to kick him. "You're done now."
Optimus pulled out his gatling gun and fired a burst of laser shots which impact on the terminal Shockblast was using, leaving it useless. Smokescreen took the chance to left while he went to check the last readings.
"Attention, the time bridge lectures have come off the board. The energy leaks are no doubt product of its current overload. The collapsing structure will result on its inevitable destruction." Shockblast reported.
"Then it seems it's time for us to take our leave." Kickback suggested while he and others went to assist Xiaxus.
"I agree with you, bug. All units, put as much distance from the time bridge as you can!" Starscream commanded.
All the Decepticons, Insecticons and Predacons transformed and left the place. The Star Seekers saw that as well.
"It seems we are done here. Everyone, time to leave!" Thundertron commanded.
And the Star Seekers left as well.
"Guys, come on!" Smokescreen called trying to reach the gang, but the energy currents prevented him from approach them.
"Smokey, don't! Those currents look pretty harmful!" Iris warned.
One current was heading for them, but for their surprise Dialga stood in front of them and covered them with its shield. Next, it looked at them while he crouched part of its body.
"It seems it wants us to ride on him." Ritchie deduced.
"That's our way out." May followed.
"Don't worry for us, Smokescreen! We'll get away with Dialga! Tell Optimus!" Ash communicated him.
Smokey wasn't full convinced, but he trusted them, so he transformed and went with Team Prime. After retrieving their pokémon, the five kids climbed onto Dialga's back and it took off.
"I can't believe we are going to do this!" Clemont said nervous.
Once putting enough distance, Dialga charged its spine again, enlighten its gem and fired another Roar of Time at the time bridge, causing a huge explosion which consumed the whole structure. As the base was being consumed by the flames, the legendary pokémon flew out of there as fast as he could. Finally they were safe.
"This is so incredible." Iris expressed at the fact that they were ridding on a legendary pokémon, and a dragon type.
Then Optimus approached flying next to them. Dialga groaned at him defensively.
"No Dialga, rest assure. Optimus is our friend, he's from the good guys." Ritchie reassured him.
Optimus offered them his hand, allowing them to pass to him. Pikachu and Sparky jumped from Dialga's head to Optimus after saying it goodbye. The legendary pokémon nodded at them before disappearing into a portal.
"Where did it go?" Iris wondered.
"He went back home." Clemont deduced.
"And so we are." Optimus added changing course.
Thudertron, Axer and Starquest returned to the Tidal Wave. Despite their great loses when battling the Autobots, the Star Seekers received their superiors with joy and excitement, as if they were celebrating.
"Comrades, today we have achieved an important victory against the Decepticons. We have showed them what we possess the same resources to stand against them, and that they can be defeated." Thundertron announced proud.
"Hey, now that I realize, the others haven't participated in the battle." Axer mentioned.
"Yeah, where Sandstorm, Brimstone and Cannonball have been?" Starquest asked.
"We're sorry, captain." Brimstone apologized entering the bridge with the other two. "We have been busy."
"Of course, if you told us there was a battle going on I would have joined." Sandstorm defended.
"Where have you been?" Thundertron demanded.
"We were tracking a suspicious energy signal. It wasn't like anything we detected before so we went to investigate." Brimstone started.
"And you are not going to believe what we found." Cannonball said as he showed something covered with seaweed. "We found it buried at the bottom of the ocean. We have never seen anything like this before."
Thundertron took it, cleaned the remaining mud and seaweed from it and got speechless when he saw what it was: some huge purple sword, emanating a sinister aura.
"I don't know what it is, but it seems we have hit a mother lode." He smirked, admiring their new acquisition.
Meanwhile, in New Iacon, the team returned home.
"Welcome back, everyone. How was it? Did you recorded everything that happened?"
"Easy Fixit, we will tell everything once we settle down." May promised.
"I still can't believe I managed to ride on one of the most powerful and important pokémon ever existed." Iris shared.
"Wait until we tell the others." Ritchie added.
"We also are fortunate that pokémon came to assist us in a very needed moment." Ultra Magnus added.
"It seems even legendary pokémon know in which side we are." Sideswipe said.
"On the other hand, the end of a relic from the Thirteen is no doubt a significant loss. To believe such singular device is been sent to oblivion." Ratchet lamented.
"I know it hurts, old friend. For me to sacrifice a part of the legacy of my predecessors is a personal loss. However, we may have averted a huge catastrophe by denying the Decepticons from playing with an important force of the universe.
