The sound of tearing flesh and cloth was swallowed by the sounds of the city, leaving only the wet gurgles of the dying man to echo through the empty alleyway.
"Shut up, you miserable excuse for a man," sneered the young man, his voice filled with hate and disgust.
The older man looked up at his attacker with a mixture of sadness, confusion, and fear, as if he wanted to ask why. But it was too late for questions.
The young man breathed heavily as he cleaned the blood from his weapon of choice, a sharp kitchen knife, used for slicing meat. He took care not to cut himself on the blade as he wiped it down.
He gazed upon the body of the stranger, his blood spreading out in a dark pool around his neck and chest. The man was nothing more than an opportunity, a random older gentleman lured in by the young man's deceptive appearance. He had done nothing to deserve his fate.
The young man's phone buzzed in his pocket, accompanied by a soft melody. He answered it, irritation in his voice.
"What do you want, Misato?"
…
"Are you on your way back now? It's getting late."
…
"Yeah, I'm on my way. I'll see you soon."
Click
The Shinji ended the call and looked back down at the dead body, a sneer of disgust curling his lip.
…
"Pathetic old man."

Misato Katsuragi's Apartment
9:42 PM
"I'm home."
Called out Shinji, his voice echoing down the entry hall. He took off his shoes and left them on the rack, following Japanese customs.
Walking down the hallway and into the kitchen he saw Misato sitting at the table, beer in hand, taking sips.
"Welcome back. How was your little adventure?
She asked teasingly, dragging her finger around the rim of her beer can.
"It was okay, A bit chilly today though."
He made his way over past the table and to the fridge, where he got himself a can of soda.
He took a sip of the cold drink, relishing the taste as it washed down his throat. The caffeine and sugar hit his system, helping to calm his nerves and bring him back to reality. He leaned against the counter and tried to act as casual as possible.
She mustn't even catch wind of anything going wrong with him.
"How was your day, Misato?" he asked, making small talk.
"Oh, you know, the usual work stuff."
She replied with a shrug.
"But enough about that, tell me about your adventure. Where did you go?"
He froze up for the quickest fraction of a second before snapping back to his normal composure.
"I just went for a walk around the city."
He said, hoping she would buy it.
"I needed to clear my head and get some fresh air."
Misato gave him a skeptical look, but let it go.
"Alright, if you say so. But don't stay out too late next time, okay? It's dangerous out there. I don't want to send Section 2 to go look for you."
He gave a weak chuckle.
"Yeah I know."
He soon finished up drinking his soda, and tossed it in the recycling bin, with it making a clunk as it went in.
He let out a long yawn and shook his head, trying to shake the sudden wave of exhaustion. It appears that the adrenaline wore out…
"Tired huh? Go head to bed, you have school tomorrow. Also… I'd avoid talking to Asuka, she's mad you didn't cook tonight."
Scratching the back of his head, he smiled awkwardly.
"Yeah I guess I should… Well goodnight Misato."
"Goodnight Shinji"
She replied, giving him a small wave.
Shinji's Room
He laid awake, staring at the ceiling, many thoughts and emotions rushing throughout his mind.
But not one of them was regret.
No… Not a single ounce of regret floated in there. He took in the rush of pleasure of killing those men. They all deserved it anyways. He didn't know their lives, nor did he even care, he just knew they needed to die.
On his desk beside him was a small box. A simple yet carved box. Inside it was his trusty and beloved knife, that he carried around in a small sheath everywhere now.
He made sure to keep it out of sight though, he didn't want to get expelled.
But these men were nothing but worms for him. Cattle for the slaughterhouse. They meant nothing to him.
No…
He was just practicing.
For his real target.
"I'll kill you…"
…
"Father."
I've had this idea for a very long time now, but never had the chance to work on it. Also this is set before Magma Diver, in case anyone was wondering.
This fic will not be a happy one, nor will it be lighthearted.
Stay tuned for the first actual chapter.
