A/n: Happy Day 3 of Mimato Week! So for this new fic, as the summary states, I'll just post random disconnected oneshots set in totally different AUs from the canon series. Today's prompt is my favourite, aka Hogwarts AU! I've been wanting to write one since the event's crossover prompt last year, and I was finally able to do my headcanons a little bit of justice.

A little bit of background: Yamato has graduated Hogwarts and is working at the Ministry of Magic, Mimi has just finished her last year at Hogwarts.

And check back on this story a few hours later for a surprise!

1. Reunion at King's Cross

- x -

Yamato stood in the dead centre of Diagon Alley with a confused expression clouding his face. When he had left the Ministry, he had a clear plan in his mind, he would pick up a simple gift and make his way to King's Cross in no time. Yet, he hadn't considered just what he wanted the gift to be, and now standing in the middle of two lanes crowded with stores of all kinds, he felt slightly overwhelmed about making this decision. He was not good at picking gifts, or that's what people around him always told him, and the deep sighs his younger brother let out at every Christmas while opening the present from Yamato was something that was ingrained in his head.

But still, it was important for him to not show up at the station empty handed, it was the least Mimi deserved after all.

He thought about getting her flowers, that was something he was sure would bring a smile to her face, she loved simple gestures like these more than anything. However, his heart couldn't settle on something so easy, especially now that he was making a good earning on his own, he wanted to show her how much more reliable he had gotten since he graduated school. So Yamato continued to stand in the middle of the lane as he turned his head here and there hoping to catch a clue for something that would be perfectly suited for Mimi, earning some colourful remarks from the wizards and witches that passed him by for blocking the street in the process.

He wondered if he couldn't decide on something because of all the time that had passed since he had last interacted with Mimi in any way. She was in her final year at Hogwarts so just when her N.E. were around the corner, the two had decided to take a break from writing letters to each other so she could focus on her studies and pass the exams with a good score. And when was the last time he had seen her in person? At Christmas Eve, almost six months ago, when she had accompanied him to the dinner thrown by his Department and had stayed the night so they could exchange presents in the morning. Which reminded him of her reaction over the gift he had chosen, and made Yamato conclude that this was why he was second-guessing himself today.

"You pick gifts based on how useful they would be to a person, but Yama you're supposed to pick it based on how happy it would make the person receiving it." Mimi had laughed as she had ran her hands over the thick roll of parchments, along with the new bottles of ink he had gotten her. He had thought that an extra supply of study materials would make for a good gift since the N.E.W.Ts were coming up but she had found it very funny that he'd pick school stationery for a Christmas gift and laughed about how it was such a Yamato thing to do all day.

Her statement seemed hypocritical to him, because she looked happy packing the parchment and ink into her luggage and she spent the whole day laughing about it so hadn't Yamato accomplished what she wanted him to? He had been a little too drunk on Firewhiskey that day to ask her this question and they had other important things to take care of the next day, but now that he was back in the position of picking a gift for her, his mind kept going back to the conversation from that night. Maybe if they had managed to keep in touch more recently, he might've been able to subtly get hints from her about what she'd like as a graduation present, but the only way he had known that she was doing well and studying hard was through letters Takeru had sent him these past two months.

He was completely taken aback, when he reached home after a long day at work last week and a very typically Hogwarts owl was waiting at his doorstep with a letter. At first he thought the letter was from Takeru but when his eyes fell on the handwriting, he rushed himself inside so he could tear open the letter and read it with bated breath.

Dear Yama,

How are you?

Honestly, I'm writing to you after so long that I don't know where to begin.

I did well on my N.E.W.Ts, that's a good place to start right? I mean, I think I did well on my N.E.W.Ts, we won't know until the results come out of course.

Not that I have any clue what I'm going to do with my results. I wrote to both Daily Prophet and Witch's Weekly asking for the standard N.E.W.T score they accepted for hiring someone and I'm yet to hear back. I'm just a little bit worried about what I'm going to do when school finishes, but Misty's been telling me to enjoy the freedom till the results come out and I suppose that doesn't sound so bad?

If I don't hear back from either of the publishing houses, then there is always some menial Ministry job I could do with decent scores right? I'm sure you would know more about this than I do!

For some time just before the exams started, I was so worried.

About everything.

We've spent so much of our lives here at Hogwarts that it's daunting to imagine not coming back here for another school year, I don't know how you lot managed to pull it off, but I've been losing sleep thinking about moving on from here because how does one move on from a place one considers home?

Anyway, I'm rambling, oh my first letter to you in months and all I can think about is scribbling down these depressing thoughts.

In a way however, I think you are the only one I can be completely truthful about these things with. I wanted to tell Misty, but it's her turn to graduate next and I didn't want her to start her last year with this looming over her head. So I bottled it all in and now that I finally have a chance, I can't help but spill my guts to you.

Ah, I just said I'm rambling and then kept going at it regardless, I'll stop with this talk for now. Got to save something to eat your head with when I get back right?

Now onto the reason why I decided to jot down this letter to you.

I don't think I can wait another second to see you, so would you mind picking me up at King's Cross? I already told my parents that they needn't bother, so even if I've posed this as a question, you're not really allowed to say no!

Can't wait to see you on 30th June.

Yours,

Mimi

PS: Takeru told me you wrote to him every week to check up on me, what a worrywart you are and just a little bit obsessed I'd say.

Yamato wasn't proud of how he'd tripped on his feet as he had rushed to write down his reply telling her he'd be there, and then almost considered sending a Howler to Takeru for not being able to keep quiet about a simple task he had assigned to him. But reading and then re-reading Mimi's letter in the subsequent days had made it clear to Yamato that he couldn't just show up empty handed at the station. She was going to bid goodbye to a big part of her life, like he and his friends had last year, and it wasn't exactly an easy to thing to do, so a gesture from his end would certainly perk up her mood as she began her final summer break and waited for her results or a job offer to come by.

He checked the time on his wrist watch and realised that he'd spent too much time just standing around aimlessly, he had to buy something and do it fast, if he wanted to be at the platform before the Hogwarts Express arrived. He gave it a final consideration and decided that he would buy Mimi something that would be of use to her in the near future, or at least inspire her enough to keep on chasing her dreams. She would definitely laugh at his choice, but then she was the one who told him that gifts were supposed to make the receiver happy, and making her happy was something Yamato always managed to do.

He made his way towards Amanuensis Quills, which was next to Madam Malkin's and almost changed his mind about getting Mimi the latest dress robe that was displayed at the latter's show window, shaking his head at the thought because he knew that she was very picky about her clothes and breaking into an argument was not what he had in mind for today. Once inside the Quill Maker's comparably smaller store, Yamato directly asked for an enchanted, self-writing quill, preferably one in pink. The Quill Maker informed him that he was in luck because his latest piece which had just been released today was a beautiful shade of pink quartz, and indeed when Yamato's eyes fell on the shining quill resting on top of red velvet cloth inside a mahogany box, he knew that there was no better gift for Mimi. He was quick with his purchase and even quicker with getting out of Diagon Alley, walking around the London streets for a while before he found a florist and purchased a bouquet of lilies.

Yamato chose to take the tube till King's Cross, solely because it was easy. He couldn't help but smile when he remembered how aghast Tyson had looked the day before when he mentioned this plan at lunch. He didn't struggle with Muggle technology as much as most of his friends did. His mother had always stayed close to her non-magic roots and taken every opportunity to teach him and Takeru about the simple yet fascinating world of people who went about their daily lives without any magic to boot. Which made it easier for him to blend in on days like this, had he been inside the train with any of his friends, he'd be in for at least one public apology over an embarrassing incident.

He made it to the wall between Platform Nine and Ten without any hiccups, the task of getting onto Nine and Three Quarters was what made Yamato more nervous than riding the underground among muggles. His mind would always get stuck up on all the muggles who crowded the two platforms and he'd think about what went on in their minds as they noticed people running towards this stone pillar. Especially today he'd definitely look like a madman to anyone, with a bouquet of lilies in one hand and a wooden box in another, and that thought was enough to make his ears go pink as he observed his surroundings and waited for the right time to get through to the wall and onto Platform Nine and Three Quarters.

Once on the other side, the blond breathed a sigh of relief but his reprise only lasted for a minute as the sound of the train's engine getting ready to screech to a halt could be heard. And soon enough, the train came into view and as it began to get closer to the platform, Yamato felt his heartbeat pick up pace, his clutch around the bouquet tightening on its own.

After months of being apart, he was finally going to see Mimi.

And not just see her, he'd get to hold her, run his hands through her silky caramel hair, grasp her soft hands into his own, get a taste of her lips and breathe in her scent…

As he had expected, the steam engine screeched loudly and came to a definitive halt, jolting Yamato out of his fantasy and making him focus on the scene in front of him. Student after student poured out of the train, rushing towards their family members, more and more people appeared from beyond the stone wall and hustled around the platform. He cursed himself for spacing out at such a crucial moment, because the crowd had very easily pushed him back and now he had to navigate through the sea of heads bobbing around him and find Mimi.

Not that it had ever been difficult for him to spot her in a crowd, from the very first day she had walked into the Great Hall as a First Year, she had caught his eye, and even now among the swarm of students that took over the platform, Yamato only needed a minute to locate her, his face breaking into a natural grin as he noticed her turning her head here and there, possibly looking for him.

Yamato moved across the platform avoiding Mimi's line of sight, in just a few moments he had sneaked up behind her and when he snaked his arms around her waist, in typical Mimi fashion her eyes first fell on the presents in his hands and then she let out a squeal loud enough to alert everyone around them. Hearing the happiness in her voice ignited his own excitement over finally being able to see her, hear her, touch her. He kissed the back of her head and took in the sweet scent of her peach shampoo that he didn't know he had started missing until the intoxicating whiff hit him. The couple stood still for a moment, just taking each other's presence, their hearts at peace knowing that they had just overcome possibly the most difficult phase of their relationship. Realising that Mimi must be getting more curious about her present, Yamato chuckled softly before he slowly unwrapped his arms from around her and allowed her to turn on her heels so the two could finally look at each other.

The minute their eyes met, the whole world seemed to come to a stop. Suddenly Yamato could no longer feel the rush of the platform around him, all that he could see was how beautiful Mimi looked smiling up at him and all that he could hear was the loud thumping of his heart as she didn't hesitate to stand on her toes and land a peck on his cheek. Her breath tingled against his neck when she lowered herself and rested her forehead against his chest and Yamato felt a shiver run down his whole body, he had been away from her for far too long.

"Hey." She muttered as a content sigh escaped her lips.

"Hey." He answered back, resting his hand on top of her head, patting it softly.

"Can I guess what's in the box?"

Yamato's grin got wider, he could always count on Mimi to be herself no matter the time they'd spent apart, "Of course."

"Let's see." She lifted her head up from his shoulders and leaned backwards, allowing him to see her face more clearly as a calculative look settled on it, "It has to be something I'd make good use of. Oh, perhaps a Time Turner so I can go back and retake my N.E. if I fail miserably?"

Yamato snorted at her guess, "Sure, because if I had the kind of clearance required to get my hands on a Time Turner, I would totally give it up to someone else."

"Now, now, is that any way to speak to your girlfriend, who you haven't seen in months?"

Yamato squeezed her frame gently with his arms before he lowered his forehead against hers, happy to see her face turn red and breath hitch at the sudden lack of space of between them, "Oh please do tell Meems, just how should I be speaking instead?"

It was a wonder that nothing around them caught fire with the way the sparks flew from between them, the understanding that they were still on the platform surrounded by children and parents alike seemed to fade slowly from their minds as neither hesitated to lean closer until their lips were just inches apart.

"I think you should start by not speaking at all."

And just as Mimi finished her sentence, Yamato crashed his lips against her and with all the strength he could muster pulled her closer towards himself, pressing his arms against her waist tightly, with the lilies sticking to her back. It was impossible for them to care about who they were surrounded by or where they stood, all that mattered in the moment was that they were finally together.

Yamato could taste the candy Mimi must've munched on during the journey and on any other day he despised the overpowering sweetness of it, but today he felt like if there was one way to enjoy eating candy, it was tasting it through Mimi. When her fingers found their way through his hair, leaving behind a trail of electrifying sensations across the nape of his neck, Yamato inhaled sharply, not only did he not want to stop, he wanted more. He wanted to push her against the train and get rid of all the robes that were keeping her perfect curves away from his grasp. He wanted to pick her up and make her straddle her legs across his waist just so he could push all of himself into her, getting rid of any distance that might try and keep them apart.

But alas, they were standing in the middle of a train station crowded with school children, and eventually they needed to come up for air.

Both Yamato and Mimi took some time to collect their breath, he saw that her face was flushed pink even as she glared at two students who stood staring at them and shooed them away with just a fierce look, making him chuckle lightly.

"Can I open my present?" Mimi asked the second she had composed herself, eyeing the box in his hand eagerly.

"Sure." Yamato first handed over the flowers, a little embarrassed that the bouquet was not as perky as it had been when he first purchased thanks to him treating it so roughly these past few minutes. But Mimi smiled with delight when she accepted it anyway, tucking it under her arms, she put both her palms forward and he obliged, placing the mahogany box in her hands with great care.

Mimi was quick to untie the lone ribbon that had been put around the box, and when she finally opened the lid, she let out a loud and highly audible gasp, lifting one hand to trace the Quill resting inside the box.

"Oh Yama, this is absolutely stunning. Thank you so much!" She cried out, eyes shining with tears almost threatening to fall.

"You're welcome, it was the least I could do."

"I have a present for you too, you know." She said, blinking back her tears and facing him with a mischievous grin, which led Yamato to raise his eyebrows in suspicion.

With a little laugh and a loud ta-da, she stepped aside and pointed to the two large and very heavy looking trunks that had been lying behind her on the platform all this while, but Yamato had been to preoccupied to notice.

Yamato groaned and rolled his eyes at her unsaid request, but still moved forward to pick up a trunk with each hand, "So this is the real reason you invited me here today."

"Isn't this what boyfriends are for?" She teased him as they began to walk away from the train, Yamato trailing behind as he dragged the two trunks filled with 7 years worth of junk that Mimi had collected.

"Wait till we get to your room, then I'll show you what boyfriends really are for."

A/n: Let me know what you thought of this, and if there's some other Hogwarts related scene you would want to read between the two, I'll be more than happy to try my hand at it.

For tomorrow, we have a Bridgerton/Regency Era AU coming up so stay tuned :)
