A/N: So this marks the end of season one, I am debating on whether to break this story up into parts and make them separate or keep them all together. IDK let me know in the reviews. I will separate them into parts. It has 5 seasons so it has 5 parts. I'm gonna start work on Episode 1 in Season Two which I want to add to the first part because it was meant to be on the first season per production. Chuck was almost canceled and then brought back because they needed something in the timeslot. Season two and three are my favorites so we are getting to where I wanna be. ANYHO! should I split the story into different stories? or keep it together. LMK- S.K.

Never can say Goodbye

Emma was panicking she had to get to Regina. She walked toward Ruby, she needed a cover "We need to talk. It's an emergency." She said.

But Ruby stopped her misunderstanding. "Oh, listen, no, hey, hey, hey,". Emma turned to face her friend. "Emma, it's okay, girl, I know about you and Regina." The blonde's eyebrows shot up in question. "Like how she's more than just your girlfriend."

Before she could respond, her phone rang, and Awesome was in the line.

Emma reached an arm out and placed it on the brunette's forearm. "Ruby, stay." She said before answering the call.

"But I…"

"Sta... stay!" Emma said and put her phone to her face. "Hello?"

"After careful consideration of all potential proposals," Fred said in greeting, "I have made a decision."

Emma's heart started hammering. He couldn't be ready yet! She hadn't found the ring. "Oh, let me guess: Naked 2K run?" She said sheepishly.

"Dinner, Emma." Fred corrected. "A romantic, candlelit dinner, just the two of us."

Shit, that's perfect. She thought.

"The coup de grâce…" Fred continued. "molten lava cake with a two-carat diamond ring filling."

Fuck me…. "Wow, Kathryn will really love that." She sighed knowing that she was probably never going to see her sister or Fred again. She never wanted to cry more. Not since their mom left. "Look, Fred, just- just promise me that you'll take care of my sister if anything were to happen."

"What's gonna happen?" He asked then remembered his plan. "Oh, hey, cake hits the oven in two hours. Don't be late." Then he hangs up. And Emma is now conscious of everything she is about to lose.

"What am I gonna do?" She whispered to herself.

"Do nothing," Ruby said from behind her. "You haven't given Regina the ring yet. Dude, there's plenty of time to call this whole thing off."

Emma furrowed her brows and then came to the realization that Ruby knew about her sister's ring. "Regina? Ring?" She questioned her friend.

"Yeah, the ring you got Regina."Ruby answered, "The one I kind of took out of your locker."

Emma turned to her friend and grabbed her blue polo. "You mean... the ring that Awesome got for Kathryn?"

Ruby breathed out in relief. "Oh, thank God, man. Are you kidding?

I thought I lost you, girl!"

Emma shook the babbling brunette. "Ruby... where is the ring?"

Ruby blanched at the seriousness in her friend's features. "It's kind of complicated but…" Emma lightly smacked Ruby to snap her to the point. The tall brunette paused in shock then responded "It's in the freezer at the Cheesecake Factory. I put it in Marco's marlin and I…" Emma immediately turned to go to the restaurant. "I was gonna put it back…Ow!"

It was that weird in-between time when the restaurant was closed for the dinner rush. There was hardly anyone in the kitchen only to prep chefs shopping up and Regina was nowhere to be seen. Emma made a turn near the kitchen by the freezers and she saw the Marlon they're broken in half on the floor.

"No…" Emma whispered. "No, no!

No, no, no, no, no." She sank down searching the pieces. The ring was gone. Then she heard a knocking in the distance. "Help! Hello?"

"Regina?" Emma said and headed in that direction.

Regina sighed in relief to see Emma. "Lizzie's the mole." She said, "She got the receiver, Emma."

"Oh, my God, Regina, it's over," Emma said falling into a pit of despair that Regina couldn't afford her to fall into. "They're gonna stick me in some tiny cell with no windows."

"Okay, Emma, I need you to focus," Regina said sternly on the other side of the freezer door. "We can get Lizzie if you can get me out of here."

This gets Emma's attention. "How?"

"I keep a backup piece in the jar of horseradish sauce." The spy, said, signaling behind the blonde.

"Horseradish?" Emma says disgustedly, "eww, just why?"

"Emma!"

"Got it. Right." Emma said, "Hide it someplace nobody would look-" She looked around, and spotted the horseradish. she reached for the jar and emptied it out. The gun fell out onto the floor. She picked it up and held it awkwardly showing it to Regina as if that was all she needed to do to get her out of the freezer. "I got it. Okay."

"Okay, now shoot the lock." The agent stated.

"Um, look, Regina," Emma stated, nervously, "I've never really fired a gun before, okay? And I've actually done this on purpose to avoid any unpleasant side effects like shooting myself or others." Emma said all in one breath.

"Just shoot the lock or I will shoot you when I get out of here!" Regina growled

Emma gasped, "Okay." She took a deep breath and aimed. "Get back. Ready? Ready? Get back."

Breathe.

"One…"

A little prayer.

"Two…"

Emma closed her eyes, held her breath, and pulled the trigger. It didn't fire.

Regina looked out of the freezer window and said, "Take the safety off first."

and I looked at the gun and expelled the magazine instead of taking off the safety.

"One, one sec.. just a little problem."

Before Emma could pick up the magazine, the cop that was in the store came out from behind the door. He had a gun pointed at her like she was a criminal. "Swan, Marco told me I'd find you here." Emma stood quickly and raised her hands, gun and all. "Drop the gun, Swan! Now!"

"No, no, no, no need to shoot," Emma said, trying to explain the situation. "It's not my gun, it's not my gun- my girlfriend is locked in the freezer, and if you let her out she can explain everything."

Conway rolled his eyes and escorted Emma out. "Okay, let's go."

"She's right…" Emma tried.

"Come on, move." Conway insisted.

"Okay, okay." the blonde relented. "Just look in... "

"Nice try."

Emma was frantic, "Just look in the freezer. She's right there." She had it out into the dining room. " Aren't you supposed to take this kind of seriously? What kind of cop are you?"

Conway brought her into an unmarked car. He had handcuffed her and he was driving. when finally, he made the call. "Got the package, HQ. This is Long Shore."

Emma immediately flashed after hearing that name. She asked surprised, and looked to the man in the front seat. "You're not a cop." This was when Emma knew she was on her way to a padded cell.

Detective Conway is on his way to the extraction point. They'd decided to transfer her to lockdown immediately.

Emma cleared her throat, and finally spoke, "So... this is it, huh?" Emma swallowed. "Going to get my own padded cell?" She said, "Do I get a bed, or is my whole room kind of like a bed?"

"It's not as bad as it sounds," Conway said

"The underground complex where you will be living has state-of-the-art security and amenities," he said as if it were really a choice. "You'll even be allowed outside to visit controlled locations."

"Hold on." Emma stalled, "I-I... I can't leave without telling Kathryn something, a reason for going. What should I say?"

"Nothing," Conway shrugged. "It's safer for them if you just... disappear."

Emma sighed and struggled a bit to free herself from the cuff.

When they arrived at the helipad building Conway got out the radio one more time. "Asset is ready for extraction. Send in the chopper."

They walked to the extraction point. Emma's heart was heavy. She didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to Regina. She got that Kathryn, Fred, and Ruby had to think she was dead, but Regina knew where she was going.

She just had a need for someone, anyone to know where she was disappearing to. She wanted someone to know how to rescue her. "Long Shore!" Emma heard from behind. She turned, it was Regina. She knew Regina would save her. She smiled and looked back at Conway.

"Is there a problem, Agent Mills?"

"Regina, thank God you're here. Listen, I-I don't…" Emma stated in relief. "I don't want to go yet. I…"

Regina "It's okay, Emma. Agent Blaize is tracking the FULCRUM mole." Then she turned to look at the agent. "She should have her in custody soon, so we can hold off on the Emma transfer for the time being."

"If there was a change in the operation, I would have been contacted. I have my orders." Conway stated, looking at her phone screen.

"We don't have to do this. This is a judgment call Okay?" Regina said moving closer to the platform. "We can just hold Emma here until we know for sure."

"Her cover was blown. She's gone." He said taking Emma's elbow

"No. I will take full responsibility." Regina stated. "Emma is my asset; she's my… person ." Regina reached the two. "Just... Just give us more time, please."

Conway faltered and turned to look at Emma.

She nodded, "I'd appreciate it. I really would."

Regina shook her head moving a hand behind her. "Please don't do this."

"Okay," Conway nodded and put his gun away. "You've got one minute."

One minute. That was it. The blonde turned to her handler as the brunette approached her. "I'm not ready, Regina. I'm not ready to disappear."

"No. I know," the brunette reassured her.

Emma shook her head and reached for Regina's hands. "I need you to talk to Kathryn and to Ruby and my friends, and-and- and-and tell 'em…" She paused. "I don't know. I… Look, if I'm supposed to be dead, just say something that will make it okay, that will make 'em feel all right. Just make sure they know how much I love 'em."Emma sobbed and covered her face. "You can do that, right?" She inhaled a deep breath and looked up at the sky. She needed to get this out. "Course you can. You're Regina. You can do anything…" The blonde laughed to herself and shrugged looking up at sad brown eyes. "And, hey, there's a silver lining to this, too, you know, 'cause we're not working together anymore, which means, we can go on a date… You can come by my cell, and we can hang out, and you can tell me who the president is…And maybe, uh... maybe we can see how we really feel."

Regina chuckled and squeezed her hand. "Time's up." Conway cut in.

"Goodbye, Regina," Emma said another sob bubbling up, as she could see Regina's heartbreak. It wasn't obvious, not to most, but Emma had become a student of those brown eyes. She literally had a Ph.D. on them. She turned away and followed the agent.

"Emma?" Regina shouted behind her. The blonde turned to the agent "I'll save you later."

Emma smiled and turned back to Conway as she approached him, the agent was shot in the head."Oh!" Emma said as she caught the man's body in her arms.

Regina ran to the asset "Emma, get down!" She pulled out her gun but it was shot out of her hand. The person was an expert shot. Obviously, they weren't aiming to kill. Regina instead concentrated on getting Emma to safety. "Go, go, go!"

They hid behind the AC unit on a lower level. The evil agent Lizzie the pita girl began her villain dialogue. Emma frowned, thinking that was some movie shit. "I listened to the receiver."

"She knows," Regina whispered and Emma nodded.

"Do you know how many agents are looking for Bryce Larkin?" Lizzie said a bit smugly. "And all this time, the Intersect was here. Wait until my superiors find out."

Regina frowned and looked toward chatty Cathy. She was obviously not that great an agent if she hadn't called for backup. If it were her she would have alerted her superiors as to the location of the intersect the moment she discovered it. She signaled to the other side of the area. It would put a little distance between them and Lizzy.

"Okay, look," Emma said once they were safely away from Lizzy. "What if I surrender, and you run? I mean, I'm going in a cell what's the difference?"

"Torture," Regina answered.

"Okay, no surrender," Emma whispered back as the villain began to talk again.

"I only have one question, Emma," Lizzy said and paused in a clearing where the two hiding women could see her. She raised the hand with the gun, and let the diamond in her hand glitter in the dim light. "Who's the ring for?"

Emma gasped and looked at Regina. "She has Kathryn's engagement ring?"

Regina got up on her haunches, she'd had enough hiding. "Try to distract her." She said and took off running.

Green eyes widened. "What?! How?" She stood looking around.

Then Lizzy spotted her. Emma ran as fast as she could and climbed up the stairs. If she wasn't fleeing for her life she would have laughed at the silly white girl in a horror film thing she was doing. But this was real life, and that psycho had a real gun.

"Emma, I'm not gonna go away," Lizzie said, chasing her outside.

Emma stopped running at the top of the stairs. Realizing that maybe she was not about to get shot. She didn't want to be tortured, but Regina would save her.

"Okay... okay, look, look, look." She said nervously. "You really... Do you really want to take me in? You're going to have to sweeten the deal a little bit for me." She walked up to the platform for the Helicopter. They were still coming for her, she figured that maybe she would get lucky and the CIA would get here before Lizzie got a hold of her. "Hey, hey, hey, hey. Uh, look. Look, the CIA- they're offering me a nice padded cell, real you beat that?" She shrugs. "I'm a girl who enjoys a... a good steam. Can you do maybe a steam room or something?"

Lizzie walked up on that platform, gun pointed squarely at Emma, not watching her back at all. Not really wondering where Regina has gone. Made Emma wonder if she indeed had some backup that she hadn't mentioned. "I don't think you're really in a position to bargain, Emma," Lizzy said. Emma tried not to react as she saw Regina emerge behind her. She just continued to back off and listened as the villain continued. "I have two guns… What do you have?"

"Me," Regina said just after jumping her to attempt to disarm. The fight began. And Emma winced as Regina slammed Lizzie's hand against the floor over and over again.

"Don't break the ring," Emma said with another wince. Then both Regina and Lizzie were back on their feet. Hand to hand… or more like leg-to-leg combat ensued. "Whoa!" Emma said completely distracted by the fighting women. Regina teetered at the edge of the building and Emma reached out in vain as Regina had moved the fight far out of the blonde's range.

"Hey!" Blaize said finally getting to the platform. "Swan, get out of the way." She said moving Emma baudily off the platform.

"There's really some serious spy fighting going on," Emma said attempting to look back at the women.

"Get down, Swan," Mal said pulling her down to her knees.

Emma turned to look at the fighting women. Regina was fierce. They both were. In one swift kick, Lizzy knocked Regina back. Teetering off the edge, Regina grabbed the other women and they both fell. "Regina!" Emma shouted and ran to the edge where the women had fallen.

The two of them had fallen into a dumpster. The fall wasn't long, and the garbage broke their fall. "I had a feeling that girl was dirty," Mal said watching as Regina turned and punched the other woman unconscious.

Emma nodded and extended her arms toward her so that she could remove the zip ties from her wrist.

Emma spent the night in that same dumpster. Searching for Kathryn's ring. But she wasn't alone, Regina looked at her. Though she didn't look very happy about it. "Are you, uh…" She started then gagged at the smell. "Are you sure? Are you sure that Lizzie didn't have the ring on her?"

Regina shifted some trash and glared at Emma. "When they took her away, all she had was the receiver."

Emma looked around desperately. "Oh, then it's got to be here somewhere." She bent down to search another area.

"You know, Emma," Regina said standing up straight. "If we can't find it, we can just replace it."

The blonde shook her head. "Look, look, look, it was Awesome's great-granny's ring, and it's going to be my sister's, okay?" Then she looked around trying not to gag again. "Even if it's covered in coffee grounds and miscellaneous DNA."

She dropped to her knees once more for a deep dive. Dumpster diving is not for the weak. Then she spotted something shiny among some spoiling rice. She reached in gagging the entire time but then she touched it. And shouted in delight. "I found it!" She put it on her finger to make sure it wasn't going anywhere in her excitement. "Let's go."

The duo rushed back to the apartment. Emma climbed into her bedroom window and the beautiful ring gleamed on her right hand. She cleaned it as best she could and headed out of the bedroom. She walked toward Fred who seemed a little sad, and a sleeping Kathryn on his lap. She took a deep breath. "I'm so sorry... but it might be a little dirty."

Fred smiled at his sister-in-law-to-be and took the ring she handed him. "Way to go, Emma. I always knew you could handle my family jewels." Emma frowned. "So to speak."

Emma smiled and stepped back fully aware that she smelled like a garbage barge. "Uh, when she's sleeping really hard like that, sometimes, if you pinch her nose, it'll wake…" Fred looked at Emma, and in that moment she knew he had this under control. She had to let him take care of her, because at any moment… she could be gone. "Right. I'm going to…" She signaled to the door and stepped outside. Regina was waiting outside the door, and Emma breathed a sigh of relief. "Mission accomplished."

Regina smiled back. "I can't believe we pulled it off."

"That'll make one hell of a story at their wedding," Emma stated. Regina looked at her with a frown. "Which I'm never allowed to talk about under fear of death- understood." She amended. "I have other material."

Regina turned toward the window then back to Emma."You want to?"

Emma was startled, "What, spy?" She nodded. "You?" Regina smirked and moved toward the window. The women watched as the most perfect couple either of them had ever known became engaged to be married. "She looks so happy," Emma whispered.

Regina nodded. "Yeah, she does."

"I couldn't leave them yet," Emma whispered staring through the window.

Regina sighed and placed a hand on Emma's lower back. "You don't have to worry about that. You're safe."

Emma nodded "Yeah, safe for now, though. Right." Emma shrugged and turned away from the window. "I mean... they keep getting closer. Eventually, they're going to figure out who I am."

Regina interrupted that train of thought. It was not productive. "Don't you think you should go in and congratulate Kathryn?"

"You want to come in with me?"

Regina hesitated. She really did want to go. These people were friends. Becoming like family in such a short time she had known them. But she couldn't allow the integration. There needed to be a boundary. "Oh, it's family time."

Emma nodded in understanding. "I know."

The brunette paused again, hoping that Emma would insist. She wanted to be invited in, regardless of what she had said. Instead, she opted to whisper, "Well, good night."

Emma nodded and walked back to the apartment. She smiled as she saw their jubilation. "Hey!"

Outside, Mal and Regina watched the happy family "We can't keep him here for much longer, you know that right?" Mal asked. "The clock is ticking." Regina nodded and the two agents left to prepare for the next phase.
