BNHA: Dual Fates
Chapter 70: Friends for Life!
It's been a couple of days since Haru's birthday. The clean-up crew at the site where the robots fought, finally removed all of the pieces and the robots. U.A. Approved the cybergirl's request after the Osmium cannon was drained of all potential threats, for it sat up on a high prop against her wall on display.
As Uviel got ready, a subtle ding from her phone indicated that she received a text. From her screen when her device was taken out of her back pocket, the text she read came from Eijiro and was enough to make a smile grow. The message was in all caps, with cute, excited emojis next to his words that said- UVIEL! AREN'T YOU EXCITED?! I'M ALL READY TO GO! SUMMER TRAINING CAMP IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER! I HOPE YOU'RE PACKED! More giggles escaped her upper-black lips when her fingers raced across the digital keys and replied.
Yes! I... I won't be able to swim if we get to go to the beach or anything, because of my cybernetics, but I'll bring my game devices so we can play together! It's a shame I missed out on the endurance training at the school's pool yesterday. Anyway- my costume is packed and I put in some extra pairs of clothes. Do you want me to bring some snacks? Her message was sent with a click of a button, along with cheerful emojis and a game controller icon next to them.
After a moment, in all caps, came another message from her boyfriend as she hurriedly sped down the hall to the kitchen. YES, I LOVE YOUR SNACKS! His reply really made her morning a little brighter and loved how summer vacation finally started.
"Do you need some help?" Edgeshot who was all dressed to go about his hero business, adjusted one his gloves and watched her drag suitcases across the floor.
"N- no! Thanks, though!" Quickly the suitcases were propped up onto their wheels and pried open her fridge door to rummage through some food. Next, her cupboard opened to take out some chips and sodas, however, a careful hand patted her shoulder to gain her attention.
"I wouldn't recommend bringing any junk food. This is a training camp- anything that will slow you down won't help you make any progress. Junk food will prevent you from conserving stamina," From his side he lifted two grocery bags full of healthy snacks and drinks, which he did his best to stow away into one of her large suitcases. "There, do you have everything?" Satisfied, with his hands on his hips and a kind smile behind his mask, he questioned his daughter.
"Y- Yeah, thank you. Don't worry, Dad. I'll call you when I get there," Her reassuring smile soothed what unease he might have had, for she heard him sigh and chuckle.
"Alright- be safe then and don't stay glued to any of the boys... I spoke to Yukimura about the rules and such. While I was at it, I even offered her to be my intern so that both of you could continue to stay close. Not to mention, I think it would be better if she gained some mental strength from my training, I told her we could begin after summer vaca-" Before he could finish, he received a large hug from his daughter and watched her hurry back to her suitcases.
"T- Thanks, that means a lot to me. I'll ask her about the rules on our way to meet up with Eijiro, I-... I love you," Even though he was her dad now, it was a tiny bit awkward to say it, nonetheless she wanted to let him know she did love him for being her dad and supporting her. Hoisting the cases with both arms, the door she made her way towards was opened with a flick of Edgeshot's quirk.
He watched her give him a grin before leaving the house and once she did, the door was shut. His lingering stare was proof of how much he was going to miss having her around, adopting her was something he did not regret in the least.
~~~~Uviel~~~~
"So, because we're training to be heroes, we have to avoid rest?" Curious, sapphire hues peeked at the brunette who was followed along by Hitoshi. Three pairs of shoes echoed across the sidewalk and their luggage was being dragged by the wheels.
"Yeah! Heroes don't get rest, because... Well, that'd be kind of illogical right? Heroes will always get attacked by villains at the most random times. I think that's why this training camp is a thing," Giggles could be heard when the snake girl grinned, her blind gaze remained focused on their environment while she fiddled with the ring on her finger. She too rolled a suitcase behind her, as did her boyfriend who helped her with the rest of it.
"I won't be able to go with you, but, call me often when you can I'd like to know about your experiences," Hitoshi gave his girl a glance to see her fiddle happily with the promise ring and didn't even try to hold back his grin. It made him happy to see her so eager to hold onto it as if to say she wasn't going to let go of their promise.
"Sure thing! Thanks for helping me with my suitcases," The brunette felt rather affectionate when she leaned her head onto his shoulder and nuzzled. She could sense the faintest skip in his heartbeat that he was a little shy and smiled, especially the change in tone after he answered.
"No problem, you looked like you needed it," Rubbing the back of his neck, averting his gaze to his feet, he did his best to hide the embarrassed tints on his cheeks.
"H- Har-Har, Eijiro's just ahead. I'm going to catch up with him to let you t- two say your goodbyes in private," Hesitant, a little bonk from her head onto her best friend's arm indicated her goodbye before she sprinted at the best of her ability, with those suitcases in her hands.
"Alright!" Cheerfully Haru waved with her free hand and continued to talk on their way to U.A's gate.
Meanwhile, Kirishima heard the speedy footsteps behind him and turned to look over his shoulder, just to step aside, so his girlfriend could walk with him. "Hey! Hahahaha, you look a little over-packed. Let me help you, I didn't bring much so let me carry one," A true gentleman, Eijiro was, as he leaned over with his free hand and grasped one of the handles to her many suitcases. "So, did you bring a console or a gaming device? What games did you bring?!" The boy was so excited to hang out with her during free time at the summer camp, for her competitive nature in video games was something he admired.
"I- I brought Flash Bang, Riot Wars, Ninja's Sprint, Samurai's Oath, Jungle Survival, and a few more! My Dad kept me from bringing along any unhealthy snacks and drinks, so he stuffed one of my suitcases full of healthy ones," It was hot outside, her uniform's jacket was put into one of the suitcases way earlier in the morning and the red tie over her chest followed the soft gust. The disappointment was noticeable on her pouting lips but was quickly replaced with a faint smile from how considerate her Dad was.
"He's such a nice guy! I wouldn't have wanted any junk food either, not if we are training! Thanks, Uviel!" A quick kiss was planted onto her cheek after he leaned into her side, he knew his affection received a reaction when he saw her face light up.
"N- No problem... Anyway, I see the others. It looks like they're all lined up in front of Mr. Aizawa, let's go," It was hard not to feel elated about the idea of going out, a camp to be exact, and hurried past the darker redhead.
"H- Hey," Chuckles emitted from his throat while he raced after her, this time he wanted to see who would get there first. Closer and closer to the gate, they became, given the fact that Uviel was weighed down by suitcases save for the one he had, it would have been a tie. He noticed how the cybergirl panted a little and stopped at the gate, however, he was a foot away from her. "Haha, I won!" The second he let go of her suitcase his fist pumped high into the air and received a disappointed groan from the girl.
"Nice... N- Next time, I'll win for sure," It wasn't very upsetting that she lost, but it was a little discouraging. Nonetheless, she moved on and followed behind Eijiro. A couple of buses were lined up in front of the school, so when her best friend and Hitoshi caught up they all stood with the rest of the class.
Of course, Hitoshi stashed away Haru's belongings in their bus's storage, he stood on the sidelines and watched the whole display of excited students. Uviel ended up needing help stuffing her suitcases into the storage, Kirishima's assistance was very appreciated, and not long they returned with the rest of their class.
"U.A. High has finished its first semester and started summer vacation. However... Those of you trying to be heroes will not receive days of rest. At this summer camp, we'll have you aiming towards greater heights- for Plus-Ultra!" Aizawa's explanation earned him a 'Yes, sir' in unison, which he nodded to himself and moved toward their bus.
As Uraraka ran to Midoriya, Uviel wandered to Eijiro who stood next to Bakugo, and pulled out her game device. "Um... B- Bakugo... Do you play?" Awkwardly her hand pulled out a 3DS and stepped closer to her boyfriend, in hopes of reducing any rage outbursts from the blonde.
"Sometimes! Why the hell would-" When his scary gaze met her averted shy ones, he felt himself sink into a small pit of guilt and quickly moved his attention to the buses.
"I... Thought it'd be fun if... Eijiro and his friends played games with me sometimes during our f- free time at the camp. I brought a few extra devices too. Yesterday I bought some, so..." Trailing off, her fingers fiddled with the hem of her red tie and let her nervousness express itself on her face.
"He'd love to! The more the merrier!" From Kirishima's arm around his girl's shoulder, he pulled her into a hug and did a rather rough yank onto Bakugo's shoulder.
"Who's side are you on?! Fuck- whatever, sure!" Spitting out comically, whipping his head to the side, a long grumble left his pouting lips and made Kiri rather satisfied.
"C- Cool. We can play a little bit on the bus later if you'd like," From her uniform's pocket came two spares, which she gave to Eijiro who happily accepted and offered out to the dirty blonde. The girl nearly flinched from his rough grab she saw his sharp glare, nonetheless, she watched him place it in one of his pockets.
"Yukimura- want to sit with me?!" Excited, Mina came running over with Jirou in tow and latched onto the brunette with her arms wrapped around her neck.
"Sure! I can't wait to wear my new costume Hatsume made me, during our training! It looks so sick!" Cheerful, bright, and sunshiny, her smile broadened at the two girls. The sound of their claps let had let Haru know that they high-fived each other, just to earn herself a group hug.
"I have some music you can listen to when we get on the bus, if you want," Jirou's offer made the tan snake smile, which was contagious considering she did it as well and heard laughter from Mina.
"Yeah, sounds awesome!" Haru loved music, but she never found a lot of time to sit around and listen so the opportunity to do so made her brilliant energetic aura brighten that much more.
"Well, if it isn't Tectonic!" Monoma's usual downgrading demeanor made shadows cover his face. "Horned Viper too! What?! Class 1-A accepts villains and cybernetic weapons now?! Hahaha! Class A is taking extra classes, too?! Does that mean you had people who failed the finals?! What?! Isn't that weird, isn't that weird?! Even though they're supposed to be way better than Class B?! How can that be?!" As if on cue, from a chop to the back of his head, he was rendered comically unconscious by one of his classmates and was dragged away by the back of his collar with a quick sorry to them all.
It's Class-B, which Midoriya pointed out with a friendly vibe and drew the rest of Class-A's attention.
"We kind of met at the Sports Festival, but it's nice to meet you, Class-A!" A green-haired girl greeted and gave Uviel a quick peek. "Especially you! I heard what happened and we saw it all! Was that really you who took down that giant robot?" To the side, she watched the cybergirl shyly move her long fiery red bangs over her face to hide and nod in response. "You were cool, I've never seen someone use a robot to fight before! It's nice to meet you, Saito!" With a faint blush, her fingers lifted to give her a thumbs-up and moved toward their bus when the same classmate who dragged Monoma away, stated they were going to board it.
"T- Thanks?" Confused, with a lifted brow, her bangs returned to their spot and watched everyone go inside. On occasion, she'd receive curious glances from the others before they hopped on.
"Come on, girly! Let's get on too!" Haru ran to her best friend, followed by Mina and Jirou who heard Ida announce that it was time to get on. "You two go on ahead and leave me a spot, I'll catch up! Hitoshi, I'll call you!" From her pocket, she lifted her phone and waved it to her boyfriend, his relieved smile and no was enough to tell her that he acknowledged her words.
"O- Okay!" This time, everyone ran on ahead into the buses and it was just the two of the best friends there with Kirishima, smiling. "Har- Har... Thanks, for being my best friend. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't even be here right now in U.A... I would've been an anonymous girl turned into a weapon by now," Pain filled her eyes for a moment just for it to be replaced with relief and a small smile on her lips. "In the long run, you saved my life. Thanks," From a very genuine grin came emotional sapphire hues that Haru could tell, from the heart rate changing, she was appreciative.
"We're besties, why wouldn't I?! I wouldn't want to lose the one girl who was there for me growing up, where no one else would bother trying to help me. Besides- because of you, I met Shinso and so many other cool people who actually accepted me! Shinso... I love him so much, he knows me so well now and he knows when I'm in a dark pit! None of this would've happened if you hadn't accepted the idea of going to U.A. with me!" From a tight hug, she cuddled the small girl and nuzzled her cheek onto the top of her head.
Even though Uviel was a cyborg, it was still comically suffocating to be given a hug from her. It felt like she was a stuffed bear of some sort from how harshly she was being hugged, regardless, her small hand patted the brunette's back. It was a signal to let her know, that she needed air, and with that, she was released. "I guess you could say, if we both didn't get into U.A. we'd both be in a much worse situation. We both had villains breathing down our necks... Chasing us, using us, wanting us, and in the end- we got through it! Kind of like... Dual Fates, right? Two people with similar fates?" Her curious gaze blinked and peeked at Kirishima who laughed at her words.
"Yeah, no kidding! You two were going through something similar, it really is like Dual Fates!" Cheery, and happy, he picked his girl up and whirled in place with her in his strong arms. "I'm just so happy that you're alive and mine!" If he hadn't put her back down, she would've probably vomited from his spinning and puke would have painted the pavement.
"I'm happy you're alive too, E- Eijiro! You even... Helped me during the fight against Gechi's giant robot and from what I heard from Mr. Aizawa- you even helped them fight. He said you gave him a satisfying punch to the face- nice one.~" Cute giggles and deep crimson filled her cheeks at the wild imagination she had going on in her mind.
"Well, obviously I'd sock him good... He was doing things to you that pissed me off," Embarrassed, his lips made a cute pout when he looked away and wanted to scratch at a nonexistent itch on his cheek.
"Either way... Thank you, you're so... M- Manly.~" This time Uviel had to hide her crimson face, for she turned her head away to cover up her adorable smile.
"You two are just perfect," Hitoshi walked close to Haru and held her close by the waist, which earned him a couple of nervous fidgets from her fingers and a shy grin. "Are you ready to head in? Everyone else is already seated," From the point of his finger toward the said vehicles, he wanted so badly to tag along but knew he couldn't.
"O- Oh, right!" Saito quickly snapped out of her shyness and walked closer to her best friend, with a lift of her fist. "Ready to take on more shit?" Awaiting the return of her gesture, the side of her fist soon received the same when the back of Haru's fist bumped against hers. Side to side, grinning at one another as their boyfriends stood to their sides, the girl's gazes lingered for the longest time.
(Play: Skillet – Feel invincible lyrics! It's the ending theme for this fanfic!)
"The more, the better! As long as we can kick some ass, then all of that shit is worth it. Through thick and thin, besties for life!" Haru's snake eyes were soon revealed after the film over her blindness disappeared and stared at those sapphire hues.
"Always!" The moment they moved their fists away, they bumped the back of them once more, earning an excited cheer from Eijiro and a chuckle from Hitoshi.
As the sun was still high in the sky, random pointless credits rolled as the fanfic's ending theme played and showed the beautiful clouds exposing divine rays through their cracks. Countless displays of past events, where Uviel and Haru overcame their pain and fought, flashed across the bright sky. The moments during the sports festival where discouragement filled Uviel's mind, the moment where Haru's eyes cast fear and revealed her true side. All the way to the death of Serpentine and Tali Muni's sacrifice. The giant Robotic battle, the League of Villains, everything that the girls had gone through, they had made it out alive and fought through the pain.
And with all of that pain that they've endured and battled, their bond became far tighter than it has ever before. With the help of Kirishima's and Hitoshi's love, their classmate's support and friendship all but pulled the girls into the light where they can now stand on their own two feet. To become heroes, to become fighters, to become survivors of their traumatic pasts, and to surpass all expectations of the villains who breathed down their necks.
Two best friends with similar fates...
