22: radioactive
One sunny morning, the sun began to illuminate the cultivated fields, beginning a new day.
Daniel pretended to wipe the sweat from his forehead and took a drink of water.
"Nothing like starting the day with hard work, right?" Jonathan Kent smiled at him as he took his own drink of water.
"Not to mention it, it helps to activate the body" Daniel returned the smile.
He because he was helping Jonathan fix the fence on his farm was pretty simple really.
Ever since Carol told him about her family's financial problems, he had thought of some way to get in touch with her parents to offer a "loan."
Of course Daniel had no intention of cashing it out, now his secondary sources of income had started generating income and his shares of the stark group had risen in value astronomically since Tony revealed himself as Iron Man.
I wouldn't say he's rich, but he certainly has quite a bit of capital to work with now.
So when he saw Jonathan working hard in the morning he offered to help.
The best way to start helping Carol's family was to be friendly.
Jonathan nodded and looked at her fence, repairing it from her with her help had saved him time.
"How are you son, I heard that you have been buying seeds, do you plan to start cultivating?"
Daniel stopped for a micro second, a small town was a small town after all.
Information traveled faster from word of mouth.
"I have the farm it would be a waste not to use it, although it is more crops for personal use than anything else"
Jonathan nodded "I can give you one or two pieces of advice, things have changed a bit since your grandfather taught you to plant" Daniel's grandfather had died more than 10 years ago, during this time things had changed.
"I appreciate that, I certainly could use some help with that. And what about him Mr. Kent, is his farm still number one in crop?" he hoped it didn't feel like an abrupt change of subject, he wanted to take the opportunity to guide the conversion to the Kents' financial problems.
Jonathan winced, for a second considering if he should talk about it, he glanced at Daniel and not for the first time was surprised at how much he had grown.
it seemed like only yesterday that he saw him running across the fields when he wasn't even knee-high.
Simpler, happier times, I sigh.
"It's not going as well as I'd like" in the end she decided to tell him a bit, it's not like doing it would hurt anyone.
.
.
.
"Here this must have been a long day" Martha set two glasses of cold lemonade in front of them, Daniel accepted it gratefully.
"A little, but nothing that some effort didn't solve" Jonathan nodded to Daniel's words and continued talking to him.
"We shouldn't have asked for that loan…we could have gotten by without it but let the fear of losing the farm take over, now so many years later it comes to collect and my fears are now real" Daniel smiled sympathetically at Jonathan's words .
"don't blame yourself, you did what you thought was best at the time, the future is always uncertain, we never know what will happen, things ending up like this is certainly not your fault" he patted the man's shoulder elderly.
Jonathan gave her a small smile and nodded slightly.
Maybe…I still have to fix it, better yet if I do it before luthor corp thinks of getting their hands on this place" the contempt was clear in his voice.
Daniel wondered what the story behind this luthor corp and Mr. Kent would be, but that didn't matter now, seeing the opportunity he decided not to delay it any longer.
"Maybe he can help with that." The Viltrumite looked at Jonathan and Martha preparing to convince them to accept the money from him.
.
.
.
"So you've been going to his house every day with the excuse of spending time with me!? You know what I've had to make up every time I run into your mother and she asks about 'our study sessions'!?" Chloe's voice couldn't help but rise, Carol winced and gave her an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry? But you're the only excuse I can use." Of course at some point Chloe would realize that she had been using her name to apologize to her parents.
She wasn't so happy about it.
"A simple apology isn't enough… at least you have to promise to help me with my investigation" Carol looked at her puzzled.
"Don't I already do that?" asked.
"No, all you do is listen to my theories and give your opinion about them, that helps of course, but it would be even better if you help me with the field investigations" Chloe took out a camera as if she was already prepared for this and gave it to him. .
"I heard rumors about a strange giant creature in the woods I want to see if it's true so I want you to come with me tonight"
"tonight? I don't know if I can do it" she had to patrol, she couldn't just go walking through a forest.
"Of course you can do it! You either do it or I won't help you with your excuses anymore" Carol frowned, but she nodded, she needed Chloe as an excuse.
She would only stay with her for an hour at the most, make some strange noise and scare her so they could leave early.
"Alright"
After parting ways with Chloe Carol she came home ready to help her mom with dinner, today she would show her her cheesecake recipe.
"And I think this may be the best option for everyone" when she entered the door she heard a voice that she did not expect to hear in her house.
She quickly walked in and saw Daniel at the dining room table talking to his parents.
He turned to see her and gave her a smile barely perceptible to the human eye.
"Oh Carol you're here" her mother noticed her arrival and she quickly stood up.
I notice how her father covered some papers, she knew that they had been secretly reviewed before.
She looked at Daniel with daggers in her eyes, trying to transmit her questions telepathically, she did not have that clear power, but she had developed powers before without wanting to, now that she wanted to, she should do it, right?
Of course not, she didn't gain telepathy just because she tried.
"what's happening here?" So she had to ask directly.
"Oh it's nothing Daniel just helped your father on the farm and we decided to invite him to eat" her mother was pretty good at lying, if she didn't know better Carol would have believed her.
"It's nice to see you again Carol" Daniel stood up and held out his hand, only now Carol remembered that they were only supposed to have met once.
"uh if the pleasure is mine" she awkwardly took his hand, squeezing tightly in a way that she hoped would convey her misgivings regarding the current situation.
Daniel smiled at her and without her mother noticing she brushed her thumb against her palm causing Carol to startle a little and blush slightly, she was sure that she wanted to transmit calm with that gesture, but she felt something different in her mind.
She could dream after all.
"Come on Carol, dinner won't make itself, I'll teach you how to make that sauce you wanted to learn how to make" Martha gave her husband a look and he nodded, then she took Carol out of the living room and took her to the kitchen.
Jonathan sighed and looked at Daniel.
"I appreciate what you want to do boy, but you have to think about it well this money is what your parents left you you must take care of it"
Daniel smiled slightly.
"I understand your concern Mr. Kent but I think this is what I should do, his family and my grandparents were great friends for a long time, I think he would have wanted me to help them, plus I have already invested in some businesses that are leaving me some money so you should not worry about me this will not affect me"
Jonathan looked Daniel in the eye and continued to hesitate. In his heart he was unwilling to accept such an offer.
Sensing that he should say something else Daniel stiffened.
"Mr. Kent this money means nothing to me, if I could turn back time and lose it all I would not hesitate to have my family by my side, you still have your family and this is your home, don't let them lose think of them"
Jonathan swallowed the bitterness and thought deeply.
Daniel let him think, glancing discreetly into the kitchen aware that Carol should have heard everything.
He didn't want to go behind her back by doing this, but he didn't want her to object either.
Although he did not know her that well, he had been able to see that she was somewhat proud in certain aspects.
Of course this usually came out when she dealt with other people, she seemed to trust hers enough to avoid acting that way in front of him.
Still, he wasn't going to push her luck and for that reason she had decided to speak directly to her parents.
He would apologize to her later.
.
.
.
"Remember you have to grind them very well, if you don't you won't get the right texture" Martha carefully explained to her daughter, Carol nodded pretending to pay attention.
Her eyes covered with her glasses looked up at the wall glowing purple.
She went straight through any obstacle and watched Daniel's conversion with her father.
Her brows furrowed and she couldn't help but pout.
She now understood why Daniel had asked her so much about the farm's debts.
She should have been mad at him, she should have told him what she wanted to do, but she couldn't find it in her to get mad.
But she exactly couldn't do it with Daniel, even so those negative feelings had to go somewhere in her, she gritted her teeth seeing that blonde woman in her memories again.
Had she already said she hated her x-ray vision? Yes he definitely hated her, though lately he had been using her more often than he wanted.
In the end he had to force himself to get used to those images, at least he no longer felt the need to cut any blonde woman in two that came across at the sight of her.
Now it was more like watching something morbidly interesting.
Absently she let the vision of her fix on Daniel's body, another reason she had forced herself to endure those images was because she had found a more significantly important use.
Her clothes began to slowly disappear and Carol concentrated too much on her face starting to blush.
"stop being distracted!" a blow to her head made her leave her place happy with her.
"Why did you hit me with a spoon?!" Carol looked at her mother irritably.
"Why aren't you paying attention, stop staring at the wall like a fool and help me" Martha shook her head, her daughter had been acting weirder than usual.
"I was paying attention to something important," Carol muttered under her breath.
"what did you say?"
"Nothing! Come on, we have to finish this, it's already making me hungry"
.
.
.
The food was soon served, Daniel looked at the plate that Carol gave him, she had whispered to him in a way that only he could hear so he knew that she had made it especially for him using the method that suited his taste buds.
He was grateful, though he didn't doubt that Mrs. Kent's cooking would be amazing—that would only appeal to ordinary taste buds.
He really preferred not to have to pretend to like her if possible.
Jonathan Kent looked at the full table, after thanking the Lord the food began and a harmonious atmosphere came to the place, the conversation became pleasant and fun and Daniel began to tell a story about him and his brother.
"So I said, hey I don't think putting mayonnaise in her coffee is a good idea, my brother looked at me like I was looking at a fool and said, of course she's a good dad he said he loves mayonnaise, when he said it like that I thought It made sense so we emptied almost the entire bottle in the coffee" Daniel laughed remembering that moment, in his previous life he had almost forgotten remembering it vaguely.
Now thanks to the core he was able to recover that memory.
"My father had had a long night at work, he seemed almost dead on his feet, he didn't even look at the cup of coffee we gave him, he just took it and drank it all in one gulp" remembering his father Daniel's face smiling more broadly.
"I don't think I've ever seen anyone spit something out that fast. The coffee even came out of their nose." Daniel made a gesture in mock event.
Carol imagined it and she couldn't help but contain a laugh.
Jonathan smiled, looked at the table, at his wife, his daughter, his family.
He looked at Daniel and remembered his words.
Thinking of his family huh...
His eyes became firmer, Daniel caught his gaze and saw his determination, both subtly nodded understanding that Jonathan had made a decision.
.
.
.
"Why are you looking at me like that? Are you angry?" Back at Daniel's farm, after dinner Daniel left first and a short time later Carol arrived giving him a strange look.
"No, I'm just irritated." That was too honest.
Daniel frowned.
Thinking she didn't say it correctly, Carol rephrased.
"I just... I wish I knew you would talk to them"
This feeling of being ignored, of not being taken into account by Daniel, Carol hates it, she doesn't like it at all.
Daniel thought about it and realized that Cortez wasn't of him to ignore her opinion.
"You're right, I was so focused on trying to help you that I didn't think you had a right to know, I'm sorry" of course Daniel had no problem apologizing.
More precisely because he remembered a phrase that his brother once told him.
It is better to apologize than to ask for permission.
he didn't know what would have happened if he talked to Carol about it first, she might have had to spend time trying to convince her and then spend another time convincing her parents.
With what he did directly with her parents, saving time and effort.
Carol relaxed and accepted the apology quickly and forgetting the matter, more precisely she didn't have any annoyance towards Daniel or towards what exactly he did.
The only thing that irritated her was that he ignored her, not being put in her eyes, made her feel insignificant.
If he had told her from the beginning she found no reason why she would have discussed or denied her help.
Probably knowing herself she would have allowed her to do what he thought was best.
Daniel relaxed and looked at the sky that was beginning to darken.
"Where are you going to patrol today?" Daniel had begun to let Carol expand, going beyond New York.
After all the devil had been doing a great job against gangs and Crime in general.
He had even told him that he had started attacking the connections of the great forces so Daniel decided that they had better not interfere.
Daredevil could do his job better if they didn't interfere and mess everything up by accident.
Carol was going to answer, but remembering her talk with Chloe she couldn't help but feel embarrassed.
"About that… I promised Chloe to go with her to check the woods for some kind of giant creature… but it will be quick, it shouldn't take more than an hour!"
Daniel smiled and waved his hand.
"Don't worry Carol, this is not an obligation or a job, you can spend time with your friend without worrying, after all you are still young" Daniel patted her shoulder and looked at her like he was looking at a small child.
She didn't like me, Carol didn't like that look at all.
clenched his teeth
"I'm not a girl" her words coming out a little bit more biting than she wanted.
"Of course, you're a teenager" although that wasn't much different in Daniel's opinion, in many ways a teenager could be worse than a child when they throw tantrums.
Carol started to get mad at Chloe, this was her fault! now Daniel thought that she was a little girl who would rather waste time looking for useless things with her friend than helping people.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of it tonight, you can go with Chloe without rushing" Daniel began to plan her route.
"No, I'll definitely make it quick and come back to help you." Carol decided to make this quick.
Daniel denied, she could be stubborn.
"Do as you wish"
.
.
.
"So the witnesses said they saw the creature on these roads if we want to get there we have to take this path and walk twenty minutes down-" Chloe started to explain her route, but Carol ignored her, she was irritated.
She became aware of a problem that she hadn't noticed before but now she saw.
Daniel, he didn't see her as a woman.
Shje realized how much he looked into his eyes, he saw her as a girl.
A little girl.
Just thinking about it made her angry.
Not with him, it wasn't her fault after all logically speaking he was older than her, had more experience than her and seemed much more mature than anyone she had ever met, which wasn't difficult since she didn't know many people.
Even so, she couldn't help but feel annoyed, how could she get close to him if he only saw her as a little girl?
"What do you think?" Chloe asked, and Carol began to pay attention to her again.
"It's a good plan, let's go, I don't want it to be too late" her expression was flat denoting her boredom, Chloe ignored this and began to finish packing the things she would take.
Carol helped her just to hurry up, her mind kept thinking about her problem.
How could she make Daniel notice her? She could go with the dye plan, no, she would definitely go with the dye plan that would surely change her image in her eyes.
Could she wear makeup? She frowned, she had never used it because she saw it as unnecessary, but she heard it helped women look more mature.
She licked her lips, she would have to try.
.
.
.
"You see something?" Chloe asked for what seemed like the hundredth time in the last ten minutes they'd been in the woods.
"We haven't even made it to the sighting site of course there's nothing!" The already irritated Carol started to get angrier with Chloe's constant chattering.
"In addition to what we are supposed to be looking for, we only know that it is a giant creature, it could perfectly well be a natural animal that inhabits this forest and that the campers confuse"
"No, it's definitely not natural, I researched the local species and there's nothing as big as an 'elephant' which is what a lot of witnesses say" Chloe said and looked up at the thick leaves on the trees.
They kept walking and soon arrived at the sighting site.
Carol frowned, with the sight of her she could notice some strange things, she hadn't even been trying to look before until she got here and noticed something strange.
Many of her trees were displaced in a strange way, as if something huge passed by her and pushed them out of her way.
She looked at the ground and could notice strange huge footprints, she bent down to touch the place where they were, she felt the texture and remembered some of the lessons Daniel had given her.
Something heavy had definitely done this.
"incredible!" Chloe's voice sounded excited, she looked at the print and started taking photos.
Carol let go of the control she had over her hearing and began paying attention to her surroundings.
Her irritation disappeared, replaced by concern, if there really was a giant creature in this forest then the chances that she was a monster were enormous.
Of course Carol was aware of Daniel's investigation of the monsters, he had told her to be careful and watch out for them.
She understood why, whether it was Greg or Obadiah they had both gained incredible and dangerous strength in a short time.
She slowly put her hand in the pocket of her trench coat and touched the communicator that Daniel had made, it was similar to the ones that Daniel had given to Fury and Natasha, only this one had extra functions and was more sophisticated.
Carol considered pressing the emergency button on the comlink, if there really was a monster she wasn't sure she could protect Chloe while she fought.
More importantly, her secret identity could end up being exposed to Chloe.
As she considered her options she heard a strange sound approaching rapidly.
She immediately became alert and looked to the side of the forest, a huge shadow of more than 3 meters in height suddenly appeared.
Chloe noticed the movement of the trees and turned to look too.
Her mouth dropped open and her hand went up, her camera ready to take pictures.
From the shadows a huge creature came out, despite the darkness Carol could see its appearance perfectly.
He seemed stocky, his gray fur even having a fluffy texture, yet his appearance was humanoid in a sense, his large eyes looking at them curiously.
"That's a huge wolf…" was all Chloe managed to say, her finger pressed the button on her camera, then a flash of light hit the wolf's eyes directly.
that was a mistake.
A howl higher pitched than anything Carol had ever heard echoed through the forest. Carol's head dizzy and she screamed, she felt the blood come out of her ears.
Chloe directly fell to the ground without strength.
Quickly Carol launched herself at the creature.
Her fist smashed into her stomach sending the huge wolf flying and crashing into dozens of trees.
Carol felt dizzy, her vision was blurry and she couldn't hear anything.
It didn't help that there wasn't a sun to help her heal faster.
She saw something fly towards her and dodged quickly.
The humanoid wolf began to throw anything but hers at him, her hands? They could take it, which translates to trees and huge rocks.
Carol dodged and shook her head trying to clear her sight.
She quickly made a fist and punched, despite being dozens of meters away from the monster.
The air rippled and a gust of compressed wind was sending out faster than the speed of sound with enormous kinetic energy.
The wolf squealed as his face was struck, several teeth flying out.
he started to get agitated and ran trying to get away.
Carol wasn't going to let her go, the pain brought her irritation back and with it her anger.
She ran after him, considering using heat vision on him, but she realized that was a very bad idea since she was in a forest.
She didn't want to burn the place down, even if she could put it out.
So he did something better, when she was only a few feet away he took a deep breath and released a blast of icy air from her mouth.
The creature jumped trying to dodge, but it didn't quite succeed and one of its legs was hit and frozen.
Carol reached out and struck, breaking the ice and limb with it, her movement fierce and merciless.
The creature howled in pain and crawled towards a large cave with an entrance that seemed to have been made by something that hit it from the sky, it supposed that this was its nest.
Carol didn't chase right away, now she had serious injuries and couldn't get away from her, even if she wanted to.
She first let her sight clear completely before moving on.
She entered the cave, it was dark but a faint green light could be seen inside.
Carol knitted her brows and walked forward.
She followed the trail of blood until she came to a large cavern, the green glow grew more intense and Carol began to feel strange.
She saw a huge shadow biting into several green colored crystals and to the side she saw that wolf howling. Her paw that had been destroyed slowly began to grow again.
Carol realized the wolf wasn't alone, no doubt now that she wasn't in the woods her heat vision activated.
Her eyes flashed red and two crimson bolts shot out, but Carol sensed that something was wrong, it had taken a little more effort than before.
The wolf was struck and the crimson rays passed through her head without resistance, taking her life. A growl was heard and the huge shadow that she was eating from her moved her hand and threw a rock covered with one of those green crystals at her.
Carol hit the glass preventing him from reaching her, but she felt something strange and looked at her fist.
Where she had hit the glass actually appeared a small bruise.
That should be impossible, even though the other creature threw with great force and speed the rocks shouldn't be able to hurt it.
Then an even deeper howl resembling a roar resounded, several rocks with green crystals on them were ejected by the sonic wave and Carol dodged and hit deflecting the projectiles.
For every second that she passed she noticed that something very strange was happening.
She felt tired.
She hit a huge rock breaking it to pieces and saw how a small wound appeared on her knuckle.
She felt dizzy.
She felt sweat trickle down her face when she shouldn't and she knew something was wrong.
She looked at those crystals that seemed to glow a sickly green and she knew that the problem must come from them.
then from the shadows a huge being came out, his figure was more humanoid and feminine, his height was even greater, his claws glowed a sinister green color.
His teeth and eyes glowed that same color and his fur was a dark green hue.
She let out a roar once more at the sight of her son's corpse and ran towards Carol, she positioned herself and quickly dodged and punched into the wolf's stomach.
This time the creature wasn't sent flying, instead it resisted her blow and her claws clawed at her face.
Carol quickly raised her arm to cover herself, her claws struck and Carol felt the blow back several steps.
That blow was strong, but it wasn't as strong as Daniel's blows.
Still, it made her step back.
If it wasn't for the trench coat sleeve, Carol felt that she should have been hurt.
She looked at the monster, it was moving fast but she had seen faster, even so it was hard for her to dodge it.
Something was up.
Second by second Carol felt the fight getting harder, she barely dodged a blow and a long gash appeared on her cheek.
Blood flew out and Carol screamed.
She still hadn't gotten used to physical pain, for someone who had never felt pain it was much more difficult to experience it for the first time.
Although Greg had already felt pain from her before, it wasn't enough for her to generate resistance towards him.
She was still new to feeling pain and it showed when her cut nearly brought her to her knees.
The beast did not miss this, she quickly ran and tried to bury her claws in her body, luckily for Carol the trench coat resisted, even so her body was sent flying and hit one of the cave walls.
Her head collided with one of those crystals and she felt the blood flow.
Carol got to her feet quickly.
She began to breathe heavily the pain made her suffer enough and tears began to fall from her eyes.
She gritted her teeth and wiped the blood from her face.
Her eyes began to shine and the pain seemed to fade into the background, if she alone could not resist the pain then she had to seek help from elsewhere.
When she activated her x-ray vision she did the same, relying on her heat vision he was able to resist and use her x-ray vision resisting emotional pain.
This didn't make the pain go away of course, but it did make it bearable.
This time she used it to dull the physical pain.
She felt positive emotions fill her body, courage and hope fanning the flames inside her.
The monster roared and Carol too.
They both lunged at each other, Carol's movements began to become clumsier, she could barely dodge the attacks.
The she-wolf was moving extremely fast and agilely, shock waves spread everywhere, and the cave began to shake more and more.
Carol buried her elbow in one of the monster's eyes causing her to squeal in pain, in return the monster bit down hard on her leg trying to break it.
Carol felt how the fabric that she had been holding up until now began to give way.
She quickly tried to break free of it by using her hand to rip out the beast's eyeball.
The wolf released her and writhed in pain, Carol spat bloody saliva and looked at her leg.
The pain was intense, her cloth had torn and her teeth had touched her skin causing wounds.
She breathed heavily and she knew she couldn't go on like this.
She had already noticed it, she was getting weaker, little by little her strength seemed to be disappearing.
She touched her pocket and felt the communicator, she had to call Daniel.
Carol got too distracted, before she could push her button her wolf pounced on her, her remaining eye burning with fury.
She stopped using her claws, her intelligence had increased when he turned into a monster so she was able to realize that her claws were useless against Carol's clothes.
But his teeth were sharper.
Carol couldn't dodge in time and she felt the wolf bite into her shoulder, her teeth piercing through her trench coat and shirt straight from her and she felt her skin being cut.
She screamed in pain and unleashed her heat vision with all the remaining power she could muster.
the monster screeched and her burned skin was sent flying from her but the rays had not passed through her body.
Carol had lost too much strength, she held onto her shoulder in pain and felt her heat vision go out against her will.
"No no no no!" fear began to fill the inside of her and those emotions that had been supporting her began to fade quickly.
The pain came back, pounding into her mind with all the force of it.
"ahhhhg!" Her body ached, everything in her ached, the tears began to flow non-stop and she couldn't stand up.
She began to hyperventilate and panic.
She had to call Daniel! She quickly pulled out the communicator and hit the emergency button.
He would come, he would save her.
Carol began to run towards the exit, completely forgetting her desire to fight.
Of course the monster would not let her escape.
She ran towards her trying to hit her, but this time Carol learned her lesson from her and didn't stop paying attention to her.
I dodge without any thought of counterattack.
The fight was gone from her mind and she went into a state of flight.
Carol might be from space, she might have powers greater than anyone else in the world, but at the end of the day she was still a teenager.
One who had never experienced pain or true struggle.
When other children played, they fell, hurt themselves and then stood up, she never fell, she never got hurt and therefore she never learned to stand up on her own.
When others suffered from diseases, their bodies weakened and their strength failed them.
She had always been fine, never sick, never feeling weak.
That's why she never learned to overcome weakness, she never learned what it's like to feel at the bottom and still get up and try.
She had never been weak and that's why she was so afraid now.
For the first time in his life he began to feel what every human has experienced countless times in his life.
Weakness.
And now she had no way to combat that weakness, she before she could have ignored any fear or pain by relying on her heat vision, but now it was gone.
Desperate she began to run all over the place dodging the monster and crying from the pain that the sudden movements that she made caused her due to her injuries.
Her mind began to cloud over and despair filled every part of her being.
She couldn't win she couldn't fight
Carol was having a panic attack without her knowing it.
Desperately she tried to use her flight, her heat vision for anything, but her strength had diminished so much that it was impossible for her.
Desperate, she began to press the emergency button without control until she accidentally crushed the communicator.
"NO!"
Her mind sank further.
She dodged another blow, feeling the sting in her leg and shoulder.
She kept running trying to get out of the cave.
She had to resist, she had to endure.
Daniel would save her, he would arrive.
If Daniel was going to save her.
Her eyes shone with a light unlike any other and her fear receded.
Daniel goes to save her.
It wasn't a question, it wasn't a hope, in his heart that was a fact.
The realization came to her mind and she quickly began to dodge more nimbly.
Her breathing calmed and the panic receded.
From the beginning a belief that she had been deep in her heart is what kept her going even when her strength failed her and her abilities stopped working.
Her body never stopped despite the intense pain, fear and panic.
She had been unconsciously holding on to this belief, her movements never stopped because of this and it wasn't until now that she consciously realized this fact.
Daniel is going to save her, he will, that was a fact, she did not doubt it, she had no hope of it because Hope implies something that may or may not come to pass.
For her there was no doubt.
It was an absolute certainty, she trusted this fact so much that all her fears disappeared, her panic was extinguished and even her pain seemed to lessen.
She smiled, her blood-covered teeth shining brightly.
She looked at the monster and even felt some pity for it.
She wouldn't die here, but this monster would.
As if sensing the since in Carol's gaze the monster roared and lunged at her more frantically.
Now without panic and fear Carol dodged more easily, her body relaxed and she let her senses guide her movements.
Her body began to move more slightly, using the minimal amount of dodging movements to keep her injuries from hurting more.
The monster got desperate and began to hit uncontrollably.
The cave shook more and more beginning to collapse.
Carol looked at the ceiling starting to fall, but there was no panic.
She dodged the debris and the monster at the same time.
Although her strength continued to wane she had picked up on the speed at which he was doing so and was adjusting to it using the minimum amount of movement to avoid losing stamina.
Carol rolled, dodged, and then countered.
Daniel would save her, yes, but until that moment came, she had to stay alive.
She had to keep fighting
After all, how can he save her if she's dead?
Her strike was accurate, she used all the force she could exert at this moment and struck the monster's knee.
A shock wave spread out and a crack resounded.
The huge wolf howled in pain, its leg bent at an odd angle completely broken.
Carol didn't give her time to react, her body moved again, taking the fur from the wolf's jaw and lowering her head until she was level with her gaze.
She then hit her face over and over again.
The wolf thrashed, tried to use his claws to tear at her body, but Carol dodged as her fist connected again and several teeth flew out.
The wolf swung her tail like a whip trying to hit her, but Carol stepped aside from her easily grabbing her tail in her hands and throwing the wolf towards the ceiling causing the collapse to accelerate.
The wolf fell heavily to the ground, looked at the ceiling of the cave and realized the collapse, roared and tried to run out of the cave dragging his body quickly.
Of course that was when a figure rushed in, pierced his chest with his body and ripped his heart out with one movement.
The monster's body fell to the ground motionless.
Carol looked at the figure that arrived in front of her and smiled widely.
"I'm here" Daniel said and looked at Carol, he frowned when he saw her healing wounds without understanding how she had been damaged so much, was the monster she killed the cause?
"I know," Carol replied, her body relaxing, the tension in her shoulders disappearing, all the energy she had been holding seemed to disappear when Daniel arrived and swayed slightly.
Quickly Daniel held his shoulders.
She looked up at him, reaching up and removing her mask, cupping her face between them. Daniel didn't resist, he just raised an eyebrow in doubt about her action.
"Will you always come to my truth?" Daniel felt that it was something strange, maybe she was mentally affected by her fight.
Looking at his wounds it should have been a tough battle, though he couldn't understand how it came to this.
"Of course" all he could do was wait and ask later so he smiled and answered.
Carol smiled broadly once more and Daniel noticed her blood on her mouth, decided that the best thing to do was to take her directly to sunbathe.
Then Carol approached him and kissed him, it was a simple and direct kiss, it lasted only a second, then her body went limp and she passed out.
Feeling the blood on his lips Daniel couldn't help but run his tongue over them.
He shouldn't have done that, the taste was now in his mouth.
He looked at the unconscious girl and couldn't help but sigh.
Issues.
The headache was already getting to him.

note
not all monsters spawn in populated areas.
Chapter focused on carol.
its biggest weakness is present but it is not the same as other versions.
I've always hated the fact that a green rock can take all the energy out of a being that's been gathering monstrous amounts of it for years, so the way it works in this story is a bit different.
It is not an instantaneous effect, it is progressive and depends on the amount of quantum that can affect the body of a Kryptonian, like real radiation.
What is it.
Even so, this does not mean that a Kryptonian is defenseless just like that, after all, if his body has been gathering energy for years, how can he lose it so easily?
soon carol will have to search for answers about her origins and those answers may not be what most of you expect, at least not exactly.
