I was expecting us to kiss. I had never kissed anyone before. I was really nervous about this because I was scared about what would happen if she found out the truth. I'm pretty sure that my dad doesn't even know that I know. He even rewrote my book (without his typewriter) so I wouldn't suspect anything, but I've been 16 for almost two decades. I will say that I was little upset about the TV adaptation because that girl looked nothing like me. The casting director probably didn't know there was a real person involved because I wasn't even supposed to be real.
The kiss never came. I opened my eyes and I couldn't help but notice that she looked scared of me. I was directly under the moonlight. Oh crap. You know the thing that about being a book character was that I was incapable of swearing. Maybe she didn't see what I thought she saw. Maybe she didn't know that I was a ghost. Maybe she was scared of something else. I had to tell myself these things because I wanted it to be true. I didn't know why I was falling for her because I knew that I wouldn't be able to date her.
"Taylor?" I asked. "What is it?"
"N..nothing." She stammered. She had seen it. I had a feeling that things were ruined now. I finally met someone who liked me and it was ruined because I was dead. Well technically, I wasn't dead because I wasn't ever really alive. I was a character who died previously.
"Are you sure?" I asked as the moon was covered by clouds. I wasn't glowing anymore.
"Yeah I'm totally fine." She lied before she fell to the ground. Suddenly, zombies started to rise. You know going through a cemetery suddenly didn't seem like a good idea, but I obviously didn't expect there to be zombies.
"Taylor." I remarked. I could see under her skirt, but now was definitely not the time for me to perverted. I helped her up and the two of us began to run. It was the perfect distraction, even though I wasn't actually in any danger. However, my dad and Taylor were and even though I didn't really know Champ or Lexi, I didn't want them to be eaten by zombies either. Fortunately, the zombies weren't capable of running, but they were pretty numerous. We managed to get through the gate, well everyone except Dad.
"I'm stuck." He said. "Go on without me. Save yourselves."
"Okay, good luck." Champ declared before he ran off. I was pretty sure that it was just an expression. I mean we needed him to write the new book if nothing else.
"I didn't mean it, Champion!" Dad screamed. All I could think was that kid could really run fast. At least Lexi and Taylor stayed with us to get him free. "What kind of monster would take me up on that offer? Where is that little imbecile?"
That was kind of harsh, but to be fair he did seem to value his own life. Thankfully, the zombies didn't seem to be able to get past the gate. Were they the same ones he had written, because I knew that they were smarter than that.
We did manage to catch up to him pretty easily before we made it to the school. It was my first time actually going inside…of any school. They usually weren't open when I was able to go out. Considering that there was a dance going on, all of us except Champ would probably really stick out.
"Now where did they put my typewriter? Was it this way or maybe it was the other way?" Dad asked. This was something that I couldn't help him with. I still wasn't sure why he donated it in the first place because that was something that could be really dangerous if it fell into the wrong hands. Some kid messing around could accidentally trigger the apocalypse or something. "Maybe we should split up."
"No. Haven't you read any of your books. We're never supposed to split up." He stated. That was a little hypocritical considering that he had almost just ditched us.
"It seems like we're safe here. Maybe it's not such a bad idea." Lexi suggested.
"Do you know how many display cases there are?" I asked Taylor. Maybe she knew the answer to something like that. It was something that I would notice, but I was pretty sure that some of my dad's writers instinct was rubbing off on me. If I was an actual person, I could even possibly write something of my own.
At that point, I noticed that Taylor and my dad weren't behind us. One thought immediately came to my mind. There were talking about me. My dad didn't even knew that I knew. I don't know how he expected me not to know since I wasn't aging. I mean I read all of the books, except the original version of my story. I couldn't ask him what he changed because then he would know that I knew. I was pretty sure that he wanted to believe that he was really my dad as much as I wanted to believe that I was really his daughter. I mean yes he did create me, but not in the same way that other people were created.
I decided to go back to talk to them, and sure enough both of them looked upset. They had definitely been talking about me.
"There you are. Are you okay?" I asked. I wasn't. I knew that there was a possibility that I wouldn't even survive this. If all of the monsters had to go away, I might have to as well. I supposed that maybe that was just how I was written. I gave myself up in the original story. I wanted to stay with my dad and I wanted to love Taylor, even though I wasn't sure if things would be the same anymore. "So we found the typewriter."
The first thing we found was that the case was locked, but Taylor managed to pick it. Dad really loved the typewriter. Maybe he thought it was a good idea to keep it locked up, but there were probably better places to keep it locked up.
"So start writing." Taylor said.
"Yes, but what's the story?" Dad asked.
"What do you mean? How about you just write the monsters are disappear suddenly?" Lexi responded.
"I can't just write a sentence and call it a story." He explained. "It has to be a real story. It has to be a Goosebumps story with twists and turns and frights. Not to mention some personal growth for our hero."
He wasn't going to try to sell this story, was he? It probably didn't need to be that complex. I was pretty sure that no one was actually going to read it. I guess that was part of the mind of a writer that I didn't understand.
"Go to the gym. Warn everyone. Tell them to barricade the school." He instructed as he opened the door to the school theater. I was pretty sure that they wouldn't believe us.
"Where are you going?" I asked.
"I have to find somewhere quiet to write." He said. I supposed that it probably wasn't easy to write under duress, but I didn't think we would be safe in here forever. The monsters would have to figure out where we were eventually.
The gym was filled with teenagers who didn't have a care in the world and I was so…jealous. I wished that I could do nothing more than enjoy myself. I was also a little amazed that the school seemed to be last place untouched by the monsters. I stood in awe before Taylor and Lexi came back for me.
"This looks really great." I gushed. I really wanted to ask Taylor to dance with me, but it was neither the time nor the place for that. Okay, it was literally the place but we definitely didn't have time for it. "Are all high school dances like this?"
"Well usually the dancing is better." Taylor remarked. "We should see if we can find my mom."
"You're going to introduce me to your mom?" I joked. I don't know why I said that. I did notice her blush so maybe she still did like me despite knowing what I really was.
"Taylor." A woman interrupted. That was her. I had seen her, but the two of us hadn't met. "I couldn't get home to you and Aunt Lorraine and all of the cell towers seem to be down."
"Mom, everyone here is in danger. We have to barricade the school." Taylor stated. She looked at us incredulously.
"Can we not do this right now?" Her mom asked.
"She's telling the truth, Mrs. Cooper." I interrupted. I supposed a little bit of background information probably have helped though.
"Who are you? Do you go here?" She questioned. I wished I did. Maybe if I got out of this, I could talk to my dad about it.
"I'm Hannah Stine. I live next door." I said. However, at that moment, Champ grabbed the microphone and it went about as well as I expected. All he seemed to have stage fright to make seem even less believable. Fortunately, Taylor went up there to bail him out. I didn't seem to help him though.
"Listen to my friend, Taylor." He said before handing her the microphone. People actually did seem to show some interest in her, possibly because she was a pretty girl.
"So let me preface this by saying this is going to sound completely insane." Taylor declared. She didn't seem very comfortable up there either. "Monsters have invaded Madison."
The crowd didn't seem to believe it.
"It's true. I saw them too,." Lexi interrupted.
It was a disaster because no one seemed to believe it. That was probably because people died so easily in horror movies. To make matters worse, there was a heckler as well. However, then he mentioned the praying mantis before said mantis came in and grabbed him. That got everyone's attention at least. Everyone started to scream and panic.
"Everyone calm down!" Taylor shouted. "I know what to do but I can't do it alone. Those things are R.L. Stine's monsters. He's here and he can stop this. We just need to buy him enough to write. Don't worry he's a very quick writer."
I didn't really have the heart to tell her about all of the times I found my dad struggling with writer's block. Hopefully he wasn't having any right now because we definitely did not have time for that.
At that point, we followed her to one of the classrooms. She had a map of the school.
"Okay, these are all of the exits. Find whatever you can to help barricade the doors. We cannot let the monsters inside."
Thankfully, they were willing to listen and also help us now. However, I quickly learned that things didn't seem to help. The monsters were here and the fight was just about to begin.
Yes I know it's been a ridiculous amount of time since I updated, but I felt inspired. As you can see, I did a POV shift where Hannah is the narrator now and she's fully aware of what she is. She also feels that her relationship with Taylor is already doomed. There's going to be a different ending from the movie, so be prepared for that. Please don't forget to review.
