Fuuka's Last Kiss

Chapter XXXI - Treason - Part II

"You certainly are clever, but the knowledge wont help you any." - Fuuka

"What is the meaning of this!?"

Hasura gave Ashina Uzumaki an accusing yet confused look, his disbelieving words escaping his dry throat. He obviously didn't seem to understand what was happening - or he didn't want to understand it. Two Uzushio-Nin turned to the surprised Kunoichi. Fuuka's arms were pinned against her bare back by the two Anbu of her village, preventing her from using her hands to form any finger signs. She offered only brief, imperceptible resistance. Not a word escaped her red lips. What was the use of defiant words? Fuuka was aware of the fact that nothing she could say now could change her situation. No one would choose her words over the words of the great Ashina Uzumaki. Fuuka may have been reckless, but she wasn't stupid. She was silent, her contemptuous, angry gaze fixed on her uncle.

"It seems that your sister is not only a criminal who betrayed the trust of our loyal allies for her own gain, but also a traitor who was willing to work with our enemies if there was a benefit in doing so."

Hasura shook his head in disbelief.

"No, impossible. That... that can't be. I do not believe that. She wouldn't!"

He moved to the captured Ninja from Kirigakure and grabbed him on his neck.

"You lie. Tell my uncle you're a filthy liar!'

"We've had hints pointing in that direction for quite some time," Ashina admitted. "This man merely provided us with evidence in regards to her selfish activities."

Ashina walked towards Hasura, who then let go of the prisoner. His gait was definite, as was the expression on his wrinkled face.

"Of her betrayal," added the village chief. "It seems that it was your sister who gave the Ninjas from Kiri the information they needed to bypass our defenses."

The old man with long white hair stood next to his red-haired nephew. His gaze was directed at the captive Kunoichi. Fuuka's eyes narrowed. Ashina seemed unfazed by her defiant demeanor. In fact, he might well have enjoyed her hateful attention. Fuuka wouldn't be surprised. In fact, she was almost sure.

"Didn't you ever wonder what she was doing abroad? Alone – always unaccompanied by someone from the village? Sometimes she's been gone for months without telling anyone where she's going and for what reason. Like just recently."

Fuuka's brother seemed thoughtful, but the disbelief was still on his striking face. He didn't want to believe it. He glanced at Fuuka, but his sister didn't seem to feel any need to correct anything. Not a word of protest. Nothing. Hasura had often asked himself what his big sister did when she wasn't in the village. She left alone, without telling anyone where and why, not even confiding this knowledge to Hasura. Fuuka didn't tell him anything more specific - not even when asked. There was no person in this world who was as familiar and unknown to Hasura as his own sister.

"I... I'm sure there's another explanation for that."

The red-haired man looked expectantly at Fuuka, hoping that his big sister would explain what she was doing and for what reasons. But again nothing. Just silence.

"Sister - say something. Please!"

Her eyes wandered to her brother. Their eyes met. Hasura's eyebrows were raised, his mouth open - he hoped Fuuka would say something. But nothing. He had to be satisfied with her gaze, understand it and interpret it correctly. At least Fuuka seemed to hope that he did. At least that's what Hasura Uzumaki thought. If the Anbu from Kiri, like his uncle, were telling the truth, and it really came out that his sister was conspiring with the Land of Waves... Would Fuuka act like she was acting now? He was sure that she had to assume that even if his claim was false, no one would believe her. She had far too bad a reputation for that – and Ashina Uzumaki far too good a reputation. Hasura's lips closed while Fuuka's turquoise-blue eyes narrowed further. He now thought he knew roughly what she intended to do. Fuuka made it clear to him without using a single sentence, like so many times before. What Fuuka's younger brother wasn't sure about was how he would act, when the time came. And he didn't have much time to think about it, because knowing his sister, that time was soon.

"She knows that any deception, or lie, or excuse she would give to try to get her out if this mess would be in vain."

The experienced but noticeably aged Shinobi placed his hand on Hasura's broad shoulder. Though it didn't appear to be, his grip was still firm and strong.

"Your sister never cared for the village. She never cared about this place. I wouldn't even be surprised if the only feelings she had for the villagers were just disgust and contempt."

He turned his gaze back at Fuuka – the old man's visage was reflected in her fiery gaze.

"Do you think she wouldn't be able to do that? What was there to stop her from it?"

Fuuka's brother looked thoughtfully at the floor. Ashina's words weren't wrong. In fact, Fuuka didn't care for the village. She never had. Hasura knew the reasons for this - but that wouldn't change the fact. Fuuka despised the village and everyone who lived in it. It may not have been hate she felt; her feelings weren't that strong. These people didn't mean that much to her. They weren't worth hating in her eyes. But a deep dislike could not be denied after her father was branded a traitor and her mother was forced to kill herself. But would Fuuka really be able to go that far? Even if she denied it; she showed some connection to this place. After all, she was born and raised here. After all, her brother was here.

"Loyalty?" Ashina continued. "She doesn't know loyalty. She's unfamilar with that concept. She just care about herself."

Ashina was wrong about that, for all his wisdom, he thought. She was loyal to him. She did care about him. Fuuka would never betray him - Hasura was sure of that. But how would he decide? If Ashina Uzumaki was right, Fuuka had turned her back on the village to which she was sworn allegiance as a Kunoichi. Hasura has dedicated his entire life to the welfare of Uzushiogakure. His oath to the village bound him and his actions to the common good of the village community. Which loyalty was more important now; that of the village he served, or that of his sister whom he loved? Hasura closed his eyes and clenched his fists. It was an impossible decision - but there was only one right answer. If he choosed his sister... If he allowed her to do what she set out to do and if she was successful, there would be no turning back; She would be branded forever - doomed to live in darkness and shadows. A fugitive. A Nuke-Nin - a Missing-Nin. A Kunoichi who would live in constant uncertainty and be hunted for the rest of her life. Not to mention that he faced the same fate if he supported her. However, if she stayed here - with her brother - he could intercede for her. And if he was able to refute the allegations against his sister, they could possibly forget this incident together.

"But you're not unfamilar. Your loyalty is undeniable, Hasura!"

There was something empowering about Ashina's voice. It strengthened his resolve to choose the village. In this case, siding with Ashina also meant acting in his sister's best interests. He really hoped she'll understand when the time comes. And the time did come.

"Lightning-Style: Electric Needle Spark!"

The air began to crackle as electrical energy suddenly concentrated at a certain point in space and then discharged. Fuuka summoned lightning that surrounded her body like a flaming cloak. The two Anbu holding her tried to pull away from her - but it was too late for that.

"AARGH!"

The two Uzushio-Nin cried out as Fuuka's lightning was redirected at them and their bodies began to smoke. Then the two fell to the ground at the same time - mute and unconscious. Their leopard masks fell from their faces. Suprise was written all over their faces, even after their brains forced them to take a involuntary nap because of the intense pain inflicted by the Kunoichi. Hasura also looked amazed.

Lightning? When did she master another element!?

Hasura blinked in disbelief as he just stood there and watched Fuuka's rebellion. Not even he himself had mastered two Chakra natures, and he was already a Jonin - albeit the youngest in the village. How did she manage to acquire another element besides her own – earth? This usually required years of expertise, experience and a lot of training. Especially for the latter she didn't seem to care much at all.

Fuuka was indeed a mystery - even to him.

The other two Anbu went into an attacking stance after one of them roughly tossed the tied up Kiri-Nin aside, like an annoying garbage bag getting in the way. The other, standing closer to Fuuka than his comrade, drew his blade from a white shaft he wore on his back. His mask was not adorned with a big cat, but with a crocodile. He threw himself on her. Fuuka blocked his blade with a Kunai which she quickly pulled out before the steel could pierce her chest. The Kunoichi pressed against the blade, throwing the masked attacker back. She used this brief moment to catch a glimpse of her brother. Hasura felt like time stood still for a moment when their eyes met. They had the same eyes - but not the same intent. He hoped he would be able to get through to her, but Fuuka's look denied his suggestion. No; it wasn't just a denial. It was only milliseconds, but that was enough time for Hasura to read her eyes; Sadness, disappointment and... distance - but from what? From the village, or from him too?

"Fuuka..."

Hasura couldn't help but take a step towards her, but he was held back by Ashina. The Shinobi with the crocodile mask lunged at Fuuka again, but before their blades could cross again, the woman threw a gray orb on the ground that she had previously pulled out of her white sleeve. Smoke spread across the room. When the smoke was gone, Fuuka was as well. But the fugitive Kunoichi couldn't be far away. More Ninja rushed into the room - as if they had been waiting outside all along, only to enter at a certain time, after a certain signal or moment.

"Find her!"

"Yes!" came it like a chorus. The group disappeared as quickly as they appeared before them. Hasura stood motionless in place. His eyes were fixed on the stars. Ashina went back to the window - but this time his serious gaze was directed downwards; on the blue rooftop panorama of Uzushiogakure.

"She won't get far."
