"Welcome, welcome!" the man proclaimed loudly as all the screens flicked on, revealing rows of shadowy figures looking at him. "I see that you have all decided to accept my invitation to this meeting. Wonderful!"
"Broker," one of the figures said. "You had best stop wasting my time and get to the point."
"Agreed," another figure said. "What is the meaning of this?"
The Power Broker smiled. "Of course. As you may know, the world has recently undergone a massive paradigm shift with the emergence of the mutant nation of Krakoa. Many fears of a mutant revolution have only increased. After all, what can we do in the face of this…upheaval? How can we respond? Well, today I am glad to say that I have a solution."
He could see that at last he had peaked the interest of the figures. A few leaned forward, a few straightened up, and a few simply raised an eyebrow. But he had their attention.
"The mutants have told us many times that they are the next stage of human evolution. That they are the superior man to us, ah, Neanderthals. We have managed to keep them at bay so far but sadly, that seems like it will no longer work. It won't be long before we are slaves to the new mutant empire. Unless, of course, we have a way to change the game back in our favor."
"Enough." The first figure slammed a fist down. "I grow tired of you beating around the bush. Explain yourself or suffer the consequences."
"Of course," the Power Broker bowed. "My apologies. The question we are faced with, is how we can change the game, to combat this veritable nation, this army of superpowered individuals. The answer is simple: we require an army of our own."
Again, he saw the interest peak across the screens. Except the first figure whose expression remained blank.
"But where to find such an army? From beyond the stars? No, no, no, that won't do. An alien power might leave us open to invasion. No, we must look elsewhere. Which leads me to my next question." He flashed a wide grin. "How many of you have heard of the multiverse?"
Now he really had their interest.
"You are looking for mutants from other universes to aid us?" one of the figures asked.
"That just seems like it would make the situation worse."
"Exactly why that was not my plan. No, we cannot rely on variations of mutants. I had to look further for the solution. Every universe is different, from the smallest of margins to the widest of expanses. Well, I chose to look at the expanses. And I found it. A world whose shift from ours began in the earliest of evolutionary of development. A world without mutants. Instead, it is a world overrun with gifted individuals. 80% of the population I believe."
Several more eyes widened at that announcement.
"What kind of world is this?" one person muttered.
"A world dominated by the heroes, sadly. But, this could work in our favor. These abilities this world has, or quirks as they call them, are a biological development, not all too different from mutations."
"Then how is this helpful?"
"Yes, seems like this world is just more bothersome. A world where the freaks have taken over."
"If that is all you can see, then you truly are blind," the first figure interjected. "Or just idiotic."
The other figure growled, eyes narrowing in anger, but said nothing else.
"Yes. You see the possibilities of this could be limitless. You see, while many have tried to control mutations over the years, this new Krakoan technology makes it…difficult. Here, there are no such restrictions. And, a world populated with heroic figures has villains forced to the shadows. Villains who may be looking for…a new opportunity."
He smirked, knowing he had them all in the palm of his hand.
"But won't they side with the mutants? After all, you said they were not too different."
"Exactly. Not too different. But still different and that is what matters. Mutants have now closed themselves off from all but their own kind. And as close as these other humans are to them, even that small difference is enough. So no, we will have no concerns in that area."
"Very well. Now what exactly are you selling us on, Broker?"
The Power Broker shrugged. "What any good businessman wants. Money. I'd say about 10 million from each of you."
"And what exactly will you give us in return?" the first figure asked.
"The exact information you need to find this specific world. After all, with the multiverse, trying it on your own is like searching for a needle in an ocean of hay. But, if you want the metal detector, you'd better pay up. Now I know you'll want to think it over, perhaps converse with your comrades or peers of what have you. Shall we say, five minutes to reach a decision before this information expires?"
"And what is to stop us from finding and killing you?"
The Power Broker smiled thinly. "Contingencies. Now, I myself do not care for such matters. Which is why I had my dear friend here Karl Mordo, who was so gracious to aid me in my search for this world in the first place, to cast a spell that will erase the memory of this information after this meeting concludes."
Five minutes later, he had 200 million dollars added to his bank account. He grinned and then waved his hand at his other associate, the so-called Mad Thinker, who proceeded to send out the information.
"A pleasure doing business with you all. And I cannot wait to watch the new world order you build."
The screens flickered off and just like that, Mordo's spell took effect. Broker still knew the basics of the information, but no specific detail on where the world was or how to relocate it.
"Well, this was fun," he said to his associates.
"Thank you. It is not often I am given such a unique challenge," the Mad Thinker told him.
"I care not for the workings of this material world," Mordo sniffed. "I did this to further my own agenda, nothing more."
"Isn't that always the case for villains such as us?"
They left soon after, leaving the Power Broker alone, nursing a glass of wine. He sipped it and leaned back, enjoying the sunset. "Something wicked this way comes," he murmured before letting off a harsh bark of laughter.
Hello and welcome to my second My Hero Academia story. Another crossover with Marvel and actually the first one I started writing. Unlike my first one, where the universes were converged, this will be a dimensional traveling story as the two universes interact. Still working on it but it's been a lot of fun and I can't wait to share more with you. Please leave a review if you can.
