I hear the moans coming from across the hall for roughly over 10 minutes, they were heavy, muffled. Suddenly i hear it "NEIN."

I hear an angry set of words being exchanged in German, the voices I recognized to be Gale and Annabelle's.

" Warum liebst du mich nicht?!" (why wont you make love to me)

Ich muss dir nichts erklären. Kenne deinen Platz. Du dienst mir. (I don't have to explain anything to you. Know your place. You serve me)

( So all of this meant nothing to you? Because of one human girl? And what, if the she denies you you'll fuck her sister, using her own family against her just like you used me against my mother?! You are a selfish woman!)

Sudden I hear a loud snarl, a bang on the wall as I near closer to my door. Although I couldn't understand. I knew this wasn;t some typical arugment"

SPRECHEN SIE AUSSERHALB VON LIZA UND SIE ERHALTEN SIE! SIE VERSTEHEN NICHTS KLEINES MÄDCHEN! JETZT GEHE RAUS! (SPEAK OUT OF LINE AGAIN ABOUT LIZA AND YOU WILL REGRET IT! YOU UNDERSTAND NOTHING LITTLE GIRL! NOW GET OUT!)

I sneak to my bed, soon hearing a soft cry as the door closes. I turn myself in my bed, trying to keep myself calm. I heard my name come from Annabelle's lips. What does this mean. Speak of the devil. "Did you think I couldn't sense you eavesdropping young one? You must think me a fool." I look over my shoulder to see Annabelle sitting upon my bed, not facing me. I could see this wasn't the once seductive Annabelle, but one that was subdued. I don't say a word, nervous as Annabelle comes to lay right behind me, her almost pitch black eyes looking to the ceiling. "Are you okay?" I say reluctantly, not daring to ask what the two vampires' conversation was about. "Even a vampire has to face her past sometime in her existence. I suppose you're wondering what this all has to do with you?" I gulp, not wanting to respond. She just turns to nuzzle into the back of my neck. "I have done some selfish things young one. Yet you can't dwell on it in immortality. I have come to accept myself as a monster, for that's all I've ever been known to be." suddenly I feel her kissing my neck, making me frightened. I lay in stillness. "Then you come around, and suddenly maybe I am something more." She says in between kisses that only became deeper, my breath hitching as she licks up my pulse. Her as her voice becomes a heavy whisper upon my skin. "Or maybe in the end, I'm just the predator who is aching to claim her prey." With her words I close my eyes, preparing that Annabelle was going to bite me as she had my body pressed against her. What scared me more was that I was not fighting her. I just laid there, almost as if ready for her teeth to sink in. I knew her mouth was bared as her hollowed breath slowly neared closer. Her fangs were grazing my skin when the door opens. Annabelle's head slightly moves away from my suddenly shaking frame, hearing a light guttural growl emerging from her throat as her now glowing crimson eyes looked to the presence at the door. "Is it clear to you your despicable timing, and that you've unkindly stirred our guest, Demetria." "Excuse me for the intrusion, Miss Annabelle. May I speak with you in private?" I hear Demetria speak softly in the doorway. A moment later, I feel a long soft kiss put upon the crook of my neck. "Sleep well my lamb." Soon I feel nothing, turning as Annabelle is nowhere in sight. Her lamb...her prey. Was that all she saw me as? A pet? Or was I something else entirely to her?

January 28, 1953

"We're out to the city today" Annabelle exclaimed as she appeared at the door of mine and Evelyn's bedroom in a beautiful, all red dress suit. She wore a hat with a net that covered her entrancing eyes. For a

vampire, the word "Killer" suited her well yet it always had me concerned. The past couple of days she has acting rather strangely. She was more irritable, barking orders at her maids in German yet didn't speak much to me or Evelyn. Yet I could see the hunger in her features as she laid her eyes upon me, as if she was ready to take me yet knew she couldn't without breaking her promise Last night's events must have also sparked her hunger even more so. I could tell she was ready to give in and feed from me with or without my consent. Then after she left I heard more angry words in German. Now it was as if she was back to herself, sort of. I noticed her eyes were a darker shade of blue than normal which only meant one thing. It is evident she hasn;t fed in a few days which explains last night's events, her mood swings. She has me concerned at how much shes been looking to me with devilish eyes. "Why have you waited this long to take us out?" Evelyn asks with curiosity, I look up

to the mysterious woman, now asking myself the same question. "I know you two have been through a trauma that you will forever carry, I thought the real world would bring back

those memories. But I knew you would need to go out sometime, be around your own kind, fresh air. But you will not leave my side. And whatever I say, you

will comply, it's for your own good that way, trust me." She lifts her head to glance me dead in the eyes for a second, then turns away to head back to her bedroom. "What do you think she

means by that?" I ask Evelyn. She just shrugs. Me and Evelyn had prepared for our outing with Annabelle then headed outside to the courtyard. Annabelle followed right behind us. It is rather a cold and cloudy day, snow lacing

the ground like a cozy blanket. Snow in New York was surely beautiful. Liza enjoyed her pastime's of going out with her father to take walks during snowfall. His

warm smile filled her as they would talk for hours. It was a memory Liza held dear to her heart. She looked at the sky, no sun visible within it. "Is this why

we're going out today? No sun no foul." I ask her, hugging myself tightly due to the cold I feel Annabelle come up behind me, thinking I'd become more freezing to the closeness of her naturally cool skin. Yet I feel warmth as Annabelle places her fox fur jacket upon my shoulders. I allow the warmth to engulf me as Annabelle begins to speak to me while her hands lingered there. "Indeed. The sun won't immediately kill us but a soon become weak, even non functioning if in it for too long. The eyes are extremely sensitive." I watch Annabelle pull away as I see sunglasses in the woman's hand, then putting them on to

cover her eyes. I guess you can never be too safe. " Where's your car? You don't actually have one? Curious for someone as elegant and extravagant as you." Evelyn adds. Annabelle

just smiles "Usually I'm not in need of one, I have my own forms of transportation." She smiles slightly. Evelyn thinks it's her moment of truth while the woman

immediately shakes her head "I have my own driver dear, but yes there's what you're thinking of. Being...a vampire definitely has it's perks." Evelyn faces drops,

looking a bit disappointed as Annabelle kneels down in front of her to lift her chin "Soon, I promise. In broad day would be too risky." I see her looking up at the sky, then looks toward the

gate as she smiles. Soon enough a beautiful Mercedes Benz pulls up, looking brand new. Cars like this during this day you needed a excessively high paying job.

Apparently Annabelle was rolling in it. The car was painted a pitch black, windows a dark tint, the driver not even visible. I know in my heart why it's so dark, I

fear that's apart of how the vampire lures in her prey. Beautiful car, attractive to the eyes, no one being able to see what happens inside when she takes a

human life, Is the driver human? Does he watch? Does she feed from him? All these questions swarm my mind..but I get snapped out of it by a nudge in

my shoulder. Evelyn looks at me like I've been passed out for the past 5 minutes. "You girls ready?" I see the woman step in the front seat. I stare at her in

uncertainty, not moving an inch towards the car. "Liza, are you alright?" Evelyn grabs my arm. I have to stay silent, I can't say my fears out loud for Annabelle

to hear me. I just nod, following my sister as we enter the dark car. The windows on the inside are just like the outer, not showing the outside world. A dark

leather with crimson undertones. I try not to show my nervousness, but I know I can't hide any of my emotions, not from a centuries old vampire. The moment

she said she could sense everything about me through my blood, I was cautious around her. I feared that she was watching my every move, that she was dying

to claim me. Annabelle however did not say a word, only once looking at me through the mirror with her sunglasses fitted perfectly on her face. The driver did

not even look or say a word. I wondered what their relationship was like, was it just business, both driving and her feeding needs? Was she close? Seemed to

me that other than Evelyn and I she had no one else other than her victims. Did she have a family? What happened to them? We finally stop after about 10

minutes. Annabelle handed the driver a wad of cash, giving him a nod as she stepped out...opening my door and Evelyn opened the other side. People were

everywhere. The 1950s, a time when city life was abundant, people working, partying, mingling, those with money showing off their expensive cars. You know,

living the American dream. My parents and I once had that. I had everything, and despite my father's busy working schedule, we always found time for each other. I

was their life, and they were mine. One thing that we were not was conceited in our prosperity. My parents were always ones to think about others with

kindness in mind, and instilled that into me. "Money cannot buy you happiness" I remember my mother say. "What makes you happy is feeling fulfilled, doing all you

can in life to be the best you can be for yourself and those around you. Never forget this Liza." I miss my mother, my father so much. I will say this much, being around Annabelle at times comforted me, for she was sensitive to my loss. Yet she still screamed danger, and I would not grow weary of that fact.

In this moment, the amount of people in the streets overwhelmed me, I haven't been around this many people in about a month. Evelyn, however, concerned me even

more, she stepped back at the crowd. She is afraid of our world now. Annabelle looks over at her with a frown, sensing her discomfort. Then grabs her hand and

squeezes it. "There's nothing to be afraid of Evelyn, I'm right here." Rubbing her knuckles reassuringly. I see Evelyn start to breathe again, relaxing into

Annabelle's touch. "Come, the day is young."

We start to walk, my sister's arm never leaving Annabelle's while Demetria follows behind us. I ask myself why she actually brought us into the city. To my surprise we first stop at a jewelry store. "I wanted to get something for each of you. You may pick out anything you'd like." Annabelle says to the both of us. Without warning, Evelyn leaves Annabelle arm and rushes into the store. I just shake my head with a laugh. "ONLY ONE THING EVELYN SHE DIDN'T MEAN...!" Annabelle looks to me with a look of confused amusement. "You said the A word." Annabelle to my suprise from her normal looked puzzled while even Demetria gave off a little smile. "Lets go make sure she doesn't buy out the whole store." I say with a roll of my eyes. Annabelle finds her looking at a delicate golden locket. "Have your eyes on this Evelyn?" Annabelle bends down, looking to my sister with a soft grin. "I've always wanted a locket, even more a picture of a family inside." Evelyn says, now rather softly. I look to her sadly. "Why did you never ask father for one Evelyn? I'm sure he would have gotten one for you?" I ask her. Evelyn doesn't speak.

Annabelle wraps her arms around Evelyn from behind. " Well I think this locket is lovely. Is this the one you want? We could even go and get a picture done with you and your sister if you'd like." "Will you be in the picture Annabelle?" Evelyn asks. I try not to have a reaction. Annabelle just smiles to herself before leaning into her. "If that's what you desire I would be honored. Miss...we will take the golden locket if you would be so kind." It felt like Annabelle was replacing my family to Evelyn, like our family hadnt taken care of her for over three years. It makes me confused more than anything. And the fact that the three of us were being considered as her family. "You haven't looked around at all Liza. Why don't we take..." "I'm okay. Really. You already bought me a piano, let us stay with you. You have done enough deeds for my sake." "I would buy you the whole world if I could Liza. Yet it would never be enough would it?" I insist. Please let me do this one final thing." "And what is the catch Annabelle? You surely aren't doing all of this without a price" Annabelle comes up to me, speaking for me and me alone. " I get it now, You're upset about the locket aren't you? I know you think I'm replacing your family to Evelyn. Or is it also because you think that I'm trying to butter you up just to let me take your blood." I stay silent. "Well my dear, is it working? Because if it weren't for our interruption last night, I'd say you appeared to be more than willing. I found it rather invigorating, was truly looking forward to having some time together." I begin to breathe in deeply as she just darkly chuckles into me. "Just enjoy the day Liza. I know Evelyn is. Look, she's amoungst common people without fear. That is something to be celebrating no?" I look, Evelyn smiling from ear to ear with the locket in her hand. I can't help but look happily to her yet what I hear next makes my heart race. "And I'm rather enjoying being the reason

your heart is skipping a beat." Annabelle whispers into my ear before making her way to Evelyn, going around her to put the locket on her neck. I look to the exit, knowing if I wished I could make a run for it. I should, knowing that Annabelle wants me. "Having second thoughts of your desicion Liza?" Annabelle calls out to me, looking to me as though she already read my moves. I shake my head as I go up to the,.

We stop at the front of a building that looks

at least over fifty years old. "Welcome to one of my favorite places. Though I must warn you, that here you must listen to my words, or there be major

consequences." I look dazed, "B Mingler" I say as I observe the sign for myself. "This is a restaurant that heeds to both human and vampire needs." I look at

her in alarm. Like I would enter such a place. Why would she bring us here? Was she offering us up as living sacrifices to her vampire friends? Other vampires...

Oh God. How many were there?! My imminent fear is evident, for Annabelle turns to me. "Not living sources, unless they are offering, dear." I see her smile.

She just sighs as she still senses my uneasiness, I couldn't breathe. She bends down to meet my downcast eyes, grasping my shoulders in a soft yet firm hold. " Liza look at me." Annabelle calls softly. I can't

deny the woman's request. Her eyes of blue somehow calm me. All apart of her charm. "I assure you that you won't be witnessing

any feedings while you are here, just blood in a wine glass." I take a heavy breath of relief, as much relief as I was going to get. I reluctantly follow her inside. As

we enter, the bartender immediately notices our presence, I see his pale complexion, his eyes now eyeing me and Evelyn down. I look nervously at Annabelle

who now moves in front of me and my sister predatorily. I know she can sense my fear along with Evelyn's emotions. My breathing I'm afraid will burst out.

"Don't say a word" Annabelle warns us calmly. The bartender comes to the front "Annabelle Hoffman, it's always a pleasure. Who are your, friends?" I hear him ask the

other vampire with intense curiosity. His eyes for a moment wander to mine, a small smirk appears on his face. I remain emotionless. "Pleasure it is" Annabelle

smiles at the man before giving off a dangerous glint in her eye "They are mine and are not to be touched, give them a black band." I see the man's face

become a little disappointed. I am offended at her words. In the time short time I knew Annabelle, I may have been seen as something of importance to her, but I was not her possession. And in this moment I refused to be seen as such. I almost say something but remember her words. I bite

my tongue, my facial expression becoming blank. Evelyn looks a bit on edge as well yet eyeing the man in heightened interest. The man comes towards me, by

instinct I take a step back. He looks at me curiously "This one's a little hesitant isn't she?" He asks as he slightly turns to her. "It's okay Liza, remember my promise." These words somehow put me at a slight ease. The bartender then puts out his hand with the

band in it, I give him my hand reluctantly, him grabbing it in a firm grip. I see his eyes change slightly then go back to his normal shade. I see Annabelle start

to step towards us in warning. I take my hand out of his grip. He then grabs Evelyn and puts her band on. "Enjoy yourselves, take any table you want Miss." The male vampire looks towards me again while I look away from him in disgust. "Excuse me for a moment girls." Annabelle moves ahead of me and Evelyn to pull the male vampire aside. I could see her expression of once calm turned into cold as she approached him, talking very close to him so we could not hear. His expression turns grim as he looks right towards me before turning his gaze immediately away. Whatever Annabelle had told him scared him straight. And from the look he gave me, I could tell she truly did not like the way he dealt with me. I am afraid, does Annabelle truly have a claim over me? Annabelle finally turns back to us. "What did you say to him?" I asked nervously Annabelle just smirks. "Nothing to be concerned about love. Let's go grab a table shall we?" "Is there a bathroom?" Evelyn asks "Indeed, Demetria." The maid guides Evelyn along as I walk withShe
turns both me and Evelyn away as we head for the furthest table in the

room. As we walk, I ask Annabelle again. She just talks quietly to me in my ear. "Did you think I'd let him get away with how he looked at you? Let's just say he won't do it again, unless he wants to be without his eyes, or a job." "Job?" "Let's just say I own many things in this city, and I do not let what I own be disrespected." I gulp, yet Annabelle speaks closely to me again in a voice only for my ears as she looks around the room to the other parties. " I need you to relax dear. Vampires can smell your fear, among other things. It almost makes it difficult for me not to send Evelyn home with Demetria, skip this formal outing and finally have you all to myself." i become more panicked than relaxed, I look to Annabelle who is just smiling. "I'm joking Liza. As you have seen I have far more restraint than the average immortal." I had a immense feeling she wasn't joking, her eyes a darkened blue the whole day stealing prolonged glances at me once again. It seemed rather she was softening the blow to calm my heart beat. Yet it only made matters worse. I know she can sense this, pulling me in as I feel many eyes upon us. She talks above my ear through her embrace. "I promise, I nor certainly anyone here will lie a harmful hand on you tonight, for they know better not to cross me." Menus are place, a beautiful golden chandelier darkly lit on top of the room. It was huge. I see certain guests eyeing our table, also eyeing the bands that

wrap around mine and Evelyn's wrists. I am terrified, but have to keep quiet to keep Annabelle not suspicious. Everything on the menu looked deletable. I

haven't had an extravagant meal like this ever since the Golden Gala. "See something you like?" I hear Annabelle in amusement, raising an eyebrow at me. The ease I felt a few moments ago soon faded.

Evelyn was too distracted to notice as she was lost in the menu. A waiter dressed in a grey wool dress suit came towards our table. Her complexion was simular to mine, normal features, I could

tell she was human to my relief yet dismay. Do they feed from the waiters here, why would she put herself at such risk being around these creatures. I see

Annabelle smiling at her alluringly, eyeing her up and down. "May I start something to drink for you, ladies?" She looked at our bands, then at Annabelle.

Annabelle eyes flash to a glowing crimson as she begins to speak to the woman.1953, freshest you got. I promise the reward will be worth it." 1953, that was the present year. I know that it's not wine, but fresh blood from who knows where. Annabelle gives her a rather charming smirk, rather evident the waiter is trying to remain professional. She responds finally, still being affected by the vampire's undeniable charm. "From the bottle Miss Hoffmann? Or do you have a room? If you so desire I could be at your service this night." I look to the waiter then Annabelle in horror as her eyes glow crimson, watching as she just looks at the human woman like she was intrigued to accept the offer.I am about to stand up from the table in protest, yet I hear a chuckle come out of Annabelle as she just shakes her head, her eyes going back to normal. " The bottle will do just fine Mary. Some other time when I don't have company." She winks at the waiter, making her smile yet it fades as she eyes me and Evelyn with a faint hint of jealousy. I know the waiter thought we were her meal ticket, making my stomach turn violently. The thought that people saw that Annabelle "owned us" made me feel physically ill. But it also sent me reassurance that no vampire would be coming after us tonight, only if they wanted their heart ripped out. Annabelle may be alluring but she's also very dangerous, capable of anything particularly to protect what she claimed as hers. The worst part is I am starting to become comfortable with the idea. "Are you mad?! She's a vampire! A bloodthirsty monster who will drain you if given the opportunity! Don't fall for her charm, you're better than that." "And for you?" The waiter says in a heightened voice as I am distracted by my thoughts "Water will be fine" I say, sort of nervous. The waiter bowed as she

made her way to the bar, whispering to the tender from earlier. Annabelle places her hat back on while I eye her rather irritated. "So how does this work, you ask for the freshest and they pull a human from the back? Or do you usually use your charm in attempt to prey off the female waiters?" I scoff trying to play off my fear. Evelyn looks over to me nervously as

Annabelle just looks down, running a finger around her glass as a small smirk forms at her lips. "I don't have to do much of anything my dear. In fact, most come here offering themselves willingly." I don't expect this response, a lump in my throat as I try to not lose

my sanity. Annabelle just let's out a noise of amusement."Donors are a wonderful blessing in this time and age. Vampires can go to a bar like this and not have to physically

hurt anyone, not fatally anyway. Many especially like this method when they want to mingle with both vampire and human kind. It also helps keeps the peace in

society between our kind and other sanctions. But yes, humans do come here to offer their blood. They get paid for their services, just like the

waiters do. But they come not for the money, but mainly for the rush that comes with it" My worst fears came true. Annabelle "This is completely safe, they have a no kill policy. You can take what you need if you want to feed directly from the source in

a closed environment. Violators suffer major consequences. It brings you sustenance, along with the thrill of a fresh meal. You can even indulge in the finer pleasures of life while giving a human the

same in return. It's a win for everybody I suppose. Keeps our kind discreet when we want to be." "You don't like to be discreet, do you?" It just comes out, remembering

the night I first saw her taking a life. I don't think I'll ever let her live, or unlive it down. I will never forget her eyes, her gaze on me now showing the same hint of

lust. "I never said I was an angel, dear" Her words stopped me from speaking further just as the waiter comes back with three glasses, one with a fine crimson.

No harm will come to you or Evelyn under my care
