57: Phoebe Breaks A Leg

Is a sidekick a friend, or just something they're willing to do for the person?

If they know they're your sidekick, does it matter to them how you treat them?

I don't give Pheebs the appreciation she deserves; let alone return the favor (literally).

"These are duller than afternoon tea with my granny!"

"Hop to it Pheebs I'm starving!"

"They're only a few weeks overdue; shouldn't cost you more than ten or twenty bucks."

Let's just say, while I may have a soft side, I could afford to work on my empathy.

After practically demanding Pheebs to run a few errands for me before school one morning (what a considered to be a simple favor), I came to find my selfishness had led to a tragic situation and evidence of my being the cause of it laying all over the street.

"Mm..mm..mmm! Getting run over by a bus doing errands for Helga Pataki! That is truly sad!"

The hospital at the moment seemed more important than class. Even more so than picking up my belongings which I had left laying all over the street.

Once I made it there, Pheebs found me in another patient's room (who looked much worse than her), and insisted she was fine.

That wasn't going to erase my guilt…

"This is my fault and I'm going to make it up to you! Until that cast comes off, I Helga G. Pataki am going to treat you like a queen! And don't try to talk me out of it!"

Being the modest person that she is, Pheebs couldn't believe the things I was able to pull off…

"You reorganized my desk and stocked it with fresh supplies?

"Wow Helga! That's quite a selection of food!"

"You reserved us the incredibly exclusive left side front seat?!"

Sure, by the time I was holding up books she wanted to read in the library, I was beginning to get a little sick of it all.

I couldn't let her know that. She got ran over a bus doing my errands for crying out loud!

My never ending guilty conscience wasn't going to open my eyes to the fact that she was eventually prolonging her injury to give me a taste of my own medicine.

Man. I didn't even know Pheebs had a Vindictive side? I must really be rubbing off on her!

I'd say it wasn't necessary, since in the end I broke my own leg, becoming so worked up over doing favors for her, that I walked into the street (without thinking twice about what could happen).

"So I faked the whole things, because in the end, I found I really liked you doing things for me for a change."

"Wait, are you saying you felt like I was taking advantage of you or something?"

"Well yes."

Aside from the few 'requests' made on the way out of the hospital, I told her it would be even Steven from that point on. Hey I broke my leg for crying out loud!
