Chapter 18

I was tired. It was 5:00 am in the morning. Sanae basically had to drag me out of bed. We did our daily routine and got ready to say our goodbyes to Reimu and Marisa. By that time Reimu was awake and asked "You're leaving already?" Sanae responded "Ya, we've got to get Hibiki's supplies for school.". Reimu then asked " You 2 have gotten close haven't you?". None of us really understood what Reimu is trying to hint at, Sanae answers truthfully "Yep she kinda is like a younger sister to me" She said with a smile. Reimu then said smirking "Okay then you 2 have fun. I'll be here if you need anything. Oh and one more thing." She came closer to me and patted my head " you don't need to call me Miss Hakurei, it's getting kind of embarrassing. Just call me Reimu ok?" I nodded, then Reimu continued "Be good ok?" I replied "I will, Thank you Reimu" and we left. Sanae brought me to a shop in the human village. She told me that this is a place to buy the supplies I needed. Sanae told me to go look for a backpack or something to carry my books. While I did that Sanae would gather the other supplies for me. While I looked for one I saw this briefcase. It was somewhat big, basically half my size. It was yellow with a red handle. Though it was very rusty and most of the color was very tame and dull. I took it off the shelf and it was very light-I was afraid it might break-I brought it to Sanae and she just had a most confused look on her face. I hid myself behind the briefcase out of embarrassment. The old man at the counter laughed and said " You have a good eye Little Missy. That's a one of a kind briefcase. Not only that, it could store pretty much anything. Hey hold on, aren't you the one who saved the human village?" I hid behind Sanae and radpied shook my head denying it. The old man laughed and told Sanae to take the briefcase for free. Sanae asked " are you sure? It sounds expensive." The old man reassured her that it was fine since no one wanted to buy it. Sanae helped me put all my supplies in the briefcase. To our surprise the briefcase organizes itself and makes sure that nothing breaks. Sanae even tried shaking the briefcase around and throwing it but nothing changed. It also doesn't have any compartment either. Me and Sanae made it to school just in time. I slightly opened the door and Kenie said " Today as you know you will have exams for all your classes. She then turned her head and saw me peeking in. She then turned back to the class and said "But today we will also be having a new student joining us. I hope you all treat her with respect.". Sanae pushed me forward and gave me a thumbs up and I slowly walked forward with my head facing down. Everyone's attention was on me and constantly murmuring. My mind wonders, asking myself, are they talking about me? Why? Why do I have to be here? Are they making fun of me? Why can't it stop? Why?! I was about to run outside away from this place but I heard Sanae's voice "you got this Hibiki" it was a whisper but it was loud enough to block out all the voices in my head. I looked up at Kenie and stuttered, " it's… nice to meet you… Miss Kamishirasawa." Keine smiled and said " It's nice to meet you too Hibiki but instead of saying nice to meet you try saying good morning. Practice with the class." She then turned me to face the class. I wanted to say Good morning but my voice froze. Words wouldn't come out of my mouth. I turned to Kenie who just smiled at me and said "go on". I then turned to Sanae who worded out the words "You've got this" I then attempted to speak "Good… morning class" I think only ended up whispering it but I guess that was enough for Kenie who told me to sit next to the Daiyousei Kenie her told her to raise her hand so I could find her. Next to her was a girl with short cyan hair and next to her was a girl with blonde/brownish? hair. I wasn't really sure, She had a cap on. They all had wings though the wings were different. I walked over and at this point I noticed that Sanae had left. When I got there Daiyousei seemed timed and leaded more towards her friends. I sat on the far edge of the table. After we've gotten settled Kenie handed out the test and she told everyone that we're starting with math. The cyan haired girl signed lying on the table,whining "it's too early for this!". The girl with the hat was leaning on the table rested her head on her hands and also whined " I don't wanna!". Kenie smirked and said " I could collect homework if you like?" Both of them shot up and said "we'll take the test! thank you Ma'am!". Daiyousei seemed nervous. At first I thought it was about the test but now I realize it was because I was here. I stared at the table. I started to wonder what Kenie meant by level of education. It is clear I don't belong here. I should just leave. While I was drowning in my thoughts Keine clapped her hands and said " The test has begun. You have one hour to complete it.". I started it. This test had a bunch of numbers on it. The words didn't make sense to me but based on how the numbers were arranged I could figure out what they wanted from me. I finished the test, which was a 50 question short answer, in about 20 minutes. Kenie announced the time when every 10 minutes had passed. I got up and Keine told me " please seat me during the exam." I replied"but…" I couldn't finish what I wanted to say. Keine then said " If you have a question, raise your hand and I will come to you". I did so, when she came over I asked "what should I do when I'm finished?". She then told me that since this is a big exam and one she can't collect right away. I should check it over or put my head down. I already checked it over and I wasn't really tired or anything. So I decided to draw. I made little doodles like me and Sanae playing video games, Reisen strolling through the bamboo forest, Reimu poking Marisa with a stick trying to wake her up. Stuff like that. When time was up my test paper was filled with drawings. Next was Japanese, 50 questions, multiple choices. I have the feeling that I didn't do so well. I couldn't understand what the question was. Everything seemed so blurry and incoherent. None of it made sense to me. I asked Keine what I'm supposed to be doing and she said " You're supposed to correct the sentences" I asked her "what's a sentence?" Kenie looked at me very confused and concerned. I probably could figure it out but at this point my brain was fried. Kenie then said" These test's won't count for you. It's just to see what you can and can't do." After that she left and I gave up. Next up was Science. And for this one she gave me multiple packets and she told me to complete whatever I can. The first 2 packets didn't make sense to me but, the last two kinda did. One of them had a chart that seemed usable. The other one had a diagram so I solved for whatever I could find. After the Science exam was over Keine told everyone to take a 20 minute break. The cyan hair girl collapsed on the table and said " Finally! Freedom…". The girl with the cap and Daiyousei agreed. I sat there quietly. I wanted them to forget I was there. I felt like I was intruding on their friendship. I'm… not supposed to be here. I thought to myself. Why did Miss Kamishirasawa want me here? What's the purpose? I… I want to go home. These thoughts tried to persuade me to leave but I kept thinking about all the effort everyone went to get me here. My head hurts with all these thoughts. On one hand everyone puts so much effort into making me go here and I don't want them to feel like it was all a waste. On the other hand I feel isolated… like I'm alone again. Again? Have I felt this alone before? Keine clapped her hands and said " your 20 minutes are up. The next exam is about to begin." The other students all got back into their seats. I was already in my seat so I didn't move. Honestly I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't realize that the test had started. When I actually looked at the packet there were already circles on my packet so I just circled them again. After the test was over we handed in our tests. Me, Daiyousei, and her friends were the last people to do so. Before they left Kenie suggested something " Why don't the 4 of you head home together?" They all shouted the same thing "Wh-What!". Keine then explains my relationship with Remiu and if they're mean to me then I will tell Remiu she might exterminate them. I was shocked and assured them that I wouldn't do that. They still decided to take me with them. After we got out of school I immediately apologized to them. The girl with the cap said" It's alright, You don't act like someone who is super bossy so you're all good in my book. By the way my name is White Lily but just call me Lily" She ended it with a smile. Daiyousei said " Miss Kamishirasawa is right though, in the sense that we should get to know more about each other. My Name is Daiyousei but you can call me Dai. That's what my friends call me." The cyan haired girl said" and that leaves me. I'm Cirno and I'm the strongest!" I asked, " is that actually true?" Lily said cheerful" No, but just let her have it" we laughed and continued to the mansion.
