Beyond Earth in the Galaxy a man with brown hair wearing a dark blue uniform chuckled as he started his story "you know growing up in the small town on Earth; I always dreamed of exploring the wide area of the stars in the sky... My mum was my best friend and she shared with me her love of music and told me of how my dad came to me from the stars saying that he was a Prince; he had to leave to assume his home's throne but left behind me in her belly. No one else believed the story but when I was a kid our home was invaded; enemies of my dad's home came to our home and Mum got me to hide in safety but I had to watch as the monsters gunned her down and left thinking that there was no one else there. No one believed my story and my mum's murder was a cold case and while I went to stay with my grandpa; I thought of nothing but going to the stars and avenging my Mum. I managed to be part of a crew in NASA and destiny struck when one day a being calling himself the Master of the Sun came to us saying that he was there to bestow the title of Star-Lord on a chosen candidate. I though that this was destiny realised but the crew decided on another unworthy loser and how could I let some joker steal my story from me? I attacked the crew and managed to get to the spot where I was given the uniform and equipment to travel the stars as Peter Jason Quill the Star-Lord. Having many adventures since then and it has brought me to Knowhere which is a community operating out of the carved out decapitated Celestial head as in a cosmic space god which is not something I expected to find..."
He was currently handcuffed surrounded by armed guards as he was sitting down at an office facing a dog in a spacesuit who was the place's head of security; "Fascinating story Mr Quill but I wonder if you truly thought it was enough to excuse the thousands of Units worth of property damage in the bar fight that you instigated and that's nothing compared to the tab that you owe." the dog Cosmo telepathically spoke to Quill in a Russian accent.
"Bill it to my dad; he's the ruler of an entire empire you know..." Quill retorted as Cosmo looked to her documents in holograms.
"There is a notice throughout the galaxy direct from Emperor J'Son of the Spartax Empire stating not to give his son's bills to the Empire anymore." Cosmo replied shaking her head. "I will say this Mr Quill as you have quite a reputation." Cosmo told him as Quill grinned.
"I am a famous space hero..." Quill bragged and Cosmo just looked at him.
"You clearly misspoke Mr Quill and meant 'infamous'; you have countless 'kill on sight' orders on various planets, The Nova Corps have an arrest warrant for you and you have actually managed to unite the Skrull and Kree Empires in their hatred of you which is most impressive considering their war against eachother that had been spanning hundreds of years." Cosmo told Quill as he gulped.
"Can you please just do me a solid and let me go; we both came form Earth and found a higher calling in space..." Quill pleaded and Cosmo turned her head making him angry. "What did I expect considering you are a literal bitch..." Quill mocked and this got Cosmo angry as she started barking at him.
"You hurt Cosmo's feelings and I should just turn you over to the Nova Corps." Cosmo asked and Quill gulped as there was no love lost between him and that intergalactic space force. "However there is one who wants to give you a chance and be grateful that he has clouth; five years under his supervision and your debt is cleared and we put in good word to Nova Corps." Cosmo offered as Quill was excited.
"Bring the sucker in..." Quill grinned and then entered was a golden skinned and godlen haired humanoid in a black suit and dark red cloak holding a staff. "Oh great him... The famous Adam Warlock..." Quill groaned as he was famous for being basically a universe wide superhero.
Quill grunted as he was using his rocket boots to fly in space whiel wearing a silver high tech helmet with Adam flying near him. "Star-Lord; you wish to call yourself? I sense bitterness in your soul and anger; is it because you grew up belittled for your mother's stories and your insistence on being a half-alien prince, hoping to avenge your mother's death by the Badoon the enemies of the Spartax Empire. Being reunited with your father Emperor J'Son and realising that he was not what you expected?" Adam asked Quill and he got angry.
"Shut up Warlock! You don't know as much about me as you think..." Quill snapped as this was a sore spot for him; meeting his father only to find out that he saw her mother as a small fling and never cared to come back to her and only caring that she had birthed him a possible heir. Being offered a spot by his side in the Empire only to find out he was a massive corrupt jackass and it left him wanting; wondering what was he supposed to do as the Star-Lord.
"Feeling lost as you thought your purpose was a lie; I was created on your home planet of Earth or Terra as various species called it. My creators the Enclave wished for me to be the progenitor of a super advanced race that would allow them to conquer Earth but I wanted no part of it; I left to find my own destiny. Taken in by various planets and working to earn the title of Warlock, I saw myself as not a conqueror as intended but a protector of peace, order and stability in the universe." Adam told him as Quill sighed.
"Cool story but what does that have to do with me? Why did you volunteer to be my babysitter?" Quill demanded looking his way.
"Our destinies could be our own to decide; you could still be the hero that you always desired to be and I could help guide you to behave yourself and see what good you can bring to the galaxy." Adam suggested as Quill laughed.
"As guardians of the Galaxy? The two of us?" Quill asked as Adam then sighed.
"Our paths maybe more intertwined than you might think. Behold; the Enclave never knew the scope of the power but this is what they used to help create me... The Soul Stone; one of the universe's 6 Infinity Stones..." Adam said showing him the glowing orange Soul Stone in his hand which Quill could see the power radiating off it. "In the early days of the universe there were 2 brothers who were the first born on their small planet each with power; one was the Magus and the other the Master of the Sun." Adam told him and this got Quill attention. "The Magus saw it as their right to rule over the universe but the Master of the Sun saw it to guide the universe; the Magus came across artefacts of the previous universe which allowed him to kill Celestials and steal power and then one day came across the Soul Stone and bonded his escence to it. The Magus and the Master of the Sun fought with their physical bodies being destroyed by the Master of the Sun trapped his brother into the Soul Stone. However the Magus' followers that he had gathered formed the Universal Church of Truth; hoping to one day free the Magus so he can claim universal domination. I can always feel the Magus in this; fighting to claim my body as a vessel and wanting to influence my thoughts which horrifies me. Many times I have clashed with the Universal Church who sees me as his destined vessel. I refuse to let another evil force decide my destiny for me." Adam explained to him and Quill took it in.
"So; I don't totally believe your story but if you're right then I was given my title by an Alien god and in your fancy Soul Stone; there is the Alien Devil in there and we are connected that way? Right..." Quill muttered shaking his head.
"Believe what you want; come... Our journey together starts on a planet being attacked by the Badoon who wish to conquer..." Adam told him and Quill was all for fighting the Badoon any day and who knows; maybe being Adam Warlock's partner will give him some superhero space cred.
The original version of Star-Lord was intentionally created to be a massive jerk who was supposed to grow into a more heroic person but Steve Englehart left Marvel and so it didn't come to be and off course he would be reworked into the modern version who would be leading the modern version of the Guardians of the Galaxy. I not only mixed his original and revised modern backstory together but reworked the Master of the Sun from the original backstory to having his origin tied to the Magus.
