In Washington, D.C., a ghostly monster known as Behemoth was going on a rampage as people ran in terror from the hideous beast.
Xavier was back in the institute, watching as a news lady in a raincoat explained what was going on.
"Today, in what could be the worst day in the history of our nation's capital!" She reported. "A giant monster has arrived and has caused untold havoc and property damage. So far, we have no explanation for the creature's origins."
The X-Men, minus Gambit and Jean, were in the Blackbird watching the report as a man interrupted the broadcast.
"It's those freaky mutants, man!" He ranted. "They're doing this."
Cyclops shook his head as he turned it off. "It never changes."
"What are they gonna blame us for next?" Danny asked bitterly. "World hunger? The Ice Age? Puberty?"
The Blackbird came across the creature and fired at it. The Behemoth roared in outrage and shot two ghost rays at it, but the Blackbird maneuvered out of the way.
"Whoa!" Jubilee cried. "No offense, Cyke, but I'm about to lose my lunch!"
"Who do I have to pay to get off this ride?" Wolverine grumbled, also feeling uncomfortable at the Blackbird's twisting and turning.
"Calm yourself, Logan." Storm advised him. "It will be over soon."
"So how do we get this guy back to the Ghost Zone?" Rogue asked Danny. "Can he fit in the thermos?"
Danny shrugged. "I don't know."
"Luckily, I have equipped the Blackbird with the ability to create miniature portals to send it back to the Ghost Zone." Beast said as the Blackbird fired the mini portal, which tried to suck up Behemoth, but the monster was able to fight its hold as the portal faded away, losing stability. "However, given the creature's ferocity, I believe we may have to weaken it in order for it to take effect."
"Behemoth." Danny corrected. "Its name is the Behemoth."
"How do you know that?" Jubilee asked.
"Remember when Vlad got the skeleton key to release Pariah Dark?" Danny asked her, prompting Jubilee to nod in confirmation. "Well, it turns out he had to deal with this thing to get to it."
"Alright, people, were approaching it again." Cyclops announced. "Danny, move into position; we'll cover you in the Blackbird."
Danny saluted. "Eye, eye, captain." He phased through the roof of the Blackbird and headed straight toward the Behemoth.
"Hey, big guy, over here!" He yelled at the monster, getting its attention. He fired some ecto-blasts, but they did no damage as the creature swiped him with its tail, sending him crashing into a building and damaging his communicator.
Danny sighed as he got close to it again. "I guess I'll have to pull out something stronger." He charged up a massive ecto-blast and blasted Behemoth, knocking it out as it fell to the ground.
The Blackbird then fired another portal, which succeeded in sucking Behemoth up before closing.
Danny wiped his forehead in relief. "Glad that's over with."
"Nice work, Danny Fenton." A female voice said behind him.
"What?" Danny turned around and was greeted with the sight of a beautiful woman with long brown hair wearing what resembled ancient Greek armor.
"That's your name, isn't it?" The woman asked. "Danny Fenton or Danny Phantom? Or does it depend on which form you're in?"
"I don't know what you're talking about." Danny denied.
She merely smiled as she shook her head. "There's no need to lie. Your secret is safe with me."
Danny was curious about the woman and how she knew who he was. "Who are you?"
"I am Aricia, and I was wondering if I could talk to you about something in private." She said.
"Nice work, Beast!" Cyclops praised back on the Blackbird.
"Yes, I am glad that it worked!" Beast replied.
"You mean you haven't tested it before?" Cyclops asked.
"Well, I, uh, did now." Beast stuttered shyly.
Cyclops shook his head. "Alright, we've got the Behemoth taken care of; let's call Danny back and we'll head home." He pressed a button on his communicator. "Danny, come in." He got no response. "Danny? Where are you?" There was still no response, as Cyclops started to get worried. "Danny, get back here immediately!"
"Who are you?" Danny asked Aricia as they were talking at the Washington Monument.
"I have traveled across dimensions of space to find you." Aricia explained. "You see, I am the ruler of Polemachus. My planet is under attack by an army of ghosts. We've been fighting for years, and we have not been successful in gaining a victory. During one of our interrogations with one of these creatures, it mentioned you, a being neither alive nor dead, but both. It also told us that you were experienced in protecting people from these things, so I went out to search for you, and here we are now."
"So you want me to free your planet?" Danny asked, feeling like it couldn't be that simple.
"Essentially yes." Aricia confirmed.
Danny sighed. He felt that this was all fishy, but he couldn't deny help to someone.
"Alright, just let me call my friends to let them know." He activated his communicator on his belt. "Cyclops, do you read me?" He got no answer. He took his belt off to examine the damage. "Crap! My communicator got wrecked during the fight. I'll have to go find them."
"There is no time." Aricia pulled off one of the yellow orbs from her belt and threw it to the ground, forming a portal. "You must come with me."
"Hey, wait!" Danny was dragged against his will as another yellow orb fell off Aricia's belt and landed next to Danny's belt.
The two went into the portal as it closed.
The Blackbird was flying over the district, looking for any trace of their ghostly friend.
"Where could he be?" Rogue was getting concerned about her boyfriend. What if something horrible had happened to him? Sure, Danny was extremely powerful, but that didn't stop her from worrying about him.
'What if Dan broke out of the Astral Plane and kidnapped him?' She thought to herself.
"He should be around here somewhere, Rogue." Storm assured her
"It's not like him to just disappear." Rogue muttered.
"But he's a ghost; isn't that what they do?" Wolverine joked, getting everyone to glare at him, clearly not amused with him.
"Shut up, Logan." Rogue said.
"If it were Casper saying this, you'd all be laughing along with him." Wolverine grumbled.
"I'm with Rogue." Jubilee said. "Danny would at least answer his communicator."
"Maybe it was damaged in the fight with the Behemoth, and he's looking around for us like we are for him." Cyclops deduced.
"Beast, can you pull up his ecto-signature?" Rogue asked the hairy mutant. "We should be able to find him with that."
Beast pulled up the radar on the Blackbird computer, only for him to frown. "Strange."
"Strange?" Rogue was getting anxious. "What's strange?"
"It appears that Danny is no longer in the area." Beast informed everyone.
"What?" Rogue now had a panicked look in her eyes as she imagined all the worst possibilities.
"Have you tried tracking him through his communicator?" Cyclops asked.
Beast tried that. "Oh, he is quite close. Weird how this says he's still here, but the ghost radar says he's not."
"Which one is right?" Jubilee asked.
"I think they both are, Jubilee." Cyclops assumed. "He must not be here, but his communicator still is."
Rogue decided to take action in order to find her boyfriend and bring him back home.
"Scott, land the Blackbird." Rogue ordered. "We'll find his communicator and see what Wolverine picks up with his nose."
As they prepared to land, Beast made a progress report to Xavier. "Professor, the creature has been apprehended."
"That is excellent news." Xavier said back in the War Room. "But I see that Danny is not with you." He could see that the homing device in his communicator was far away from the others.
"As you may have deduced, he left the Blackbird to personally fight with the Behemoth, only to disappear after it was over." Beast informed him. "Our attempts to reach him have failed thus far. But we've determined the location of his communicator to be near the Washington Monument and are en route there to find answers."
"Keep me informed." Xavier requested.
"Certainly, professor." Beast replied. "I have expanded the range of the radar and found that Danny's ecto-signature is nowhere on Earth."
"Because if the radar can't find him, then that must mean he's thousands of miles away."
This only made Rogue's worry even worse. "Scott, land the plane!"
They landed the plane, with Rogue immediately getting off as they followed the coordinates to where Danny's communicator was.
Rogue spotted the belt and held it up for the others. "I found Danny's communicator." She shoved it into Wolverine's face. "Any sign of Danny? Come on, Wolverine, sniff him out!"
Wolverine pushed the belt away as he sniffed the area. "I got nothing. It's like he just disappeared off the face of the Earth."
"Oh, no." Rogue moaned. "Danny."
"This is most unusual." Beast gestured to the yellow orb.
Rogue picked it up. "Either somebody likes to play back nine at midnight, or this has something to do with what happened to Danny."
Xavier entered Beast's lab. "Any luck, Beast?"
"It is most perplexing, professor." Beast answered as the X-Men surrounded him. "A simple beam of light can easily pass through it, yet it completely occludes the radioactive energy of an x-ray. Its matter contains no recognizable elements. And, alas, every attempt to identify its primary energy source has proved futile."
"How much longer are we gonna play with that golf ball?" Rogue asked indignantly, getting impatient about finding Danny's whereabouts.
"Try to be patient, Rogue." Xavier advised. "Beast is doing the best he can."
"I'm sorry." Rogue apologized. "It's just that I'm scared we might never see Danny again."
"I know how you feel, Rogue." Jubilee said, feeling worried about her brother. "But I know we'll see him again, Rogue; don't worry."
"You just need to stop acting frantic." Wolverine said.
This only pissed off Rogue, as she glared at Logan with daggers in her eyes. "Frantic? You try and be calm when the love of your life and all everyone else seems to want to do is play chemistry instead of getting us anywhere."
She slammed the table down as the orb fell to the ground, creating a portal.
Rogue stepped back, regretting losing her temper. "What'd I do?"
"Your impatience may have opened a door." Xavier answered.
"But to where?" Beast asked.
"To Danny." Rogue was now excited that they had found a way to get him back. "That's why he left it for us."
"We cannot be sure he left it." Xavier said.
"Well, send me a postcard when you find out." Rogue retorted. "In the meantime, I'm gonna find my boyfriend." She then entered the portal to find Danny.
"Come on!" Jubilee was next to go in.
Beast strapped on a backpack. "Logic is on Rogue's side. Shall we?" He asked Cyclops.
"Let's go!" Cyclops and Beast entered next.
Wolverine shrugged. "I got nothing better to do." He entered the portal.
Storm shook her head. "Here we go again." She said before joining the others, leaving Xavier alone as the portal closed.
"Into the unknown." He murmured.
In a room filled with advanced technology, a portal opened and spat out Aricia and Danny.
"What the hell, lady?" Danny exclaimed in irritation. "Why didn't you let me call my friends? If you really needed help, then why not let me get you more?"
"Forgive me, Danny." Aricia apologized. "Your friends may have tried to dissuade you. Please understand that it was the action of a desperate woman. So many lives depend on me. Every solution I have tried has failed. I feel like my brother was wrong to put me in charge."
"Brother?" Danny asked.
"My brother, Arkon." Aricia elaborated. "He had stepped down recently and placed me in charge of Polemachus. He later died of a terrible illness."
Danny gave her a sympathetic look. "I'm sorry to hear that."
"It is not your fault, Danny." Aricia said. "But now I ask you to help us in our time of need. You have saved so many lives with your powers and compassion. When you cast your eyes on my troubled world, you will begin to understand. My people hide the best they can from the angry spirits. I do not know how long they can hold out."
Danny was directed to a window where, up in the sky, millions of ghosts were all flying around as they cast a shadow of depression over the entire planet.
"Holy shit, that's a lot of ghosts." Danny said.
"Can you forgive me now, Danny?" Aricia asked. "Now that you understand what my people have to deal with? Will you, Danny Phantom, help my people?"
Danny nodded. He couldn't leave these people to suffer. "Yes, I will." He then noticed something peculiar. "It's strange, though. This is a large amount of ghosts, and my ghost sense hasn't gone off once."
"Ghost sense?" Aricia prompted.
"It's a blue wisp of air that comes out of my mouth when a ghost is near." Danny explained. "Yet it's not happening here. The only time it doesn't work is when I'm in the Ghost Zone."
"Perhaps the amount of ghosts can't be processed." Aricia suggested. "Have you ever been on an entire planet infested by ghosts?"
Danny shook his head. He could see her point. "No, can't say that I have."
In the city, a portal opened as the X-Men came out.
Jubilee looked up into the sky and gasped. "Holy shit, look at all these ghosts!"
"Strange, my ghost radar isn't detecting a thing." Beast observed.
"Intruders!" A voice cried.
The X-Men turned to see the people of this city march angrily toward them.
"You will pay for bringing these evil spirits!" A citizen blamed.
"Perhaps these visitors can help us." One citizen said to the crowd.
"How dare you speak out!" Another replied. "Get back to work."
Cyclops tried to play peacekeeper. "We have nothing to do with your misfortunes."
"We just arrived in search of a missing friend." Beast said calmly.
"Yeah." Rogue said. "Have any of you seen him? He's a handsome man with white hair and a black jumpsuit."
"Get them!" The crowd tried to make a move when Jubilee got in front of the X-Men.
"Stop!" Jubilee fired off one of her fireworks, which stopped them. "Sorry, but can't we, like, talk this thing out?"
"It would behoove you to turn around, Jubilee." Beast told her.
The X-men turned around to be confronted by floating robots that sported no legs. The machines fired on them.
"Are you sure we're still not on Earth?" Wolverine snarked.
"Let's get out of here!" The crowd ran in fear of the machines.
"Lighting, strike down these monsters of metal!" Storm commanded as lighting came down and destroyed them.
"Nice one, Storm." Jubilee complimented before looking up at the sky. "How come these ghosts aren't really doing anything? They're just flying around in the sky."
"Man, I've never dealt with this many ghosts before." Danny said as he tried to think of a plan. "I don't know how to deal with them. Unless." He thought of something he could do as he considered it. "I guess I can try that."
"What?" Aricia asked urgently.
"My Ghostly Wail." Danny answered. "It's my ultimate attack." He looked up into the sky. "And it looks like I'll have to use it to its full extent, but it takes a lot out of me. So I'll need someone or something to catch me when I go unconscious after using it."
Aricia nodded. "I have a hovercraft we can use to take you there."
"Perfect." Danny then followed her into the hovercraft as they flew towards the sky. Aricia kept the vehicle steady at a certain level as Danny flew above to confront the malevolent ghouls.
"Alright. Here goes nothing." Danny let out his most powerful ghostly wail as the ghosts started to swarm him. As they got closer and closer, Danny kept adding more power to the attack. Eventually, the ghosts started to shriek as they were ripped apart by the attack one by one, while all the others not in the vicinity of the attack started to retreat."
Danny finished the attack, as the planet was now ghost-free. He let out a smile before turning back human as he fell into the hovercraft.
The last thing he felt before going unconscious was something being injected into his neck.
"Something tells me that these guys don't want to talk." Wolverine said as more robots started to approach them.
The X-Men were about to fight when they heard an ungodly noise that forced them to cover their ears. It continued on for several minutes until it stopped.
"What was that?" Jubilee asked a bit loudly, as her ears were ringing.
"That was Danny!" Rogue realized. "His Ghostly Wail! He's here!"
"Looks like he got rid of the ghosts too." Wolverine pointed to the sky, as the ghosts were all gone.
Their moment of peace was interrupted when the robots started to fire at them as they evaded their blasts.
Rogue grabbed one of the robots and threw it into another, causing both to fall apart.
Beast jumped on another, forcing it to the ground and breaking it. He shook his head in dismay. "This is not how I would have wished to learn about this new culture."
"This isn't how I wanted to spend my night after dealing with the Behemoth either, Beast." Rogue said as she started to smash these appliances to smithereens. "I wanted to spend it cuddled up with my Spooky watching some silly romantic comedy. But no, I have to be here on this planet fighting robots trying to find my boyfriend so I can drag him back home."
The rest of the X-Men stopped as they realized that Rogue was taking down all the robots as some sort of stress relief.
Rogue noticed their hesitation. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's turn them into scrap metal!"
"We really need to find Danny." Cyclops muttered to Wolverine. "For her sake and our sakes in case of what she'll do to us if we don't find him."
Wolverine nodded. "Agreed, Cyke."
Beast was now working on his small computer. "If we perform an analysis based on coordinates of entry, we may be able to determine Danny's."
"I say, if someone was enough of a big shot to kidnap Danny, I bet they live in there." Jubilee pointed to a large building in the distance.
"Not particularly scientific, but persuasive nonetheless." Beast replied.
Jubilee smirked. "I thought so!"
A flying ship passed by the X-Men and dropped a yellow orb.
"Take cover!" Cyclops ordered as they tried to run away, but they were caught in the energy it released, transporting them to a prison cell.
"Jail!" Jubilee went up to the bars, which were made of green energy. "I can't believe this! It's worse than Earth!"
She touched them as they shocked her.
"I would exercise extreme caution, Jubilee." Beast recommended.
"We have to find a way to distract our jailers." Cyclops said.
Rogue nodded. "Good idea." She punched Wolverine in the face. "Traitor!"
"What the hell, Rogue?" Wolverine grimaced in pain.
"You're a big boy, sugar." Rogue told him. "You can take it."
The robots came in to break up the fight, allowing Rogue to bash them to pieces as the X-Men left the cell.
"Come on!" Rogue urged the others. "We got to find Danny."
"What are we, chopped liver?" Wolverine muttered as he rubbed his head in pain.
Danny woke up on a throne. "Where am I?"
"It's over, darling." Aricia gave him a loving smile of gratitude. "You saved us."
"I did?" Danny muttered as he was still a bit drowsy from his use of the Ghostly Wail.
The wall next to them broke open as the X-Men burst through.
"Danny!" Rogue made a beeline for Danny as she hugged him.
"Nice dump for a kidnapper." Wolverine said as he looked around the room.
"Danny, thank goodness that you're okay." Rogue said rapidly as she started peppering his face with kisses. "I was getting so worried. How could you run out on us without saying a word?" She turned to Aricia with a deadly look in her eye. "Or did she kidnap you? I swear if she touched you, I'll..."
Danny interrupted her. "Rogue, calm down."
"Your friends seem overprotective." Aricia noted.
"Well, I don't like it when my boyfriend is yanked off the planet, Missy!" Rogue replied testily.
"Rogue, please relax." Danny tried to calm her down. "She didn't mean me any harm; she just wanted me to get rid of the ghosts here."
"Accept our apologies, Danny." Beast said. "You must realize that when we lost contact with you, we feared your life was in jeopardy."
"We wanted to make sure you were okay, Danny." Jubilee said.
"Friends worry about friends, Danny." Storm told him. "It is as simple as that."
"Plus, Rogue would end up wrecking the institute if we didn't bring you back." Cyclops added.
"Yeah, bub." Wolverine said. "We weren't gonna let you leave us alone with your angry girlfriend."
Rogue hugged Danny. "I'm just glad you're okay, honey."
Later, Aricia was leading Danny and the X-Men to where a crowd was forming. "Danny, with your help, you have saved Polemachus! Now, her people would like to thank you."
"Phantom! Phantom! Phantom!" The people chanted.
Danny blushed at the praise. "If only Amity Park was like this."
"Wow! Do you hear that?" Jubilee said in awe to the others.
"Indeed." Beast replied. "Danny is most deserving of their praise."
Rogue nodded. "Right, but..."
"But what?" Jubilee asked her.
"How long are we gonna hang out here before we can go home?" Rogue said.
"Party pooper." Jubilee muttered.
"Rogue's right." Cyclops said. "We have no mission here. We must get word to the professor."
"Ah, but look, I think that lady really likes Danny!" Jubilee pointed to Aricia.
"Jubilee." Wolverine elbowed her before gesturing to Rogue, who was giving Aricia a jealous as she watched her place an arm around Danny.
"I'm sorry, Rogue." Jubilee apologized. "But I'm sure Danny is waiting to get back home with you."
Rogue gave a smile to Jubilee as she ruffled her hair. "You're right, Jubilee." She turned to the others. "I'm sorry, y'all, for acting the way I did."
"Apology accepted, Rogue." Storm forgave.
"I would've been the same way if it was Jean that was missing." Cyclops said.
Beast held no animosity toward Rogue. "It is understandable that given your close nature with Danny and the circumstances of his disappearance, you would be worried."
"Did you have to punch me in the face?" Wolverine asked angrily.
Rogue smirked. "Consider it payback for all the times you pissed me off over the years.
Wolverine could accept that. "Fair enough."
"Danny, I don't know how Earth celebrates your incredible deeds." Aricia said to him.
"They don't." Danny said.
"Well, I do." Rogue went up to him as she rubbed her hand on his chest. "Now let's go home, and I'll give you the perfect reward, sugar."
"But I tell you, Polemachus will love and worship you now and forever." Aricia said. "And so will I. No one has ever done for me what you have. Your courage and compassion has given my people back to me. Your handsomeness has stolen my heart."
Rogue raised an eyebrow at that. "Excuse me?"
"Danny, will you rule by my side as emperor?" Aricia proposed. "Will you help me save this world as you did? I know this is sudden, but I truly do love you. With all my heart."
Rogue folded her arms. "Sorry, Missy, but he's my boyfriend, and he isn't leaving me for anyone."
"Of course I will marry you." Danny answered happily.
"What!" Rogue shouted as tears started to form.
Aricia embraced Danny as she turned to the crowd. "I present to you your new king, Danny Phantom!"
