The lush green mountains, the traditional looking buildings and the large Academy perked on the twin cliffs. A beautiful sight for any who would lay eye's on it.
Though Accelerator didn't care much for the sights, he was only intrested in what this city could give him. Though reaching the city proved easy enough, entering it was even more so. But as he walked through the streets he could not help but notice the amount of stares he recieved.
Normally he would not think it strange, as his appearance did stand out. With white hair he was always bound to stand out, not to mention he was wearing winter clothes while the Sun was practically glaring at all below. But then again this is a world filled with monsters that feed on negative emotions, people with supernatural abilities and people possessing animal traits, he doubted his appearance would stand out as much in a world like this. But whatever the case he had no time to pursue why he was receiving so much attention.
So the esper merely continued his strolling. He had no real destination in mind, this city was unknown to him after all. Though he would've liked to find a place to sleep at but with no money to his name, that seemed impossible. And even finding a job would be nigh impossible, but then again him with a job seemed far too uncharacteristic.
("Nothing can ever be easy, huh?") The boy mused as his eye's began to wander .("So normal.") The way the people behaved so ordinary despite this being a different world all together. The people went about their business normally, some chatted away while other's laughed together but as the lively atmosphere began to diminish Accelerator found himself in what looked like a way poorer section of the city. Houses that looked warn down, streets litterd with trash and the people not looking any better themselves.
Though Accelerator was quick to ignore the condition of the town due to a commotion getting his attention.
"Why in blazes aren't you doing anything!" A loud female voice exclaimed as several mutters followed. Lazily turning his head towards the source of the loud voice he took notice of a small commotion. A dozen or so people were surrounding what Accelerator assumed was some kind of officer's given their green uniform like outfits.
"Please calm down. We're doing what we can." One of the uniformed men stated trying to calm down the masses.
"Doing what you can? That bullshit!" A man from the crowd exclaimed as another spoke up.
"These White fang scum kidnapped our damn family's and friends! And yet you stand here with you thumbs up your asses!"
"He's right! We can't even hire any Huntsmen! And we know where they are so what's stopping you!"
More yells entered the fray as Accelerator watched on. From what he could discern some group has been capturing civilians for a ransom or some other kind of barganing. Though they seemed to know where this base of their's were it didn't seem like the guards of this city couldn't or didn't want to help. Accelerator was betting on the latter, looking at these people they must've seen better days. Their clothes were ragged and dirty, as well as their hair and bodies. It was clear they were this city's lower class citizens, but that was just based on appearances.
Then again it would explain the guards attitudes. They seemed apathetic and aloof to the countless pleas of the townsfolk, they merely offerd false promises. Accelerator watched as the crowd slowly dispersed, all of them downtrodden.
Approaching the nearest one. An elderly man with balding head the esper addressed the man.
"What was with that commotion?" The elderly man turned to Accelerator with an exasperated face. His eyes squinted at him as if trying to recognize him from somewhere but he relented as he spoke.
"I suppose it's no surprise that a youngin' doesn't know." He started with a sigh before continuing. "The White Fang have grown more bold it seems. Terrorism and even kidnappings now. As you probably heard the one's who were kidnapped were some of our people." He explained with a distraught face.
("White fang? Never heard of them.") But whoever they were it seemed unproductive to kidnap these people. They seemed to be all from the slums of the city meaning those who were kidnapped most probably were too. So were these White Fang trying to get a ransom for these kinds of people? Whatever the case this was an opportunity.
"You'll pay whoever brings your people back?" The man seemed confused at the espers question but hesitantly nodded. "So where are they being held?"
The elder blinked a few times in confusion. It almost sounded like the boy before him wanted to...
"Hold on a moment, you don't mean to..."
"I do. Now tell me where they're being held." Accelerator asked again and the old man looked at him as if he were insane.
"Look young man I appreciate your bravery for wanting to help, but these White Fang are dangerous the-"
"Quit wasting time. "Accelerator cut the man off. "You wanna see your people again or not?"
The man kept quiet as if contemplating something, after awhile he finally opened his mouth to speak.
"Young man, if you're truly capable of saving out people than I humbly beg you to do so." The old man said as he bowed his head, though Accelerator merely rolled his eye's at the overly dramatic display.
"Yeah whatever. Now the location."
"Yes of course..."
"So this us it, huh?" Now within the forest once again Accelerator's eye's focused on what looked like an metal trap door that led underground. The old man from earlier had led him too it, but he was long gone now.
("But this is strange. The reason the guards won't help out is most likely because the people kidnapped weren't of much importance, seeing as most who are captured are from the slums. Then what's the reason these people are being kidnapped? They hold no worth, so why?") Though that was a question left unanswered the esper merely approached the iron door loadged into the ground. The place might be some underground bunker, but who knows how large it could have been or how many of these White Fang were in it.
"Guess terrorist don't deserve mercy." Reaching towards the door he tore it of as though peeling away a piece of paper Throwing the chunk of metal to the side, the esper dropped down into the underground entrance.
Gravity quickly took hold and he dropped faster, though he didn't free fall. He leisurely held his hands in his pockets as he waited for the ground to come. And not a moment sooner he landed with a heavy thud, the ground beneath he feat was cracked but he sufferd no damage from the harsh landing. As he looked around he took note of how the underground layer was structured. It looked more like the insides of a large cave. Rocky walls and rough ceilings, the only evidence that there was people here was the multiple lamps installed in the walls and there was also some kind of ventilation system.
("This deep underground I don't think wind would be of much use, I should probably avoid causing any tremors too.") With that thought in mind the esper's legs began to move. With it being dimly lit it was hard to navigate his way but there seemed to be only one path carved into the ground.
"Hm?" As he advanced he quickly took note of something. It was a iron door, finsihed with hinges and all. It seemed loadged into the rocky walls but from the narrow bars of the iron door you could see a large dark space. Accelerator couldn't make out anything beyond the the bars so he stepped closer.
("Doesn't seem like there are any alarms in place, so I guess anything goes.") Reaching his arm forward he effortlessly tore the metal door of it's hinges and placed it aside. Immediately after doing so a putrid smell hit his nose. Covering his nose, he waited for his vision to get adjusted to the slight darkness of the room.
And a horrid sight made it to his eye's. He was immediately struck by the overwhelming stench of decay and the sickening sight of mutilated corpses lined up on a table. Some of the bodies were missing limbs and organs, leaving behind a trail of macabre and unsettling silence.
The room was lit only by a few flickering bulbs, casting eerie shadows on the walls and creating an overall sense of unease. Though he couldn't make out the features of the corpses, buried as they were in the shadows, but he could feel the cold, clammy touch of their skin. The air was thick with the stench of decay, and the he might as well have been inhaling the very essence of death. There were more bodies piled up in the corner. Some were missing limbs, others were missing entire sections of their bodies, leaving behind only a pool of congealed blood and tissue.
"Missing eye's and organs. So they're harvesting their bodies." Accelerator deduced. Despite the sight before him the espers face remained blank, the only thing that bugged him was the smell. "But these corpses are too old, I'm guessing it's not the one's I'm looking for."
Stepping outside of the small room he followed the singular rocky path once again. Alteast he now knew why the people from Mistral were being kidnapped. This White Fang group was harvesting organs, it also appears they had been at it awhile.
("Which is weird, with those people knowing where to find them you'd think they would have gotten caught by now. Maybe they're paying off some people so they can get away with it.") Bribing did seem like the most likely solution. But currently he didn't care about that, he just wanted to do his job and get paid.
"But how should I deal with them?" Though Accelerator wasn't some psychopathic murderer anymore, he still knew when killing would benifit him. Currently leaving some terrorist group alive would cause more problems and he had enough to deal with. Though he was far from a good person, he never wanted to kill without reason.
("But those corpses they pilled up is enough reason to not show mercy, I suppose .") As the thought ran through his head the sound of footsteps reached his ears.
It sounded like two pairs of them, and not long two of the supposed White Fang members came into view.
They wore white uniforms and had masked that coverd their upper faces. But what stood out most was the dog tail one possed and the rat ears the other did.
("Outfit matches the description the old man mentioned.")
Depsite the dense darkness the two quickly noticed him standing a few meters away from them. Noticing an intruder the two immediately reached for their weapons, one having what looked like a handgun and the other pulled out a sword.
Though the two barley had enough time to do anything. As Accelerator was already infront of the one with the gun, shoving his arm forward it seemed to tear through his stomach as if it were wet paper. The victim gurgled on his own blood as his intestines fell to the ground with a wet after sound. Accelerator's eye's rolled to the other one, who stood still in a daze. Without a second thought, he swung his opened palm towards his head.
A second later his body seemed to implode before violently bursting open.
"Guess not everyone has aura." Accelerator mutterd as he stared at his handy work. The first one he attacked, he had done nothing flashy. He merely shoved his arm forward and increased the momentum and mass, he just wanted to make sure. If they had aura then he'd have to shatter that first if he wanted to implement his blood flow manipulation or control of their bio-electricity. But they were easily dealt with. Nevertheless it was better to be sure
"Guess I must be close to the other's of this little group." And close he was, as more footsteps reached his ears and before him appeared more of the White Fang,10 to be exact, all armed. They quickly took note of Accelerator as well as the two corpses, or what was left of them. It was easy to put two and two together for the group.
"Bastard! You'll pay!" One howled with anger.
"Fucking human scum!" Another screamed.
The rest followed their example as they yelled with anger, they drew various weapons and charged at him at once. They were going to kill the bastard human who had dared to kill their brethren, maybe they'd make him suffer as well.
One slaughter later
Accelerator stepped passed the various mutilated bodies of the White Fang. Killing them was easy but he did atleats leave one to answer some questions of his. The man had ranted on about how scummy humans were and what not, but one way or another Accelerator got the information he needed.
The location of the Mistral people. The underground place wasn't large so he had only encountered 4 other White Fang guards, which he had dispatched of as easily as the rest. He had also encounterd a other room, it was their medical facility no doubt, as it was litterd with various bloody tools, no doubt used to extract organs to sell. These people really were scum, but then again he wasn't exactly in any position to call others scum.
"And there it is..." As he overlooked a large metal door he mutterd to himself. He could hear muffled sounds at the other side so without a second thought he tore the door off with ease and threw it aside. Various gasps reached his ears and into view came who he assumed he was looking for.
Both young and old looked at the esper with uncertainty, some with fear. They looked worse for wear, with some only having sufferd a few scratches while others were missing an eye or a limb.
"You people from Mistral?" Accelerator asked ignoring their oozing fear.
Some hesitantly nodded their heads while others backed away.
"Good. Those who want's to get out follow me, help the one's who can't walk on their own." He orderd as he left the cell of the room. He heard various shuffling behind him as muttering filled the air, some believed they were getting saved while other's remained unsure.
"Are you saving us?" The question caused him to stop and turn around. A small girl no older than 8 walked to him with wide and hopeful eye's, her right arm was roughly bandaged up but she looked in a better state than most of the other's.
"Sure...guess I am."
"Is this even alot of money?" Though it would've been beneficial to figure out how the currency worked in this world, the esper didn't exactly have time for it. He just wanted to finish the job quickly, and he did. After guiding the missing people back to the slum section of Mistrial, he recieved various heartfelt thanks from, wife's, mother's, father's and grandparents. Though all he cared about in the end was getting paid. So now he was seated on a park bench debating what to do.
"500 Lien." The amount he recieved, yet he didn't know if it was alot. Depending on how the currency worked he could've either received a hefty sum of have been ripped off.
"You seem unhappy with your pay." An unfamiliar voice greeted him, a middle aged man came into view. With a brown trench coat and formal clothes underneath, he sat beside the esper. "But that's understandable, taking out White Fang members requires nicer rewards."
"Who the hell are you?" Raising an eyebrow at the unknown man, he merely smirked.
"I'm here to give you a job. See, I saw all your handy work at that White Fang base, so I thought you'd be right for the job." He began.
"Job? Then what exactly is this job suppose to be?" Though Accelerator wasn't one to accept any job pointed at him, he really didn't have the luxury to turn down something that could grant him money.
"You see, I got info that the White Fang are planning to rob a train full of weaponry and dust."
"So?"
"This train happens to belong to my boss, ya see? He's willing to pay whoever stops these animals handsomely."
("Again with this White Fang, huh? The job sounds bothersome but doable.")
"Fine, I'll consider it. But if you're ripping me off, I'll find and butcher you." The man seemed to momentarily flinch under the espers gaze but he quickly composed himself and stood up.
"R-Right, meet me back here at night and I'll give ya the deets of the job." With that said the man walked off leaving Accelerator alone once again.
("Man, I really am getting desperate. At the rate I'm going finding a way home will be a pipe dream.") A sigh escaped his lip as he stared upwards. ("Still though, with everything I've been through I'd think killing living people would be more difficult, instead it seems as easy as ever.") Killing was never his first option, unless someone had directly attacked Last Order or himself he would usually never kill so indiscriminately. His mind wandered to the bandits he had slaughtered not long ago, as it did the corpses of Axel, Emilia and Emily filled his mind aswell.
"No, those bandits definitely deserved it." But who was he to decide, he who killed over 10 000 living beings, could he really play the judge here? No he couldn't, but it didn't matter. He'd kill whoever got in his way, and he'd kill when it would benifit him.
"It doesn't matter really. As long as I can get back...get back to her, then I don't care what I have to do."
