One Misunderstandig
Hi, welcome. I must warn you. It's been a long long time since I written anything especially in English (which is not my mother tongue), so pardon any mistakes in spelling and grammar. This story also hasn't been beta read so if you are interested in being my beta please reach out. I've had all these stories in my head for quite some time, but I can imagine they will change as I put them on paper, so we will see where it goes. I will change a few things regarding the True Blood lore as I stumble upon them. Tags will be added gradually. That's all. Enjoy!
Chapter 1
The first thing Aven heard when she regained consciousness was the sound of water droplets hitting the ground. The air around her was humid and stale. Her head hurt like a hammer and she couldn't remember how the hell she got there. Opening her eyes, she quickly found out she couldn't see a thing. Breathing in and out, trying to calm herself down she tried looking around. She had to wait a minute for her eyes to get used to the darkness that surrounded her.
The room was spacious from what she could see. It looked like some kind of basement, although she could not see everything that the room held. She could see the silhouettes of a few metal poles that surrounded her, connected to some kind of mechanism on the ceiling. In front of her were stairs that led up.
Upon seeing the stairs, her instinct took over and she hurriedly scrambled to her legs from where she was lying on the damp floor only to be stopped by some metal around her neck. She was immediately thrown to the ground. Her hands shot up to her neck where she found a metal collar. In a panic, she tried to find a way to unclasp it but soon found out there was none. There was just a metal chain bolted to one of the poles she saw around her. Once again she had to try calming herself down, so she could think clearly.
"Where the fuck am I?"she whispered to herself.
She couldn't remember how she got here. The last thing she remembered was leaving Merlotte's after having dinner there. Then nothing. Her memory was blank.
"Shit" she whispered once more. This didn't look good. She knew there was no point in panicking, she had to think and quickly. Before whoever put her here came back. Which was hard considering that her head still hurt like motherfucker and that she was at the verge of panic attack.
She tried to concentrate on her fox. Rae. Just to clarify things - she was a fox shifter, or werefox as some may call it. Or whatever, she didn't really know what exactly she was, because the change took her by surprise a few years back. And because one can't just look up some forum on the internet and ask for help, she didn't meet anyone like her. So she had to figure it out herself. Well, she did meet one, or at least she thought she did, but was always too afraid to ask.
When she didn't receive any form of answer back, she became concerned even more. There were two options why. Either something happened to her or it was new moon. She hoped for the latter. When she thought about it, it was new moon the night she was at Merlotte's.
She knew she shouldn't go out that night. She was more vulnerable on nights like these, since her fox was nowhere to be found. She usually sticked to her apartment when she couldn't access her fox. But tonight she, for some reason, thought it would be good if she went out. What could happen right?
She looked around herself once more. The only few things around her were metal poles, a bucket filled with some liquid, hopefully water, and another empty bucket. Next she tried her pockets, but no luck, they had been emptied. There was nothing she could pick a lock on the collar with.
Having no way to get out of this situation at the moment, she started listening to sounds around herself, but she couldn't hear anything other than dripping water here and there.
So Aven just sat there, chained like an animal and waited for someone to come for her.
A few hours have passed and still nothing happened. No movement around her, no sounds, nobody came. But she started to feel her fox. Not quite fully, but she knew she was there, which calmed her a little. So she waited.
Another couple of hours have passed and still nothing has changed. Well, one thing did. She could access her fox again. So when she came back, she spent a couple of minutes taking in her surroundings again, but with better senses. Her vision along with smell, hearing and strength improved. The heightened eyesight told her nothing. She could see a couple more doors leading deeper into the basement, but that was it. Her ears detected some vibrations from upstairs as if there was some music playing, but that could mean anything. And lastly, she hated the heightened smell at the moment. All she could smell was mold and something dead.
She also tried taking off the collar once more with more strength in her hands, but it wouldn't budge.
The moment Rae came back, they started "talking". Well it wasn't really talking as such, but more like feelings, senses and pictures. Since she changed for the first time, it felt like there was someone else with her all the time, which sounds overwhelming, but it came with a sense of calmness and security. She didn't feel lonely that much anymore. Sometimes there were words, at first rarely, but lately they were more frequent.
They agreed that trying to shift is a bad idea. When Aven was alone with her thoughts for few hours, she contemplated, if by shifting she couldn't get out of the collar. But it would be dangerous, because she had no way of knowing if the collar would stay around the neck of the fox or would move to some other part of her body, like chest for example. She could end up dead in seconds. So they settled that the shift would be the last resort.
And just like that, she run out of options all over again.
It felt like she was stuck here for days. Maybe it were days. She had no way of knowing for sure. The only thing changing were the vibrations from upstairs, but they were too inconsistent to keep track of.
When she woke up after she couldn't stay awake any longer she could smell that someone was in the room with her some time ago. And that the person was not human. Which freaked her out even more. But at least she knew someone was checking up on her, so hopefully they wouldn't let her die here.
She was also increasingly more hungry and thirsty. She had to resort to drinking from the bucket and thankfully, it was filled with clean water as she found out. But there was nothing she could drive away the hunger with, so she just sat there and tried not to think about it.
As the hours gone by, she started thinking that she was losing her mind. There was nothing to occupy her mind with other than listening to dripping water. Thats why at first when she heard the doors unlocking she thought it was just a hallucination. But then the light came. And in the light at the top of the stairs stood a silhouette of a man. He started descending the stairs slowly as she scrambled back in fear as far as the chain let her. When he stopped in front of her, he said.
"And what do we have here?".
So that's it for this chapter, thank you for reading! I hope you liked it. I know that so far it looks like it will be dark story, but it will improve in next chapters. Please feel free to leave a comment.
See you soon,
