Chapter One
A young man looks towards the city he's approaching. He has silver hair that mimics the color of his eye and wears a simple gray plaid button up shirt with blue jeans. He also had an eyepatch covering his right eye with a line scar being visible above and below the patch to his cheek.
"Man it has been a while since I've been in Fuyuki City." He says to himself. "Judging from what I'm seeing, it doesn't look like much has changed in five years. Still it feels weird being back after promptly leaving when Father died, but it was necessary. Although trying to explain that to Taiga is going to be a pain. I can't just tell her the truth because of how far fetched it is to the people living here. To be fair, the Force is pretty complex. There's always something new to discover. Father could barely understand it even though he has had experience with this world's magic. It was also foreign to my brother, though he was young and didn't know much about his own powers when I first told him. Speaking of which, judging by the day it should just be about time for dinner. I hope he is cooking enough for my surprise return home."
He swings his bag over his shoulder and continues walking into the city.
Shirou wraps his apron around himself as he sees Sakura already starting cooking.
"Ah Sakura, you could have waited for me at least." He tells her.
She looks back at him. "Oh sorry Senpai. It's just, you looked worn out so I thought I'd get started."
"Is it that noticeable?"
"Yes it-"
"You guys!" A female voice calls out from the living room. "You can flirt with each other later. I want food."
"Geez Fuji-nee, if you got time for jokes then you must not be that hungry. I guess we should set aside your porton and just eat ourselves." Shirou tells her.
"What? No! You can't! I can't live without Shirou's cooking."
"Then hush up and let us finish."
She lays her head on the table defeated. Sakura giggles quietly and they continue to cook. Once the food is ready, they plate it and divide it three ways between each other. Shirou thought he heard a door open, but after being told to hurry up he brushes it aside. Shirou and Sakura sit on one side as Taiga sits on the other.
"Time to eat!" Taiga says happily, but before she could start a new voice interrupts them.
"I hope you made enough for four."
The trio looks towards the doorway to see a young man standing there grinning. Sakura doesn't recognize the silver haired teen, but the other two instantly knew who he was. The newcomer sets his bag down and watches as a tiger-like fury charges at him.
"Mason!" The previously hungry tiger woman yells as she runs up to him, almost tackling him to the ground. "Where have you been?! Five years you've been gone and not even one phone call the entire time. Do you realize how worried sick I was for you?!"
Mason groans as her arms wrap around and starts crushing him.
"Taiga it's good to see you too, but could you please stop crushing me?" Mason pleads.
"No! You might try to run off again for another five years, and my crushing you is your punishment! So you're just going to stand here and take it!"
"Shirou please help get her off me."
Shirou looks at him, "I don't know. I'm with Fuji-nee on this one. You might run off again."
Mason pleads again, "Oh come on, is that anyway to treat your brother?."
"You mean the same brother who disappeared for five years?"
Mason makes a pained face, "Okay touché with that, but I can't exactly explain myself if I get crushed to death."
Taiga begrudgingly lets him go and they both sit on the empty side of the table. Shirou grabs some more food from the kitchen and gives it to Mason.
Sakura whispers to Shirou, "Umm, who is that Senpai?"
"Ah," Shirou says, "that's right you never met him. This is my brother Mason."
Mason looks up from his food after hearing his name. "Oh and who is this cutie? Your girlfriend Shirou?"
Sakura blushes while Shirou sighs again.
"No she's not. This is Sakura Matou, she's an underclassman who helps around the house after I was injured from the archery club last year. She's also my friend's little sister."
"Hmm," he stares at the pair. Shirou just stares right back at him. "Alright, we'll leave it there for now."
"I didn't know you had a brother Senpai." The now confirmed not girlfriend says.
"Really Shirou? You never mentioned me? Am I that forgettable?" The forgettable brother asks.
"I didn't realize I forgot to tell her." The forgetful brother says.
"Well Sakura even though we say we are brothers, Shirou and I are brothers by name not blood. We were both adopted by our father about ten years ago. We are both the same age as well so when we introduce ourselves, people usually get confused."
Sakura speaks up, "Oh, ok. But why haven't I seen you before?"
"Yeah Mason, why don't you tell us why you haven't been seen?" Taiga asks grumpily.
"Well," he scratches the back of his head, "I had affairs to attend to, plus I wasn't in an emotionally stable condition to stick around."
She stares at him, "We were grieving for your father too. You could have at least told us you were leaving."
"But I did Tai-"
"LEAVING A NOTE IS NOT A PROPER WAY OF SAYING IT!" She cuts him off.
"Sorry. I was scared of saying it in person. I was afraid I would have ended up staying here."
"Of course you would have stayed. We would have talked you down or Fuji-nee would have grabbed you and not let go." Shirou says with Taiga's nodding in confirmation.
"Well that would have been bad." Mason speaks again. "I needed to leave. While I can't tell you the full reason where I went, why I left, or what I did at the moment, just know that I came back better than I was when I left and have full intentions of staying here now."
Taiga is about to explode on that explanation, but Shirou grabs her hand before she can.
"Calm down Fuji-nee. I think that's the best we're going to get out of him. You know he doesn't share everything at once. It took him years to finally tell me about what happened to his eye."
The Taiga size bomb dials back quite a bit, "I'm not so sure I want to leave this topic as it is. Also he told you about his eye?!"
"Yes," Mason answers, "it's a rather unpleasant story for me that I would rather not revisit at the moment. Let's just say that Father's death brought back the same bad memories that cost me my eye."
Hearing this, Taiga stops her tracks and the conversation ends there. The four of them sit quietly eating for the rest of the night. After dinner, Sakura helps clean and leaves after saying goodbye. The other three sit around the tv until Taiga stands up to leave as well.
"Ah man this has been a wild night. And I should make it clear that I am happy to see you back Mason, even if I'm still mad about it." She tells him.
"Yeah sorry Taiga. Oh by the way, I've gone ahead and talked to the school. I told them I am transferring after going to an abroad school." He tells her back.
"Huh? Really? So you really are here to stay?"
"Yes I've told you that I am. I'll see you tomorrow Ms. Fuji-nee."
"It's Ms. Fujimura when we are at school and don't you forget it." She corrects him as she shuts the door behind her.
The two brothers chuckle as their legal guardian leaves. They sit there for a couple minutes before Shirou decides it's safe to talk to his brother.
"So was you leaving for years connected to your force thing?" He asks.
"Yes it was. As you know I still have nightmares about what happened to me ten years ago. Even though we both went through something horrible that day, we didn't experience the same thing. You went through the aftermath of the last Holy Grail War, and I went through a betrayal of the soldiers serving my former master in a different war far from here. It was only by chance the escape pod I was in threw me into a black hole and I ended up here. Anyways after losing the closest person I had to be considered family, I found a darkness rising in me. It was only because of Father, Taiga, and you that the darkness didn't take over. Father helped me calm it down enough to not let it control me, but when he died I found that same darkness coming back and I was afraid that I would end up hurting someone. So I left and stayed away until I was confident enough to suppress it. For the most part I'm fine, but every now and again the nightmares begin to slip out and well you know." Mason explains himself.
Shirou nods as he listens to his brother, "Well you are home again. So I hope you know that I am here to help if I can."
"Ha," Mason smiles, "Still going with the whole 'Hero of Justice' thing aren't you?"
"Yes I am. I haven't been sitting around for five years doing nothing. I've been practicing my magic and archery skills to do just that."
"Hmm. I'm curious to see what magic you can pull, so I think a sparring match is in order soon. But it has gotten late so we'll have to postpone that for tomorrow."
Shirou nods, "True it is fairly late. We better head to bed for school tomorrow."
They both stand up and head to their bedrooms after saying good night. Mason opens the door to his old room to see it hasn't changed a bit since he left. A small smile forms on this face. At least Shirou was nice enough to not let dust settle in here, he thought to himself. He changes out of his clothes to something more comfortable for bed and lays down. After removing his eyepatch, he pulls the blanket over him and drifts to sleep as exhaustion takes over him. Once his eye closes he hears those three words from ten years ago that still haunt him to this day again.
"Execute Order Sixty-Six."
Author Notes:
Hey I hope y'all enjoyed chapter one. This is the first time I've written something, so I'm willing to take any advice you veteran writers may have. I'm sure you Star Wars fan can realize that Mason is my own created character. There wasn't a character from SW I could find to fit the role I have planned for Mason. I will probably bring in a few more self made SW related characters, but most of the Fate related characters will actually be from Fate and the story will mostly be focused around the Fifth Holy Grail War. Mason's backstory will be more fleshed out at the story progresses. Anyways thanks for reading and look forward for the next chapter!
