Chapter One: Other Survivors

"Beautiful morning. Or at least as beautiful as it could get." Alexis says as she is walking around an old trailer park area carrying her gun.

"Dina!" A voice shouts as Alexis looks in the direction of the voice.

"Huh?" Alexis asks as she sees someone running.

"Dina where are you!?" The person shouts as Alexis sees they are being chased by two runners.

"Is that a human? Oh shit I didn't know there were any humans out here. She looks to be in trouble. Better go help her." Alexis says as she shifts to wolf form and runs over toward the human and the runners.

"Damn it. Out. Fuck." The human says angrily as she aims her gun at the runners only for it to be out of ammo as she gets cornered by the runners.

"Hey hold on!" Alexis shouts as she jumps onto the back of one of the runners and bites into it's neck before ripping it's head off before leaping onto the other runner and killing it as well.

"What the hell? Did that wolf just talk? Okay I must of got bit or hit my head on the way out of that building because last I checked wolves don't talk." The human says as Alexis looks at her.

"Well this one sure does." Alexis says as she smiles.

"Ah!" The human shouts as she aims her gun at Alexis causing her to jump in alarm.

"Whoa! Hey easy." Alexis says worriedly.

"What the hell are you?" The human asks.

"First how about about lowering that empty gun?" Alexis asks as she glares at the human with an unamused look as she sees the gun is the same empty gun from before.

"You just keep back." The human says as Alexis rolls her eyes.

"Look I mean no harm. If I did I wouldn't have helped you." Alexis says.

"I didn't need your help." The human says as she glares.

"Says the girl who got herself cornered. Don't you have anything else to fight with?" Alexis asks.

"I got a machete but kinda hard to do that when you got two on you at once without back up." The human says as Alexis chuckles.

"I see. Anyway you okay?" Alexis asks.

"Yeah. I guess. What are you anyway?" The human asks.

"Well nosey girl I am a wolf shifter. Immune too I might add thanks to that." Alexis says proudly.

"You're immune?" The human asks as Alexis nods.

"Yeah? You sound surprised." Alexis says as she looks at the human curiously.

"Well it's not every day you hear that." The human says.

"Well it's not every day you meet a wolf shifter either." Alexis says as she and the human chuckle.

"Fair enough. So what's your name?" The human asks.

"Alexis? Alexis Hathaway. And you are?" Alexis asks as she shifts to human form.

"Ellie. Ellie Williams. And look I'm sorry for reacting like that. It's hard to know who you can trust out here." The human says.

"I get that. No worries. And here." Alexis says as she hands some ammo to Ellie.

"Ammo?" Ellie asks curiously.

"Thought you might need it more than I do." Alexis says as she smiles kindly.

"But don't you want it? Ammo isn't exactly easy to get ahold of." Ellie says.

"I can handle my own without it. Plus I carry an axe along with my gun so I stay fairly well supplied in my weaponry." Alexis says as she holds an axe.

"Smart." Ellie says as she smiles.

"Of course. Gotta be out here." Alexis says as she smiles kindly.

"True." Ellie says as she and Alexis chuckle.

"So you kept calling for someone named Dina while you were running. I take it you and a friend got separated. I smelled another human nearby but I brushed it off thinking it might be raiders. It was probably your friend. I can take you to her if you want." Alexis says.

"You know where Dina is?" Ellie asks curiously.

"Possibly if I can pick up her scent again. Interested?" Alexis asks as she shifts to wolf form.

"Yeah. But jus to be safe I am keeping my machete in hand. I don't quite trust you. You seem friendly enough but still can never be too careful." Ellie says as she holds her machete.

"I understand. But long as you don't go attacking me without actual reason I won't say anything. Kinda nice having a walking companion who can fight." Alexis says.

"The same to you." Ellie says.

"Thanks. Okay so give me one moment." Alexis says as she begins sniffing around.

"Anything." Ellie asks.

"Yep. Got it. She's this way. Follow me." Alexis says as she and Ellie begin walking.

*Timeskip*

"Wow. You've been through a lot growing up." Ellie says as she is walking with Alexis.

"Yeah. Definitely not the way you'd wanna grow up but hey it's a living." Alexis says as she smiles kindly at Ellie.

"Yeah. I admire the strength you have. Many people would of just given up or turned to horrible ways of cruelty to just survive." Ellie says.

"Thanks. You sound like you've been through a lot as well Ellie. I'm glad you found a home and family. Means you have something to protect. Me on the other hand I'm still looking for that." Alexis says as she looks down.

"I'm sure you'll find it. Never thought I did and now I have. Anyway why did you help me? You didn't have to and it probably would of benefited you to keep walking rather than help me." Ellie says.

"Well I'm not like most people. I love helping others. And when I saw you in trouble I just knew that I wanted to help." Alexis says as she smiles at Ellie.

"Well thanks for that. I'm sorry I acted like I did. You're actually pretty cool and nice." Ellie says as Alexis blushes slightly.

"Thanks. You're pretty cool too Ellie." Alexis says kindly.

"You think so?" Ellie asks curiously.

"Yeah." Alexis says as she nods.

"Thanks." Ellie says.

"No problem. Your friend's scent is pretty strong through here. So Dina should be just up ahead somewhere. I'm gonna head on out." Alexis says as she stops walking as the group comes to a building.

"You're not gonna come with me?" Ellie asks.

"Your friend may not be as calm as you were with me and preferably I'd rather not chance her reacting the same as you did with her gun and it possibly be loaded." Alexis says.

"Oh right. I guess I understand that. Well I'll see you around then." Ellie says as Alexis turns to leave.

"Sure. Oh nice tattoo by the way. It's pretty cool." Alexis says before she runs off.
