A Hero to Their Core

Chapter 1

I'm only half surprised this hasn't been made yet. I doubt many people know about the Heroman anime. I watched it when it was coming out week by week on crunchyroll and liked the characters. But that's no surprise. It was made by Stan 'Excelsior' Lee. Anyway, this story is about Joey and Lina getting dropped into the MHA universe. Also, I'm slightly aging them up and going with some powers I think Joey's roulette could give Heroman. So on with the show

(No POV, Center City)

"You won't win as usual Dr. Minami. Heroman and I will stop you." The person saying this was young Joseph Carter Jones. A young man about 16 years old with blond, brown hair. He stands at 5'8" with a black leather jacket over his yellow sweatshirt, and dark navy-blue jeans and grey converse shoe. Next to him is his partner, the star-spangled robot hero: Heroman! The man they are facing down is the mad scientist with a vendetta against them; Dr. Minami.

"I won't be bested again. That robot may be impressive, but he still gets his orders from you. And I have a little someone here to keep you busy." The crazed scientist says with a feral grin. With a snap his monster robot opens its jaws and the hero duo see he has a hostage. This is Lina Davis, Joey's girlfriend of about 2 years. She is tangled up in the wires of the machine to keep her in place. "LINA!" Joey shouts and when she looks down to him she cries out, "Joey get back! Sorry. I tried to fight back but he had too many guys."

"Indeed this young lady knocked out both of my assistants and at least 2 other goons I had hired. Seems much like you she has been training." Minami said with some reservations. In the time since Joey and Heroman had defeated the Skrugg empire, they had been training with the NIS. Joey now knew at least 3 different martial arts and had learned the basics of stealth and other combat. He had become enough of a hero on his own, he only called out Heroman when it was truly dangerous. Like this incident now. But the dynamic duo were ready for this possibility.

With a nod to Heroman, Joey set his plan in motion. Heroman reared back and unleashed a powerful punch on the ground. The shockwave sent dust all around the area. Joey followed this up with a light emp to fry any technical sensors the MR-8. It wasn't enough to btake the robot down since Minami had planned for that possibility, but it was enough to blind the mad scientist. Before the robot could close the mouth and keep Lina trapped, Joey ran at super speed to get in and free her. Once she was out and the MR-8 had been partially disarmed, Joey announced, "HEROMAN! FINISH!" With that shout, Heroman charged up his fists and shattered the body of the MR-8. Then using magnetism pulled the helicopter Minami was using to the ground.

While Lina and Joey were celebrating, and the NIS was taking the doctor and his minions away, Minami still had one trick up his sleeve. With a grit of his teeth, he set off a special bomb in the helicopter. Joey saw the thing go off in slow motion. It wasn't a bomb that would explode. Instead, it seemed to open a small black hole. With that he used his super speed to get as many agents and soldiers as far away as possible. But Lina had been pushed from behind by a few other of Minami's supporters. She tried to right herself, but she was being pulled in.

Joey saw this and ran to save her. But he, Lina and the Heroman now in his backpack were pulled into the black hole. When asked later Minami admitted that he wasn't sure if the young hero was truly dead. "The device I made was still experimental. I'm not willing to bet it actually killed the boy. I'll accept my imprisonment for now. But if you want that so called hero back, I'll need to research to bring him back." While most were angered at that declaration, more were hoping that the mad doctor could bring the leading hero of the world back.

(USJ attack, Izuku POV)

This is very bad! Aizawa sensei is currently being crushed by that Nomu thing and I don't think we can do anything about it. I'm already a little hurt and if what they said is true about its power, I'm not sure that even at my maximum I could beat the Nomu. The mist villain is back. He reported to the lead villain, Shigaraki, that one of the ones up at the entrance had gotten away. Probably Ida. We may have a chance. "Damnit Kurogiri. If you weren't our escape route I would kill you know. Well that's it. All Might isn't even here so there's no point to us staying." Did I hear that right? We might just make it out of this after all. "But, lets kill some of the students. Just to break All Might's will." He says sinisterly and he rushes toward us.

He goes for Asui and I'm sure she's about to be decayed away. But nothing happens. "You really are cool, aren't you Eraserhead?" I turn and see Aizawa lifting his head up and using his quirk to stop Shigaraki's. Just as the nomu is about to push down again, we all hear a grunting coming from Kurogiri. Said villain starts coughing more and more, until it sounds like he is about to vomit. Then he seemingly does, but instead of food or whatever he eats, out of the black mass appears two strange people. One looks like a boy a bit older that those of us in class 1-A. In his arms is a girl about the same age. After seeing this we all have one question: what the hell is going on?

(No POV)

Joey shook his head after they had landed. But before looking around he checked on Lina. "Lina, are you okay?" "Yeah. You saved me again Joey." Said girl says with a smile on her face. When Joey looks around he sees a lot of strange sights before him. But he has an idea on what is going on and what needs to be done. "Lina. Get ready." She too has seen the crazy things around her and knows they have a big job to do. Joey still has his gauntlet so after he sets Lina down, he rushes at Shigaraki.

Breaking his nose with the first hit to his face. He then breaks the villain's arm when he tries to swing at him, and then his leg to stop him. "NOMU!" the villain calls out and said monster goes to attack Joey. But he stops the monster with his barrier. He smirks because this was what he wanted. While the monster is distracted, Lina grabbed Aizawa and told the Izuku and the others to follow her. Once they were a fair distance away, Joey used a bit of pressure point and disabling techniques to stop the nomu for a time.

"Here we go." Joey said as he pulled Heroman out of his backpack. When he set the robot down, the villains were confused. Shigaraki was about to start shouting about how a toy was going to defeat his nomu. Joey just smiled before pulling up Heroman's activation command on his gauntlet. "HEROMAN! ENGAGE!" Joey shouted, and the lighting started sparking from all around the little robot. Then it grew to the massive heroic robot, Heroman. This shocks the villains while Joey decides to take a few matters into his own hands. "Heroman. I'll supercharge you for a bit. Keep that black muscle monster busy. I'm going to find the others scattered around this place." At hearing that Kurogiri tries to move to catch him, but Joey is too fast.

With that, Heroman begins his assault on the nomu. The beast tries to fight back but Heroman has also benefited from Joey's training and both of their experience. He hits it so hard and fast a few times that the shock absorption quirk it has is being taxed already. Even the hyper regeneration isn't helping enough. Heroman also uses a few wrestling and other grapple moves to put some extra hurt on the monster. But it just keeps coming back. Even when it hits Heroman, the robot takes it well. Almost looking like there is no damage. This worries both Kurogiri and Shigaraki. 'What the Hell!? Nomu is supposed to be able to handle All Might. But this robot or whatever is able to really hurt him? How are we supposed to beat him?' Shigaraki thinks while trying to move on his broken limbs.

While this is happening, Joey has been going to the different zones of the USJ and saving the UA students around. 'A lot of these people look extra weird. But I'm guessing the younger looking ones are students. What are they doing here?' Joey thinks as he saves Tokoyami and Koda in the squall zone. With each student found, he takes them back to the entrance where the rest are. After bringing Bakugo and Kirishima, he checks in with Lina. "This one man is pretty badly hurt Joey. I've treated some of his wounds but he need real medical attention right away." The girl says with a grim face.

Joey nods before saying, "I'm going back down. Heroman might need some backup." When a few of the students act like they are going to come too, he tells them all to stay put. "Don't give me orders you- guck!" Bakugo tried to push his way down, but Joey stopped him with a twist of his arm and a chop to the back of the neck. "You heard me. Stay here." After seeing Joey do that and the severe look on his face they agree.

Down at the central courtyard, Heroman has taken a bit of damage when Kurogiri redirects of his and nomus strikes. But this changes again when Joey arrives. He blocks a strike from Nomu and paralyzes Kurogiri with an electrified gauntlet strike. Then both he and Heroman strike Nomu in a variety of ways, before Joey uses a barrier directly under nomu to launch it into the air. "Time to finish this! HEROMAN! O-SPARK!" Joey calls out and Heroman creates his O with is arms before unleashing a massive beam of electricity that vaporizes the monster.

This attack blows a hole in the roof of the dome and shocks the onlookers. With that done, Joey makes sure both of the villains won't be going anywhere. "You won't get away. Shocklock!" He calls out and uses his gauntlet to create electromagnetic bindings on both of them. Pinning them to the ground. "There's no need to fear students! For I AM HERE!" Joey hears called out at the top of the stairs. Guessing that could be the calvary, he nods to Heroman and both make their way up the stairs. Joey arrives first with his superspeed and Heroman lands after a huge leap.

The students were about to explain what happened when the hero duo arrived. When All Might saw Heroman he assumed that he was the hero who saved the students and Aizawa. "Thank you, hero! You're quite the star-spangled sight! If you could, would you tell me your name. Also young man. Even if you were helping, you shouldn't use your quirk until you've been trained in a hero institute like UA!"

At hearing that Lina and Joey are both confused. The later just asking if they don't know who they are. When everyone gives a negative, the two from Center City are more concerned. So Joey decides to explain by showing them a bit of the truth. "Heroman. Disengage." With that Heroman turns back into his toy mode and shrinks before all the students eyes. All Might also has a jaw drop moment, and before he can ask more questions Joey asks, "So can you explain what exactly a quirk is?"

This stuns everyone and while a few are about to ask if he has been under a rock, Izuku says something. "I'm not sure if this matter, but they seemed to come out of the mist villain Kurogiri. But they saved us and it looked like bringing them here wasn't intentional." This still confuses people but then Joey mentions that he had the two leaders trapped in the center courtyard. "When Heroman and I took out that monster, I made sure the other two weren't going anywhere. At least I don't think they will. Their pinned with electromagnetic energy." All Might is impressed at the young man's foresight and decides to check the central area to make sure they won't get away.

Once he's gone, the rest of the UA faculty show up and help with recovery and containment. With the two supposed leaders of the League of Villains captured they feel they can put this matter to rest. But there is one problem. They don't know how to deal with the Lina and Joey. When Bakugo wakes up again, he goes to attack Joey for knocking him out earlier. But Lina decides to knock the bully down a bit herself. She catches the mad blonde's arm, before kicking him in the knee and throwing him over her shoulder. She then breaks his arm before double knee dropping on his face. She doesn't stop there and goes into a flip to double stomp on his groin. While Bakugo was slightly hanging onto consciousness before, know he was completely knocked out from the pain. And the likelihood he will never procreate (as if his attitude didn't ensure that).

Once she was done, everyone was a bit terrified of the girl. Even Mineta who had been just looking at her body was planning to never mess with the girl. "You didn't have to do that you know." Joey says with a smile, which Lina returns before saying, "I know. I wanted to." While some are confused by the whole interaction, the mouse chimera principal of UA decides to speak up to them. "Before you decide to brutalize another of the students could you maybe tell us who you are?" He says with a smile on his face.

Both of the Center city kids are confused by the creature before them, but they decide to play it straight. Or as best they can. "It's a bit of a long story. And to be honest, it'd be easier if we had a way to visualize it." Joey explains. Nezu nods before saying they can all reconvene after the students and Joey and Lina have given their statements to the police. Once that is done, a few hours later, Nezu has everyone who is healthy meet in a conference room along with the president of the hero commission on video call. Once there, Joey and Lina introduced themselves. While All Might was interested to Americans from California again, they explained that their home was different from the he was probably used to. With a cable attached to his gauntlet, Joey could give a visual description of what he had been through since he met Heroman.

When he began, he showed them his first heroic act of saving Lina and her father after a car accident. As it went on, they saw just how truly heroic the young man in front of them was. From facing off with and defeating an alien invasion, virtually by himself. To aiding construction and rescue workers later with no asking for a reward. They saw as Heroman stood to protect a small town from a maniac looking to destroy a dam, despite grievous injuries. And as the two of them stood again and again to protect the world and its people from the variety of villains and alien threats that befell their world. And never once did he do it to say he was the best, or for the money or fame. They even saw that he still lived a fairly modest life in his hometown of Center City. He did it because he not only had the power to do something, but because it was the right thing to do.

After seeing all of that, All Might (who had hidden himself away as his time was up for the day) came in full muscle form and saluted and later bowed to the young hero before him. "You truly embody the spirit of a hero that all should strive for young Jones. And I am sorry for accusing you earlier." At hearing this more of them are just floored at what All Might had said Joey embodied. When the older man winced a bit, Joey was the first to stand next to him and ask, "are you okay?" While most of them are confused again (and Bakugo is having flashbacks to Izuku offering to help him) All Might leans on the boy before saying that he has an old injury acting up. "I can help you out if you need it." Joey offers.

All Might gives a small chuckle before saying that Joey's actions just reaffirm his point. All Might then walks out before his muscle form wears off. "Anyway, after the second Skrugg invasion most everyone knew who I was and my relationship with Heroman. But I still tried to stay out of the public spotlight as much as I could." Joey explained before mentioning both he and Lina had going through basic military hand to hand training. With Lina chiming in that she was also a field medic and used a few gadgets to fight villains. "So you have no powers?" Ida asks Lina.

Who in turn has a confused look before asking, "Why do powers have to define if a person can be a hero? That is just a bonus. It's a person's heart that defines a hero. For example, that boy." She points to Bakugo, before saying he should never be a hero and just be locked up. "He's the worst kind of bully. Joey had a little problem with my brother, but he didn't actually hate him. But that boy is nothing but hate. He's just anger, arrogance, and malice. All he has that could help him is his power. And frankly from what I saw, he should have it taken away." Lina says with a cold look.

This makes a few of them feel uneasy, especially the teachers. Some of whom are seeing her point, but don't agree with taking the powers away. Present Mic says, "yeah but some of that can be tempered right? Don't you think it would be extreme to take away his quirk? Quirks are everything to us." "Then its all the more reason he should lose his. Lina looked up a bit, while waiting and the fact your power go active so soon is part of your problem. None of you truly no what it would feel like to be powerless. Its your greatest weakness as the heroes you all claim to be." Joey says with a bit of passion on strength behind his words.

The teachers all realize that he has a point and that it could be one of the things that could hurt them down the line. To make her point stick, Lina asks Joey to show them what she means. They then see an image of a little Lina and Joey with a big dog barking at them. Even though Joey is scared he is still standing his ground and trying to protect Lina. While most of the girls are commenting at first that both of them are cute, they all note that Joey is still demonstrating heroic will. "Hate to admit it but that is something we just can't teach here." The gas masked hero Snipe comments.

With seeing that, and the way Lina was looking at Joey, Mina decides to ask a question that has been bugging her. "Are you two a couple?" "Yes." Both say nonchalantly, causing all of the girls to run up and say how cute both of them are. While a few of the guys are thinking that some people get all the luck. "You're really lucky Lina-chan! Joey-kun seems like such a nice and sweet guy! And he's been your hero for years, right?!" the invisible girl Toru asks.

With both of them blushing a bit, the image on the screen shifts to seeing the couple's first date. After seeing a few images, and then shifting to a view of Joey and Heroman slipping away to go save the day, they come to the end of the date image. This is the one with Lina waiting outside the amusement park and agreeing to go another time. But then it shifts with seeing Lina and Joey sitting on top of the Ferris wheel with the lights going to look out onto the city lights. At seeing the romantic image, all of the girls again are just commenting at how cute the two are. With Midnight in the background commenting that she wished she could find a guy as sweet as Joey.

When Joey mentions that he had planned to do that part from the beginning and wasn't going to let something like it being closed stop him, the girls of 1-A are on him again with how sweet of a hero and boyfriend he was. With the cute moments out of the way, and most of the explanations done, Nezu offers to let the two teens stay at UA for a time. "Perhaps we could have you teach a few things while you are here. You may not know anything about quirks, but you definitely know about what it means to be a hero. You could provide insight no one else could." With that offer on the table, and the whole of class 1-A being thoroughly exhausted they all head home for the day.

I've like the Heroman story and characters for a while and felt they would be perfect for a MHA story. Now I just need to see if anyone else thinks it. Leave a review please!
