Junior Woodchuck lodge:
It was another Woodchuck Initiation.
Launchpad, wearing his Junior Woodchucks scoutmaster attire, stood alongside Huey and Violet in their Senior Junior Woodchuck outfits in front of their fellow Woodchucks and their parents.
April was in her uniform and was excited.
Amongst the crowd was Daisy, Donald, Della, Scrooge, May, June, Louie, Webby, Lena, and Beakley.
Amongst the woodchucks were Gosalyn, Honker, and B.O.Y.D.
Dewey was on the side in his DJ Daft Duck uniform, playing his keyboard.
"I can't believe April is gonna be a Senior Junior Woodchuck with us!" Huey whispered to Violet.
"I know, she really has come a long way." Violet nodded in agreement.
Launchpad cleared his throat.
"Thank you all for taking the time out of your day for the latest Woodchuck Initiation Ceremony!" Launchpad announced. "Woodchucks go all the way back to our founder, the most famous adventurer, Isabella Finch. To quote the famous Woodchuck-"
Violet tapped Launchpad on the shoulder.
"I really hate to cut your speech short but, we have this lodge for a limited time before the Cohen bat-mitzvah." she whispered, pointing to the watch on her wrist.
"Oh! Thank you for reminding me!" Launchpad said, clearing his throat again. "Now then, several of our members have proven themselves and reached the ranks of Senior Junior Woodchuck. Will the following members please stand up for their badges and kerchiefs, handed to you courtesy of fellow Senior Junior Woodchucks, Huey Duck and Violet Sabrewing?" He pulled out his flash cards and cleared his throat louder, making everyone cringe.
"Is he trying to speak or cough up a lung?" asked Lena.
"He is big and tall enough so it could be possible." Louie quipped.
They both snickered before Donald and Daisy shushed them.
"Jeff Marshland. Dan Puffinmire. Alex Burch. Matt Birdie. Dana Ternace. April Duck." Launchpad announced.
The six kids came up as Violet gave them their badges and Huey tied the kerchiefs.
"Congratulations April." Huey said proudly.
"You earned this." Violet said, equally proud.
The six kids stood next to Launchpad.
"Ladies and gentleman, our next line of Junior Senior Woodchucks!" Launchpad announced.
Everyone applauded. April's family cheered.
"That's our sister!" cheered May and June.
"That's my niece!" cheered Daisy.
"That's our nerd!" said Louie.
Soon the crowd dispersed. The McDuck family approached April.
"Congratulations April!" cheered Webby.
"Yeah you're now the same ranks as your fellow nerds." said Lena.
"Remind me, what did she do to get that rank?" asked Louie.
"I scaled the tallest mountain in town with my team." April said proudly. "We survived the journey like pros!"
"You sure did." Violet said approvingly.
Gosalyn, Honker, and B.O.Y.D. came over.
"I must say, the challenge to become Senior Junior Woodchucks seems to be different after what happened when Hubert and Violet did it." said B.O.Y.D.
Huey and Violet chuckled sheepishly at that reminder.
"Well they changed it up a little so competition wouldn't get to our heads." said Huey. "I mean we are still kids after all."
"Well it's like we always say," said Webby as she and Dewey did their signature move.
"Teamwork makes the dream work!" they sang.
Everyone laughed.
"Well all the same, congrats April." said Gosalyn.
"O-Oh yeah congratulations!" Honker quickly said.
"So can we all go home now?" asked June.
The adults rolled their eyes in amusement.
"Yes June, we can go home." said Beakley.
"WAIT! HOLD ON!"
Everyone looked and saw Launchpad running towards them… and then right past them as he crashed into the wall.
"Huh. Never crashed myself without a plane or limo." he murmured.
"Launchpad what in blazes are you doing?" asked Scrooge.
"I was looking over the papers with fellow Woodchuck Scoutmasters." Launchpad said, looking at them. "And apparently, Huey, Violet, and April are so high in the ranks and their Woodchuck accomplishments over these past few months… that they maybe, just maybe…"
He was silent for a moment.
"Uh, Launchpad?" Della asked, waving a hand in front of his face.
Launchpad shook himself awake. "Huh? Oh sorry!" he laughed. "Dramatic effect. Anyways, by next year, Huey, Violet, and April will be eligible for becoming Senior Woodchucks!"
Everyone gasped in surprise, especially the three in question.
"Us?! Senior Woodchucks?!" Huey exclaimed.
"Oh my gosh we're really eligible?!" April gasped.
"Well not until next year." Violet stated. She then grinned. "But I am very excited for it!"
"Congrats guys for being eligible!" Dewey grinned.
"You'll be king and queens of the nerds by the time you're old enough to drive." joked May.
"That may be so… I think." said Launchpad. He looked at the papers. "But in order to be eligible, you need to do a project. A group project."
"What kind of project are we talking about?" asked Huey.
"Something…. big." said Launchpad. "Something… extravagant… and useful and helpful…" he added as he climbed up a ladder all the way to the top. "Something that can help out others the way a Woodchuck always strives to do!" he said triumphantly.
The sunlight from the window shined down on Launchpad… before losing his balance and falling over, landing flat on his face.
"And something that won't require them to fall on their faces." Scrooge deadpanned.
Donald, Della, and the kids snickered.
"Right." Launchpad said as he got up and dusted himself off. "Well you guys have fun looking for a project like that! It's my sister Loopey's birthday and I'm taking the family on a flying ride in the Cloudslayer!"
And Launchpad exited the building.
"Hmm… how much you wanna bet he's gonna crash the party both ways?" asked Louie.
"I'll bet 50 bucks." said Lena.
"I'll go 75." said Gosalyn.
"Guys come on." Daisy lightly chided.
"Yeah give Launchpad some credit for being willing to do this for his sister's birthday!" said Della. She paused. "...put me down for 100." she whispered to Louie.
Louie grinned as he and Della fistbumped.
McDuck Manor:
Huey, Violet, April, B.O.Y.D., and Honker were on the computer looking for a project for the Woodchucks could volunteer at as they sat on the couch.
Louie, Lena, and June sat on beanbag chairs, drinking Pep!, and watching Ottoman Empire. Webby was writing in her diary, Dewey and May were playing Battleship, and Gosalyn was sewing her Quiverwing Quack costume.
"Not many projects we could volunteer at." said Huey. "Some of them have certain age restrictions."
"Yeah. And we'd be violating the rules if we lied." said B.O.Y.D.
"Can't you just have Lena use her magic to make you older?" asked Gosalyn, not taking her eyes off of her costume, needle, and thread.
"Aging spell hasn't been my friend recently." said Lena, chugging her Pep!.
"Why do spells have to be so complicated?" asked June.
"You get used to it." the oldest of the group replied.
"B3." said May.
"Miss!" grinned Dewey. "G6."
"Not bad Dewford." May smirked. "You sunk my smallest battleship."
"Maybe we don't have to do it in Duckburg." suggested April.
"I checked several websites for that stuff in St. Canard." said Honker. "Unfortunately there's nothing right now for us."
"I checked Goofy's town in Spoonerville." said Violet. "The fickle age-restriction is at play for various ones."
"I also checked around Cape Suzette and even the town of the old Quackmore Institute." said B.O.Y.D. "It was the same result."
"Shouldn't be hard for you B.O.Y.D. you're a robot." said May.
"I know. I also know that they may not allow robots." said B.O.Y.D. "And I'd rather do this with my friends."
"Aww! So sweet!" Webby gushed.
Huey sighed, closing his laptop. "We might never find anything." he groaned.
Donald, Della, Daisy, and Scrooge watched from the hallway.
"Wow they're really trying hard with this search." mused Della.
"There's gotta be a project out there for them to work on to help the community." said Donald.
"But the question is… where…" Scrooge pondered.
At that moment, Donald saw a light come from his laptop, which was charging nearby.
"Hey someone's calling me!" he said.
Donald opened his laptop and answered the call. In an instant, a familiar face appeared. It was King Mickey, calling from the throne room in Disney Castle.
"Hey Mickey!" Donald greeted. "How's it going?"
"Going great Donald!" Mickey replied. "Anyways, Minnie heard from Daisy about how the kids are looking for a project to work on, especially so Huey, Violet, and April can be eligible to be Senior Woodchucks by next year. Oh! And tell April congratulations!"
"We will Mickey!" said Daisy.
"Say you think you have something in mind for the kids Mick?" Della asked.
"I sure do!" said Mickey. "As you guys are probably aware, even though the Keyblade War is long since over, the aftermath still affected many across multiple worlds."
"Ah yes, the power of the χ-blade accomplished that." nodded Scrooge.
"Are they recovering well?" asked Della.
"Well… yes and no." said Mickey, rubbing the back of his head. "You see, some of the worlds had been hit hard by the effects of the Keyblade War. While they are rebuilding, many people don't have homes."
"Oh yeah I remember hearing about that." Donald winced.
"Which is why we came up with a solution!" said Mickey. "As you know, Traverse Town is a unique world that consists of the remnants of worlds which have been lost to darkness, and serves as a haven to those whose worlds no longer exist in the Realm of Light. But most recently, Disney Castle started a project to build more homes and help out those who's worlds have been damaged by the war."
"Really?! That's awesome!" Della grinned.
"Oh yeah!" chuckled Mickey. "And we started a project to build more homes in Traverse Town for those whose homes are damaged to house them until everything is rebuilt. We call it The Traverse Town Housing Program. And the members in charge of getting those homes built are known as the Traverse Town Volunteer Committee."
"Ah yes I remember now, I donated a large sum of money to that charity most recently." said Scrooge.
"And a good thing you did too!" said Mickey. "Many volunteers have been helping out, making homes for those who are temporarily relocating to Traverse Town until their regular ones are fixed."
"But wouldn't that also take them away from rebuilding their homes?" asked Della.
"Well we don't know the extent to the damage caused by the Keyblade war to EVERY world affected Della." said Daisy.
"Good point sis." Della nodded.
"Plus, it's where they can stay without overcrowding any unaffected homes." added Mickey. "If your kids need a project to work on, I think they can help out with this one."
"That's a great idea Mickey!" said Donald. "The kids will be able to help so many people."
"And make new friends!" added Daisy.
"Remind me Mickey, are you in charge of the project?" asked Della.
"Well I helped start it up, but I'm not there all the time." Mickey replied. "I have kingly duties here at the castle. But I do know the kids will be excited to meet who's in charge of it with the Restoration Committee from Radiant Garden."
"I bet they will be." said Donald.
"Hey Mickey!" came Goofy's voice. "Those supplies for the people in Puerto Rico are already to-"
There came crashing sound effects as the five adults winced and Goofy's signature hollar was heard.
"Uh… I gotta go." said Mickey, cutting the camera.
Donald closed his laptop.
"Well… while they're doing that," he said before walking into he living room. "Hey kids."
"Hey Uncle Donald." they all said in unison.
"What's the haps?" asked Gosalyn.
"Do I have an opportunity for all of you." Donald said with a grin.
To be continued…
Off to a good start! Wish me luck with this unique story as we go forward. Seriously I think I'm gonna need it.
It may seem simple. But when it comes to these kinds of adventures... that's just the beginning.
Next chapter is where we meet everyone!
