Riley's pov

Patience outside of games had never been a quality I possessed, so waiting for Ben's alarm to go off in order for me to start the day was mildly torturous. One of the agreed upon rules was that I had to follow his sleep schedule despite the fact I was an earlier riser than him. I'd been insistent that I conform to all of his standards but he'd been equally insistent on compromising in most areas. I'd manage to get some things to be outright what he'd done before by pointing out it would be weird if they changed, we still had to appear as normal after all and couldn't just change completely every day.

{ "Ben I'm about to take over, any objections? " } I said to him waiting for a response.

{ " No, now let me sleep." } Came his response, along with a pang of annoyance at the question.

Ignoring the pang of annoyance I took control and felt the flash of agonizing pain that shot through me as I adjusted to the sensation of having a body. While the pain was annoying actually feeling things was nice. The warmth of Ben's blanket felt amazing and I took a few minutes to bask in the sensation before getting up. I went over to Ben's dressers searching through for clothes I could tolerate wearing. Eventually I located a plain white T-shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans, getting ready I fought my urge to check my appearance in the mirror.

" Good morning sweetie." Ben's mother Jane warmly greeted me. A sense of guilt on account of the fact that I wasn't her son after all and was just wearing his body around, hurriedly I repressed the sense of guilt before Ben could feel it. He'd gotten better at feeling my emotions after the accidental possession.

" Good morning." I returned the greeting as I sat down in Ben's seat and had waffles with strawberry syrup for breakfast.

It was a Saturday which thankfully meant no school, so after breakfast I got permission from Ben's parents to head over to Kame Games for a bit before we were to spend "quality family time".

Heading up to Ben's room I grabbed our deck and Ben's wallet, while I wouldn't buy anything without his permission you never knew what cards could be there. Kame Games as I'd discovered was a relatively untapped gold mine often getting packs weeks before their official release date likely because of Pegasus' guilt.

" Hello there Ben." Solomon Muto kindly greeted me as I entered his shop. " It's a shame you just missed my Grandson, he's just went out with his friends."

" I'd love to meet him one day." I said, and I meant it as more than just a fan, hearing stories from Solomon about his Grandson made me far more intrigued by the person than the character on screen. However it seemed that Yugi and I always just missed each other.

" Oh and I suppose I should let my best customer know I'll be closing down my shop for a week starting tomorrow." Solomon said shocking me with the announcement. He'd closed down briefly so that he could participate in the KC Grand Prix two weeks ago, which was honestly something I'd forgotten he'd done.

It suddenly clicked that he was probably going to Egypt to watch the ceremonial duel. That I likely wouldn't have the chance to meet or duel the Pharaoh. It was a disappointing pill to swallow.

{ " So I guess I that we need to start taking things seriously." } Ben said picking up on my disappointment despite my best efforts, as we walked home from Kame games.

{ " Yeah from here on out I no longer know what comes next except for the fact that Yugi will give a Winged Kuriboh card to a kid named Jaden right before the entrance exams for duel academy." } I said. { " All we can do now is try and ensure we get into Duel Academy." }

{ " Yeah well in the meantime I hope you're up for some shopping." } Ben replied with a hint of amusement, { " My Mom mentioned going clothes shopping the other day which means you get to play dress up for her." }

{ " If we're going clothes shopping shouldn't we swap, so you can pick out what you want? "} I hastily tried to get out of being doted on and being forced to change clothes a bunch of times.

{ " I'm sure your tastes in clothing isn't that bad, plus maybe if you get some clothes you like, you won't have to spend 20 minutes every morning looking through my clothes for something without stripes or a graphic you don't get. "} Ben replied shocking me with the fact he was able to figure out why it took me so long to pick an outfit.

Arriving at the house, I was forced to abandon the conversation as we were guided into the car by Ben's parents. The drive there was difficult as I had to make small talk with Ben's parents. This was in a world I knew next to nothing about other than the fact it revolved around a card game that neither of them seemed to play. Thankfully Ben was still young which meant that I could just talk about our cards and they much like my parents were too polite to tell me they didn't care or know what I was talking about.

Arriving at the mall Jane's eyes gained an alarming look as I was dragged into a clothing store to play dress up. Seconds later with a bunch of clothes shoved in my hand I was pushed into a changing room with a giant mirror. This far I'd done my best to avoid looking at Ben's face and features but since there was a chance he might wear whatever I picked out I should pick things that would work well with his looks. I looked at the mirror but it wasn't my reflection that stared back. Black hair in the place of brown and blue eyes in the place of green. Tearing my gaze away I immediately started picking out clothes trying to distract myself from the wrongness of the image. Fortunately he was around the same height and build I was around that age and his hair like mine laid relatively flat but was too long. Grabbing a pastel blue shirt and a black button up that seemed to be the lone one in the pile I put them on leaving the button up unbuttoned.

{ " So that's why you don't look into mirrors."} Ben said. { " I was curious about it but the panic I felt."}

{ " Image issues."} I said answering the implied question I stepped out of the dressing room. { " I look different then you do and I've had sixteen years to get used to my previous face and features, and only about two weeks to get used to yours. I'll get over it"}

" Oh my goodness you look so grown up." Said Jane as she took in Ben's appearance in the clothes I selected.

{ " Ok ." } he replied but I could feel his disbelief and worry.

" Button ups are clearly a good look for you, I wonder if you'd wear a tie? " Jane said before going and grabbing more things for me to try on.

Several hours later when we all left the mall with new clothes I didn't bother to suppress my happiness or gratitude.

Author's note

So yeah completely changing the last chapter leads to minor and major rewrites for some of the stuff that directly comes after. Who knew? Now since half of the original chapter 6 got rendered unnecessary or now just doesn't work. I had to completely change it so I tried to do a little world building and timeline setting here. I also wanted to try and highlight something I don't see many reincarnation stories tackle which is the completely different body and appearance. So yeah Riley can't stand looking into mirrors for long prolonged periods, I hope no one has any cards that deal with reflections. Next chapter we get a two year time jump and some more dueling.
