The rain had dropped the temperature and made Detroit feel more like winter than fall as Hank stopped the car at the Chicken Feed and unbuckled before he got out of the car and moved the seat forward, helping Leah out of the back seat… and she followed him before he pulled her out of the way of an autonomous taxi that just barely stopped short of hitting them.
"Whoa! Hey! Hey! Hey!" Hank shouted at the taxi though it didn't really help to do so and Connor got out and closed the passenger door.
"Hey, Hank, hey, Leah. How you doing?" Gary responded.
"Eh, you know, same old shit." Hank replied before Gary saw Connor.
"Plastic with you two?" Gary asked.
"Only temporary." Hank responded before Gary checked on the burgers and started fixing up a grilled chicken salad for Leah.
"I don't know how you can eat salads for lunch most of the week, kid." Gary replied.
"Don't knock them until you try them." Leah responded.
"Add some fries to go with her meal." Hank explained, Gary nodding and Leah knowing that Hank worried about her being too thin.
Connor walked towards them but stopped when he heard "Hey, Hank. Hey, Leah." and quickly scanned the man approaching them and he and Hank hugged before he and Leah hugged.
Name: Pedro Aabdar

"Hey, listen, I got a shit-hot tip for you. Number five in the third, Lickety-split! That filly's one hell of a chaser. You wanna flutter?" Pedro responded after he and Leah let go and Pedro had turned to Hank.
"Last shit-hot tip you gave me set me back a week's wages, Pedro." Hank replied.
"Come on, this is different. It's 100% guaranteed, you can't go wrong." Pedro responded before he looked to Leah.
"Nope, not getting involved in this one, pal." Leah replied as Gary handed the salad, fries and green tea to her before she thanked him and she and Connor walked to a table.
"You and your uncle seem to know everyone here." Connor spoke up.
"Just about. Hank was born and raised in Detroit, I was born in Novi but raised here in Detroit. Most of the kids I went to school with got busted by the DPD a handful of times and still hold grudges against me for it." Leah responded before they saw Hank reluctantly hand money to Pedro.
"Alright, I'm in." Hank replied begrudgingly.
"Damn straight." Pedro responded as he smiled. "You won't regret this, Hank." He replied before he left and Gary handed the burger and soda to Hank.
"Thanks, Gary. I'm starving." Hank responded.
"Don't leave that thing here." Gary replied, Hank finally noticing that Connor had gotten out of the car.
"Not a chance, it follows us everywhere." Hank responded before he walked to Connor and Leah and looked at Connor. "What is your problem? Don't you ever do as you're told? Look, you don't have to follow us around like a poodle!" He replied before he grabbed the burger as Leah was eating.
"I think our relationship got off on the wrong foot." Connor explained, Hank giving him an irritated glance. "We should... forget what happened… and start over. What do you say?"
"Look, they sent us a piece of plastic for a partner, and I'm dealing with it. But if you think we're gonna be buddies, you're as stupid as you look." Hank snarked back, Leah quickly turning her phone on do not disturb before she slipped it back into her jeans pocket as Connor quickly scanned the burger.
"Your meal contains 1.4 times the recommended daily intake of calories and twice the cholesterol level. You shouldn't eat that." Connor responded.
"Everybody's gotta die of something." Hank replied.

"Is there anything you'd like to know about me?" Connor asked.
"Hell no!" Hank responded before he thought better of it. "Well, yeah. Why did they make you look so goofy and give you that weird voice?"
"CyberLife androids are designed to work harmoniously with humans. Both my appearance and voice were specifically designed to facilitate my integration." Connor explained.
"Well, they fucked up." Hank responded before he ate more of his food and drank his soda.
"Maybe I should tell you what we know about deviants." Connor spoke up after a few minutes of silence.
"You read our minds. Proceed." Hank responded.
"We believe that a mutation occurs in the software of some androids, which can lead to them emulating a human emotion." Connor explained.
"In English, please." Hank responded.
"They don't really feel emotions, they just get overwhelmed by irrational instructions, which can lead to unpredictable behavior." Connor explained.
'The only unpredictable ones are humans.' Leah thought.
"Well they fucked up." Hank replied. "You ever dealt with deviants before?" He asked.
After a few moments and his LED turning yellow before it turned back to blue, Connor looked at them.
"A few months back… a deviant was threatening to jump off the roof with a little girl. I managed to save her." Connor explained, the expressions on Leah's and Hank's faces changing and neither saying anything after that until Hank turned back to Connor.
"So, I guess you've done all your homework, right? Know everything there is to know about us?" Hank asked.
"I know you two graduated top of your respective classes. You made a name for yourself in several cases and became the youngest lieutenant in Detroit while Leah is new to the police force and was moved up to homicide after solving the murder of a jewelry store owner back in late September." Connor explained, Hank turning to Leah.
"That was you who figured out it wasn't the android employee?" Hank asked.
"And that's why I was arguing with Gavin that day. In his words, I overstepped my boundaries because I was supposed to be shadowing him and leaving the case work to the detectives." Leah explained after finishing her lunch. "I hope he hasn't tried to send Nines to the scrap yard yet." She responded.
"Knowing Gavin, it's likely crossed his mind." Hank explained before they looked at Connor. "So what's your conclusion?" He asked.
"I'd like to earn your trust. I'm sure we can solve this case if we manage to work together." Connor responded.

Connor's LED briefly turned yellow and he inadvertently winked at Leah, making her blush slightly.
"I just got a report of a suspected deviant. It's a few blocks away. We should go have a look. I'll let you finish your meal. I'll be in the car, if you need me." Connor explained before he walked to the car.
Leah followed him and Connor moved the passenger seat forward, Leah smiling slightly before they got into the car as Hank observed them and finished his soda.
Hank walked to the car as Leah put a few Icebreakers mints in her mouth and closed the tin before she reapplied her Aquaphor lip balm and a nude lipstick before she twisted the lipstick tube down and closed it.
Hank drove to the apartment complex below the Urban Farm and shut the car engine off before they got out and locked up the car.
Scanning their surroundings, Connor reacted quickly… and Leah let out a startled yell as Connor pulled her out of the way of a speeding driver.
"You forget how to use your goddamn horn?! Have some respect for pedestrians!" Hank yelled at the driver before the three walked into the apartment complex.
In the elevator, Leah tried to calm her racing heart but couldn't and Hank carefully hugged her.
"It's okay, Babydoll, you're okay." Hank responded softly.
Leah wrapped her arms around him as she slowly started to calm down.
