Summary: Double drabble set in S02E05.
There's a deathly silence around the table after Shiv has announced that she's going to be the next CEO. Roman looks like he's been punched in the face. Kendall looks completely nonplussed. Logan is smiling in a way that tells Connor that he's furious.
Connor remembers his own promises from his father that he would run Waystar one day. He remembers Kendall's rise and fall. He had assumed that Roman was the new heir. He feels a stab of pity for his baby sister. Oh, Shivvy.
"Is that true?" Marcia, who has had too much to drink, whispers to Logan.
"Will you stop?" he roars at her. Connor flinches, remembering the sound of broken glass, his mother cowering in the corner, Connor too cowardly to go to her in case that upset his father. He never saw Logan snap at Caroline like that in all the years they were married, had thought his father must have changed, but suddenly he feels eight years old again.
"Are you alright?" Kendall asks quietly. He must have seen Connor's hand tighten around his water glass.
Connor nods. "Yeah," he whispers back, smiling reassuringly at his brother. He intends to start drinking properly now.
