It was a strange sight to anyone that might have looked, the street at night was occupied only by a carriage which was laden with baggage, strangely there didn't appear to be any horses, even though there was a driver sitting at the head of the carriage. Only three other people were present, all of them were part of the Magical community of Britain, two of them were somewhat oddities for the simple reason that their magic hadn't manifested like others, instead only surfacing now, shortly after their fifteenth birthdays, within days from each other. There was an elderly man using his wand to finish packing the luggage, he had grey hair and brown eyes and dressed in blue clothing. He was Eleazar Fig, a Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who had been assigned to help these two new late-bloomers get up to speed and get them safely to Hogwarts. The two young teens were looking around in amazement, both dressed neatly in typical Victorian garb, something surprising for them both, being used to the less than comfy clothing they typically wore in the orphanage they'd lived in since ten years old, that had been when they first met and befriended each other, remaining close to this day.
They both stood pretty tall, both being nearly six feet tall, the girl being half an inch taller than the boy. The girl was also paler than the boy, who was simply fair skinned perhaps with a slight natural tan, the boy had short light brown hair and brown eyes. The girl had shoulder length black hair with bangs framing her face and grey-green eyes, both were slender and lanky with soft features. Both were Scottish and, coupled with their life in the orphanage, they felt out of place in London.
"Ah, excellent." Professor Fig said at that point as he moved around the carriage.
They both turned to face him as he stood before them smiling.
"So, Colton McBride." He addressed them, the boy first, then to the girl. "Leah McCann. I trust you're both ready to depart?"
They both nodded and chorused. "Yes Professor."
"It's a shame we didn't have a bit more time to practice spell casting." He continued. "But I trust you've both been trying out what I told you?"
They both nodded, holding out the wands Professor Fig had given them.
"Good." He said. "I must say I've never seen anyone take so well to a second hand wand, you'll both be forces to be reckoned with once you get your own."
They shared a grin at that and Leah spoke up. "Can't wait for that sir."
Before they could say anything else however they were startled by a popping sound and man had suddenly appeared.
The man was roughly the same height as Professor Fig, slightly portly with dark brown hair and a matching moustache, fair skinned if slightly florid in the face and brown eyes, he dressed smartly but for the moment looked lost, until he turned right around and saw Professor Fig.
"Ah, Eleazar." He said with delight as he walked over.
Fig grinned upon seeing him. "George, I'm so glad you made it, I trust my directions weren't too...difficult."
"I've apparated to more vaguely defined destinations than this." George admitted. "Although I may have overshot slightly on my first attempt, gave some theatre goers quite the scare."
He gave a little laugh at that and Fig just smiled indulgently.
"Colton, Leah, this is George Osric, he works at the Ministry." He explained to them before turning to George. "I must admit I was surprised to get your letter, I thought-"
George quickly raised a hand and looked around, surprisingly no longer jovial.
"Best not to discuss it here Eleazar." He said quietly. "Maybe on the way to the Hogwarts, that is if your companions don't mind me joining you?"
Colton smiled. "Not at all sir."
"Yeah, sure." Leah agreed with a shrug.
"Well then, let us depart." Professor Fig remarked.
They all nodded and began to board the carriage.
"Been years since I was last at the castle, be good to see the old pile or rocks again." George said with his old jovial nature.
But he then stopped and looked around furtively, worried, before getting on the carriage which the driver shook the reigns of and, as if pulled by invisible horses it began to move before suddenly lifting into the sky and moving through the air as they headed off to Hogwarts at last.
