This story takes place before TYBW, but after the end of the original anime.

Chapter 2 – The Memory of You

Previously:

"Have we met?" She asked Kisuke softly.

"Not in this life" was his only reply as he went back to ringing up her candy. Concluding that this was her, this was his Kimiko

Kimiko was walking down the path in the park that she always walked, she enjoyed being amongst the trees, they brought her peace. She couldn't help but let her thoughts wander back to the candy shop she was at two days ago.

Something about that shop just pulled her in, and she couldn't resist the urge to enter. The feeling of safety and home just washed over her as soon as she stepped inside and met Tessai and Kisuke, it was as if they were in an old routine.

'Kisuke' she thought to herself, his eyes shook something inside her deep. The familiar feeling that he created burned in her soul, the need to reach out touch his face was overwhelming but thankfully she was able to resist the urge.

"I'm losing it, it's official." Kimiko muttered to herself, shaking her head walking deeper into the forest than she had anticipated. She suddenly stopped looking around her surroundings. "Hmmm, I didn't realize I came off the path…" Kimiko heard growling from the tree line, and a feeling of dread washed over her. "Hello…" Kimiko asked but saw nothing.

'Run!' a voice screamed in her head. Kimiko looked around trying to find the voice. 'I said RUN you idiot!' it came again, this time Kimiko decided to listen and turned taking off still not seeing anything but feeling like she was being chased.

"What the fuck!" She yelled trying to make herself run faster, but not sure where to go.

'To the shop, go to the shop' The voice instructed, and deciding not to fight this nightmare she made a break towards the candy shop from the other day.

"Listen to the crazy voice, maybe than I'll wake up." She thought to herself, taking a hard left and picking up speed. "Almost there…." Kimiko was just about to make the right turn into the shops courtyard, but she was knocked across and through into the wall by something.

She slid to the ground from the wall, trying to find what hit her but saw nothing. She struggled to get to her feet but collapsed back to the street. Her eyes started to slowly shut, and tears escape the corner when she saw someone wearing clogs and holding a cane step into her vision.

"Now, that's not very nice and no way to treat a lady." She heard the voice say. "Especially this lady." Kimiko watched through hooded eyes as he pulled what looked like a sword from his cane before everything finally went black.

Kimiko groaned feeling the pain in her back and head as if she had been run over by a bus.

"Easy, not move too much, you took quit a hit." She heard a man's voice say to her softly, for some reason relief and calm washed over her and she relaxed fading back into blackness.

Kisuke watched the woman laying in his bed relax and go back to being passed out. He sighed closing his eyes. Thankfully, he was in the front of the shop when he felt the Arrancar's presence, but he wasn't quick enough from preventing it from attacking her.

Kisuke noticed that she couldn't see it but could feel it. It was specifically after her he realized, he tried pulling answers from it, but it just laughed and said she couldn't hide forever.

'Why did it want her.' Kisuke asked himself as he heard his bedroom door slide open. He looked over his shoulder and saw Tessai walk in with some tea and cold towels. He stopped as he looked to Kimiko laying there on the bed before sighing and moving forward.

"Boss, brought some tea for you and some cold towels for mistress." Tessai said causing Kisuke to smile at the title he always used to call her in the soul society. He looked over to the nightstand, then at Kisuke "thought perhaps removing the picture of her from the soul society prior to her coming to might be a good idea."

Kisuke looked at the photo, he had almost forgotten that it was there. He reached for it and placed it in the drawer for now, he would put it back later. He grabbed one of the cold towels and placed it on Kimiko's forehead softly.

"It's really her isn't?" Tessai asked softly

"I believe it is yes. Though I'm not sure how, and if her old life's memories can return, but something is hunting her. That Arrancar was on a mission, and I fully intend on finding out what it is."

Kimiko opened her eyes at the sound of flowing water, and soft grass underneath her.

'Where am i?' She asked herself to look around at the thick luscious forest that she was laying in. To her right was a huge waterfall and collected in a large pond. She saw a figure sitting by the pong running her hand against the top of the water.

Kimiko kept her eyes on her as she sat up, from behind the woman had the same hair color and still that she wore but she saw the tattoo cascading down her neck, shoulders and arms. The woman was wearing a backless and armless top with black stretch pants.

Kimiko continued to inspect her until she heard rustling to her left and a large blue wolf with what looked like five tails walked out of the trees.

"She's awake." The wolf said.

Kimiko's eyes went wide, and she started to scoot back from the creature, her gaze was pulled back to the woman who stood and turned. Kimiko couldn't stop the loud gasp when she looked up only to be looking directly at herself, but different somehow.

"Relax…. No one is going to hurt you." The woman said as she slowly approached the wolf. "You're in our inner world. It's time we became whole again and wake up."

"Become whole again? What the hell kind of a dream am I having…" Kimiko said.

"This is no dream. I am you from another life. A lifer that was taken. I have been waiting for this moment in time for us to merge." The woman said as she knelt in front of Kimiko smiling reaching for her necklace. "Little did he know how helpful this was." She muttered before releasing the pendant.

"Come, we don't have much time." The woman grabbed Kimiko and pulled her to the pond. "This pond holds all of our memories, happy and painful, you need to go in."

"No way! This is insane!"

The woman sighed and rubbed her head muttering how reincarnations are such a pain in the ass. Kimiko barely registered that she had been grabbed until she was already falling into the water. She came up for air and had just taken a breath before something grabbed her legs and dragged her down into the dark water.

Kisuke was sitting next to Kimiko watching her when she started to groan. He though she was about to wake up but than she started to thrash.

"Tessai!" he shouted out pushing down on her arms to try and hold her still. Tessai came running in and quickly started a binding Kido to hold her down. Kisuke released her watching in confusion.

"What's happening boss?" Tessai asked as Kisuke who just shook his head

"I have no idea."

INNER WORLD

Kimiko was still being pulled under the water as she tried to gasp for breath, suddenly the water around her started to shift, she saw the woman from above, no wait her, in flashes.

"Kisuke Urahara! If you don't come back here and fix my room I'm doing to cut off the appendages that mean something to you!" she yelled while running after a fleeing Kisuke down a road she had never seen before.

Suddenly the image changed to her and Kisuke fighting with swords while laughing trying to overpower each other, suddenly another woman with purple hair arrived and entered the sparing match.

"Give up Kisuke, you can't dream on beating the both of us!" The woman with purple hair laughed as she vanished and reappeared behind him, catching him off guard so that the memory of Kimiko could land a kick to his gut sending him flying sideways.

As Kimiko continued to watch the flashes, she started to feel pain in her head, and she started groaning. She looked up as the water changed again.

She saw herself sitting next to another man in what looked like a lab, Kisuke in the background. The man she was sitting next to look a bit like a clown to her, but he was tinkering with something.

"So Mayuri, what happens if we let that touch that?" Memory Kimiko asked

"Don't touch that you idiot! If you do, you'll blow us all up!" Mayuri looked away and blushed as memory Kimiko laughed a bit.

The water started to get dark and cold around Kimiko and her chest started to burn more. Suddenly the memory faded and a new one started to appear. She saw her self-fighting with a man in a long white haori, it appeared like she had been fighting for a while there were bodies everywhere around her, bodies that seemed familiar.

The man laughed at her when she came in for an attack from above, but she wasn't quick enough, he grabbed her around her throat and started to squeeze. She dropped her sword bring her hands his arm trying to claw his hand open.

Suddenly Kisuke arrived and the man looked at him and smiled evilly.

"Just in time Captain Urahara, just in time to watch what is most precious to you die, and you can do nothing about it."

"Aizen, if you hurt her I'll kill you I swear it!" Kisuke yelled pulling out his zanpakuto.

"Ah ah ah, such strong words…. Say goodbye to you love." Suddenly he plugged his zanpakuto into her chest, straight through her heart. Memory Kimiko screamed as Aizen let her fall to the ground before vanishing.

"NO!" Kisuke yelled as he flash stepped over to her, lifting her body into his arms. "It's ok… I can fix this, then we can get you to squad four." He said hurriedly trying to use his Kido to start healing her wound.

"Kisuke…" Kisuke looked at her face, tears collecting in his eyes. "I will find you again." She whispered before her eyes closed and her life slipped from her body.

"No… No…. NO!" Kisuke yelled as he rocked her body against his.

The memory faded but Kimiko kept clawing at her chest and her head, tears spilling from her eyes.

'It hurts… it hurts….' Everything started to close in on her and turn black again.

Kisuke watched with apprehension as Kimiko's body jerked and she screamed. Once her body collapsed on the bed, he slowly knelt next to her, and put his hand on her neck. She had a pulse, and her breathing was shallow as she dripped sweat.

She started to groan, and her eyes started to open slightly. She turned her head to the side and looked at Kisuke.

"Kisuke…. I found you again… finally." She whispered to him before her eyes closed, passing out.

Kisuke gasped, hearing those words now for the second time in his life. I didn't want to let the hope he was starting to feel in his heart get any larger.

"Can it be…" he muttered before turning to Tessai. "You can release the binding; I think its over." He said as Tessai nodded to release the hold on her body. He heled her hand before placing it in her stomach, he ran his fingers down the side of her face, suddenly hearing the bell from the shop door ring.

"He really has the worst timing." Kisuke grumbled as he rolled his eyes. "Tessai, stay with her incase she wakes up please."

"Of course, Kisuke."

Kisuke walked downstairs finding Ichigo, Rukia, Renji, Uryu, Chard and Orihime. He sighed not knowing why they were all here, but he pulled out his fan in front of his face and smiled at them.

"Why, what a pleasant surprise! What brings everyone here today?"

"We felt an Arrancar presence earlier around here, any idea what happened?" Ichigo asked.

"Oh, that thing… I was on my way out when I saw it and took care of it for you. There was no need for you all to come down here and check on little old me." Kisuke said while waving his fan in front of his face.

Tessai sat across from the bed Kimiko was laying in he sighed to himself.

"Please wake up mistress. I know it's not the old you but perhaps this you can heal Kisuke. He's been in so much pain." Tessai whispered to the unconscious form, who suddenly started to move.

Kimiko stirred and started to open her eyes, letting them adjust to the light of the room. Slowly she turned to face Tessai, a confused look on her face.

"Hello Ms. Hoshi, you gave us quite the scare when we found you outside." Tessai said carefully, remembering that this Kimiko only met him a few days ago.

"Ms. Hoshi?" she asked him her face scrunching together. "Tessai, when you do ever call me Ms. Hoshi?" Tessai's eyes widened when Kimiko suddenly groaned and grabbed her head in agony.

"Ugh, I clearly did not think about the pain of two sets of memories through." She squeezed her eyes closed again.

"Mistress Kimiko…." Tessai muttered looking at her still unsure.

Kimiko laughed before opening one eye to look at him. "I never did understand why you insisted on calling me that." She smiled at him softly. She watched as his face went from unsure to shocked and his eyes started to glisten.

"It really is you…." He whispered. He then coughed and stood. "I'll go get something for your head, I have the perfect remedy for that, it will take away instantly." Kimiko watched him turn and leave the room.

Kisuke was still talking to the group downstairs when he heard Tessai come downstairs heading straight for the kitchen and his medicine cabinet. Everyone in the group leaned to see what he was doing as he rummaged through bottles.

"Tessai…... what are you doing?" Kisuke asked cautiously, narrowing his eyes.

"Getting a remedy, I have for Mistress Kimiko's head" he said without turning around to look behind him. Kisuke sat up straighter looking to see if the others had caught what he said, clearly, they did because they were staring at him.

"Mistress Kimiko? Who is that Kisuke?" asked Rukia as Renji crossed his arms in front of his chest and smirked.

"It's a friend, who ran into some trouble." Kisuke said vaguely turning back to Tessai.

"Ah! Found it, I'll take this right up to her and she'll be good in no time." Tessai started to walk away but stopped at Kisukes voice who suddenly came up behind him with his eye twitching

"That better not be expired…." He growled, causing Tessai to look down at the bottle one more time.

"Opps…. Grabbed the wrong one"

Kisuke sighed and pulled his hat over his eyes again, suddenly feeling his head start to hurt.

"A friend who ran into some trouble… what kind of trouble Kisuke." Orihime asked softly looking concerned. "Is there something you need me to heal?" Kisuke smiled at her, she always wanted to help and make sure everyone was taken care of.

"Thank you for the offer, Orihime, but that is unnecessary." Kisuke watched as Tessai disappeared back upstairs. "However, I should probably bring you into the situation since you'll stick your noses into it anyway." He said glancing at Ichigo and Rukia.

"Why are you looking at us!?" They both shouted at the same time.

"My friend upstairs was being chased by an Arrancar that she can't see. It was targeting her, and thankfully I was here when it took a swipe at her."

"She's a human being targeted by an Arrancar? Why?" Asked Renji

"That's what I don't know yet. Just keep your eyes open and be careful. We don't know what's happening yet." Kisuke watched as all of them nodded and turned to exit his shop. He sighed as he ran his hand across his face before he heard laughing coming from his room.
