With it being three days away, Dean was determined to make this the best Halloween Castiel had ever experienced, considering it was his very first with the Winchesters.
He also wanted to make it a good one for his little (big) brother Sammy. He knew Sam didn't have the best memories of Halloweens when they were kids, so he vowed to make it up to him.
Which is why Dean found himself in a grocery store piling bags of candy and an assortment of gaudy Halloween decorations into his shopping cart.
He had paused momentarily to look around the costume section, most of which were for little kids and their older siblings.
He gave up his pursuit, determining it was futile, and instead decided to check out the nearby party supply store he'd seen on the way into town.
He wondered for a second if he should call and ask Sam about the kind of costume he'd wear, but didn't want to spoil the surprise he had planned.
Dean had gone out of his way to ask all their hunter friends to double down on any activity, he wanted as much time as possible to plan a small party for him, Sam and Castiel.
Satisfied by his rather impressive haul of candies, decorations and other little odds and ends, Dean made a beeline straight for the giant pile of pumpkins on display in the middle of the produce section.
He picked out three of the best looking ones he could find, setting them into his cart without crushing any of the candy bags and made his way to the checkout.
-_-
Dean parked Baby inside the Bunker's garage getting out and going around to the trunk to unload everything he'd bought.
He had stopped at that party supply store and lucked out finding costumes for Cas, Sam and himself.
He had to make three trips from the car to the Bunker, setting everything down on a table.
On his last trip, he brought in the last two pumpkins he'd picked out for them to carve. He wanted Cas to have the whole Halloween experience.
Dean had called Sam on his way back and was beyond thrilled he had gone out to check out a possible ghoul causing trouble at an abandoned house a couple hours away, Sam had told him Cas had left on a supply run.
That all gave Dean plenty of time to put away all the things he'd bought, stashing most of it in his room under his bed. He just had to figure out where to hide the three large pumpkins he'd bought.
For now, he would just do his best to try and wedge them under his bed with everything else he'd managed to hide under there. If he untucked his bed sheets enough, he could cover them up.
-_-
Walking into the kitchen to make sure he had put everything away, he was caught off guard by seeing Castiel standing by the counter holding a suspicious bag of candy, eyeing it curiously.
"Hey Cas, I'll take that... Must've left it out by accident," Dean announced his presence to the angel, reaching over and taking the bag of mini chocolate bars from Castiel's hand.
"I just had a craving for something sweet, decided to make a run to the store..." Dean lied, hoping Cas wouldn't pick up on it. He tucked the bag of chocolates into his over-shirt pocket.
"I restocked the fridge, Sam mentioned you were out of some essentials... And I got pie," Castiel announced gesturing towards the refrigerator behind Dean, who's eyes lit up at the mention of pie.
"Dude, you're awesome!" Dean exclaimed cheerfully, spinning on his heal and tearing open the fridge door to peer inside, spotting the plastic container casing a beautiful apple pie.
"Hey, don't make any plans for this weekend, no hunting either... Garth and everyone has that covered," Dean said moving away from the fridge, pie container in hand as he stepped over to the counter between him and Castiel.
"Am I allowed to ask why?" Castiel inquired giving Dean a questioning look, his brows furrowed as his eyes narrowed in the way they did whenever Castiel was curious.
"It's a surprise, all I'm gonna say... And don't mention it to Sam, I don't want anything ruining it," Dean nodded to Castiel, trying not to give too much away.
"Alright Dean, I won't say anything," Castiel promised, smiling sincerely at Dean, the small action tugging at Dean's heart. Sue him for having a crush on the angel.
