one's on the way

They were sitting on the sofa, Hermione reading her book and Fred twirling a few strands of her hair around his finger, when Fred suddenly asked, "How do you think they're going to react?"

Having been married for over two years now, Hermione knew what Fred was talking about without any context. She pursed her lips to hide her smile and said, "They'll probably lose their minds."

Fred grinned and leaned into her shoulder. Just the feeling of him so close to her never made her forget to send a silent 'thank you' to the Universe. She had come so close to losing him during the war. She hadn't thought she'd survive the Final Battle, but she had not only come out of it alive but also saved Fred from a collapsing wall.

They began developing real feelings for each other during the time he was admitted to St. Mungo's, and by the time he was discharged, they were deeply in love. They had gotten married shortly after.

"Your mum will probably start planning the baby shower and your dad will ask a million questions about how Muggles deal with pregnancies," Hermione said with a small smile.

"And I bet George will cry," Fred added, making Hermione laugh.

George had been their biggest supporter; he had been there right from the very beginning and had watched them fall in love. He had even mentioned in his best man's speech that he was responsible for the happy couple getting together—which was a big lie, but Hermione hadn't had the heart to correct him.

"I don't think he'll cry when we tell him we're having a baby," Hermione said, and Fred beamed at her phrasing, "but I bet he'll cry when we tell him he's going to be the godfather."

Squinting, Fred shoved his pinky into his ear and wriggled it around. Hermione just smiled and waited for him to understand what he had said.

"Godfather? You want George to be the godfather?" Fred asked, sounding a little incredulous.

"Why are you so surprised? George was there from the beginning; I think it's only fair that he's our baby's godfather—just think how he'd react if we didn't choose him. Merlin, I can clearly hear the wailing and dramatic, painful cries as if he's being tortured."

Fred grinned at her description, but then grew serious. "I always thought you would ask Harry since he's practically your brother and all."

He threw his arms around her and hugged her tightly. Her husband was a touchy-feely person—honestly much more than her—but the way he was clinging to her now, his face buried in her shoulder, his hair brushing against her collarbone, it was like he hadn't seen her in ages.

"Thank you, Love, thank you!" Fred squeezed the living daylights of her, but Hermione wasn't going to complain about it. She loved how warm and bear-like his hugs were.

"Why are you thanking me? I think of him as a brother too, you know? Sometimes, he even is my favourite Weasley—aside from you, of course," Hermione cheekily said, making Fred laugh.

"I knew there was a reason why I married you," Fred whispered, kissing her neck. Hermione barely held back her moan when his lips brushed against her pulsepoint.

"Oh? And here I thought it was because you loved me," Hermione replied, trying to hold onto her train of thought, but it was difficult when Fred was making her mind turn into mush. "At least, that's what you said to me when you asked me to marry you."

Fred continued his ascent towards her ear before sensually whispering, his softly spoken words making her melt, "I loved you from the moment I woke up from the magical coma the healers put me in, and I'll love you till the day I die—and even after that."

"The fact you're carrying my baby is the cherry on top of a very amazing life I know we'll have." Fred peppered soft kisses over her jaw and nipped at her chin playfully. If Hermione hadn't already been in love with him, she definitely would have been now based on his speech alone.

Fred sucked her bottom lip into his mouth before letting it go with a quiet pop. "I know we said we were going to the Burrow to tell the family today, but I think we should make a change in plans."

"What do you have in mind?" Hermione whispered, sounding breathless even to her own ears. Fred was already steering her towards their bedroom, and she didn't care one bit.

"We stay in bed, clothes optional, and I show you how much it turns me on knowing that in a few weeks, you won't be able to keep your hands off me," Fred said, kissing her neck and gripping her waist.

"Like you can't stop touching me now?" Hermione sassed but gasped when Fred bit her shoulder. "Did you just bite me? Are you trying to give me a hickey, Frederick Weasley?"

"Hmm, not the idea I had in mind, but I'm not opposed to it." Fred nibbled gently on the side of her neck. "What do you say? Want to celebrate today in bed with me and we go tell the family tomorrow?"

Hermione tilted her head and captured his mouth with hers. They broke apart a few moments later, panting, and she said, "That's the best idea you've had in years."

"Another great idea of mine was marrying you," he said and swung her up into his arms before running towards their bedroom. Hermione's laughter could be heard from a mile away.
