Marina held her newborn merboy, Ashley, against her bosom with her two daughters, ten-year-old, Aquata and seven-year-old Sarina on each side of her. Ashley looks exactly like his sisters, golden blonde hair and ocean blue eyes, same as her.

The only thing that Marina couldn't understand was that Ashley was born blind. Marina never heard of any blind merfolk, neither mermaid nor mermen. Only humans were born blind and her merboy's blindness has something to do with his optic nerves never properly formed in utero. Even though her son was blind, Ashley was perfect in every other way. To top it off, the mermaid council decided that she couldn't raise him on Mako, Marina couldn't understand why a blind merboy would be such a threat. Her only option was to leave with her son to find a pod that would love and to raise him as their own.

So, Marina had everything ready A homemade wicker basket harnessed to the back of a dolphin that Ashley would be snuggled inside. Marina fastens a moonstone bracelet to his tiny wrist. Marina hugs Aquata and Sarina one last time and both of his sisters give their little merboy brother a kiss on his forehead. Then Marina and her merboy son are on their way.

Several months later

After visiting several pods, Marina decided against them because they didn't seem to be the right fit. That was until she came across a small island off the coast of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Marina saw what teenagers swimming in a lagoon, and they all had tails. "This is perfect", thought Marina. So, Marina unstraps the wicker basket containing her son, from the dolphin and places the basket hidden in some reeds. Marina pins a note to the moonstone bracelet.

The said, hello, my name is Marina and I'm a mermaid and this my merboy son, Ashley. I'm not allowed to keep him for my pod where he was born doesn't allow males to live there and the merman colony wasn't going to be an option. On a whim, Marina removes her moonstone ring and places it on her son's thumb. Marina kisses her son's forehead one last time and then swims off with tears in her eyes. "Damn that bitch Veridia" Marina thought bitterly. "I only hope that you will find it in your heart to forgive me my sweet little merboy.

Thirteen-year-old, Esther sat upon a large rock as she sunned and talked with her mermaid girlfriends while the merboys roughhoused with each other.

Esther became preoccupied with something but couldn't put her finger on it. Then she saw movement in the reeds in the far corner of the lagoon. She slides off her rock and slips to the water to swim over to investigate As Esther approaches, she sees the tiny fin of the little merboy flipping over the edge of the basket. Esther calls out to her friends, and they all come swimming over to see what Esther had found. They are all staring at the little golden-haired ocean blue eyed merboy laying in the wicker basket.

"Wow", exclaimed, Rebeccah, Esther's best friend. "Kind of weird that just last night we were reading the book of Exodus, how a maiden to the queen of Egypt found the baby Moses.

I was thinking the same thing, explained Esther. Esther grabs the basket and rushes to find her mother and father, they will know what to do.

That evening, Esther, her father, Isaiah, and her mother, Sierra are looking at the little merboy, Ashley. They already read the note from Marina, and they found the moonstone bracelet and the moon ring.

Sierra examines the moon ring, yes, it's definitely a moon ring, just like the one that I have, so it's definitely from Mako. Marina must have loved this little guy so much that she was able to leave her moon ring with him for I know how a mermaid's moon ring is her most prized and cherished possession.

"I've noticed that you never wear your moon ring and why is that mom"? asked Esther.

"That's because my son ring is sufficient for me", answered Sierra.

"Now what should we do about Ashley"? asks Esther. I always wanted a little Mer-brother.

"Look, Esther. Explained Isaiah. Ashley is welcome to be a part of our family and we promise that we will love him as one of our own for it's the Christian thing to do. But if this Marina were to change her mind and wants her son back, we'll honor that. We must remember that it's not about us. Ashley also has two older sisters, this ten-year-old, Aquata and a seven-year-old, Sarina. We are also going to have to deal with Ashley's blindness, such as learning how to read braille and how to maneuver on dry land and looking for water hazards. His blindness is what baffles me the most for I've never heard of any blind merfolk.
