Author's Note: Warning, Luigi is written differently to the character he is in Mario Brothers, so if you don't like change or AU's it is not recommended you read this in case I "Accidentally" ruin childhoods. If you don't mind then we can continue on. I got this idea while playing the game earlier and instead of Caterina's kids that get kidnapped because of the apple, it's Mario that does and Luigi along with Ezio end up in Forli to rescue him. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this story and my second AC and Mario crossover!
"Luigi, nice to see you here. What brings you all the way to Forli again? Is everything not well?" A Surprised Ezio greeted, then asked concerned
"No. It's Mario. He's been kidnapped by the Orsi brothers, along with the apple. It all happened so fast, we must get to him quickly before it corrupts him!" Luigi replied, sheer terror in his eyes.
"Then we must get to him fast. Don't worry we will get your brother back" Ezio reassured before springing into action.
"I hope so" Luigi muttered before following Ezio out onto the marsh.
They eventually got to the castle where Mario was holed up along with the Orsi brothers who were standing in front of them.
"Luigi, it's about time you showed up!" Ludovico cackled
"Ludovico. How could you? We trusted you, took you in as a friend then you robbed us!" Luigi cried back in anger
Ludovico laughed along with Checco who emerged with a tied up Mario who he shoved in front of the balcony.
"Mario!" Luigi called
Mario looked down, unable to meet his brother in the eye.
Checco spoke up. "If you want your little brother back, I suggest you give us what we want, which is the map!"
"No! You will never have it" Luigi yelled back to them
Checco tutted. "Bad move. Ludovico" he called out to Ludovico
Ludovico nodded before taking out the apple from the bag.
"No! Don't. Don't take it out, you'll kill everyone!" Ezio shouted but it was too late.
The apple shone brightly as everyone else winced covering their eyes from the brightness, except for Ludovico, Checco and Mario.
Mario screamed as his eyes grew a strong gold colour and he writhed around in pain, in the process snapping and breaking his binds as multiple Mario's shifted and merged from his body. Finally after an agonising few minutes, he collapsed out of breath.
Ezio and Luigi looked up in disbelief as they saw multiple clones of Mario. Mario was no longer just a cart racer or wearing his blue and red overalls, he was a mercenary who was now wearing black and red, much like the guards of Firenze and there wasn't just one, there were hundreds of him now.
Ludovico laughed while placing the apple back in his pouch. "Good luck finding your brother now, Kill them" before retreating like the Coward he was.
"Great" Luigi sighed. "They all look like my brother. What are we going to do now?"
"I know a way. Follow me" Ezio ordered.
A group of men all clad in black and red wielding various swords, hammers and axes all looking along the likes of Mario approached Ezio and Luigi.
Luigi looked at them, feeling uneasy. "I don't want to kill them" he muttered.
"You don't have to. Here" Ezio threw him a black ball, what looked to be a smoke bomb.
"A smoke bomb?" Luigi questioned
"Yes. Throw it at them, it will blind them and give us enough time to escape also without killing them" Ezio answered
"Alright" Luigi nodded, then taking a deep breath before they could swing, he threw the bomb.
"Now!" Ezio yelled as the clones of Mario all started coughing around them, blinded.
Ezio sprinted away along with Luigi.
"Get back here!" The lead clone yelled sword in hand, chasing behind Ezio and Luigi
Ezio turned his eagle vision on to make sure that the man wasn't the real Mario and Luigi's brother, it was safe. The clone was highlighted red instead of gold.
"Go! I'll handle him, keep looking for the real Mario. Ludovicco couldn't have gotten far!"
Luigi nodded but couldn't help but turn back in fear when he heard steel and steel clash. He watched in horror as Ezio stabbed the clone, unable to move.
The clone died, collapsing on his feet as Ezio approached a stunned and horrified Luigi.
"That wasn't my brother was it? I swear if you killed Mario" Luigi started only to get cut off by Ezio.
"Relax. That wasn't Mario. That was a clone." Ezio replied completely unfazed by Luigi's anger
Luigi's anger was replaced by confusion. "How do you know that wasn't my brother? It looked like him"
"Eagle Vision. I have a special sight and ability that's why I wasn't too worried. What the brothers don't know is that with me I can see through their tricks. I can spot the real from the fake. All because of this special sight I have"
"You have the sight? Like Uncle Mario, Oh I see" Luigi drawled suddenly understanding now
"That's right. It runs in the family, My uncle, Father and now me have it. What happens when you come from a family of assassins" Ezio shrugged.
Their brief moment was cut short when more clones appeared.
"On him!" Another Mario clone yelled pointing out to Luigi and Ezio
Luigi readied his sword. Along with Ezio as the pair of them fought back to back taking down all the clones.
"Clear. Don't worry Mario wasn't there. I have a feeling Ludovicco has him alive somewhere we just need to find him. Anyway, what did you do to anger him so much?" Ezio asked while they continued looking around the marshlands
"It wasn't me, it was Mario. The Orsi brothers were actually my friends. Back in Venezia before I started working for your uncle, the Orsi brothers were also in the same unit and camp as me training to be mercenaries. They ended up being contracted killers for a price, whilst I joined your uncle in Monterigonni as a mercenary" Luigi explained
"And?" Ezio raised an eyebrow, wanting to know more.
"Until Mario angered them" Luigi sighed before continuing "Silly Mario got himself into a pickle by flirting with a pretty woman in the town that was taken. The woman was married already and threatened to tell her husband. My brother being the scared coward he was, went to the brothers and told them to kill her. Little did the idiota know that was their sister"
"What?" Ezio hardly manage to stutter in surprise "Then What happened, did they kill their sister?"
"No. Checco and Ludovico are not evil by heart. They kill people for a price but not family" to which Ezio nodded, "The brothers were furious and told Mario never to speak to them again. That was supposed to be it, until they came around knocking on my mansion door one night"
"So how did the apple get taken then? It was supposed to be in your care" Ezio frowned unimpressed
"If you listen, I will explain" Luigi snapped as Ezio gulped, taken aback by his friend's sudden loss of composure.
"Sorry" Ezio murmured
"Anyway" Luigi took a deep breath before continuing "So they knocked on the door saying they wanted to catch up with me and apologise to Mario. Obviously I took the bait, believing them and their innocent request. They brought us dinner which turned out to be laced with a sleeping drug. We passed out at the dinner table, when I woke up, I discovered the apple gone and Mario as well. Sneaky bastards still can't believe they tricked me"
"It's not your fault" Ezio said gently, coming to an angry Luigi and giving him a squeeze on the shoulder "I am sorry that I was harsh to you upon discovering that the apple was missing. But all is not lost we can still find Mario"
Luigi looked back at Ezio who was leaning closely to him. "I guess your right. Let's go get him back"
"That's the spirit" Ezio smiled patting Luigi on the back.
After fighting through more hordes and waves of the clones, they finally found Mario through Ezio's eagle vision.
"There he is!" Luigi cried as he looked up at Mario who was tied up again at the top of the tower with Ludovicco guarding him along with two brutes.
Checco snickered in front of him. "So I see you still haven't given up, Luigi. How does it feel killing your own brother? It feels awful doesn't it. Sickening even. Now you know how we feel when your idiot brother told us to kill our sister for money all because he got his pants the wrong way round"
"Give me and Ezio the apple and free Mario and no one else needs to be harmed. I don't want to hurt you. I just want the apple and my brother back" Luigi negotiated
Checco laughed. "Over my dead body. You'll have to get through me first. Guards!"
Two brutes in big bulky red metal armour stepped forward axes in hand
"I'll get Checco. You focus on taking the guards down" Ezio instructed Luigi
"No. Checco is mine. You take Ludovicco and free Mario" Luigi ordered
Ezio nodded and broke out into a run, before leaping and climbing the tower up to where Mario was.
The brute swung his axe right in front of Luigi as Luigi blocked in the nick of time, his attention away from Ezio. Luigi grunted back as he swung hardly and angrily. After a long fight, the brutes finally were beaten.
Knocking out the last guard with his hammer. Luigi wiped the sweat off his face and called out angrily. "Checco you coward, come out here and fight me!"
"Oh I will, Old Friend. You will pay for your brother's mistake!" With a yell, Checco charged torwards Luigi
Luigi easily ducked before grabbing Checco by his arm and throwing him to the ground.
Checco got up angrily and swiped his daggers quickly towards Luigi who blocked, the knife only inches from his face.
Luigi parried as sparks flew everywhere. "Ughhhhh!" Checco grunted in frustration as Luigi pushed him off further
"You always were better off an assassin rather than a fighter. You've not changed. Your swipes, loud, angry, one of a murderer rather than a fighter" Luigi goaded
"Shut up Luigi, I will gut you!" Checco gritted
"Oh come on then I'm waiting!" Luigi taunted
With another roar, Checco charged towards Luigi. Lugi swung at him with his hammer, knocking him to the ground. As Checco tried to crawl away from Luigi and grab his fallen sword, Luigi knelt down to him and grabbed him by his hair.
"One thing you don't do is mess with the Mario Brothers. Or a Mercenary's family. You should know that by now. Too late."
"No No. Luigi I'm sorry. This is a misunderstanding. Just let me go and I'll never bother you and Mario again. Please. For the years of our friendship if not" Checco begged
"No. You can drug and kill me but you do not touch Mario, understand?!" Luigi screamed as he pinned Checco down with his knee and slammed the Hammer onto his face, cracking his skull
"This is for drugging and lying to me, and this is for Mario!" With one last Bludgeoned hit, Checco gasped as blood stained the grass everywhere.
Luigi looked up at the tower, wondering how Ezio was getting on.
"Mario. I must get to him and Ezio" and with that, he ran to the tower leaving the dead Checco behind.
Luigi reached the top of the tower via the stairs just in time to watch Ezio bury his hidden blade onto Ludovicco.
"There, done. Ludovicco is dead" Ezio informed Luigi
Luigi nodded before quickly running to his brother's side.
"Oh Mario!" he cried, placing his hand on Mario's cheek.
"Mamma Mia! What happened?" Mario asked
"You were held hostage, and the apple was taken, but it's alright now the men who took you are dead. Your safe" Ezio explained and reassured
"Yes your safe little brother. Come on let's get you out of these chains and home" Luigi reassured before reaching down to unbind his younger brother.
Once they were down from the castle, Luigi thanked Ezio.
"Thank you Ezio for coming to our aid. I am glad I bumped into you in Forli. Without you, Mario would of been dead"
"Don't be so dramatic. I'm sure you could have handled them on your own. And you're welcome. Anything for an ally of Mario's. A friend of Mario's is also a friend of mine too"
"You're too kind. Where will you go now?" Luigi asked as Mario looked on
"To find the Apple. I will not rest until it is in safe hands and the Spaniard is dead."
"I see. Well be Careful. If you ever need us we will be just around the corner. You are welcome to my mansion anytime. Good Luck" Luigi said
"Thanks Luigi, I will see you soon. Until then take care the both of you. Don't get into any more trouble" Ezio warned sternly pointing a finger at Mario and Luigi
"We won't. Bye Ezio" Mario replied
"Goodbye" and with that he was off. The Mario brothers watched as Ezio ran off his silhouette getting smaller and smaller, before they too walked off back to Luigi's mansion.
Author's Note: And that's it. That's the end of the story. It was a bit tricky to make this up as little is known of the Orsi brothers' backstory and making up a story with Mario doing something to anger the brothers based on the little lines they had and adding a non existent character's story in there too. It was hard making Luigi OOC and violent in this, yes he did fight in the Mario bros movie but not to this extent (don't forget he is a mercenary in this so that explains why) hope I didn't ruin any childhoods out there and if I did, Sorry.
