The dogs and I had a look around. I started to feel scared. Same for the dogs. My heart started to beat faster. I felt like I am lost in a big rainforest that is near Rio. I don't know what is going on. I hope that my dogs can get a scent of a town somewhere.

I then heard talking, "It seems to me that you're lost." I then heard a different language. I never heard of that language before. To me it's like Portuguese. I can't understand that language. It's like asking me who I am, who are my dogs and what are we doing in the forest.

I then said, "It's just that I am like lost and my dogs and I were hoping to find a town…" I stopped when I realized that there isn't a person in sight. I then got mad and asked, "Is this a joke? Because I'm not interested." I then heard the same voice that spoke in Portuguese, but this time in English saying, "Oh you're American." I then got my eyes wide when I realized what is talking.

I looked at what I am seeing. I saw two spix macaws. I then said, "I thought those guys were critically endangered and possibly extinct in the wild." This surprised the female one and she said, "You possibly think that?" I then got my eyes wide when she spoke. I said to myself, "Talking spix macaws." The male looked at me curiously.

The female then asked, "Who are you?" I didn't want to be rude, so I stammered, "I-I'm Opal, who are you? How did I get here?" The male then pointed at my dogs and asked, "What are those?" I then said, "Who Hero, Honeycomb and Louie? Hero, Honeycomb and Louie are my dogs."

The female spix macaw then said, "Well just one question at a time Opal, I'm Jewel, and the male next to me is Blu and you're in the rainforest." The two birds had a close look at me. The female mostly did. She then said, "You're not like the other humans who would be mean. I mean those eyes of yours."

I giggled and said, "What about your eyes? They're like showing you who's tough." This made her laugh. Blu then said that I seem cool before he and Jewel noticed the look on my face. I seem a bit sad.

Jewel then said, "Don't worry, I'll help you and your dogs." That sort of surprised me. My dogs were also surprised. How is she going to help me and my dogs? That's what I like to know. I have to know somehow. I have to somehow. Then Hero barked at what he saw.

I looked at what Hero saw and got my eyes wide. What was it that I saw? I saw a chain, a chain that is connected to the spix macaws! I gasped. I asked Jewel, "What happened? How did this chain get onto you and Blu?"

Jewel sighed and she told me what happened. I got my eyes wide when she mentioned bird smugglers. Ooooh how those guys are wicked. My dogs growled when Jewel said that. They don't like bird smugglers as anyone.

My mother warned me about them. You shouldn't trust them. At all. All I had to do is not trust them and know if they are bird smugglers. That's what she told me. All I had to do is that. I have to trust my instinct. That's what I'll do. No matter what people or animals say.

No one would tell me to not trust your instinct. That's what she told me. I remembered that advice well. I always followed that advice. I so do. It helps me out. It does anyway.

I know that I can find a way to get back home. Jewel did say that she'll help me and my dogs. I want to help her and Blu first though.

If I want to get home, I must help them first. It's no big deal to me. Jewel gave me a smile saying to me, "I'd be honored if you help me and Blu Opal. First we must find a place to rest for the night. It's getting late." I nodded my head agreeing with her.

We then found a spot to rest for the night. I hope that I can find my way home somehow.
